This song always speaks to me. My wife and I have made 42 years together but not always easy ones. I owned a business she never seemed to want to understand. It was very successful, after a rocky start. But she never saw that. The words of being on stage and how wonderful that is, only to go home to a wife that used to be so nice and didn't understand really hit home. I saw Roger in concert a few years ago. My wife chose to stay home that night. The song means nothing to her, but has pulled me through on many occasions.
Your wife doesn’t sound happy, if you’re both feeling lonely it’s not too late for you both to find love and happiness. Both of you deserve that , I’m glad this amazing song helped you, music speaks to our hearts. Bless you both
@@TMOGaeta A fair question, but there are also good times or we never would have stayed together 42 years. I have now retired and sold the business she had difficulty understanding. That seems to have helped.

Went to Breakfast in America concert on Friday the 13th 1976 and never forgot how awesome that concert was, 48 years ago. Won't see that musicianship today.
This one of those songs that just transports me back to a time and place and a very special time in my youth. This band had a very unique and iconic sound that still leaves an impact when I hear it today. Has it really been 50 years? Wow, that went by like a flash!

I grew up in South Jersey, when I was 17, I drove everywhere in my 68 firebird. Once I heard Supertramp I couldn't stop listening. They saved me over and over in my heart and soul with their spiritual songs. They have always been my favorite. Babaji and Even in the Quietest Moments. Sir David Hedden omgosh that would b awesome only a minute or two anything & I'd be long gone think I spent way 2 much time stoned than NOT those few yrs
Extraordinary Mr. Hodgson. I had the honor to see him in concert in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. It was a very special event because part of his crew and equipment flew to Cochabamba (another city), there was no chance to bring them back to Santa Cruz. He explained that to the audience. Anyways, the concert was fantastic!! He and part of his musicians gave us an unforgettable presentation. At the end, I had the great opportunity to meet him personally; Mr. Hodgson was leaving the Stadium and I beg him to come out of the car. As a great gentleman he is, he signed his autograph in a CD I bought few minutes ago (Rites of the Passage), then I kissed his hand and expressed him my gratitude for that beautiful concert. Now I’m living in Switzerland and hope to see him again in concert. Abrazos.
I met him in Barcelona, 1978. As a member of the Supertramp fan club they allowed me to enter the dressing rooms. He gave me some autographs and we shook hands. He was very kind.
Hey i love the comment about the "fishnet" stockings .....lol 🙂 . But with lyrics like :- . """"I loved you for your OOOOO ...(O00) But you just liked me for my RRRR...(R) ......... now the chorus Dont love me for my OOO-RRR And stop if you're going too far """" . See ???? .... sophisticated or what ???? lol..... Absolute Rubbish 🙂 . Sure the odd song pops up maybe 2 or 3 in a year ... but if you look at the UK charts of 1979 ...... every song in the charts was compatible with Supertramp. !!!!!! . (Born in the 40's where big built women could play the piano down the pub)
HA! I see I was here three years and this still sounds great to me . . Rick Davies on harmonica and clarinet (If that’s what it was ) is just so goood . .
Amen to that my man I'm saddened by this new generation of shit music IMO. Rap and Hip Hop, there's some good stuff here and there, but I feel like it doesn't have the feels and soul that connect with me. Bands like Supertramp, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Queen, Steve Miller Band, Elton John, Journey, Billy Joel etc.

