@@frankli4124 This. The color subpixels may not experience burn in, but the underlying backlight surely will. Traditional backlight doesn't seem to suffer from this but only because all LEDs lose brightness uniformly.
mini-LED: ☀️ Higher contrast ratio 🔆 Higher brightness 🌑 Deeper blacks 🔋 Power-efficient 💣 Less prone to burn-in than OLED 🛡️ Uses inorganic Gallium nitride (GaN), won’t degrade over time like OLED
Not higher contrast ratio than OLED, not deeper blacks than OLED, not more power efficient than OLED. I thought Burn-in and degradation for a tablet would be a thing for sure, but my Tab S2 is about 4 years old and has neither even with constant heavy use. I'd like some of that crazy LED brightness though.
The fact that they named it "Mini-LED" is that there is a "Micro-LED" version coming out soon in the future with lot more leds for a much more better display.
2.5k dimming zones still has blooming.. could have been 5.5million zones if it was an oled since its pixel level..... oled still has benifits such as instant response time and slightly better viewing angles then ips... also even with the local dimming and dual lcd layer (monochrome), its still an ips panel so the poor native contrast ratio will show up in certain instances...
Except MiniLED has better viewing angles than OLED. OLED loses a lot of brightness and even color when shifted. MiniLED pretty much stays the same on the iPad. And the biggest point is that the iPad Pro is often used for drawing and designing where accurate colors are necessary. The problem with OLED is tho that it needs to be recalibrated every other year or even after just a few months. On a phone that's not an issue. On a drawing machine? It is.
I swear, I hate the edges being dark like that! If I am going to pay this much money for a screen, I don't want to have anything to hang up on...and here we are!
Someone mentioned that the viewing angle on this XDR display is worse than the liquid retina display? And when M1 is under heavy load, the heat causes streaks of uneven brightness to appear on display or backlight.
The control circuitry to control 10K LED's separately would be a lot more difficult / expensive to implement. They would have to have a much more complex backlight controller, way more traces going to the backlight array etc. Probably would have doubled the already higher cost of the screen.
Seems to be an excellent screen, especially on bright viewing condition, though pinpoint backlight accuracy of OLED screens may provide a better dark room experience. Hopefully, MicroLED technology in the near future will fuse those benefits.
The topic is really interesting, but why do you play that background music (so loud). Don't you think that your message is good enough so that you need to overdub it?
No, that's one of the reasons it has a bigger battery. Mainly with HDR content the screen puts out much more light. And that takes more power. You potentially get some power savings IF you have the brightness down very far, and have mainly black on the screen, but in reality this will be weighed out by the overall higher brightness with watching video's or doing other things that keeps the brightness up. Local diming doesnt turn the LED's off completely on a black screen, only dims them. If they turned them off entirely it would make blooming even worse. People seem to be confusing the benefits of mini LED with OLED or Micro LED.
I really freaking hope that universal audio or apogee make a thunderbolt interface dock for this that turns it into a high end all in one audio interface and surface control console with faders and knobs. It would look so sick on my desk.
I want know is the lcd screen or mini led backlight software locked to the device so that only apple is able to replace a broken screen or backlight? For whatever they feel like charging? What's the point of a repairability score otherwise?
Cool video. I assume MiniLED backlight doesn't require a light guide plate that is used in side-lit backlight. But what about the prism sheet, does it have one?
Man what about the ipad air2020? Is there a teardown for that? Also i wish apple would do this teardowns themselves. Seeing the bones of the machine is great way to showcase tech advancement.
I always think why videos like this don't get a million likes but videos from so called 'tech gurus' who simply read out the spec sheet manage to. A twisted world indeed !!
there is a clear "light spreader" that the leds shine into, tuned to eject more light on the far edges and less on the closer edges to balance the fadeout of the leds over distance. Its like a fiber optic rolled out into a sheet with micro holes in it
The edge shadows, probably not, it is caused by the space between the screen and the backlight layer, and the diffusion layers in between. The blooming, could most likely be fixed though.
This is not mini LED display, but backlight. There is mini LED actual displays, like OLED. This naming is just confusing to the public, kinda LCD and LED tvs. All are LCD based.
they could have simply used AMOLED screen. This got it more complicated than already it's. Why Apple doesn't like led screens? is it too expensive even for Apple products?
It's pretty interesting that Apple uses thermal paste for I think the first time in an iPad (or iPhone) ever. They never used any of this stuff in these devices.
What are the benefits over an oled screen, if I understand correctly in an oled screen each pixels color channel has a dedicated led so having even better dimming without ruining the complete display if just one led breaks because the error is so small.
Omg that part where the screen is transparent is so satisfying to me
