Just the perfect level of fun and sportiness for me as a daily, and personally I like the interior in this more than the current gen Civics.
I want this car but the front axle seems like a deal breaker. If what TH says is true. Then buying these used would be a nightmare. May go for the N line.
@Ed Findlay so what happens after 10yrs? Or when Hyundai stops making the part. Sometimes warranties do not carry over if buying used. Or gets reduced drastically to like 1yr or so.
I got a black DCT EN and I’ve got no regrets. With dealer markups on all cars the type R would’ve been a bit over my budget. Also the exhaust note is just miles ahead of the civic.
Its thanks to guys like Throttle House that help me develop the language for what I want of an sports car ahead of the experience. The way Thomas described the steering, weight transfer, chasis dynamics, thats what I like! Or at least excites my curiosity. The Elantra N could have the 1.6 T and still be a buy for me if it keeps all those handling elements
The CN7 chassis feels fantastic, the rear's absolutely planted compared to my Veloster, turn in's good. I do wish the N-Line's got a hair more love when it comes to suspension and brakes though
"The way Thomas described the steering, weight transfer, chasis dynamics, thats what I like!" Sadly this has become less and less important on modern cars, even performance or drivers cars. Luckilythere still are manufacturers that care about it as much as enthusiasts and not the biggest numbers like many others.

Ive had my elantra N for about 600 miles now. The car is everything I could of asked for. Drives like a beast, the interior tech is crazy... Lane keep assist is very strong. My only complaint is its not great in the snow but I havent gotten snow tires yet. Also, you can buy pass that funky front design by getting the black color. Not even noticeable
Great video! Love my EN so far. I have to admit, being 35 years old, they hit the nail on the head of the “feeling of youthfulness”. This vehicle is capable of being a fast and fun daily driver, while also being able to be the reliable family sedan.
I'm 35 and thinking of getting one as well. Depends on what the new Civic Type R is like and what the used car market is like in a year. I need a fun DD. My current Elantra GT is long in tooth (02) and my Porsche TT doesn't need to be driven everywhere. I personally have a sweet spot for fun economy cars, more so than other cars, I think because for a looooooong time they were all I could afford. BTW the Elantra N looks amazing in red!!
Just some cool info for the N badging. The all powerful Albert Biermann, VP of engineering for BMW M in the 80's until recent when he joined Hyundai and banged life into the N models. Hyundai says "N" is for Namyang, where the product and development of the vehicle took place, and Nurburgring where the road and handling took place. Albert Biermann may have retired but you can definitely feel his seeds spread all over these cars and I can't wait to take delivery of mine and take it in the face.
@@luislinares690 I mean come on, it's impressive to see a brand create something within 6 years that's relatively competitive with the likes of the Type R.
@@luislinares690 it helps when your car is designed by the former lead engineer of the BMW M division. Nobody doubts the Type R, but for 10k extra in my pocket (ignoring markup), the N is pretty awesome
depending on the person the price difference is having the stock rims for snow in those regions, a track rim/tire setup. Or in the west having an eco/daily tire with the stock rims and a track rim/tire setup for the weekend. For those individuals the N is pretty viable out of the gate with those concepts as priorities. Or a chip tune+side rims/tires. Thats what i see same with a gr86 vs a 40 thousand dollar FI option.
It's not "Die" at the end. Vice President of Hyundai confirmed on the Rachel Ray show (in America) years ago that the company brand name is pronounced "Hun-day." Which makes sense because no automaker wants to be associated with the word "Die" anywhere in its brand name. However, thumbs-up for letting us know that you need to keep the revs up to get real fun out of this car, in terms of performance. Not what I'm looking for in my soon-to-be next car. I need the performance to kick in down low.

I know you guys have tracked the veloster n, but are there any plans on putting this on the track at some point to see how well Hyundai has done and how well it competes with its 4-door competition from Honda?
it's pretty fast, on a smaller and slower track of, it's as fast as a M2 Coupe and .5 slower than the A45S. mind that it was a small and slow track of, where HP is less relevant and the lsd and chassis one Elantra is extremely important
The Hyundai dealer at the auto group I work for got one. Got to hear that exhaust first-hand and let me tell you, there's never been a better sounding turbo-4. AND it has a manual, as it should.
Another awesome collab guest appearance! Love Rory too as a reviewer. As for the Elantra N: There's definitely nothing else I'd take over it in that price range, and I'd have mine in Cyber Grey DCT.
As an employee of Hyundai, we have not heard anything towards that and it seems like the Elantra gt/hatchback has been discontinued and it’ll stay like that
@Patrick Bai that i dont get, the i30N & i20N are becoming more and more popular in europe, but the entirety of the usa gets a weirdly shaped veloster & the elantra, which we dont get 🥴

Wow. Hyundai am rooting for alot. You see Toyota needs to make something like this with the corolla that still gives the option of a manual just cos it's very fun to drive. This elantra just does it for me. Will choose this over a corolla for the manual and sportiness
ive owned quiet a lot of european & american sportscars. and i can tell you those Hyundais are really fun to drive, they arent those shitboxes from the 90s & you dont need 500hp to have fun.

