Suspension adjustment ranges from significantly stiffer that the Fist set up, to significantly softer....the softer setting along with the long wheelbase makes this car seem like an S-class after nearly 200k miles in two Fists lol. Finally, exhaust settings from genuinely rowdy and being "that guy" with the pops and bangs (much louder than the Mountune catback on the Fist), to the ECO or normal mode being much quieter than the Mountune exhaust. Hyundai has been killing it lately with their performance cars, along with Honda and Toyota. This looks like a great car, and probably the more refined choice compared to the Veloster N. My guess is that the new Type R will best the Elantra N, but it's also going to be more expensive and the markups are sure to be insane.
While their N line seems to be doing good, the company has had many serious recalls across their whole lineup in the last year. New class action just the other day. I'd somewhat agree they have been killing it design wise, but the quality, mechanical wise, doesn't seem to be much different than the typical Hyundai iffy quality.
Bought my 2015 Kia Sorento in March of 2017 and have had problems with it pretty much right away. Started with my key fob. The driver door does not recognize my key fob and I have to either open the passenger door to unlock my car or hit the fob multiple times before the driver's door opens. I've replaced the batteries and it hasn't helped. My alternator dies at 66K miles, which I thought was ridiculous. I called Kia to see if they would grant any good will since I was out of warranty and they did nothing. Claimed they couldn't help since I was the 2nd owner.
Barely. My Si is 6.1 and 9 years old 2013. It also has a sunroof that the Elantra needs. If US manuals had a sunroof I’d consider buying one cause they are pretty cool.
@@galacticresidue9596 yeah but then Honda made em slower after for some reason 😂 the DCT got 4.8 seconds to 60 according to C&D and comes with a moon roof. 10:04-10:22 Just like how you guys have mentioned in another video, that speed is starting to become synthetic due to EV’s being faster than anything ICE and easy to get behind and drive, I think that transmissions are also becoming very synthetic as well. Just like you mentioned that having these dual-clutched transmissions in normal “everyday” vehicles, is just as good of a feeling of connectivity as an race cars and high priced vehicles, that’s making these cars feel…boring, hence synthetic. This is why manual transmissions will always be favored as the choice for pure connective fun. Each vehicles manual transmission feels different than another’s. It also can be modified to become personal in feel and connectivity. A dual clutch on a car that is tuned, feels very much the same as another vehicles tuned dual clutch. So what I’m saying is though dual clutches are faster, they just aren’t as special…
Great review, although I totally disagree with the opinion regarding the car’s look. I think it looks magnificent all the way around, like a road assassin. The Performance Blue matches perfectly with the black nose and red trim.
Why'd you say the automatic was the only option on this car at 2:05? It has a manual option, which I believe is the superior option. You guys actually mention that later in the vid at 2:45, but it's a bit of a confusing statement early on at the first time reference point. Maybe an editing error?
Just got my space black Elantra N this past Friday...black looks so good in person btw as I ordered the car sight unseen. It's so much fun even though I'm babying it until 1000kms. Coming from driving a truck and work van this things feels so planted and quick. Can't wait for the break in to be over!
At 6’8 I also struggle with cars not having enough telescopic range on the steering wheel. I drive a MK7 Golf and my legs have plenty of room when I move the seat all the way back, but I have a hard time reaching the top of the steering wheel.
Great review guys! I'll be waiting for your Kona N review, since I want this to be my next daily. Interested in hearing your thoughts about the suspension in soft mode and it it's fine for a daily or too stiff.
I've had mine for a bit over a month now I think, approaching 1500 miles. It's pretty stiff but fine as a daily, depending on your tolerance for it at least. I'm coming from a 2008 Mini w/sport suspension and it feels comparable (maybe a bit rougher) so I was kinda used to that type of ride. I think the middle setting is the best, might be a little harder (not entirely sure there) but the big difference is that it basically dampens out all the bounciness present in the lowest setting. I haven't bothered with the hardest setting since testing it out on the long way home from the dealer, can't see using that one except on perfectly smooth road/track. One last thing to keep in mind (from what I vaguely remember reading) is that the seats are supposedly more livable than the ones in the other N models, so that probably helps a bit.
@@1209MArky Looking at the video here it's Normal/Sport/Sport+, so yeah Sport. I used to swap between Normal and Sport as part of how my N custom modes were set up, but once I noticed how bouncy Normal was (or conversely, how much more composed Sport was) I switched it to Sport for both custom modes.
When Zack took his shades odd at 13:50 I thought he was going to pull a gun and start shouting put down your weapon, stand down. That moustache is powerful.
You're not controlling the burble tune through the entertainment settings. That's only controlling the pumped in audio. It's off by default in the normal N mode and can only be enabled in the custom setting. The exhaust setting controls the pops and bangs and they only happen in full sport+.
I don't think this car should be compared to gti/gli because it's so much better than any of those but at the same time can't be compared to type R/golf R because these two are slightly better. Elantra N it's kinda of a lone wolf
Fantastic point about the width of the seat base. I tried out the i30n with the N Light seats here in Australia, and i felt like i was sitting ontop of the thigh bolsters - and i am by no means a large guy. I consider this a bit of a deal breaker, as i think the standard cloth seats that we get here just don't cut it. I'm buying a GR Yaris instead.
