I’m still in love with my r160, I do have the Skull edition and the F160 but still be r160 does a fantastic job with the 1.2 tip on everything, the lacquer at 2.5 bar lays perfectly flat, it’s fantastic!
Hi buddy, yeah, they are great little guns, what cap have you got in your F160? , they also fit the Skull as far as I can tell, haven't used it yet but should be fine 👍
Hi mate, I've found the Skull very good, what caps are you using and what sort of pressure? , seems to be a very wide range of pressures it can be used at
Hi Mate, Have you tried Sprayguns Direct? , they export outside the UK , and they are equivalent to $170 CAD. You would need to put your tax and shipping on top, but it may be cheaper than from within Canada. www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk/product/ani-f160-silver-hps-gravity-spray-gun/
Certainly, if I was designing a gun, I wouldn't put the fan control on the side, but having said that, if it's not in the way of the painters thumb, as some are, it's not a problem normally. I rather like your Meiji/Sata child analogie, which certainly made me smile 😃 Cheers mate 👍
Hi Pete, thanks as always for the great advice. I have noted the pressures you recommend but was Just wondering what you recommend the fluid volume to be at for the best results when using base and clear? Bought an r160 after watching this and planning on spraying for the first time with it tomorrow on a pair of side skirts.
Hi Mate, The R160 is a great little tool . For clear, I use 3.5 bar with the fluid wide open , for base around 2.5 to 2.6 bar , as far as material output it really does depend on what you are doing, what paint and color you are using and the substrate you have. As a guide, start at 2 out form fully closed . You will probably end up around 2 1/2 to 3 out, but see how it goes and what results you are getting. I hope that helps 👍
Hi Pete hope you are keeping well mate. Another superb finish from our friendly gun collector😁love that colour Pete there is just enough candy on there to give it a nice purple colour and what you have done is pretty close to the finish you get on the TVR's they have some really nice colours on them. It's been a while since I've used my ANI R150 you may remember that I couldn't get on with it that well but after you told me about the pressure needed to get a good finish the gun is totally transformed, your R160 laid the base and candy really nice especially the candy as it put a nice even but thin coat down. I still haven't got the F160 which going by what you have done with it is a great gun to have for just about anything you want to paint, maybe I should stop buying these expensive guns then get a few cheaper ones to play around with🤔 thanks Pete👍 Oh and as others have said don't worry about the rambling mate as everything you say contains really good info, could be worse mate you could have people like me making long rambling comments🙄🤦♂🤪🤣
Hi John, yes, it was a lovely finish, a small one and a little one for £220, can't be bad. I'm thinking a similar thing, I've got plenty of quality guns and have just ordered a few cheap guns to see how they go, after all, if we can get the same results with a cheap gun then it really does make you wonder why we pay all that money for the better ones. I realise it's not all just about the finish but to a lot of people watching our stuff they won't be painting that often so can't justify the heavy price tag, cheers mate 👍
Maybe we should start a "Cheap and Cheerful" section for those that don't want to spend a lot on a gun but still want a gun they know can deliver a decent finish, that was my problem when I first started I bought a cheap gun and got terrible results but I didn't know if it was me or the gun that was the cause so I bought another gun which was a bit more money and again had terrible results.... rinse and repeat.... it wasn't until I got my first SRI ProLite that I realised I'm a crap painter🙄😭😂 Maybe have a limit of up to £40 to £50, don't know what's available within that price cap though🤔🤷♂
Hi Karl, The R160 does need a bit of pressure, I know some run them at 4 bar for clear, but as you know, I suggest 3.5 and, as you say. It performs quite well at that pressure, glad you got better results 👍
The factory blurb says 7.7 cfm but only for the S and the plus (200fad) at that volume and high psi how is the overspray. You never seem to have any fog. Can you explain the difference between these guns please. Thanks Pete.
Hi Paul, the air consumption will be dictated by the cap, I presume we are talking about the F160 here? It will also depend on the pressure the gun is used at, certainly 7.7 cfm seems a little low, with the HPS cap at 29psi, so 2 bar, I would estimate around 9.5 to 10 cfm in air consumption. The reason it can look like I have low overspray all the time is I have an extraction fan to the right of my spraying area. This is obviously removing overspray from the start, so the build-up looks less
Thanks for the reply I'm in the process of gathering extraction fans now so I can paint a Ute I have, and looking at few guns now to suit my compressor. Any info I can gather from you helps so much in making a decision. Many thanks Pete
Hi Stepan, it's purely the cap, and colour of the controls, the WBX cap runs at a slightly higher pressure, this video at the start explains it better th-cam.com/video/MxuBVPL104g/w-d-xo.html

@@peteshobbies5383 I was actually just about to buy one with a new gun but you got me thinking now Pete 🤷 I was wondering why I can't find any videos of it on here.
Hi Pete hope u are doing well. What are you looking for when you up the pressure or lower the pressure from what the gun manufacture says if you know what i mean?
Hi Scott, good question, I'm trying to sort a video out which will explain it, it's just difficult thinking what form that will take. Normally, the higher the pressure the finer the atomisation will be, but, you will find the fan can separate top and bottom so you can overdo it. You can also get a dry application with too much pressure so you need to watch out for that as well, a lower pressure will give you more peel generally which can be needed to try and match existing paint, of course, materials, temperature, speed and distance from the work also play a part as do fan size on the gun
@@peteshobbies5383 Thanks Pete very well put i'm always trying to learn as people say things assuming you know what to look for but generally people who watch these videos on youtube (not just yours) don't necessarily know what people mean. and the people that do know probably don't watch them. 🤪
