@Stephen Lee If he's 21 now, in early 2021, he was probably born in 1999. So he'd be 4 or 5 years old in 2003-2004, the PS1 was at his grandparents' house because they had the newer PS2 at their parents' house but still wanted something to play when visiting the g-rents (my Genesis was at my grandparents' house for a while). Over all, it works, but this seems like a tough game for a 4 or 5 year old.

Same I got it the Christmas it came out just before I turned 8. In hindsight I guess it wasn't really suitable especially as it was my first PlayStation game but what a game though!
I've managed to get GT2 glitch only once, and it was quite magical. I'm not sure what exactly caused it, but I basically clipped through another car and both of us kept on driving while being stuck to one another. Not only that, but the game interpret it as the two of us constantly crashing into one another, so it wasn't very pleasant to listen to.
I did it once at Red Rock Valley. During the first turn my car somehow ended up inside another one and remained there for a few seconds before ejecting my car out the front with a huge speed boost.
This game has some features that were way ahead of it's time. I I played it for the first time last week, and been playing it since then. The only game in recent memory that got me hooked like that was The Witcher 3.

That was $10 well spent, it's just an incredible game.

Gran Turismo 2 was awesome. They put awesome muscle cars in it. 67 Plymouth GTX, 71 Plymouth Road Runner (Plymouth Muscle Car), 67 Merc Cougar and many more. I loved the Seattle track.
Awesome review, again! I don't know why but I really love your reviews. Anyways it's good to see that GT2, right? Is improving upon and adding more content from the first one. I know almost every game triple A game in 2019 does that. Like the sports and COD games like you said. But also like you said Polyphony put a lot of additional content in this one. Even though it's very similar to first one it still gave you a lot talk about. And that's amazing. Thanks again. Can't wait to watch your GT3: A-Spec review. See you next time!

This game made my pants very tight as a teenager. It was just so full of content, so many damn cars, modes, tracks, loved it. It was way ahead of its time.
There's no rubber banding my dude. The AI cars are catching you with a combination of slip-stream and the fact that you're braking too late and/or sliding all over the place like a madman instead of taking the proper smooth racing line. I've played these games a lot over the years, and if you race well and maintain your line and speed its absolutely possible break away from the AI beyond the range at which they can get the benefits of slipstreaming and even lap them if the race is long enough (although obviously this becomes easier or harder depending on the relative power of your car to theirs). The games are intended to be a simulator (its in the name) so the idea that they would put rubber banding in there is kind of antithetical to what they were going for. Its not rubber-banding, its just punishing your mistakes.
Grant Perkins There is actually some kind of rubberbanding. I believe if you're far enough, the opponents will get 30% speed increase. If you're falling behind, the opponents will get 30% speed decrease. But, if your car is fast enough, you'll be able to race away from opponents regardless
My friend bought a steering wheel with pedals (that 360 modena with flappy paddles) That helped us a lot. My only complaint was that the steering wheel were a bit small. We had a blast driving the JGTC cars with tire damage. Good times. .
Never understood the complaints with rubber-banding in this game. I've been playing this game for 20 years and not once did I feel that the other cars were unfairly keeping up with me. Most of the time, I end up with a huuuuuge lead. As long as you get within 50 of the horsepower limit for a race AND properly balance your car (handling, braking, acceleration), you should have no problem blowing away the competition. I think a lot of people just expect that they can throw a bunch of hp upgrades on and win. All the power in the world means nothing if you can't take corners well and rapidly accelerate out of turns.
@@sebastiankulche Yeah, I've been replaying this game lately, and there is actually way more rubber-banding than I previously thought. Guess I just never noticed since I win most of my races. Plus, I never keep track of what I'm racing against, unless I have to compete against that darn GT40 at Rome Circuit lol.
in GT1, you can put R33 GTR to the 930HP, but severely limited with 5 gears only transmission. In Gt2, R33 GTR max power were limited just to 630HP and also fixing highly-tuned turbo cars taking longer time to spool up. Handling sometimes going whack when using ABS brake control, traction control and even active stability control.
