In the G1 cartoon I always thought somehow Grimlock would challenge Prime for the Autobot leadership but after War Of The Dinobots, things remained calm but Grimlock and the Dinobots always acted a bit rebels after...
@@tonystark8201 It has to do with the idea that Dinobots only respect people who are strong warriors and the way to prove you are worthy of leading is to fight and win against them. If you lose you are not worthy to boss them around as they see themselves as having soveriegnty over their own tribe. If you are smaller and weaker than them you have no right to lead them. However this changes if you rescue them from danger as Optimus Prime did in the cartoon. But Dinobots are adamant that since they are the strongest autobots that they are King and that any order given is merely them agreeing to be allied to the autobots and not a command but a request. If they say no, then you are going to have to accept that. And it's a clever idea because it shows they don't want people telling them what to do if they can lead themselves. They represent people who just want to be free. No man should be able to demand from another man a service without their consent unless they agree to it by contract. And the Dinobots are representative of people who guard their own freedom to rule themselves by demonstration of might. You can't argue with that as history has shown that the strongest people end up conquering and ruling over the weak and the weak benefit from their protection. In the american Marvel comics Grimlock takes over and some of the autobots do not trust Grimlock to be a good leader and just like a king he wants to execute those who are not loyal to him. It is a lot more serious than the cartoon one. But you got to understand that comics and novels can get away with more than tv shows aimed at children. Violent messages that are broadcast to wide audience are naturally going to get more attention from the parents groups that feel that it's too much for a saturday morning cartoon. This has always been the case for many other properties not just Transformers. It was the 1980s and censorship was big back then. (even in the 1990s when Dragon Ball Z anime was localised to western tv they censored out a lot of blood for the kiddies)
These cool weird 80's music scenes gave that "only in G1 Season 3" vibe. 6:43. Rodimus and Ultra Magnus walking down a hall with that eerie feeling some issue was about to arise. Then as if that were almost a certainty Rodimus has his knees give out and can't control his transformation. Also, 11:34 with the Deceptions flying together in their ship heading back to Unicron gets me very nostalgic about Transformers The Movie. The handful of Unicron appearances in Season 3 felt big to me back as a kid watching it. The best part about both was that nothing significant in the plot was necessarily happening but seeing more of the underground tunnels of Cybertron and the inside Unicron were just cool in general.
13:48 did the anti-electrons affect the matrix as well? Cuz Rodimus completely reverts to Hot Rod for a couple shots, voice higher, age lines on his face are gone and gets his old transformation.
I kind of appreciate the second generation a little more these days as an adult. When I was little though I gave up on the cartoon after the movie! They really pulled a game of thrones in that mug

They were always 'Syndicated' programs, 'not' Saturday morning cartoons.
@@grantorino2325 Not that I recall. I do recall that all of these programs were just really bad "American 30 minute Toy Commercial Knock offs". That's why there were 'rules' prohibiting the actual toy Iine's 'commercials' COULDN'T be aired during the program. I.E., Commercials for G.I. @@tsm688 well. Just symbolically, pal. Beside. Being able to make a group of powerful & above average intelligent Autobots (i had some look at their profile. Their firepower is very formidable) from parts of a gigiantic lifeform within minutes. That's insanely awesome
He lost his whole "Viking berserker warrior" spirit that we got from his debut episodes. After the constructicons the dinobots became less and less relevent as "potential overthrowers of the autobot leadership" due to their significantly higher strength than the regular car robots. (because something even bigger and more powerful than them exists: Devastator) Basically they were modified in secret. Possibly wheeljack snuck in to the chambers they lock them in and made them more easy to control. That's my opinion. So now they are like pets more than strong willed warrior badasses that think for themselves and value individual choice and independence from the autobots. (as was their original character design - think of it like how america became independent from britain and doesn't want to bow down to monarchs) The grimlock post movie is a different character. He is like Hulk if Hulk was just a dog that its owner has around for companionship. Real Grimlock to me is a king that demands his title as king because he fights for that title by having his subordinates prove that they can beat him in a fight one on one. If you can actually beat grimlock in a test of might then you become the king, and that is how you ensure the tribe is kept strong by not having weaklings tell the other warriors what to do and mislead them. Very similar to mandalorian warrior culture in star wars or the Orcs in Elder Scrolls. "Beat me up and win in a fight with me to prove you are the stronger leader, and then you get to lead and win my crown"

