Great video, thanks. Just ordered an ANI Compact 1.3 &1.0 kit based on your prev video. First timer, home shed use on vintage tractors. Fingers crossed l learn quickly…
Hi Duncan, That sounds like a good package as you get 2 cups with it as well in a case, although I think there is only one air cap. If you get stuck, just send me a message on here or Instagram, and we'll try and sort it out. Normally, most problems can be sorted out with a little guidance, cheers mate 👍
Hi Ritchey, Yeah, the 1.3 will be the most popular, but there's nothing wrong with the 1.4, although in a flow test, it didn't seem to flow more material ,just a slightly different pattern, cheers mate, good to hear you're enjoying your new gun 👍
Hi Andrew, That depends on a lot of things, mainly the speed of the hardener being used and the temperature as well as the clear coat being used. It can be as little as 1 minute or as much as 20 or so minutes. Just touch a little bit of overspray area, it needs to be very slightly tacky as a guide
Once again, wonderful video. Don’t know how you can think it would be boring or too long. I always learn something from these. I like your little jig blocks. I’ve had some success using drywall screws through blocks of wood. Works well for items that I need to flip at some point. You’re really talented and enjoy all your skills
Hi Scott, As you know, it's always a bit of a juggling act sometimes to secure these pieces, I have a few wood blocks with screws it as well, I have round metal tubes, even a 4" engineers vice I use 😂. I'm pleased you like the videos even though you needed popcorn 🍿 for this one. Cheers, mate 👍
I have one of the old R160's with the same digital gauge the Skull uses, I plan on getting one of these in 1.3 just to swap the needle, tip and cap over to the R160 and then I'll probably redrill the old 1.2 r160 to a 1.6 primer setup. The difference that 0.1 makes is absolutely insane
Hi Bryan, Yes, it's definitely makes a difference, you know, why do ANI and the like not make a big tipped mini gun, I'm sure there would be a market for one, I know Sata and Iwata do one, AZ4 , but the Sata is expensive and the AZ4 more of a Midi than a mini. Cheers, buddy, I appreciate it 👍

HI PETE I WAS TALKING TO CHRIS AT SPRAY GUNS DIRECT HE SAID THE ANI COMPACT IS A GREAT GUN I HAVE THE ANI 160Q AS YOU KNOW PETE LOVELY GUN NICE WIDE FAN GOOD VIDEO THANKS FOR SHARING THAT INFORMATION 😊😊
Hi Andrew, The beauty of it is if you have an R160, then you can just buy a tip set, and you have a compact, and of course, the other way round, cheers mate 👍
Hello, just wanted to say a big ‘Cheers!’ for your videos as they’ve guided me into buying a spray gun. I’ve been into airbrushed for a good while and my younger brother said, “When you get good, you can spay my car.” He was half joking but he assured me that (his words) it’s just about the same…. While I’ve become quite proficient for an absolute beginner, with an airbrush (it makes art really easy for me) and your output has both steered me towards the NTools 4000 which I’m yet to use with anything stronger than water. That’s only because I haven’t the space in the wee airbrush but I’ve built for meself in the spare room :) :) Anyway, really grateful for your videos so a heartfelt cheers from me!! While I don’t agree fully with the idea that it’s the same, the tools are reasonably similar in which I could pick a spray gun up and know what bits do what, I realise the skill heee is a steady hand and an eye for exactness. You make it look so bloody easy too! But in a way, that help with my confidence as if I follow what you do, things (with time and practice) will be good enough for what I need. At least that’s what I’m aiming for :) Anyway, if you’re enjoying making the videos, please keep up the good work.
