I would rate the Elantra N a solid 9. It's incredibly fun to drive. No matter who drives it, they are always smiling. The value is unbeatable. No other car gives you this level of performance for the price. It literally comes track ready, you don't have to change a thing. And let's not forget that it offers a manual transmission. I see people crying all the time because the manuals are disappearing. Well here you go, an affordable fun to drive sports sedan with a manual transmission. Oh and I almost forgot, the exhaust sound is fantastic. Again you don't have to change a thing. But then is it really a surprise that the car is this good when you take into account its designed by Albert Bierman, the man who was the head of the BMW M division. Take care 🙂

I traded in my 2016 VW Golf R, 6sp MT, AWD with a stage 1 kit and carbon fiber hood for a 22' Elantra N DCT, Ceramic White (tired of slapping through gears). I haven't regretted my decision 1 time. This car is more fun than anything else in its category, period. Your review was kinda weird. I like cars, I'm not a brand snob. Turbo 4's are my jam though. In 2 yrs I may think that Honda is leading the pack, or VW, or f-in Nissan, who knows? But right now it's Hyundai and your honest review seemed 65% negative. I would say this car is 75% positive. I give it an honest 7.5 out of 10. Go around a curve in 'N' Mode with NGS on, start into the turn and smash the pedal to the floor.. you will wear a smile for the next 23 minutes.. my Golf made 60-70 more horse's than my EN, but I can't even tell with that DCT. You need to drive the car for a week, put 600 miles on it. I think you'll come back to this review in 4 yrs and say "whoops"...

I'm a salesperson at Hyundai and and agree with basically all your points but I did find it weird that you said Hyundai isn't focusing on the cool concept EVs and is focusing on the Kona and Elantra N vehicles. That actually couldn't be more opposite. The Elantra and Kona N are so good because they took great standard cars and added the incredible engine from the Veloster N, and adding those things together was basically a foolproof way to make an awesome car. That said, there was very little effort needed to do that, and now that they're out they won't focus on anything other than manufacturing for the next four years.
Hyundai has been putting INSANE amounts of R&D into EVs in recent years. The Ioniq 5 just came out, the Ioniq 6 is dropping in 2023 and the Ioniq 7 is soon to follow, with rumors of a flagship Ioniq 9 coming through the grapevine. Pair that with the Nexo and the N Vision 74, two Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and in two years time you'll have the company with the most alternative fuel options of the all. The N stuff is just a final hurrah of gas power before everything is forced to go Electric, Hybrid and Hydro in the next decade or so.

Why did they discontinue the veloster n , such a beast n car , I feel it's underappreciated , we can't even get it in Australia sadly

    • @superdoesings2416
      @superdoesings2416 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@fredrikb343 Unfortunately nobody was buying them. And of course, when I say nobody it's relative. There were almost 8 times more orders for the Kona N than the Veloster N. And two times more Elantra N orders than Kona N orders.
I agree it's sad that we're discontinuing the veloster line-up. Unfortunately right now automakers are already losing so much from the car shortage, and corporate determined we would benefit a lot more from discontinuing it, which frees up a huge amount of factory space and resources (materials, microchips, TIME) which can now be used to focus on faster production of the Ioniq lineup. It also means Elantra and Kona Ns can be pumped out faster as all three used effectively the same engine, supply of which now gets split in two instead of three. Plus who knows, if enough people miss the Veloster lineup, Hyundai may re-continue it with a re-designed veloster, or even start a new two-door hot hatch to move forward

I think you’re being a brand snob my man. You should be reviewing a car based on its merits and shortfalls not based on its brand. Maybe it’s a US thing. Hyundais are parallel with Japanese brands in terms of quality and performance currently. You talk about depreciation, they have far less depreciation from new than any of the euro brands (here in Australia anyway) I think we should all be appreciating that manufacturers are still making fun manual performance cars, they’re certainly making very little money out of them. I think this was a poor review as you seemed to negative from the outset and that just carried on throughout. For the record I don’t own one of these.