I loved the review. This is STILL the game I've played the most. I've achieved everything there was to achieve. Too bad the garage had a 100 cars limit. Just some corrections. This was not a hard game. Once you managed to achieved speed, it's not a piece of cake, but close. The hard part of the game is the one you have to race (very) slow street cars. By the way, yes, it's boooring at the begining. But it's worth it. That's where contemporary games, like the Need For Speed's, were obviously more apealling, since you could race fast cars frome the very start. I had no problem with that, though. I am 36 and I really hate how children now NEED to play too easy games so they don't get frustrated. I was really disappointed with GT3 and GT4, since they have many circuits and fast cars available from the start.
Also the title sound track in the PAL version of this game, was the Cardigans. I didn't know that they changed title tracks until I came to the USA NTSC version and it was like Guns and Roses. The Cardigans - My Favorite Game was an epic title track for this and should have been used everywhere.
Licence Tests are actually good in the game like the 100m dash and stop test cause they test your reaction to brake while excelerating in a pacific mount of meters
I had three memory cards on PS1: two main ones and a Gran Turismo one. Saving replays took extra blocks, I wish I could see if there are still any saved on my PS1 cards so I can record the footage now without a working PS1.
To this day I remember that on the arcade disc it said "Nornal" with an n instead of "Normal" on single player road race in german. I have not played another racing game for longer than this gem here. Back then it looked so real! Also the soundtrack... cannot remember if it was GT or arcade disc - but heck The Cardigans - my favourite game is a Song I listen to on a regular basis thanks to GT2!
Is because of this game that I became fan of JDM cars... my first car if I not wrong was a Skyline GTS, then a R32, then the R34 V-Spec. My favorite all times
@@RezaMaulana98RM98 I think it only truly goes away in the Endurance and IA-Licence requirement races, but as long as you drive consistently, you don't really notice
If you pass all the B License tests with a Gold rating, that S2000 you get is by far the best first car you can obtain. Without modding it once, many races can be won.
This game taught me how to drive by 13 years old lol… my mother was “too sick” to drive and asked if I knew how (pretty sure she was drunk) and of course I said yes… I took what I learned from this game and drove home lol
If there's rubber banding in GT2, then it must be a joke, cause there are several factors as to why some boxes can keep up with your Supra. 1. Car weight and acceleration- With how cars are handled in this game, your weight and transmission affect your acceleration, GREATLY. The Supra has decent starting BHP, but the main thing that holds it back is that it's stupidly heavy and has below average acceleration, just a better top speed, but a better top speed only is viable on more straights, Tahiti Road has more turns and chicanes than straights. Those boxes keep up with you because either their acceleration is better, they drive aggressively with you if you drive like shit and don't follow the racing line, or punish you for your mistakes. 2. Handling and understanding of your drive type- Every car handles differently and if you don't try to get a feel for all of them, you will struggle since most of the high end cars are MR type handlers, vehicles that handle well but spin out easier than the rest of the cast. I've driven a lot of cars in this game and if you have a car that handles well, accelerates like a beast, and you drive good, you will literally make a gap between you and the competition. Even if you make mistakes, cause I sure did, I drove aggressively and still followed the racing line and quickly caught back up, the more mistakes you make, the more likely you will struggle in terms of keeping up.
There is a quite sizeable rubber band. Try to complete a race by using OP cars, blast away in front then look at AI finishing time. Then try to do the same, but drive the same speed as AI. You'll notice it. Note : Endurance races don't have rubberbanding I think, as I can more easily leave AI in the dust.
Played both and concluded some things: GT1 handling had tendency to fly, GT2 handling tends to grips Actually i finished license test however the save went corrupt so i used gold license tests
This has to be my favourite game of all time I think. I think it's still highly playable today and it came out 18 freaking years ago!! That's the mark of a good game I think!
Fun fact: she's not. She's on GT1 on Grand Valley East spun out just before the tunnel and in last place. Also before the main race Danny Yamato (asian dude played by R.J De Vera) in his civic coupe is also playing GT1. R.J De Vera's personal s2000 is the car Johnny Tran is later seen driving with "100 grand under the hood".
