Great review! Just an FYI, the rear bracing does actually unbolt pretty easily. So you'll lose the added rigidity for cornering, but if you're planning a trip to IKEA and need that extra space for their extra long packaging, that bracing does come out so you can fit larger items inside. Then you can just rebolt it back in once you're done.

I'm in a mk7 golf R right now and it's a 2015 so I've had it for about 7 years and time for a change. No need for AWD as I'm in Florida... And the mk8 Golf R is way too expensive. I've been looking at the Veloster N DCT or this one. I have a question for you since you've already have the Veloster N manual. What is the main reason you're looking to switch? Is it the looks? Is it the interior? The 26 extra HP and almost 30 lbs of extra torque? Wanting the 8-speed wet clutch DCT? Or just a combination of everything I mentioned? I know that the 2021 VN has 275 instead of 250 HP like in your 2020, and has the DCT option. And from what I understand in terms of a driver's car and performance, they're both pretty similar, yet the Elantra N is a bit more refined when you tone down the settings. Have you given the Elantra a test run, or are you just going to go in blind? I personally would feel much more at home in the Elantra interior than the Veloster N. Especially because the 20/20 Veloster and didn't have the 2021 Recaro style seats. However I am much prefer the looks of the Veloster N. But the interior is way too budget for me, and that's where we're sitting, and where we have all our fun so interior is really important to me. Sorry about the long post but there aren't too many people who post that have a VN and I'd love to hear your reasons for wanting to switch to a car that's very similar mechanically. Probably a lot of the stuff I mentioned. Oh yeah and have you kept it completely stock or maybe a simple jb4 power bump? That's what I think I would do for an extra 25-30 HP and TQ. Just enough to not upset the chassis or the car's natural behavior.
@@Daveyboy_RS3 My 2020 had the performance package, so it did have 275 hp. And I agree with you that I actually prefer the exterior looks of the Veloster N over the Elantra N. I actually already sold my Veloster N picked up a Cyber Grey EN with DCT. I mostly wanted a bigger back seat for family expansion as well as an auto for my wife. The interior is a huge step up from the VN. The extra torque is also noticeable. And while the DCT is great, and shifts faster than I ever could, I do miss rowing my own gears a little bit. They do drive very similar but the EN just feels more solid. Maybe it’s the weight or build quality but it just feels like a more solid car. Like moving from a civic to an accord kind of solid. I hope that answers your questions. I do miss my VN, but the EN is fantastic. It had a few minor interior rattles that are driving me nuts but I’ll find them eventually.
@@robertdean387 yeah you pretty much confirmed my suspicions on the switch. I really got to see the Elantra N in person, before I knock exterior. I'm sure seeing it on my phone doesn't do it justice. I was also under impression that all veloster N 2020 and earlier had 250 HP regardless of how it was optioned and they only bumped it up to 275 in 2021. At least that's how it was in the U.S. And I know this is a silly issue but why couldn't they add the awesome red NGS button to the Veloster N for 2022 like it is on the Kona and the Elantra?? I love that NGS (or rev matching for the manuals) red button. And I really like the leather wrapped steering wheel in the Elantra! Looks nice and thick and sporty like an M car wheel. Anyway thanks for the feedback 👍
The driving dynamics is brought to you by Albert Biermann who was at BMW for a while as their M brains . Kia/Hyundai gave him good money to lure him over. Hopefully Hyundai has a next batter up because he’s retiring. FYI the head designer for Hyundai/ Kia was at Audi and they brought him over with Albert. Look really good at these cars a few yrs back and you can find Audi touches here and there.
Personally, I think the niche this one fits in is for those of us who did the ol' street racer type Fast and Furious shit ages ago, but still want to drive a peppy car and not spend a life savings on it. I just got mine about 3 weeks ago, manual transmission and its only at 699 miles. I LOVE the car and love that it can be a bit adolescent with the exhaust pops, but doesn't stray too far into racer-ville like the Civic or Corolla.
