We raced those against the WRX, GR 86,Miata, BMW, m240i and the ELANTRA N beat them all on road America’s kart track. It was pretty impressive and we had really skilled drivers.
Tell me more about racing on RA's kart track! Wish I were closer. Minneapolis is too far for regular visits.
M240i? That's probably the only one that's surprising
Dct or manual? I am assuming dct will probably edge out even fl5 type r based on more power with faster yet lesser chance of error with auto
@@yusuf8938 this is on track and the EN holds speed through corners really good
I've been saying for years Kia Hyundai use poor cheap wire harnesses which turn into electrical problems on the vehicles & now fires, I had a 16 Sorento what a nightmare almost everything broke electrical issues up the a** battery continually dying, moon roof wouldn't close just a disaster, they entice with the designs of the car but reliability eventually catches up to you... I remember Hyundai back in the 80s Pony Stellar were also disasters.
Got mine in Feb of 22. No regrets. Been very good to me, its been great as a family car, and it's seriously the only thing that gets me excited about going to work in the morning. I leave early and take the long way just to have a little *safe* fun.
"the only thing that gets me excited about going to work in the morning"
You know you've got a fun car if you feel this way and I bet you purposely look for twisty, back roads lol
@@drsnowmon You bet correctly
Has it been reliable?
@danielsoto_toronto I've had zero issues with the car. Obviously I'm just one case, but so far, so good.
I just bought a performance blue dct EN and when I drive this car it puts a smile on my face. And it doesn’t break the bank. I can’t wait for the spring and summer to get here! You really have to drive it to understand just how fun it is.
Same here! Just got an intense blue CVT last Friday and it's amazing. This is coming from someone who loves driving manual too, the DCT in these really is a gem
This car is not just made suddenly, this car is manufactured with lots of information and skills from WRC and TRC racing
I’m a big Honda fan. Test drove the N and I was extremely impressed. Most likely my next car!!
I also was a Honda fan--but in 2020 I chose a 2020 Stinger GT AWD 3.3tt over it and then again in 2022 when I had sold the stinger(for a 10k plus profit)--the Type R are marked up and even though it might have the best manual in the world--it just cant keep up--raced a buddies brand new 24 Type R in my 22 Kona N and by the 1/8 mile I had him by 2 car lengths in normal mode--my Kona did a 4.8 to 60 according to draggy--freinds Type R was at 5.6--the wet DCT in the Kona simply shifts too quick over a manual. Also after an update the Kona has literally every track in america that you can pull up in the nav and go racing and it will show you the best lines to take along with an overview of the track
There is a refreshed version for 2024. New front end, new wheels and a slight tweak to rear. Its actually *a lot* better looking in the refreshed design.
I own an Elantra N with the DCT and I really hope you guys try it at some point - the shifts at WOT with NGS in N mode are absolutely wild!
Real drivers want manual
We were pretty impressed with it in the Kona N.
@@stancemedia4727no they drive DCTs on track
Strange they didnt promote the DCT. Its the best in class and was a real threat for the now previous gen Civic Type R guys.
@@stancemedia4727 Have you been asleep for 20 years? DCT's are faster than manuals, real drivers want to go faster.
Hi, from Japan. It seems so fun to drive. In my opinion, the car is more like for young man when I think about the design and performance. Civic Type R is more the car along to family and also fun. However, one of these cars which can make us excited is Elantra definitely. Anyway, thanks for the fun making popcorn film. Have a nice weekend!!
I think the Elantra has more room than Civic type R
Longer wheelbase also
Both are 4 door and can fit kids in the back :)
Been daily driving my N since March 2022. This car is a beast!
Any issues at all? How many miles have you put on it? I’m considering getting one, but everyone keeps telling me how bad Hyundais are for reliability.
@@chrissahagun4803 I’m at 13,000 miles with no issues. Everyone can say what they want about reliability but we all know cars are not made the way they used to be made no matter what manufacturer you go with. The nice thing is hyundai has a great warranty and as long as you keep it stock they will honor it. For the price, the performance and quality of the interior is amazing and I would highly recommend
@@chrissahagun4803’m at 10k … no issues and no regrets!✌️
Love this car and adore the styling, it looks like it's moving when it's parked, and my favourite thing is the styling matches its noisy, fun character 😁😁😁😁 loved your review 👏👏👏
Its hideous
I have the i30 sedan N (yes that's the name of the Elantra N in Australia) they don't have the sport bucket seats. They have the 'sporty' electric seats. My wife has the seats you get in her i30n hatch. They are good but getting in and out every day in you 40s is a pain. Also we get air vents in the back. Happy to take so photos to show you.
Just got a Kona N....after 36 years of driving/owning some special cars, "N" is the real deal.