I own one. It’s SUPER fun, sounds amazing and feels like an absolute bargain. Plastic aside, I think the interior looks like it belongs in a more expensive car - the little touches like the ambient lighting decent materials where it counts make a big difference. It’s a nice place to be. Here in Australia we get some extras, like rear vents, ventilated seats, electric mirrors and front parking sensors which is nice.
In regards to modification potential you are probably right, but the thing is I don’t feel the need to do anything to it. It feels like I bought a car with all the mods I want pre-installed and covered by warranty. I guess we’ll see how I feel in a few years.

First time watching a video of yours. I've owned a N for just over a week, - white with the DCT. You made a mistake. The front vents are functional with a slit opening to the wheel well. I do agree with the majority of the comments you made. As a past owner of cars from a 1977 Capri to 1979 Trans-AM to a 2019 Camry (with various SRT'S, Audi S's and others mixed in between) this car has such a great bang for the buck. Sure, it doesn't have the creature comforts we've grown accustomed to. No power seats for either front seat and no power steering wheel, no forward parking sensors, no wireless car play functions, etc. However, adding those features increases weight, decreases performance and pushes the price over $40K and into the realm of other cars with more cache. It definitely hits a niche area in the automotive world. Keep up the good analysis.

Im sorry man, you know I love the vids, but this review got me the wrong way (and no, I do not own a Hyundai of any sorts).
Hyundai in Europe has been improving massively the last 20 years (and Kia that goes with it), with high reliability and quality of finish and materials in the EU models (i10/i20/i30 etc).
This also means in Europe, these cars have been depreciating a lot less. And the N models have been appreciated greatly by Nürburgring drivers.
Seeing these N cars, live, at the Nordschleife, they are very impressive, performance wise (bang for buck).
And let's be honest, everything has fake vents nowadays. I fully agree with you that it should not be there, but to knock a car for it nowadays is unneccesary in my opinion. Also the noise when you hit it, that's common, BMW, Merc, Mini, Renault, VW, Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Nissan, everything makes that sound when you knock the bumper or the fake vents.
The Uniroyal Tigerpaw I have never driven (though it being A/S it wprobably won't be all that). The Uniroyal Rainsport however is an excellent tyre for our climate and have been using it on my Calibra since 2003 (starting with the Rainsport 2).
I do like the partitioning of the vid, and bonus points for the hat!

Hey, love the feedback on this and I love that you wrote out a comment. I think our geographical area can play a bit into this too because you mention EU and the i10. Hyundais entrance into the us market was met with massive depreciation and quality issues. While they grew in popularity they did through the means of cost savings and excellent leasing programs. Now they have gotten better, as all brands have, but what I am comparing this too is the VW’s, Subaru’s, and the Hondas of the same caliber and in which case there are some shortcomings.
I think they’re making great improvements, but the car isn’t without its flaws. Thanks for sharing about the Nurburgring, didn’t know it was that popular there!

I'd give the EN a 9 at it's price point (I cant stop grinning when I drive this car). And yes they basically said "f" you to the people in the back. Alex I think you need to take the car to a local track to see its full potential. Not too many cars you can take from a dealership to a local track "bone stock". And I don't know how those tires affect the ride... with the stock tires... acceleration and corners are a blast. I do agree that for the enthusiast it might lose some point for the exact reasons you pointed out... But looking at Hyundai's future designs and mentality... it seems like they are listening to what the people want... and I'd take that over, other manufacturers telling us what we should want.