A great car is a great car no matter the brand--I have always owned "niche" cars and drive a Konaa N now and it is a fantastic vehicle.I had a stinger and loved it--actually sold it for a profit and am just as happy with the kona N.I also like to sit up higher and honestly when you put everything in sport mode it is just as capable of many sport hatches and would eat a GTI--toyota 86--BRZ--civic SI --integra a-spec in a drag race or a track.car and driver just got a 4.8 to 60 in a Kona n so a broken in elantra with DCT should be just as fast.I actually wanted to sit higher cause I do not have to worry about damaging or sciffing the front skirts or going over speed bumps sideways.
Really enjoy your review. I want to get the DCT version too. Now it has been called Korean PDK😂 I have a question about the NVH. When you driving on the highway, does it sound load and letting you feel tired after you leave the car? My previous 2012 civic made me have tinnitus after long time highway drive.
Hi. Very good video! That last section of the clip where you're driving against the Porsche, do you perhaps have a longer version? Would love to see that 🙂. Will subscribe!!
The audio isa Bose system and isn’t terrific and the cabin is a little loud and the plastics can make noise, but when you hear that exhaust pop and crackle, you don’t care. The car is a blast. I’ve had it over a month abs I’m still excited to go to work because I know I’ll get to drive it 50 miles.
Wind noise is low road noise is low to moderate. Stereo I thought was pretty good but nothing amazing. I would say it sounds perfectly acceptable for the price tag.
Don’t forget the 10 year/100,000 mile powertrain (most expensive components) warranty. Nobody does that, but HMG has since the 90’s. I truly believe HMG (Hyundai/Kia/Genesis) will replace Toyota/Lexus. It will take time, but it will happen as long as they don’t try to fix what’s not broken, which is Toyotas secret recipe for long-term success.
did you try out the 0 to 60 timer in the N info screen....i was just checking out this N model the other day here in Canada...i think the only difference here is that we also get a heated steering wheel,,other wise pretty much the same........looking to get one.
Im planning to get the Elantra n very soon! urgent question though . 😩 is it really lower than the other elantra's? I do NOT wanna fear scraping the front lip on a curb!
It's a bit lower than the regular one but I had very little issues while I had the car, and my driveway is steep! Most cars I review tend to scrape, but no this one. It's pretty usable. Good luck with your purchase!
@@EatSleepDrive only thing I can think of is that since it is track ready, they want to leave the grill as open as possible for cooling purposes. On our Accord the radar for ACC is right in the middle of the grill. If this car had ACC, it would be the almost perfect daily driver/track day car combo.
Sir you don't know me at all. I most definitely want to drive it on the highway with the loud exhaust. I have a Borla on my current car. It also drones and that's not much of an issue lol
He corrected it in the comments. What he glossed over though was the N grin shift button. It gives 10HP for a short period of time essentially bringing total HP to 286. AND, he failed to mention that the N wasn't selected because it comes after M, (he's poking fun of course), it references testing done on the car at Namyang and the Nürburgring tracks.
I was considering the hatch, which has a simpler design, but turns out the Elantra N is based on a newer platform and is the better vehicle, I think the car is that good that I am willing to look past its looks, although it definitely has character and is unlike anything else, so it is starting to grow on me, but I'll be driving it not looking at it so that's the main thing right?
Technically this one is just the N. N-Line refers to their lesser tier model more equivalent to the Civic Si. This is closer to their Civic Type R offering, although obviously not that hardcore. But either way, I agree. I think they could have done better with the naming...
I actually traded in my 2021 Civic Type R for a Cyber gray Elantra N DCT. I have no regrets! The car drives better has much better tech my woman can drive it and what’s amazing it’s actually a little Quicker than the Type R was. The Elantra N DCT is amazing!
Great video! enjoyed. so you mentioned E 46 in the beginning and I'm now wondering does it drive or has fun factor kind of like E46? I'm curious to know because I won Veloster N DCT, and would be proud if it has similar feel like driving M series haha.
Funny, I own a Veloster N. I came from a RWD turbo and was originally not even interested in test driving it. I discovered that it was impossible to find a manual BRZ/GR86 within a full day's drive from my home. I decided to give the VN a test drive. I bought it... No car has made me smile like this one. BTW, put your Elantra N on a dyno. That 276 claimed horsepower is way low. That engine and the Veloster N engine are NOT the same.
@jeremyhenry3126 The EN has a larger turbo. They are not the same and are not interchangeable without at least a tune. The EN is pushing just North of 300 Hp at the crank. A good 25+ Hp stock for stock.