@@UToobUsername01 Does he talk like a brutish dummy in the comics, too?
We ignoring the fact Grimlock called Preceptor stupid? Feel that’s an oversight not discussed enough.
Grimlock sure did talk a lot of smack to Preceptor in this episode
2:16 you can blame that one on whelljack
Every other autobot stayed in robot mode most of the time. Dinobots, rarely left dinosaur mode
In season 2 it's mentioned that they're vulrenable in robot mode which is why I believe that they stay in dino mode.
They didn't transform into robot mode after the movie came out, for some odd reason.
@@rosalindshays5679 Weird but true. My memory of season 3 is kinda vague but only remember seeing Grimlock in robot mode in one episode.
If you could be a giant robot dinosaur, would you not chose to be a giant robot dinosaur as much as possible?
8:04 at this moment Grimlock's voice just suddenly becomes wise for the rest of the episode!
That's the one thing I like about the TechnoBots they're the only Autobot combiner team whose team leader is a Triple Changer.
Birth of the Techo-Bots!!
Sweetness!
"Are you my father?" I will hug him and pet him and I will name him George!
@@Robizoid 😂😅
Only problem with this episode is them did not include Swoop, The Dinobot should always be 5 not 4.
They lost his rights when a writer left.
@@stuartmcclurey9926 No, he appeared in "Call of the Primitives".
They also didn't include Snarl in the movie. Odd how often Dinobots randomly disappeared like that.
@@rosalindshays5679 actually, Snarl appeared on Autobot city, when they learned about Unicron.
@@stuartmcclurey9926 oh damn I didn’t know that
13:48 did the anti-electrons affect the matrix as well? Cuz Rodimus completely reverts to Hot Rod for a couple shots, voice higher, age lines on his face are gone and gets his old transformation.
yep, it's in the script. someone called it animation error but apparently its in the script
yes the color also change maroon to magenta. nice catch! I never notice that
I saw that too
Bert Kramer's performance was astonishing. His voice was absolutely perfect for Computron.
19:07 Grinlocks birthday present to Conputron.
Not a half-bad one, in my opinion.
"Guide?. No need guide, have Grimlock"
"Dont remind me"
*ROTFLMAO*
I kind of appreciate the second generation a little more these days as an adult. When I was little though I gave up on the cartoon after the movie! They really pulled a game of thrones in that mug
Also kudos for Hasbro Pulse not making this video "just for kids".
See? COPPA! Even Hasbro respects grown fans.
Which one is COPPA, again?
6:10 Grimlock That's not a toy!
Playing as Grimlock in the games is awesome wish he had more levels to play more as.
Which ones, the Cybertron games, or Devastation?
If only wheeljack could have seen grimlock now. R.I.P Wheeljack 😢
😢
It was great to have optimus back but it's sucks that some of the more cooler characters were killed off as well
Maybe Spike should have LIED to Wheeljack. Maybe he should've told him dinosaurs were intelligent.
The rarest substance in the universe, kept in a glass bubble with a simple cork in the bottom.
I freaking love smart Grimlock
8:40 Oh no! It's the pencil sharpener of doom!
14:40 So, Grimlock is now the creator of a new Autobot, " *Nose Cone* ".
Le _Vector Sigma_ : "pikachu face"
(Galvatron)”What who are you?!”(20:01)
(Computron)”Name Computron Primary goal Obliterate Decepticons!!!”(20:04)
I am literally obsessed with computron. Would love a new main line version of him some day.
Grimlock: I say you smart now
Computron’s my favorite combiner, he’s so underrated.
Amongst one of the most entertaining episodes that season 💯
Why even bring Grimlock along on a mission this delicate? I know there's a story to tell here, but C'mon!
Grimlock: "Gee Megatron. What you want to do tonight?"
BW Megatron: "The same thing we do every night. Try and take over the world! Yesss."