I got a Kona N and also love it--had a stinger and wound up selling it for more then 10k what I paid for.Every repair I have ever needed was done for free by KIA--Hyundai--had the software upgrade on the DCT last month and it runs perfect.BTW a neighbor has a Type R and we raced a few weeks ago and it was not even close--probably 2 car lengths by the 1/8 mle because the DCT shifts so fast.I also looked at a Type R and Golf R twice--once in 2020 and bought a 3.3 AWD Stinger GT --which was cheaper by 7k over those two and would smoke them and again in 22--the Golf R was faster but they were asking almost 50k for those and only a 3 year warranty and it sat really low to the ground.Loved the new type R but same thing--50k price tag and because it was a manual it was not as fast as the kona.Oh and I was in normal mode when I took my neighbors Type R.They skimp on interior quality but hard plastics resist stains and water--but brakes--tranny--computer----and the stereo is fanatastic--Kona N is way more comfortable because its a small SUV and its very easy to drive and it was only .2 of a second slower then the elantra N at sebring in a test.
People don’t understand it’s a $30.000 car as manual. It’s also a sedan with PS4 tires. Keep in mind, cars like the Corolla GR are also significantly less practical for daily use and cost 10k more.
Amen
I love my Kona N
There's nothing close to it, price, performance and a joy to drive. I still miss my Miata and that's another topic though.
They sold how fun this car is to them. definitely fun and informative review. Can't wait for them to compare it against the competitors.
Amazing video guys and this video makes me even more excited to get my Elantra N
Go get one! I love mine!
It drives like a bmw m2 .. it's perfect
Hi guys........ Todd, Paul which should we buy GR 86 or the Elantra N ? This has more power and is more usable, quite the quandary wouldn't you say. By the way I was the guy who wrote to you a few years back about my 69 Datsun 2000 and suggested you go drive one and to my surprise you did a month later just before my birthday April 25. Mine was white without stripes, loved that car. Thanks for that and all of your awesome content. Love you guys, God bless you both and I wish you all the best and continued success. One day I will join you on your yearly pilgrimage to Germany. Until then "Party on Garth, party on Wayne."... Aka Paul and Todd lol. Peace out!

The GR86 is a better drivers car.
@@NewCastleIndiana can confirm. Though not exactly the same I had a 22 BRZ that I ended up trading in for a Veloster N. Both cars are extremely similar to their GR86 and EN counterparts. The BRZ/GR86 is a drivers car, but I had to trade mine in so that my child could have more legroom. That is the only reason why I traded it in. However, both cars are an amazing experience, and will not leave you disappointed. Will say that the stock pops, turbo, and 10 year warranty are a major plus for the EN.
@@44actual Not a fan of the pops but then again i am older wa wa. thank you for the insight, much appreciated.
@@crashn2me105 if it’s any consolation you can change the settings so that there are no pops, but there’s no loss of performance. Definitely test, drive both cars if you have the opportunity.
@@44actualThanks again you rule . I will keep that in mind. I plan on buying my new ride in a few months if not sooner. Personally I prefer small sporty cars but above all who doesn't want more power not to mention if you've ever driven a car with turbo its a drug initself. As Huey one said "One that won't make me sick
One that won't make me crash my car
Or make me feel three feet thick
One of your best videos!!
Okay, you guys had me laughing and smiling while watching this. Seems like a really fun car. Great title too: "Constant Appluse". :D
I can't stand the styling, but it looks like I should test drive one anyway. Looking for a practical yet "sporty" / "engaging" sedan, hatch, or wagon option to replace an Accord V6 Coupe. And I need an an automatic that's not awful.
I am considering the Kona N for the same reason.
5:20 my 4 year old son has had to forgive me for doing this every day in my Veloster N 😂
Test drove this car and was giddy in love!
I'm in agreement re the odd looks, but here in the UK I have an i30N which makes me very happy and looks so much better!
These cars are amazing! I couldn't believe it after I finally rode in one! Absolutely exceptional handling and dead equal to the Civic Type R or Mitsubishi Evo.
thought hard about this one; dealers are still marking these up pretty hard in my area, and the dealership/service dept experience at our closest store isn't the best either. Boy I really wanted to try to make it work but I ended up in an Si. Not nearly as fast, but still quite fun and extraordinarily frugal (I'm getting 41 hwy and 28 city) which for me is a big deal snice I drive 30-40k a year for work. Still, there's no doubt the N is special!
Thanks for sharing and Im impressed you were still able to get hold of an Si. Is the Baltimore area still really bad with getting a Hyundai N? How much of a markup were they giving you? I am in no rush to get one, but I am hoping within the next 2 years I can get one without as ridiculous a markup.
