Hello from Oklahoma! Interesting video! What most people do not understand is that a vehicle that says its "4-wheel drive" but has open differentials, is basically a 2-wheel drive. One in the front gets power one in the back gets power. This pickup is a perfect example. Most 4x4 are sold with open differentials for liability reasons. It's an aftermarket thing to lock them up and turn them into a true 4-wheel drive vehicle. If You get limited slip or the like, at best you have 3-wheel drive. Of course, in greasy mud, tires play a big part.
You got yourself one special lady. I dont think Im tough enough to trample through mud and water day in and day out. I also like you alls low key approach to the videos. You dont try to seem like a youtube star and imho that is what makes you one! Humility is key. You should have 1M followers.
@DieselRamcharger its dangerous dude. You can get hurt. And animals exist as well. Just looking at that habitat they are in you can see it would easily support most any wildlife, things capable of killing humans
A similar thing happened to me. These wet planted pine forests were once cypress forests. I got hung up an an ancient cypress stump. we did not know it and pulled it with everything we had but it would not budge. We dug all around and found the stump, jacked up the truck and cut some of it out with a chainsaw. The saw was half in the water and it kept dying. We would dry it out and cut some more. After 2 days of digging and cutting we were finally able to pull it out.
@@oneslave3318 I see, in other words your experience voids his experience. So when the ancient cypress stump sees you coming it submerges itself deeper in the mud releasing the stuck truck out of respect for you and your 30 foot recovery strap. It must be AWESOME being you. My husband and I just discovered your channel. It amazes me how many people get themselves stuck. We also noticed that you sure do rescue a lot of Fords!
That Jeep does really well for its size and equipment. I would suggest a removable A frame for the front and/or back bumper, if possible to brace it, with a snatch block at the apex, about hood high, or higher. Also, having a 40 inch, or so, tractor rim to put under the cable, close to the vehicle being pulled out, so as to lift it some would help. This truck was hung up on an old tree root, or rock, or something foreign buried in the mud. Nice job.
Dad did a good job following your jeep backwards. Most people have no clue how to help the pulling vehicle with the front wheels of the following vehicle.
Just started watching this channel they do a great job but I I'm amazed at these guys going out on trails like that without proper recovery gear been playing in Florida since 79 winches and mud tires along with a good recovery rope are required equipment
Rapco strap around 2 or 3 of those small pines it's amazing how much holding power of the root system has and hook the winch to the strap or if you have the money and the way I prefer I get my pull pal out and use it again be properly prepared
@@stevenkennedy3300 might have worked did not think the root system on those small trees would amount to much especially with the water saturated ground.
This happened to me many years ago, but it was a cross tie someone had used in the bog to gain traction. My K5 pushed it sideways perpendicular when I went in the bog. High centered on it for 3 days. Blew the motor and transmission among other things.
And that's why so many people blow there motor or get bogged to the frame use your brains instead of brute force the faster your tires spin the less traction you have
Guys we have this thing in Florida, I've discovered it's wiser not to hit the throttle hard in this situation tree stumps are everywhere. Here they are buried by the lumber firms so where you least expect it they are there.
I'm not sure if this would help make yourself metal chocked blocks, but add a slot for a piece of thick rebar around 3 foot hammer in the ground kept me from sliding.
To me, that sounded like something in the drive train was bound up! Sure, the rear was in reverse, but possibly the front end was locked up? When it broke loose, it was definitely a mechanical sound unbinding. IMO
Anyone who has ever had a little fun off-road knows there is a fine line between the fun and sinking it to the frame. I’ve had to be rescued on a few occasions, and have rescued others. It’s just part of the game.
I’m glad to see I made the right choice a couple months ago. Bought my first jeep, a 2022, 3.6L, 4.10 diffs and it’s also a gladiator. Haven’t gone anywhere too extreme yet though. I just hope to in the near future. Don’t think I’ll try swimming with it. lol. Does good in snow.
It's a Ford, should have left it in there...lol Is that an 8 cylinder in your Gladiator? Doesn't sound like a V6, unless you have a killer exhaust system on there. Sounds really good!