I'm interested in Kona N. Especially how much more room do you get with Kona over Veloster. Imo they more similar then different on the interior space. Just taller packaging.
13:15 The front of the car receives a substantial redesign for 2014 that is much more appealing, also better looking wheels IMO. Other styling changes are minor.
What you're talking about with the display panels is an OLED vs LCD panel. An OLED will be very black and vivid, much better than most LCD's. OLED's do experience burn-in which could be an issue down the line for repairability. I still kinda think most cars in 2022 should have OLED.
I was so excited to drive the N, it was perfect in every way but one. I just could not live with the seats, too aggressive. Went and bought a GTI instead, I am thrilled with it.
“How ‘tall’ are you?” That my friends, is a euphemism for a particular herd of people who tend to complain about seats that nobody else complains about. :/

I maybe in the minority, but I like the face. It's futuristic in the way the 90's design language moved forward from angular 70's and 80's design

The Elantra N-Line is faster than an Si. This is a whole other level.
So a type r would be a better competitor
@@mdogzino yeah but they are in two different price points!
That's almost 2 seconds faster than the '22 Civic, I would say performance wise they're in different classes. I myself don't care too much about 0-60 or a moon roof, though it'd be nice to have, so 6 spd it is.
@@joshisthebestwooha20 I agree I could probably settle for no sunroof! It’s just the fact that it’s a Hyundai that kinda bothers me lmao
So great to hear people like these guys talk highly about a Hyundai and an N product… love my Veloster N.
Putting the exhaust noise the the TCR race car mode is just 👌
Was that Zack screaming during the drive by shot??? LMAO
I love the way Front Grill looks. I dont know why so many people don't like it
Albert Biermann also gave the EV6 the same top speed as the Porsche Taycan Turbo S.
Over 20,000 rpm.
Love the seats. They are comfortable for me at 180 lbs. Don't mind the front and have not had anyone say different
I’ve had my 2022 Elantra Hybrid for 6 months and I love it. Obviously not the same as the N but a very nice car with lots of features and more comfortable seats in the Limited trim. I’ve also gotten over 50 mpg in some commuting type situations.
I have a lexus ct200h and want an Elantra N (car guy and finally old enough to afford something fast) but my buddy got an Elantra hybrid.
I drive a lot and i'd have a hard time giving up 40+ mpg
I don’t think the front looks bad. Black on black definitely works. Maybe wrapping except for the black grill part would do the trick.
Man. I might want to trade in my v60 CC for this. This seems like a good mix of fun and practicality
I feel like the V60 CC has a nice plush ride compared to this. I'd take it for a long test drive before committing.
@@mr2turbo12 it does, and you’re right. It’s a comfort machine but is so boring to drive. I’ve previously had a genesis coupe too so Hyundai’s comfort is pretty decent for the money I think.
Anyone else hear the scream at 10:03? 😂
What a coincidence, this morning I just got an invite Hyundai to drive N cars at Laguna Seca. I'm thinking of going since I plan to buy one.
The Elantra N is way more hardcore than the Civic Si. It competes more with the Type R tbh.
10:04-10:22
Just like how you guys have mentioned in another video, that speed is starting to become synthetic due to EV’s being faster than anything ICE and easy to get behind and drive, I think that transmissions are also becoming very synthetic as well.
Kona N and Elantra N are awesome machines and are my favorite performance N models from Hyundai
Why'd you say the automatic was the only option on this car at 2:05? It has a manual option, which I believe is the superior option. You guys actually mention that later in the vid at 2:45, but it's a bit of a confusing statement early on at the first time reference point. Maybe an editing error?
They meant that the manual was the “base” model and the only other “option” to choose was the DCT
Just got my space black Elantra N this past Friday...black looks so good in person btw as I ordered the car sight unseen. It's so much fun even though I'm babying it until 1000kms. Coming from driving a truck and work van this things feels so planted and quick. Can't wait for the break in to be over!
What did you pay OTD?
At 6’8 I also struggle with cars not having enough telescopic range on the steering wheel. I drive a MK7 Golf and my legs have plenty of room when I move the seat all the way back, but I have a hard time reaching the top of the steering wheel.
Great review guys! I'll be waiting for your Kona N review, since I want this to be my next daily.
Interested in hearing your thoughts about the suspension in soft mode and it it's fine for a daily or too stiff.
I just got mine yesterday. Normal mode is like my stock GTI suspension. Maybe a tiny bit firmer.
@@japtor you keep it on sport suspension? That’s the middle setting?
@@1209MArky Looking at the video here it's Normal/Sport/Sport+, so yeah Sport. I used to swap between Normal and Sport as part of how my N custom modes were set up, but once I noticed how bouncy Normal was (or conversely, how much more composed Sport was) I switched it to Sport for both custom modes.
@@japtor interesting. I only used normal or N. Haven’t tried sport mode. I’m surprised sport is better,
that warranty really makes this an interesting prospect
Awesome review but l felt the car would bottom out at most road imperfections. Did it feel like that?