@@jpking0 my car was crushed by a tree on 12/23 so I couldn't wait, although I wish I could have. The week I needed to buy, there was one Elantra N and it was $5k over MSRP, so $40k. There were 2 Si's, the cheaper of which was $2k over, or $31k. I bought the Si. It's not the fastest thing, it's a momentum car for sure, but it is light and agile, I'm getting great economy (important since I drive 30k a year for work) and it feels well put together, like it is going to last a long time. You'll get your N as soon as supply catches up : )
I like how the Veloster N looks a lot more than this. Sure, it's unique but something with all these designs don't fit together on the Elantra.
A great, fun, affordable car that id have to get in black (HAVING to buy black is neither a complement nor desireable fwiw). Still, cool car at a great price, it's a (fugly) win.
I honestly can't think of a better looking 4 door, 4 cyl, FWD vehicle 🤔
I agree with not liking the exterior looks very much. Similar to the way I much prefer the subdued looks of the current Civic Type R over their previous generation. It is a dealbreaker factor for me. Just make it look like a blank slate instead so it can work for anyone; then if you want really aggressive looks like this, there’s aftermarket aesthetic parts for that.
People don't want boring anymore it's 2023.
@@mharro88 Again, it’s as easy as getting aftermarket parts if you really want to customize the looks of the car. If it is already too aggressive from the start, it’s much harder to customize the looks the way different people want. This car in particular looks too much like a Gundam/boy racer style, like the Civic Type R of the past. Honda realized it and went back to their roots in terms of conservative looks for a sleeper car feel. Great thing about the current CTR is that you can still customize it to look similar to its previous generation again, or not and keep the sleeper look.
@@Tunnelsnakes get it in white like I did looks very tame and classy. I think the type r looks like shit. The nose of it is like a accord.
Ypu can buy bumper layovers or just paint the bumper and done
I really want one, but I sadly agree with Todd. I don't like the exterior styling-especially the front grill, but also the overall shape and proportions.
When driving with my kids, we talk about cars we see. Even to my 10 year-old it's clear that (most) porsches are expensive without knowing the badge.
Current gen Mazda 3 and Civic, though very different from each other, are much more eye-pleasing with the restrained design. I love Kia Stinger's shape. If the shape is well done from the beginning, it doesn't need all these extra body lines.
The rear 3/4 looks nice though :)
Interested in the DNA but the shell is hard to appreciate
its the wrong colour, look at the cyber grey, then imagine blacking out the badges and lip kits
In Canada my MT gets sunroof, heated steering wheel, and auto dim rear view mirror!
Yep...that sucks for the US. You are lucky. I may get the CA spec model somehow.
Great review
Great vehicle and exceptional value. If I had to nit pick, I would adjust the front end a bit and slightly improve the interior.
If a decade ago you said that Hyundai would make an insanely fast Elantra, nobody would believed you.
I’m conflicted in terms of transmission for this car. My current car is an auto and it bores me to tears but it seems like the dct is the version to get for the Elantra n. But if I get this car, I’d find it hard to want to get another auto
The looks are definitely subjective, my son has a regular Elantra and my wife loves the looks, I'm mixed but not as hateful as Todd :)
I want to know how many 50 year old plus guys enjoy the ride. I swear, it sucks getting older. My eyes and brain still love rowdy cars, but my body.......
50+ owner and at least with 40-series winter tires on 18s (minus-1 from stock) it's not at all bad -- in the softest of the 3 suspension settings the ride is still firm and controlled but nowhere near punishing. We'll see how the stock 35s affect that when the weather warms up. Could see myself going with 18s year-round considering the state of the roads where I live. My experience of the car mirrors theirs though -- perfectly capable of family-friendly daily duty, and an absolute riot when you let it off the leash.
I just got the manual cyber grey and loving every minute of it! I’m 52 btw
Can you put it in n mode with middle exhaust setting? My Camaro had the pops and it got annoying.
For those who saying the front is ugly, there are aftermarket overlays now for the front bumper
This is going to be a special car
I said same thing when they first released the #'s for this car.
Practical and high level of real performance
Identical to my Canadian version, but I got a button for heated seat and sunroof. I agree with clutch take-up, especial when coming from 2017 Civic with NA 2.0L engine (Initial clutch take-up in that car was blissful). I did find, after 2nd fill-up, clutch take-up got significantly better (starting to wonder if dealership put in wrong gas) and today, I'm going to replace wheel with lighter (Fast Wheel FC4) weight 18lbs. My gripe with clutch take-up might be related to heavier wheel...too much rotational inertia causing car to stall, even when it's already on the move. Anyways, hoping the significantly lighter rims solves the issue and if it does, it'll probably convert those reviewers who prefer the Si as a daily.