This is one of those songs you hear in the background (on a radio playing in a store or whatever) when you are a kid but don't pay much attention to. Then you grow up and hear it again and TOTALLY GET IT

The line "she used to be so nice," now I get it
When the Harmonica kicked in...I actually started crying!!! I absolutely love this song & every other song Supertramp has put out. A great song to go along with some even greater memories!!! Much love from Mobile Alabama.
I am. But Before last night Id only heard their songs at the grocery store, and didn’t know it was them.. for some reason I clicked a live version I’m just kind of blown away by how much much more soulful and funky they are live. Listening to their concert from Paris on a repeat.
Roger Hodgson....so much talent! So underrated...this guy is the ultimate in "cool"...and musicianship...band really good too. Sax player rocks as does keyboard player..and harmonica guy!
Hey I lived in Fairbanks AK in the 80's! Came back to the lower 48 in 1991. I loved Supertramp so much back then I used to play Breakfast in America tape all the time, so much so that my friends started calling me supertramp! Not very flattering, but they did not mean it that way so I accepted the nickname. The 3 guys that used to call me that were Elvis fans. I am sorry but I never really liked Elvis, music or movies. still don't. There are maybe 1 or 2 songs I like, not love by Elvis and that is about it. And they would ONLY listen to Elvis. Hell I listened to many groups back then and still do, but Supertramp was always one of my favorites. My music goes as far back as the Beatles, Otis Redding, Procol Harum, Doors, Cream, Stones, Vanilla Fudge, The Monkeys! LOL! Hendrix, Janis, (Saw Janis as well as Led Zep, Cold Blood in concert in the 60's, I was to young but I got in) Zepplin, BB King, Alice Cooper etc. I have a very wide range of music. Never got stuck in the past always moved onto new things. I love to meet people from AK. I went to Anchorage 1 time and had a great dinner at a 5 star restaurant, then went to the Alaska Bush Company. In the recent years I met the guy who owned the Bush Co., he is family to me now thru my daughters marriage to his son. Amazing how small the world can be. Dusty the 2nd.
A fantastic performance by Roger & his handpicked band sounding as good live as the original Supertramp recording...... BRAVO !!! ... I Started listening to Supertramp in the 70's & am very glad Roger continues to play this AMAZING music...... RESPECT !
My mom and I use to sing this song together whenever we heard it on the Radio. Wonderful great memories now. My mother passed away in 1995. Roger if you ever read this Thank you.
When I was a kid my dad would always take my brother and I on drives for fun. Every time when we would head back home my dad loved to go a different route and no kidding, this song would come on the radio! I really miss those times with dad and I think of him when ever I hear this song.
How music can bring back memories. When i was a kid i was fan and stil am.I must sadly admit i had a bit of a shitty f**ktup childhood, but every time i was sad,i put my headphones on,played my vinyl record ,,Live in Paris" from Supertramp on, their music made me strong and forget my f**ktup time i had at that time...wel for a while though!!Unfortunutly You can't escape the reality for ever.Favorite songs were Dreamer,A Soapbox Opera, hide in your shell,Fool's Overture,Crime of the Century,It's raining again,Child of Vision....wel now that im writing these songs down every song i can relate to,and i find them all even greate songs.I cant say there is 1 song i dont like!Wish to you all Supertramp Fans a great and happy life.✌👊
You've never really heard this song till you find a quiet place in the woods and play it on a Walkman alone in silence . I found a grove of trees two lines planted years earlier by a young man who was now old . I laid there and listened to the whole album . Life you cannot predict it. Still here, still hear !

Mine as well. I still come to listen here lately, thanks to youtube. I get to see all my old fav's. I like the new stuff and in between as well. But this is VERY nostalgic for me. Just love this band & Roger esp. If not for him it wouldn't be what it is.
Still have the cassette.
@@sonnydean3187 Cool, I sure don't. I hardly even have any CD's anymore. Kept getting stolen. Thats ok, I have enough in my car, 2 books worth, Plus I have youtube!
Roger is amazing. Saw him in concert all over the world and he has an amazing connection with his fan base. Writer of songs that has defined a generation.

I wish my kid got it, wtvr,,, he has his rapppp... lol/....
Same here! I'm eternally grateful my dad had great music taste and passed it along to me.
My dad introduced me to Gilbert & Sullivan! But then again, he was born in 1930. Love this song.
@@davelee8961 as long as we had dads that shared the music they loved with us, the year, the musicians and the songs they shared aren’t the important part.