Hi John, Good to hear the videos have been some use. The 4000B is a cracking gun, so I'm sure you'll be fine with it. It is similar to airbrushing in that, as you say, you have controls that you are familiar with, certainly in function but not as familiar in form. Let us know how you get on once you've had a chance to use it. It'll be interesting to hear how different you find the two crafts. Thanks for watching, mate 👍
That was a lovely reply, cheers! I’ll try to get a couple of days under my belt with the supposed upcoming good weather. I have a garage but no matter what I do, how much I plug up and how much I caulk, it seems to retain moisture a bit too much for how I understand it… Anyway thanks again and I’ll mention ‘airbrush bloke’ in my reply etc, going by my very uncommon and easy-to-remember name :) :) Your videos have definitely been the thing that pushed me over the edge into it and you’ve got an excellent body of work too! Take care
I'm sure you'll be fine, John , maybe turn the fluid in, particularly with basecoat while you're getting used to it as the 4000B is a fast gun which may take you by surprise. Having said that, a lot about successful painting is confidence, so don't feel intimidated by the gun. Just show it respect, and you'll get on fine. Keep us posted, mate, and good luck 👍
Hi Grant, They are good guns, and with the larger tip sizes, are definitely able to cover bigger areas a little easier , thanks for the support mate, always much appreciated 👍
Great video Pete. For the money the ANI compact is great value. Great midi-mini gun, I’ve got a 1.3 to do some smart repairs on my car. Handled the base and clear with ease.
Hi Steve, It quite surprised me how much more the 1.3 was compared to the 1.2, I was definitely sceptical about it being able to cover bigger areas, but it certainly does. The only thing to point out is that it does use more air than is thought, simply because it likes its pressure, always was a cracking little gun so much more versatile now, cheers mate and thank you 👍
Hi Mate, If they are visible, then yes, I'll remove them. If they are somewhere that is never seen, then I won't bother unless they are obvious. The nibs I mentioned are very small, so they often don't show up on camera, but I know they are there 😂
Great Video Pete, thanks for your detailed info about this gun. I am thinking to buy a one with 1.3 tip, but I have question if you can in light me about it, what size of the compressor you are using? as I have 40 liters with 100 l/min compressor and I am not sure if it will be enough for small jobs. Thanks!
Hi mate, It's going to be tough to get much done with your compressor. These are quoted around 130lm, but that's at 2bar. These, for a good finish, need 2.5 bar for base and 3 to 3.5 bar for clear coats, so I estimate around 170lm, still not loads, but certainly more than you have. Here's a video I did showing air consumption, th-cam.com/video/rh6d-8PKfZQ/w-d-xo.html Of course, it depends greatly on how much you have to do, but with 40lt reserve you won't be going for long, a diaphragm regulator would help as reserves get low, hope that helps 👍
@@peteshobbies5383 thank you for your help, then I need to get bigger compressor first, what do you recommend to run these guns efficiently? Thanks in advance
@iDerbas Anything around 7 to 8 cfm, so around 180lts a minute would be fine. The tank size isn't as important as the output. You can link compressors as well so you can still use your current one as well
Hi mate, Take a look at the Meiji Finer Force, there's a few models , as with the 101, but the Meiji build quality is second to none, and the guns perform brilliantly

Sounds like this would be fine for doing the wings anyway. My question is would it be ok for doing the intricate areas on my brake calipers? Or would it be an idea to get the 1.0 or 1.2 tip set as well?
Hi Mate, You can turn the patterns down, but I always find it's a bit of a compromise, If finances allow, a 1.3 and 1.0 setup would cover most things you want, or will want to do, hope that helps, cheers buddy 👍
@@peteshobbies5383 cheers for getting back to me Pete. That helps alot, I’m new to painting so all the info I can get is appreciated immensely. @Mac_F87 To be fair, the little ANI is a pretty good gun and quite universal, I don't think it's so good in the 0.8 and 0.5 sizes. It still needs a higher pressure, which doesn't really work with the smaller tips because you're normally doing smaller, more intricate things, and all that air flying around is a pain, there's lots of smaller tip guns that are good and run at the lower pressure. But certainly 1.0 and up these are very good, and you can buy a service kit for around 12GBP, which is a bargain, cheers 👍
Hey Pete! I'm trying to put together a super budget setup for spraying guitars. I've got around €300 to spend on a compressor and spraygun, for use with water based polyurethane. Been debating between this and the GF3 Mini. Which would make more sense to cheap out on, the compressor or the gun?
