    Episode 10
Blaster Master combines two great gameplay styles into one amazing game! Today we know that Blaster Master is a classic, but back in 1988 it almost wasn't released!
In this video we'll look at:
*How Blaster Master made it to North America, and the major changes developer Sunsoft made in localizing it
*How to find EVERY item, and get through EVERY Area!
*Secrets to defeating ALL of the bosses with OR WITHOUT using glitches!
*How to strafe, a secret technique not revealed in the game's instruction manual!
*A secret way to SKIP AN ENTIRE AREA, and MORE!
    Thanks for watching!

This is one of those games that was truly harmed by its lack of a password or battery saves. I just couldn't force myself to sit long enough to finish it, even to this day.

I remember making it to the Plutonium boss and defeating it on my last man with no more continues. I was so freaking happy thinking I had beaten the game. I freaked out when the Underworld boss appeared. I barely had any health left. I frantically raced around the room trying to avoid his whip. He moved so fast that I only lasted a minute. That was one of the biggest FUs I experienced in a game. Never picked up the game again.

    • @davidschwab5045
      @davidschwab5045 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've read that, originally, the Underworld Lord had its own stage after stage 8. The tank upgrade you got after beating the Plutonium Boss would let you drive on spikes, so there was an additional area with spikes you could then get to and go to Level 9. You can see the boss chamber itself changes between the fights.
There's actually a sprite for the Spike upgrade in the game, but I don't think it works.

I think that aspect of the game was the most alluring thing to me as a kid. Heck, I spent MONTHS exploring just the first 3 levels, combing every nook and cranny before eventually getting to the entrance to level 4. Perhaps it was because it took such time and effort that I'd feel such a sense of accomplishment when a new secret/passage was uncovered. Not unlike the first Zelda game.

Always remember the wave gun that was better than base gun but couldn't go through walls or anything really - forcing you to either maneuver for a better shot, frantically search for another gun upgrade drop, or take damage. While that's commonly known now, it absolutely sucked after renting the game and only having so long before it had to go back.

I remember how disappointed I was as a kid when my mom bought me this game. It was a title I never heard of. I didn't even find it that fun when I first played it. I think it was because I was getting really getting into RPGs. After I finished most of the games I had, I decided to give it another chance. Boy was I wrong! I was glad I saved the best for last. My fondest memories of games that I played was this, Metroid and Clash at Demonhead. I made it to level 8, but never managed to finish the game. Really happy to see it made it 22nd on NES best games. Well deserved. I've since watched a full walk through on TH-cam, but I'll happily watch it again. One of my favorite games with one of my favorite youtuber. Can't be that, let's go! One of my favorite games of all time. I started playing it in the early 90's, my brother teaching me about the grenade glitch.
It's funny what was changed to become Master Blaster from its original Japanese counterpart. It was a completely different story and they never updated the sprite for the main character at the end scene to be Jason for the NES release, which is why his hair is blue, and they just swapped out the other character for Fred. Not many games have that kind of situation and I'm glad this game was such a hit. It was such a vital part of my childhood. I still need to play the PS4 reboot.

I'm no pro gamer, so any boss I could use the pause/kill trick, I did. I can't believe how easy the final boss was. All you need to do is get to him with full guns and you almost can't lose... and the room right before him all but gives it to you. I really think this game is special. as a kid of the 80s, we never had the nes, but i wanted one, we had the dang 5200. i got more into video games as an adult than i did as a kid, but i always wanted to check out some of these olde nes games. your format is perfect, not short form, not full of silliness, and loads of tips and tricks we could use to get into these games.
i always felt dumb playing these games as there were all these strange secrets that only someone with ocd would find back in the day, or some one with a subscription to nintindo power lol. you have given me enough info i think i can go back and play some of these old games.

This is a really great guide, thank you for all the work you put into it! I especially appreciate how you elaborate on the little tricks like pressing select to exit the vehicle and down to enter the doorways. Back in the day I wasn't able to complete many NES titles simply because there was little to no explanation of controls, win conditions or even what to do with many of the items you receive. And that's not even mentioning where to go next or what to do when you get there (Take the infamous Castlevania II tornado/dead end for example). I'm sure your guides will help many players finally complete NES games of their youth.
You are doing a great service to the retro gaming community, keep it up!

@@UCanBeatVideoGames , there is also a third and fourth story to the game. The story in the Game Boy Color version of the game, which is called Blaster Master: Enemy Below, aside from some boss and enemy area changes, the story was the same. In the PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 versions of the game, there was some sort of story that everything was being infected by viruses that turned them into mutated nightmares. However, in Blaster Master Zero, they combined all of the stories into essentially one main story, plus added things from Blaster Master 2, Blaster Master: Blasting Again, and lots of all new content in the Blaster Master Zero Trilogy as well. The ultimate ending in the Blaster Master Zero Trilogy, namely, the dual endings in Blaster Master Zero 3, are sad, regardless of which one you choose.

I remember before I could make it all the way to the ending, I mistakenly thought the first giant frog boss you had to fight and kill (area 4?) was your own pet frog, having already been driven mad by the radiation. It always bummed me out.