@@arthurmroyce I don't understand your comment. I didn't say a thing about a tune. About not needing one. They are the EXACT same engine. Go look it up. Which yes, you need a tune but that means you can just get an EN or hybrid or GTX2867 Garret turbo. Slap any of those on. And the EN is only pushing 276, 286 with the N grin button which is pushing more boost for 30 seconds. That's it. All of the VN's even on it's tiny turbo were pushing 275. So it's only a slight difference. Not to mention nearly 100 lbs lighter in the VN manual for manual and roughly an 80lb weight difference in the VN auto vs EN auto. I am failing to understand what it is you're trying to say. It's like you came to say I'm wrong about something just to say I'm wrong. Not to mention you need more than the EN turbo and a tune. You have to get an aftermarket HPFP, and Kona N hot side charge pipe. Then you can run the EN turbo. You can't just slap the turbo on and a tune. Won't end well. The VN HPFP can't handle what the EN turbo pushes. And the VN hot side charge pipe is too small. Becomes a chokepoint.
@jeremyhenry3126 same engine but the EN has a bigger turbo. I was not clear. The ECU is different between them too. Guys on the VN forum are looking into the EN turbo. Not a 1 to 1 swap.
@@arthurmroyce Definitely not a 1 to 1 swap. But most people that have an EN disable most of what is on it. The biggest thing it comes with is that annoying octane learning. It's great if you casually drive the car and sometimes want a power boost. But not if you're trying to make any real power with the car. Can definitely swap them though and run the EN turbo on the VN if you get the hotside charge pipe and HPFP.

Haha! That GT4 must've been asking "Wtf?!" every time they looked back.
😂
Okay... 100% the mountain bike test SOLD ME on this car now!
How would you compare this with the Veloster N you drove? Is it better/worse or pretty similar? Great review!
They're very similar. I think it comes down to how much room you need. Also the Elantra interior was a bit nicer.
Definitely my next car.
The Elantra being able to keep pace with a $100k GT4 is nuts.
holy moly that road is beautiful
Great review 👍 I been waiting for a good review like yours. I ordered a Performance Blue DCT
Great review, probably the best one yet!
Thanks for the bike test.
You bet
Oh wow! I thoroughly enjoyed your brilliant drive through the hills😁😁😁
Really enjoy your review. I want to get the DCT version too. Now it has been called Korean PDK😂 I have a question about the NVH. When you driving on the highway, does it sound load and letting you feel tired after you leave the car? My previous 2012 civic made me have tinnitus after long time highway drive.
Nope. It's very composed on long journeys.
Hi. Very good video! That last section of the clip where you're driving against the Porsche, do you perhaps have a longer version? Would love to see that 🙂. Will subscribe!!
Look forward to your review of the Kona N
Me too!
Love the bicycle test. You definitely are at Jason Camissa or Carlos Lago level of quality car reviews. Take care, Homie!
Love the bike fitting test!!!
Glad you liked it!
Those seats are amazing looking.
They feel amazing too!
The GT4 twisties looked really fun!
Very much!
The brace bar in all the N's are easy to remove. It's just a few bolts.
Hyundai should reintroduce the Elantra hatch in 'N' if the rumors of the Veloster is being cancelled in the future.
One thing that was holding me up was the fact that I didn't think my mountain bike would fit in with the brace. 😬😂
Thanks!!
Good god then got a Kona n and a bike rack !
Nice review! How is the road/cabin noise? How is the audio system? Thanks
Ive been wanting this car since I first heard about it. Just waiting for it to get tracked vs a CTR just to know where it lands. N Power baby!
It's a dope car (I'm considering one) but there's no way it's close to a Type R.
@@Clinterus Probably not on a track but with the dct it will beat it in a race I'm sure :)
That Gt4 was going on a leisurely cruise haha, still an amazing car tho.
what a great stretch of road. Nice review! New SUB.
Great review! GR86 is also in this price point. Any preference between the two?
Coupe or Sedan. Lol.
Whole lotta car for the money, if you don't live in a state that sees much snow I'd take this over a wrx any day
Totally agree.
In Australia it’s actually a lot cheaper than a golf gti. 10k plus
Fyi..the brace in the trunk unscrews! Nice review bro..this will be my next car if possible.