I’m not going to lie- it was hard to get through this video. Although it’s “honest” it felt so overly negative. First, there’s maybe 10 dealerships that are selling this at MSRP. My dealership in Vegas is selling at 47,000 out the door. These cars are selling for more used than brand new. In order to buy one (one you want in terms of color and transmission)you’re actually going to have to buy out of state (which Hyundais policy just changed to not allow this everywhere) or reserve one before they arrive to the lot. I have spent the last 72 hours calling every dealership in the country that claims they have one, or are having ones in transit. Knowing that alone, it’s pretty obvious that people WANT this car. It’s a unicorn car. I just felt so much bias coming from you. Sure the vents are fake- who cares it still looks great. It’s not like we’re reviewing a 60-80k plus car, I mean come on now. You’re reviewing a Hyundai. This car needs more praise. The numbers speak for the demand alone. You’re video should have focused on why people are willing to spend wayyy over to get their hands on this. I appreciate the content but I feel like you missed the point.

And here’s your 3 reasons for buying the N- 1. It’s a great blend of having a daily driver and performance 2. The interior alone is unmatched 3. Albert Biermann was behind the project. I'm german, so we don't have the Elantra N, but we got the I30 N that has the same engine and transmission. It's a hatch that competes with a Golf GTI, and Audi S3 in its I30 N Fastback version.
It's a massive hit, I30 N's are popular tuner cars now and its debut was in 2017.
But europe is more of a hatch market than the US, so maybe it's not that surprising that the N caught wind.

I own the DCT Elantra N, absolutely love it. You're pretty much spot on with everything you're adding in. You should kind of know those things going in but, I have to say the car has exceeded my expectations and every. You have to understand at this price point you're not going to get everything, but they definitely give you more than your money's worth. BTW, I've owned plenty of very nice cars. I didn't want that "very nice car payment". If you're on the fence about buying one of these cars, get off the fence and go buy one but make sure you get the DCT, the performance gap is significant. Otherwise, you just have another Turbo 4 cylinder with a manual transmission....

As an Elantra n owner I can give u more than 2 reasons to get one. 1 it’s the best bang for ur buck. 2 it’s good on mpg if u want it to. 3 in terms of performance its actually fast I’ve beaten cars I think it shouldn’t beat suck as a 370z. 4 they refined the motor since it was in the genesis 2.0t. 5 it’s one of the best cornering cars that I’ve driven ( 2018 370z ,2016 mustang, 2017 camero, 2019 type r, 2015 c63, 2009 genesis 3.8 and 2016 focus st) and for 6 the exhaust note. Your being a little to rough on the car ur judging Hyundai and not really the car itself cause it has magna ride a rear chassis brace factory made big breaks and an active exhaust. None of that was mentioned. Especially with modding these out lap3 did a down pipe wet injection and a tune and got it to 500whp and these r reliable numbers. I like ur reviews and I’ve followed u since fi but this one feels more like an attack on the car since Hyundai made it. Also hyundai got a guy from bmw that was a m engineer so these cars have more in them that what people think suck as factory remapping that will push the car to 20psi in the turbo giving you even more power for dollar.

Like it wasnt built to be taken to the track and only just to look and sound nice. Fastest car at this price but you're stuck on "hyundai". Completely track ready for 32k but your stuck on some of the "cheap parts". Best warranty you can can get on a car. You gloss over all its features that make it worth the price and make it a sports car and focus on the negative. Find me any, and I mean any other vehicle that is completely track ready. Not just quick, not just got a couple visual pieces but actually ready for the track with sport tires and bracing and a ELSD and the power to beat any car at its price point and a few that cost more for its price? I'll wait. GTI? SI? Integra? GR86? Miata? STI? No. None can compete.