14:36 with tiny hand dinosaur grimlock can built technobots really fast, not in robot mode 👍
so inspirational
Yea, never got why they seemingly forgot he had a robot mode in this. Logically it would have made far more sense for him to spend most of the time in robot mode and could have been used to highlight the differences between his regular dinobot mode and this super intelligent version.
Now what if Grimlock used that new brain to convert himself and his fellow Dinobots into combiners?
Beast?
@@obitwokenobi9808 more like volcanicas from power of the primes
In grimlock tone, “If we dinobots combine into volcanicus, we got some serious havoc on devastator!”
7:30 "Me Grimlock to tuen-off the machine right now" that was the turning point of him to become Intelligent and mannered (7:55).
14:00, that view of Unicron's face really creeps me out.
Wow, this was one of the first episodes my aunt ever showed me of Transformers.
Joseph, I am also an aunt too. My nephews like Transformers episodes too.
8:27 Smart and suddenly abusive lol.
5:54 to those who can't figure out what that blip is from its whenever Kirk or the others open their Communication Phones or receive a call. seems like Hasbro is using all the culture sound bits from lightsaber activation sounds to things from Star Trek lol.
7:00 I'm I the only one questioning how his second half just appears from behind out of nowhere and then just leaves.
Scourge and Cyclonus argue with Galvatron’s un fairly together out schemes, a once again strong reminder of Thundercracker (Scourge’s previous incarnation before his reformat) and Skywarp arguing with Starscream.
This is one of my favorite episodes!!!!
As far as I can recall, when "The Transformers", "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero", & "Jem", were on WGN-TV Channel 9, in Chicago, those programs were broadcast, in the afternoons, Monday through Friday, from 3:00pm until 5:00pm. They were always 'Syndicated' programs, 'not' Saturday morning cartoons.
Wasn't "Jem" a segment of *Super Saturday* (along with "Bigfoot" and "Robotix")?
@@grantorino2325 Not that I recall. I do recall that all of these programs were just really bad "American 30 minute Toy Commercial Knock offs".
That's why there were 'rules' prohibiting the actual toy Iine's 'commercials' COULDN'T be aired during the program. I.E., Commercials for G.I. Joe toys, couldn't be seen in the commercial breaks of the G.I. Joe cartoons. They simply aired Commercials for 'Jem' toys, or Transformers toys, instead.
Grimlock may be short on brains, but sometimes that’s a good thing. Sometimes it takes simple thinking in situations where people try to overthink it. Call of the primitives is the perfect example of that.
Can we have a Transformers What If episode where Grimlock found a way to remain smart? Maybe he could've found a way to make the other dinos smart and combine into Volcanicus or whatever it was from the Power of the Primes series.
I agree we should have a Volcanicus vs Devastator
@@gandalflotr2898
But the dinobots are like half the size of Devastator (when the show scales them that way at least)
That dude would be fucking big
You might like the Cyberverse cartoon then.
@@johnnygyro2295 I did see that. It was awesome. I wish they found a way to do that back in the G1 Timestream.
Such deep character development as this is what makes G1 the series that tops all that followed over the last forty years.

One has to wonder whose idea it was for Grimlock, of all ‘bots, to operate the energy reactor.

The intro didn't start getting better until season 3 I love this cartoon i just wish it would have lasted 3 more seasons

headmasters vs targetmasters is season 4. Scorponok was my biggest toy.
"Me Grimlock say you smart now."
Sighs don't you just love metal Barney?
08:52 fun fact I used Kup's "suffering softwood" sarcastic reference and no one got the hint of where it came from.
Amazing no one questions how smart Grimlok got all of a sudden.
Since this episode is set in 2006 and the Technobots were born in this episode, that means they would be 17 years old now.
18:17 Little mistake. That's the handgun of Lightspeed and. And not the guns that that Lightspeed uses in his vehiclemode.
In some aspects, I think we could all relate to Grimlock here. Mainly how the other autobots look down on the dinobots intelligent wise
Kinda sad when the creator of the technobots who viewed them as an equal sacrificed 'himself' for them and his friends leaving them with grimlock but not the grimlock that built them
@ 11:28 - "Perhaps because your mental abilities are so limited." I'm gonna use that at work...
Grimlock became MCU's Tony Starks.
Tony built MK1 from scrap metals & missile parts.
Grimlock built the ENTIRE TEAM of functional & sentient Autobot known as Technobots from Unicron's components.
it's not inconceivable unicron kept some useful stuff ready to go. he did make galvatron and his army out of something.
@@tsm688 well. Just symbolically, pal.
Beside. Being able to make a group of powerful & above average intelligent Autobots (i had some look at their profile. Their firepower is very formidable) from parts of a gigiantic lifeform within minutes. That's insanely awesome
When grimlock pulled the right switch. It's the same sound the DeLorean time machine makes when you turn on its time circuts
They ruined the Dinobots with the 86 Movie onwards. They used to be so ruthless and intimidating. That's how I'll always remember them.
Yeah, they were, more often than not, relegated to comic relief.
17:57 this moment shows how good the Technobots are in battle