Regarding seats, Initial feel for N's seat is deceptive...they're probably the best seat in any production car ever made. Once you wear them in, back support appears, but it'll take awhile for lighter people.
Did you drive it in the winter? If so how was it? I have about 3 months until I'm buying a car. Originally was looking at the Kia K5 Gt-Line awd. Then I wanted something more sports performance based like the Kia K5 GT. Also the WRX for the awd plus performance. But the EN has my eyes and attention the most. Winter driving is the only thing I'm concerned about. You said you're in Canada, so you'd probably be best to ask lol.
@@C_Santiago7 Winter came as soon as I put on my Kumho All-Weather tire (on awesome 18lb rims) and I've since done 10K in the last 7 weeks in some of the worst storms for the winter. Only thing that'll pull better, up a snow filled mountain road, is an AWD... When even the snow removal vehicles were stuck in the side of the road, I was the only sedan still on the move. Has to do with my manual transmission and precision required to bust through a snow bank (left by blows) and not end up in the guard rail immediately after.
@parsram I see you said manual. I'd be going for the dct. But yea, that answers my question pretty well I think. Thank you.
Man the IS doesn't get the manual with a sunroof. You have to get the CA spec for the sunroof with the manual...sucks!
15:05 I'm glad you mentioned that. Maybe I get one of these instead of a G80!
If you have the G80 and Elantra N in your radar, do try the G70 with the V6. Its a real sleeper.
I'm very interested in how Paul can feel the BMW-ness of the Elantra N. At 34k, is the Elantra N or a 2015-16 BMW M235i at low 30s a better buy? Curve ball is the 230i with all of the M-sport options.
My take: 34k with a warranty or 34k without. Idk about reliability for either one which is why I kept it simple
I’d argue that the hyundai warranty means squat, from hyundai ownership perspective. M235i with the inline 6 may be more fun, but the early model m240i for the b58 reliability may be worthwhile with the manual. Hyundai Elantra N’s low repair and running costs though completely eclipse the m235i, and there’s more included enthusiast features. My experience with the F22 chassis 2 series is that they’re overly stiff from factory. I’d buy the Elantra N for the enthusiast factor.
It's best u drive an m240i then the n back to back... u will straight away now what he means
@@andreshado the warranty means more than u thinks especially ina would where chip shortage and chip issues are galore
I can tell you it feels like an e36 m3 in FWD form. The car can definitely oversteer
This is the fun car for the youths who love the Need for Speed video games, and I don't think that's a negative. It seems like a fun car to drive with great performance at an affordable price. You can't be mad at this car, no matter how ugly the front end is lol.
This is a car I really want to love, but the front end is too much for me. I am still psyched Hyundai makes this product though as the sports sedan with a manual is a dying breed that honestly needs to be championed.
Its DCT is a better choice compared to the MT. From a stop light, the MT car would jump terrible. Probably an engine mount would solve that. But it is inexcusable in a sport car like this one.
@TestDrive Elantra-N vs Camry TRD? Can we make it happen?
Love my Veloster N manual. Elantra is nice but to long and too many doors. Always prefer a hot hatch vs. sedan.
I don't think that HYUNDAI will make kind of this car with this price tag anymore,
This car indicates that HYUNDAI can make this level of car to the world, as I know HYUNDAI is not really profitable from selling the current N models.
Not a fan of the color, but I think this could be an attractive car if they dialed back the styling in a more subdued way, like lose the spoiler and fill in the black on the fenders.
the black is fine the triangles on the doors bother me a bit but not much

@gagedykstra8602 Si isn't the best performance civic. The Type R is. The Si is more comparable to a golf GTI, while the Elantra N is better compared to a Golf R or Type R. Just like BMWs ///M division, N line is a very serious in-house performance division

I tracked my N at Streets of Willow and got a better time than BMWs, a corvette and a Porsche in my group.
That’s exactly what we found out at road America
If I ever move to a summer only climate I would consider trading my F80 M3 manual for this. my BMW has been ultra reliable, but some peace of mind and mpg would be nice. It’s a shame it’s ugly but so are all the new BMWs, minus the Supra. 😁

I don't have any doubt that is a great performing sport car, but is ugly as hell, the front is horrendous, and the rear spoiler looks very cheap, like an add-on.
Was there any “nebulous" handling, “bizarre” engineering, or other “proclivities” from the script quite frankly? 😉 📝
Red shirt guy is the reason we are gonna get soulless minimalist design cars going forward. 😡
Why don't people ever review the DCT which is quicker. This shits on the GTI
I think Golf R as well
Everything has its pros and cons. GTI starts $6k less than this EN in Canada. I would expect N to be that much better. I think EN is really ugly on the outside but nicer inside than GTI. GTI Is a better all around car while EN would be more fun to drive.
Because automatics are boring?