I appreciate your comment and your criticism towards my viewpoint on the car. I do think sometimes when I criticize cars like this I do get quite a bit of combative responses from the audience. I've noticed it more with KDM owners, but I am happy you're defending your platform and want me to be held accountable to what I say; so thank you.
      - Vents : When you have the opportunity to vent your front tires but you don't on a FWD platform, that deserves a call out.
      - Toy/Novelty Comment: It feels that way to me. The digital exhaust so it can sound like a car it isn't is a prime example of that. The flame effect when changing the dash.
      - Being Stuck on Hyundai: I am cautiously optimistic about the brand. I've been around since their Tiburon GT days and have watched Hyundai spark noise and waves time and time again, only for the cars to fall off just as fast as they were hyped. This isn't opinion, this is fact. Their strongest step forward was Gen coupe 2.0t but even that had core shortcomings that required aftermarket support to compete with others. To not be concerned about Hyundai's longevity seems shortsighted by default.
      - Warranty, value, and as a new car - I rated it an eight, did you get to the end? the things you're stating are good are some of the same things I mentioned!
I think sometimes where we get hung up is on the concept that a car has to be perfect just because it executes what we want from a car. In that reasoning that's why an 8 was given. It's a great value focused performance sedan that provides owners a sense of fun and harshness when needed while still being more than capable of taking the kids to school. On the flip coin, I am not only looking at the car from a new-car ownership perspective; but also one of the modification and enthusiast side. It will need more time before I think more enthusiast oriented people jump into this platform. Previous gens have shown that support doesn't last long or is in depth enough to survive. Maybe the N is going to be that, but legacy tells us it hasn't.
I'm always appreciative of comments like this, but it's important to recognize that while I call out its shortcomings, the end result and review in my opinion are more than fair. Have a great day man!

@AlexMartini some how I never got the notification that you responded. I appreciate your response. What you're saying here is fair. Who knows how the future of the vehicle is going to look 5 years from now. Especially with them going full electric. To the toy comment, hyundai has designed this car to be in the sweet spot. It's right between, take me serious and I'm just here to have fun. Which is where it depends on use case and what you want from the car. If you want it to be serious it can be meant for that. Track ready and all. If it's just meant to be fun then it doesn't have to go full tilt. They made it where it can be enjoyed by a wide range of individuals with different wants and needs. I'm not sure about the exhaust comment. It has pumped in audio but it doesn't need it as the exhaust is loud enough and very real. It actually increases the fuel timing to cause detonation t9 make the Pops amd bangs. Albert Bierman even confirmed that it actually somewhat functions as Anti Lag although it is not marketed as such. So idk what you meant by digital exhaust. The longevity of the car or Amy car will always be a question. Hyundai's have their ups and downs. After getting over 11k miles in mine haven't had any issues. Other have. Luck of the draw I supposed, but again that's any brand. In recent years Hyundai has improved so much compared to their previous years so you can't really compare the last 10 years to the last 5. And not even the last 5 to the last 3. They've done a good job bringing their motorsport knowledge over to the cars. Building more reliable, more powerful, and better designed vehicles. My biggest thing about it is looking at what you get for the money. All safety features standard. Lane keep and follow, blind spot, auto trunk open, lighted handles at night, rear parking sensors, emergency braking. 5 star safety rating. All the convenience features you could ask for. Remote start through an app, keyless entry and drive through the phone, Wireless charger, ambient lighting, light up sport bucket seats with heat. Some regions get heated steering wheel standard and optional rear heated seats. Sunroof on dct in the US. GPS tracking through an app. Remote start with ability to turn on heat and set temp, and turn on heated seats and set a destination all before you even get in the car. 12.3 inch touch screen. Bose audio. Built in weather and built in gas prices viewer and doppler radar. Then on top of all that all the performance option you could ask for. Completely adjustable performance options. Adjust the steering, exhaust, engine, transmission, suspension and elsd. View all performance information on a graph. From turbo psi, torque, hp, speed, throttle press, break pressure, and g-force. In certain location pull up the track for that area and see where you are on the track and keep lap times. Built in acceleration timer for 0-60 and beyond. Launch control. Sport bucket seats that hold extremely well. Chassis bracing and stiffening all through the car for more control and handling. Michelin pilot sport 4s tires stock. Brakes that are superb and just under that of brembos. Top speed listed at 155 but many, myself included. Have gone well over that number. Aftermarket support has been developing well so far. There are many brands that offer performance and cosmetic enhancements all over the car. And it's continuing to grow. Could there be nicer materials on the inside yes. Could some of the fake aero be removed or better designed. Yes. But all that cost more money. So it comes back to again look at what you're spending for what you're getting. If you're not looking at the car in its entirety and what others offer at the same price it's easy to judge its short comings as bigger detractors than they really are. I think we all want to see it succeed. For those that are new theyre hopeful. For those that have been around they're skeptical, but I think we'd all agree that we want it to succeed but only the future will tell. Thank you my friend for engaging with me and responding again.