Every 4 lb you remove from the rotating assembly, brakes, tires and wheels etc, is the same as removing 200 lb from the vehicle. Pretty smart place to lose the weight, actually. Mind you Hyundai is pretty smart

I've had one in the 6MT for about a month now and I love it. I was heavily debating on if I should have waited for the new Type R or not but now I don't regret it at all. Just the perfect level of fun and sportiness for me as a daily, and personally I like the interior in this more than the current gen Civics.
I want this car but the front axle seems like a deal breaker. If what TH says is true. Then buying these used would be a nightmare.
May go for the N line.
@@dnegel9546 🤦♂ 🤦♂
@Ed Findlay so what happens after 10yrs? Or when Hyundai stops making the part.
Sometimes warranties do not carry over if buying used. Or gets reduced drastically to like 1yr or so.
I got a black DCT EN and I’ve got no regrets. With dealer markups on all cars the type R would’ve been a bit over my budget. Also the exhaust note is just miles ahead of the civic.
@@dnegel9546 You will be able to get full aftermarket parts. Also if you take good care of your car it won’t go bust. 10 years is a long time.
I drove the base model Elantra and I thought it was the N, it was kicking ass, one of the fastest cars I drove this month so I can imagine the N.
Base model? I got the 2017 se with 157hp, Try the sport model

@@iluvcakes19 It'll definitely be riddled with the markups!! i doubt it will remain affordable than the elantra!
I just turned 35 and thinking of “downgrading” from a Lexus IS 350 to this. However, I don’t think I’d be really downgrading at all.
I love this car. The interior and tech is mind blowing for it's price. best of all it's got power and handles incredibly
I absolutely love the N Division of Hyundai. They have really set the bar to be able to compete with the likes of the Civic.
Lol . Chill foo. Honda has a legacy of decades and just one car generation is on par with Honda? Lmao
@@luislinares690 I mean come on, it's impressive to see a brand create something within 6 years that's relatively competitive with the likes of the Type R.
@@luislinares690 yeah but like 10k less, japanese cars are kind of a joke atm, it's sad as a jdm fan
Another great review and hilarious intro, including asking Rory. Excellent job as always.
Love it gents! Picking mine up mid-March and couldn’t be more excited.
Can't overstate how much I enjoy these videos. Very much. Every time I check if there's a Patreon or something to drop my monies into it.
This is so far the best intro.. Roy is one of the amazing reviewers out there 🔥🔥
Whoever does your video editing deserves a massive raise. Without him, you're just a informative, entertaining, humorous, non biased version of savagegeese.
Savagegeese usually has 2 takes, objective and biased; a clear distinction is made between them.
And the camera crew too they are getting all the right angles big props to them
I personally find savagegeese sedate and lifeless. Throttle House is always a fun time
@vTENKENv throttle house is definitely more fun. But lifeless? Really? You could say their editing is more monotone but most certainly not personality wise.
I know you guys have tracked the veloster n, but are there any plans on putting this on the track at some point to see how well Hyundai has done and how well it competes with its 4-door competition from Honda?
They will, check Thomas's Instagram.
it's pretty fast, on a smaller and slower track of, it's as fast as a M2 Coupe and .5 slower than the A45S. mind that it was a small and slow track of, where HP is less relevant and the lsd and chassis one Elantra is extremely important

James is actually pronouncing it correct. I worked at a Hyundai dealership about 10 years ago and the dealership's Korean overlords told them it was pronounced "Hyundai like Sunday".
Every 4 lb you remove from the rotating assembly, brakes, tires and wheels etc, is the same as removing 200 lb from the vehicle. Pretty smart place to lose the weight, actually. Mind you Hyundai is pretty smart
I debated between this and the Kona N. Having a family and traveling, the rear seating folding as 1 was a deal breaker. The Kona checked all the boxes. Plus, I get an actual front bumper. 😝
I would go Kona N and deal with the higher ride height. But I can't deal with the lack of a third pedal.