Great review!
Thank you!
I really hate that we don't get this in Canada. I wish we did, it'd instantly be in a Hyundai
Also, the N models have a warranty rider which covers them on the track and for autocross. It is in my Veloster N manual.
I love the way this car looks
Great review and love the bike test. Important for me ;)
16:18 “I have hella ugh I have quiet a few people” 🤣
did you try out the 0 to 60 timer in the N info screen....i was just checking out this N model the other day here in Canada...i think the only difference here is that we also get a heated steering wheel,,other wise pretty much the same........looking to get one.
@@EatSleepDrive oh really? this is great news. thank you so much!
Great review, thank you!!
Glad you enjoyed
This setup is just like on the smoking Tire which I really like, and also makes me realize how stupid fast Matt Farah drives on those canyons.
I have a 2018 Elantra sport electric blue I honestly want one of these but idk just love my electric blue.
I own a 2022 elantra N in intense blue and it looks nice. And im not a fan of blue. I got it since it was the only one.im sure u will love it 😁
Agree on adaptive cruise. Submitted comment on Hyundai website and basically got a form letter response.
It's shocking really
@@EatSleepDrive only thing I can think of is that since it is track ready, they want to leave the grill as open as possible for cooling purposes. On our Accord the radar for ACC is right in the middle of the grill.
If this car had ACC, it would be the almost perfect daily driver/track day car combo.
Sir you don't know me at all. I most definitely want to drive it on the highway with the loud exhaust. I have a Borla on my current car. It also drones and that's not much of an issue lol
Uh, is there really no comments on this? The horsepower and torque figures are objectively wrong by like a factor of 100 lol.
Dose it come with power folding side mirrors?
will the Elantra n ever be in europe?
Amazing car and review.
There are videos on how to remove the rear cross brace.
*289lb-ft of torque
I have a 22 GTI and I'm selling it for this car. It's so much better and honestly the GTI can be more expensive depending what trim you get.
That guy in the Porsche must have been surprised...by any chance did you guys have a chat afterwards ?
Nope, he pretended like it didn't happen... haha.
Does N line fall under The N division
Nice comment but I guess you missed cornering performance which is known for very carving.
The N division was not named by Albeirt
N stands for Namyang and Nurburg
How’s your gas mileage been realistically
~26mpg
Can’t believe it’s named N Line. Sounds similar to N53 Inline 6 Engine and M Series, Lmao
Technically this one is just the N. N-Line refers to their lesser tier model more equivalent to the Civic Si. This is closer to their Civic Type R offering, although obviously not that hardcore. But either way, I agree. I think they could have done better with the naming...
@@EatSleepDrive This car still a great all around car for the price. Great job Hyundai! Also good video! The beginning about bmw made my morning 😂
I can’t see this car as ugly but then I think the current model Honda Civic type R is beautiful. I love this N model
Some people hate it some people love it. It definitely stands out
I actually traded in my 2021 Civic Type R for a Cyber gray Elantra N DCT.
I'm curious to know because I won Veloster N DCT, and would be proud if it has similar feel like driving M series haha.
own*
The E46 feels quite different but mostly because it's just a totally different time period. Heck they're 20 years old at this point
How would you compare this to a Mazda 3 turbo?
Haven't driven one(yet).
N stand for Nanyang and Nurburgring. Nanyang being their R&D headquarters and Nurburgring I don’t have to explain it
Check engine light on these all day
Good news for 2024 the front has been given a facelift; works way better IMHO
Wish didn't live in Pa. Want this car a lot.
Why not?
@@Lymonade24 Because he's afraid of snow and having to pay for some snow tires. haha :)
Sick Santa Cruz 🤙
Looks better than the civic
I’m between this in manual or a new Civic Si….
I know this comment is a year old. But I'm hoping you found out that they are the same. The only difference is in the turbo.
Can definitely swap them though and run the EN turbo on the VN if you get the hotside charge pipe and HPFP.
amazing car
@5:38 😍
The N line is underrated because people still have the mentality of “iTs a hYuNdAi”
to me i like the front end of this since to me looks like a lamborgini front but thinking of this one of the cars i like to own one day it's that bad compared to the pignose bmw m3 buts its my opinion