*EDIT* (I was only seeing the first part of the winching when they first hooked up as I typed my comment. I see they ended up using the 2 to 1 (snatch block setup) that I suggested in my comments after watching more of the video.) * Hey man, I would suggest you get yourself a snatch block and use it to multiply your pulling power when pulling out vehicles in these types of situatuions. This essentially doubles your winch's pulling capacity. Although it requires longer winch line or using somethIng else to attach to the winch line, it would help a lot. Also, you should put a blanket or winch cable cover or "winch damper" over your winch cable to try to prevent or at least minimize the possibility of your winch cable snapping back at you and knocking you out or killing you. I can see it wasn't "that stuck" so maybe you weren't putting that much stress on your winch but better to be safe than sorry when things are stuck in the mud. Sometimes they are "sucked" into the mud so you need that extra pulling power.
Why the heck does anyone think it's fun to drive in the SWAMP? What a mess and so unrewarding in my opinion. However silly it seems, It's bread and butter for Florida off road. Well Done.
That’s pretty awesome how that ford in reverse could push that Jeep out of the swamp. Just goes to show you that you can’t beat a Ford and a stiff rope!
It sucks when your 4x4 broke and you’re out in the mud. Always have recovery gears with you like traction board with you. That’s what we do when we go overland.
honestly before he reversed and started pulling that way that's exactly what i thought it might be especially since he started the video saying the 4 wheel drive was broken
2 wheel drive.... wow,,, If you find yourself in a ford and one tire is just spinning. Reach down and pull the release on your emergency brake and hold it out. Then apply/feather a little of that emergency brake while you give it some gas. That will apply power to the other wheel that is on the ground and will probably get you enough traction to get you out.

hi matt. capt frank here. just curious, do u air down any in these mud recoveries? if so, how much. thanks. hope to see u out at hurenaught sometime.
We don’t
We usually only air down on days we are gonna spend on the beach and air down to 10-15
You never know its limits if you never test them. Im sure thats one proud father.
I just found your videos love this one 😅 going to watch more of your special friends God bless you and your family
Stumped you say
Hung on a stump I say
I got stuck on a well once, you could spin all four tires with your hands, was in about 3 foot of water. Took a four wheel drive farming tractor to get me off it and out.
Got stuck only once got a Ford bronco stuck halfway up the doors in mud walked home got our international 4x4 truck on super swamper tires back up to the bronco and ended up sinking the international halfway up the doors in mud also felt around got them hooked together with chains got in the international and it pulled both itself and the bronco out no problem and the bronco got stuck in park.
Sounds like to me the front drive shaft or cv axle was broken holding the truck in place and making the popping noise when it was getting towed out.
His 4x4 stopped working. Something jammed up. You could hear it let go when he first started moving.
8:42 it wasn't spinning the fronts prior to the clunk and jarring when beginning double line pull. 4x4 didn't work when they got there looks like!
Matt said that the customers busted 4wd trying to recover it over the weekend.
Not sure why you didn't air down the tires.
Looks like a front ujoint broke and the propshaft dropped and stuck in the ground? Cause of the water no one looked.
Is the off the trail like super swampy? Just curious why you didnt turn the truck around
In Carolina this typ of forest is called pocisson , we have it in national forest like Hoffman and Croitan .
Sounds like the differential pinion was stuck?
After watching you guys recover so many rigs, I wonder WHY you don't carry Handyman jacks on Every trip into the swamp? I drove all over Alaska for a decade and never got into a place I could not get out of on my own I had a PTO winch, Handyman and a 20ft roll of 8ft Chainlink fence, that was for Swamp use and it works, add a couple of home made sand /mud anchors and you could make life easy . Best Regards.
We carry a high lift jack
@@matt.mckinzie Oh Good.
That Ford is right where it needs to be behind that jeep
Rumor is that griffis boy still hankering around out there pun intended.
You know your stuff. Awesome job all around
Got mine stuck like that one time, took two big wreckers to pull it out
Nice seeing a daylight recovery. What was he stuck on? Stump? Mechanical issues? Great channel, great technical knowledge and ability. A bit more narration would make it more personable and informative. Now I see why you run such large mud tyres! Greetings from Australia! 👍
That sounded like a surprise stump.
his tires is what getting him stuck plus its a Ford
@alanlangley7246 congratulations on having no clue why his truck isn't good in mud. It had nothing to do with those tires or the brand of truck you goober. It had everything to do with weight and lockers.
@@franksmith8210 yea i saw that goober when he try to turn around and thos tires were spinning on top of the grass🤣 goober my tires would have dug a hole GOOBER🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@franksmith8210 btw that truck didnt have lockers if it did it was broke i didnt see your ford pulling all 4 tires 2 tires were spining GOOBER