Sounds like you need the firmer setting if it's truly bottoming out.
When Zack took his shades odd at 13:50 I thought he was going to pull a gun and start shouting put down your weapon, stand down. That moustache is powerful.
You have quite the imagination
sun roof comes with manual also in Canada
Yes but Canada comes with Trudeau
In my mind the Elantra N-line is the competitor to the Civic Si, while the Elantra N as you tested is in competition with the Type R.
You're not controlling the burble tune through the entertainment settings. That's only controlling the pumped in audio. It's off by default in the normal N mode and can only be enabled in the custom setting. The exhaust setting controls the pops and bangs and they only happen in full sport+.
the icing on the cake is that 10 year drivetrain warranty
I daily drive a tuned 2020 Elantra Sport 6 speed MT. Absolutely love it.
its a shame we dont get that car here in europe.
i would trade my i30N Fastback for an Elantra N immediately
Was that a saxophone at 10:00 or something coming from the engine bay?
I don't think this car should be compared to gti/gli because it's so much better than any of those but at the same time can't be compared to type R/golf R because these two are slightly better. Elantra N it's kinda of a lone wolf
Fantastic point about the width of the seat base. I tried out the i30n with the N Light seats here in Australia, and i felt like i was sitting ontop of the thigh bolsters - and i am by no means a large guy. I consider this a bit of a deal breaker, as i think the standard cloth seats that we get here just don't cut it. I'm buying a GR Yaris instead.
Just an FYI- VW has already updated the chipset and software in the Golf. Autogefuhl just posted a new vid and Thomas was impressed.
Is the inside of the trunk lid hollow? I hope it’s hollow. I could keep stuff in there like paper towels.
In Canada, we have the sunroof with either manuel or automatic transmission.
I tried to look this up but the DCT clutch pads are wear and tear and generally NOT covered under powertrain.
This is a beautiful car. I think people don't like it because it's ahead of its time, design wise.
10 year viewer. Love this channel more than ever
I'm interested in Kona N. Especially how much more room do you get with Kona over Veloster. Imo they more similar then different on the interior space. Just taller packaging.
Can't wait to see the Corolla GR on here
I'm sorry, did you say Manual has no Sunroof??
13:15 The front of the car receives a substantial redesign for 2014 that is much more appealing, also better looking wheels IMO. Other styling changes are minor.
Wish the design was not so overwhelming, sounds like a really good package for the price
I for one love the front. Many people seem to hate it but i love it…i cant be the only one
“How ‘tall’ are you?” That my friends, is a euphemism for a particular herd of people who tend to complain about seats that nobody else complains about. :/
automatic is the only option available? it comes in a 6 speed manual too right?
Surprised you guys did not get the 6 speed manual, but I guess if it's the only cost-added option, you might as well.
Press cars are usually loaded.
We asked for the manual but it was not available during the week we needed the car.
Why get the manual ?! It's slower...get the best I say !
@@patrickbilodeau3785 people like you should buy the DCT because you clearly do not understand why people prefer manual. Its about the experience, not speed.
@@patrickbilodeau3785 at the same time, few opportunities exist in daily life to convert the potential of a DCT into reality while at least with a manual you know more or less that you're getting the most out of it in more situations.
People either hate or love the front of the car, I don't think I've seen anyone in between. Personally, I absolutely love it and everything else about the car
Zack, keep the stache. It works for you
Awesome vid guys! Any chance you'll be taking a look at the i20N/i30N?
side note: was awesome hearing Matt on 2B1C today, sounds like alot of effort behind the scenes to get that all sorted for Tom, what an awesome friend.
sadly don't think those are sold in the usa. I wish I could get an i30 wagon here.
Seeing it in person the car and front is very nice. My pB DCT is on its way to my dealership
I believe Matt & I are about the same size & I'd love for the steering wheel in my Forte GT to come out 1 more inch as well. Seems like a small gripe but it would definitely make the driving experience better.
Nice side profile, but front and rear need some changes.
Once they do the Kona N - the only answer I want is which of the 3 they would buy for themselves - Kona N, Veloster N or Elantra N if that were their options.
2024 gets a facelift in front 😉 and tweaked In rear. There are photos out, it's subjectively an improvement.
your video you put out of the other one made me start saving for one and I'm glad this video just reinforced that decision! i cant wait!
What about the Camry TRD sport with the spoiler
I think the front is great that you do not have to worry about rock chips when you take it to track
I sat in the seat and got instant back pain, I'm pretty fat. Also the stealership was charging a $4k markup...made it a $40k car...not worth it.

I don't think you guys explained why you said the DCT is the only "real" option here. At the end of the video, you said you like the 6MT from the Veloster.
They mean in terms of optional equipment for the car. Other than the DCT the only options are things like cargo nets.

If the veloster didnt have the stupid doors I would be so into it, this seems like a nice car though, wish it wasn't FWD.
Kona N seems to fix the stupid door issue
That "stupid door" is actually a godsend. So glad there is 2 doors on the passenger side. Now the driver (me) has a huge door to pass in and out of and my passengers can get in without having to move a single seat and i can easily throw things in the back as well. Great design imo.