British rock bands were always the best.
So true. Funny how the "repressed" and "square" english stuffed the french and most of the continent of Europe when it came to expression in rock!
Fantastic Aaron McDonald' brilliant.
Masterpieces like this will live forever… Long after the garbage that is being mass produced now is buried and forgotten.
The 50s through the 90s was a great time to be around. “They just don’t make ‘em like that anymore.
Tenacity. You may be the only one who recognizes it and that's all that matters. Congrats!
WHY you did not ask her to divorce?
Your wife doesn’t sound happy, if you’re both feeling lonely it’s not too late for you both to find love and happiness. Both of you deserve that , I’m glad this amazing song helped you, music speaks to our hearts.
Bless you both
Good!!! 👍
@@TMOGaeta A fair question, but there are also good times or we never would have stayed together 42 years. I have now retired and sold the business she had difficulty understanding. That seems to have helped.
Music, lyrics...exceptional, the world urgently needs groups like SUPERTRAMP!!!

Exactly, it simply "transports" you...! You put it beautifully, just the way it was/is! 💙✌️

@@deeanna5814 yes thats true here’s a experiment:

"When the time comes to settle down, who's to blame that you're not around ? You took the long way home." At 60 I just got married a year ago. This song speaks to me now more than ever. ❤

I must have listened to them a couple of thousand times back then. Life is a fantasy. You tried to tell me back then and I finally got it. Is it time to know....Babaji, Babaji. Music at its very best, Roger is a special gifted musician
You got that right Orange Show Stadium San Bernardino Ca
Sir David Hedden omgosh that would b awesome only a minute or two anything & I'd be long gone think I spent way 2 much time stoned than NOT those few yrs
I believe he walked away from Supertramp in its heyday to be a stay home father now he’s back on stage: His children must be immensely proud of him
Ironic since it's about being free from a mundane relationship.
This is the perfect example of what rock and roll should be. Always the best. Still growing up on Supertramp.
Abrazos.
Roger Hodgson hasn't lost one step. What an amazing singer and heartfelt music!
No doubt whatsoever, Roger Hodgson is a brilliant songwriter and musician...... A genius.
He’s losing all of his money to his crooked managers.
I met him in Barcelona, 1978. As a member of the Supertramp fan club they allowed me to enter the dressing rooms. He gave me some autographs and we shook hands. He was very kind.
Lucky you!

Amen to that my man I'm saddened by this new generation of shit music IMO. Rap and Hip Hop, there's some good stuff here and there, but I feel like it doesn't have the feels and soul that connect with me. Had the privilege to see Supertramp at Earls Court. Early 1980s, just before they broke up. Consummate musicians. Wonderful concert.
So called musicians today could only dream of performing onstage like this. Roger Hodgson IS Supertramp.

Hi ❤😂
God bless all us nostalgic people !
Here in 2020, used to cruise Northern Lights Blvd in the early 80’s Anchorage Alaska with Supertramp cranked up. Still smiling.
Dusty the 2nd.
good music is good music, kick ass is kick ass.......
I've got some relatives that live in Anchorage...bet they heard those sounds and were rockin out to'em...keep on truckin bro...
I love his voice. He has his own sound and i love it!🙃
Idem....cheers from France

I was in the military away from home and missing my family so much. I only had 2 weeks left and this song made me smile and made the wait bearable.😊
No country, hip hop,rap,rock-n-roll,pop music of today can top this and you damn well know it.
that why we are all listening to the good ones

When I was a kid my dad would always take my brother and I on drives for fun. Every time when we would head back home my dad loved to go a different route and no kidding, this song would come on the radio! I really miss those times with dad and I think of him when ever I hear this song.

Still here, still hear !
I was touring Alaska in the 80’s and had a walkman,I was stuck in a town called Tok. I was listening to this tape over and over as I was trying to get out of Tok, and yes home was in in Africa a long way home…Supertramp music for life…..