@@AlexMartini. thanks for the response. fair, if counting on after market support for sure would be a concern. I used to have an Infiniti Q70 and lost like $15k in 2 years of depreciation, so not overly concerned about the depreciation on the N.

As much as some enthusiast will complain about FWD platforms, they are the only ones left that are truly affordable, relative to their AWD/RWD bretheren. Nothing wrong with starting out with a FWD platform. Yes, you can’t do drifts and skids, but most people can’t do that legally/safely anyway. There are more ways to have fun than skids/drifts. Don’t let people deter you away from enjoying a well done FWD platform.

Great Video, I'm currently awaiting my EN to arrive, so any time there's a new review, I'm all over it. Your criticism of the EN is understood, however, I'm a "Bang for Buck" type of customer unwilling to pay more for the perceived value of more notable brands. I'm curious to know why the ridiculously good Standard warranty for these cars was not mentioned as a Pro, is it assumed that all car enthusiast must modify their car immediately and void the warranty?
In my opinion, the North American EN ranks 8/10... Hyundai definitely left some meat on the bone by not including AWD & serving North America with such a stripped-down version, South Korea, and other markets have Upgraded Seats (optional), rear Vents, and Moon roofs as an option for both DCT and 6MT. Sure, it would be $40k, but still worth it.

Sports seat(heated was big thing why i went en and not veloster), adaptive suspension wooot at 35k ?? Digital cluster. I said. “Yes pls”. My 1st thought? "Planned obsolescence -- used to be ANNUALLY in the 50's. You traded in every year and -- why not? You took the 25% hit because -- Brakes needed work at 35,000 miles, new muffler was due (no stainless until 30 years later?, the alternator wouldn't las 50K, the tires were worn, and the unknown maintenance breakdowns to come, well, that's why they were called unknown.
I'd lease an N Kona or Elantra for $310/month, $3999 down and turn it in if Iwas worried about next gen. Which will probably be 400HP, 8 speed, 286HP in the front, 114HP batter augmented in the back, charged by the engine ERAY style. That will be $400 a month to lease.

One of the biggest problems with Hyundai is that it doesn't have any kind of pedigree or reputation with the N badge in Motorsport or in the car community. The Veloster N already proved to be a better all around car than any ST, GTI, Si, and bites at the heels of the Type R, but the lack of history and "respect" as a solid contender comes from the fact that they're hard to trust.
You're also absolutely correct in that Hyundai doesn't get a fair chance to make any name for themselves since they kill off all of their good cars too early (rip Veloster N and Genesis Coupe)

Coming from someone who owns a Hyundai Genesis 2016 3.8 V6 with the round 348 horsepower and 320 torque. Naturally aspirated however I'm not here to flex or hate! It's quiet impressive let alone the exterior designing interior I would rate at 8 out of 10. When it comes to performance on a 2.0 plus the exhaust the cool little features that you find on a Porsche or Audi! If you have the budget I would definitely go for one. If you live in California be warned cops will humbly send you to the state ref because they're being messed up about The cars exhaust passes 96 db in N mode boom boom Pop crackless sound effects! If you do buy it please don't be pulled over driving in N mode October 16th of 2022 they made it illegal in California to be operating any vehicle that is not on drive it's b******* but hey 😂. See even the cops wish they had this car! I say the Hyundai Elantra N! Is well worth the value. Hope for the upcoming N to see a V6 o baby in that light weight car! Yes sir!