First US/J edition had a max percentage of 98.2% because of four removed races, generally considered to have been from a removed drag mode The 'last' PAL edition has a max percentage of 100.9% due to having both Opel and Vauxhall (depending on the language you selected) so essentially two races can be done twice Though the most amusing bug I read about here tcrf.net/Gran_Turismo_2 was the chance in the first US/J copy of having to contend with a Vector M12 LM (~680hp) in the Trial Mountain enduarnce race (limit of 295hp) - for the fact someone else on YT posted a video of them winning legitimately in this very situation :P
Aaaahhh back when there were no racing lines in games just corner markers. Gt2 even though it was fun the a.i cars were unusually fast! Even if you're using same car as a.i, they will outrun you on the straight as if they have 800-900 bhp!! But I used gameshark codes to modify car weight :)
this is the first gran turismo game that i ever played and the one i played the most, not much of an evolution to the original GT but still an excellent game, with the best ost of the franchise imho.
You forgot to mention the intro video/song by the cardigans, my favorite game. I'd give it 10 out of 10 Edit: Reading the comments, l found out its only PAL version And BTW my favorite cars Vauxhall Calibra Pennzoil Nismo Suzuki Escudo
Still a great game today, and it's very easy to forget the graphics because the gameplay is so good and shows modern games how to do it,no dlc no patches just the player and the game .10/10.your review was top notch.
This is my favourite game of all time (and I have tons of other racing games like other gt titles or forza games). It has perfect (for me) balance between arcade and simulation. Somehow I love licence tests, and I don't need to tune cars very much (I won gt world championship with some racing modyfied toyota supra, with no additional tuning on my side - only changed gears for some longer tracks). For me it's the easiest gt game (why i don't know). Only downside (apart from aged graphics - still love the style though) is rally events which sucks.

this was one of my first ever games I played. I was born in 1994 and remember all the background music lol
1994 born too June 10. How about you? Grew up with GT1 3 and 4. Can't wait for GT7
Also born in 94 we are lucky as we hit every sweet spot in gaming history being the appropriate age to comprehend what was going on
I loved the review.
Brilliant reviews on all the GT games
Also the title sound track in the PAL version of this game, was the Cardigans. I didn't know that they changed title tracks until I came to the USA NTSC version and it was like Guns and Roses. The Cardigans - My Favorite Game was an epic title track for this and should have been used everywhere.
So thats why he didn't mention that
Great review man, but no Escudo Pikes Peak mention? that thing was massive, roll on the walls and step on it on straights
2 million credit cheat code is very much accurate. Tested and tuned many things on GT2 but nothing is really close to it over-all.
I like how I have no problem with the lisence tests.
Only if I try to get all gold... then I fall into problems
wow there are so much more cars than gt3
GT4 fixed that handily though as it has over 800 cars if I recall
Man this took me straight back to my childhood
This game and NFS2 made me get hooked on cars. This game made me fall in love with the Ford GT40 and NFS2 with the McLaren F1. I love my youth.
I've owned every Gran Turismo but still play this by far more than any other, but part of that is because I can play it on portable devices.
For s ps1 game it looked great and still plays well today, still probably the best of the series.
Gran Turismo and Toca got me hooked on sim racing. Doing it in VR these days is awesome.
Is because of this game that I became fan of JDM cars... my first car if I not wrong was a Skyline GTS, then a R32, then the R34 V-Spec. My favorite all times
I beat most of the game with a GT40 clean driving, on my first playthrough i used escudo and ride the walls
My personal favorite gran turismo, it's by far the most fun!
agree, and i also make R2 gas and L2 brake, even on a PS1 dualshock without triggers. still feels good

complains about rubber banding, ironically when course map clearly shows no rubber banding in that race
Pretty sure Rubber Band in GT2 only exists in the Sunday Cup right?
@@RezaMaulana98RM98 I think it only truly goes away in the Endurance and IA-Licence requirement races, but as long as you drive consistently, you don't really notice
The part about dealerships is so relatable... Escudo!
Played both and concluded some things:
GT1 handling had tendency to fly,
GT2 handling tends to grips
Actually i finished license test however the save went corrupt so i used gold license tests
Dude I remember watching the replays just cuz they looked so real. I couldn’t believe it (back then)
Wow it's all coming back to me, my favourites were TVR Speed 12, Mitsubishi Evo VI Tommi Makinen, R390, Elise GT1...
This has to be my favourite game of all time I think. I think it's still highly playable today and it came out 18 freaking years ago!! That's the mark of a good game I think!
Fun fact: This was the racing game that Michelle Rodriguez character Letty was playing in the original Fast and Furious house party scene.
First US/J edition had a max percentage of 98.2% because of four removed races, generally considered to have been from a removed drag mode
The 'last' PAL edition has a max percentage of 100.9% due to having both Opel and Vauxhall (depending on the language you selected) so essentially two races can be done twice
Though the most amusing bug I read about here tcrf.net/Gran_Turismo_2 was the chance in the first US/J copy of having to contend with a Vector M12 LM (~680hp) in the Trial Mountain enduarnce race (limit of 295hp) - for the fact someone else on YT posted a video of them winning legitimately in this very situation :P
A smelling CD is worth millions today = D
I tried playing on my PS3 and I can't get R2 and L2 to work as analog inputs. They're just full throttle even when I'm in analog mode.
Smells real = scratch and smell disc on the blue one.
Escudo's sister "Cultus" 😍😍
I really liked the license tests. Getting gold on each one of them shows if one has mastered the game or not.
Yeah I liked them too but agree with the uploader about the issues he raised.
Você tem uma boa variedade de jogos, gostei da playlist.
Parabéns.
The menus look so cool. Every menu screen is a novelty
I remember having a scratch and smell thing on my GT2 game case, it smelled like rubber when scratched
It really smells like tyres on the original release.
Speed is the name of the game speedways, raceways, road courses, rally and endurance.
gtr with initial upgrades and eventually to 1000+hp was the car that leveled me up, and eventually buying the 787b and the toyota la mans.
this is the first gran turismo game that i ever played and the one i played the most, not much of an evolution to the original GT but still an excellent game, with the best ost of the franchise imho.
You forgot to mention the intro video/song by the cardigans, my favorite game.
I'd give it 10 out of 10
Edit: Reading the comments, l found out its only PAL version
And BTW my favorite cars
Vauxhall Calibra
Pennzoil Nismo
Suzuki Escudo
I think the reason why there's spectator stands in the license test-only tracks is so that the instructors and their students can watch you.
Man this brings back memories. I used to always pick the A70 supra as my first car, makes me really want to buy one today hah.
Btw the career section of GTSPORT has the BGM Of arcade mode from gt2
Que reseñas tan completas gran video .
Still a great game today, and it's very easy to forget the graphics because the gameplay is so good and shows modern games how to do it,no dlc no patches just the player and the game .10/10.your review was top notch.
This is probably one of the most realistic looking ps1 games
Absolutely. It's always been between GT2 and Colin McRae Rally 2.0 for racing graphics dominance on the PS1. Both gorgeous for their time.
love this game back in the day, and the 1st one
This is my favourite game of all time (and I have tons of other racing games like other gt titles or forza games). It has perfect (for me) balance between arcade and simulation. Somehow I love licence tests, and I don't need to tune cars very much (I won gt world championship with some racing modyfied toyota supra, with no additional tuning on my side - only changed gears for some longer tracks). For me it's the easiest gt game (why i don't know). Only downside (apart from aged graphics - still love the style though) is rally events which sucks.
2:47 does the spoiler of that Cultus Suzuki read "Power Filter"? If it does, then so help me god, it better.
You should rub the GT2 disc and you get tire smell.
Fake
@@louisbeerreviews8964
"Rub the label of the GT Mode disc gently with your fingertips or a soft cloth for the authentic pit-lane experience."
One more thing get off the internet, if you couldn't check if that thing was fake or not 🤦♂️
Anyone else remember the playstation discs that you could scratch and it would give off a scent?
From memory Fifa 96 was one of them.
I bet you any money GT2 was also one maybe with a gasoline smell or a burnt rubber smell
