Yeah, Slingshot was REALLY enraged at Megatron as he actually admired him and the Decepticons only to learn how brutal they truly were. Having emotional ties with Orion Pax and his friends of course is what led to him and the other Aerialbots fully committing themselves to the Autobot cause.
Agreed. I would also add that he did an excellent job of putting sadness and anger in Slingshot's voice when he and Silverbolt are carrying the deactivated body of Orion hoping to have him repaired and brought back to life.
The looks on the faces of the Aerialbots when they saw that Orion Pax the young Autobot they became friends with would be destined to become Optimus Prime and that they had a hand in it by bringing him to the same Bot that helped build them a much younger Alpha Trion.
@@RemixOfTheVoidMan you can consider it ironic that Optimus and the others had a hand in building the AerialBots and Megatron sends them into the past where they end up on Cybertron during it's golden age and meet an innocent dock worker bot named Orion Pax who after had a near fatal encounter with Megatron causing the AerialBots to save him and his girlfriend Ariel and his best friend Dio to be brought to a young Alpha Trion to be rebuilt into Elita 1,possibly either Ultra Magnus or IronHide and Cybertron's greatest hero Optimus Prime so what Megatron did by creating that time machine of his as I mentioned in a previous comment nearly created a temporal paradox by sending the AerialBots into the past to fulfill they're destiny.
@nicholasmorsovillo2752 Beast Wars made it crazier, cause the Aerialbots couldn't have existed if the other bots had been wiped out in the past, and if they didn't exist, neither would Optimus Prime.

Hands down, one of my favorite episodes. It has great character development and growth for the Aerialbots and it explores the history of the franchise (which always left me wanting for more about the history of Cybertron...but was barely explored, unfortunately). People may scoff at shows produced to be "episodic commercials" in order to sell toys, but when some of these writers come up with episodes like this, that are better than modern-day cartoons' shows as a whole, well, one may understand the nostalgia old fans, like me, feel for this show as opposed to the stuff that comes out nowadays.
The,Transformers in my opinion was,way a head of its time. The ability of a robot to transform , the great voices of prime and star scream, great scripts .The only thing that came close to it in my opinion was He Man. A more complex series ,maybe the best ever created was the Xmen of the 90s.
You're well within your right to be nostalgic for the 80's cartoons, but it's very clear you haven't been paying attention to the quality that modern cartoons are putting out. Character driven, continuous narratives are by far the most popular form of children's cartoons right now that regularly tackles backstory, world building, and character exploration.
@@Diaboragon It depends on what cartoons you are speaking about. Some modern toons are pretty entertaining, others are garbage. But let's not get mixed up between cartoons for adults and toons for kids (if that is what you are speaking about. As a kid, the 80's toons were of great quality, most toons for kids these days are simply mindless drivel.
@@roadkillz78 No, we are absolutely not mixing up cartoons for adults and kids. Shows like Owl House, Infinity Train, Amphibia, Adventure Time and Gravity Falls are all for kids, they just have storytelling that can entertain adults as well. Just because you want to divide them up to prove some point doesn't make them any less dedicated towards children. I'm sorry you're so threatened by the idea of today's kids having equally quality entertainment as you did, but actually just get over it.
Hands down one of the best G1 episodes. What made it great for me was not just the origin story of Optimus Prime but the fact that apart from the Aerialbots and Omega Supreme all the characters in the present (1985) were the original characters from the pilot. It almost felt like an early Season 1 episode late into Season 2. And the fact that it took place on Cybertron made it all that more awesome. The only regrettable aspect is that John Stephenson did not voice Thundercracker for that one short line he had. Especially since we hardly have any dailogue at all from Thundercracker in later episodes.
I've seen this ep countless times and I only just noticed that about Thundercracker for the first time..l had just watched the scene before l read your comment and wondered if it was a different voice actor or if he just delivered that line differently for some reason.
What shocked me was that in season three prime, Ironhide, ratchet and wheeljack would be dead so.wpuld screamer Megatron, thindercracker and skywarp would be remodeled into you know who
By that logic, as much as Megatron laughed in general in G1 and as crazier he became as Galvatron and purple to boot, that makes him the robot version of the Joker
Out of all the Combiner Teams, the Aerialbots always came across as having the most focus and development for me. You can see a distinct dynamic between them here and in their debut eps.
Aerialbots took a complete 180 from loving the 'Cons strength to outright hating their very existence by the end of it for their atrocities, and their hatred is amplified as Superion. I APPROVE!!!
I actually think Megatron miscalculated here. Had he feigned being nice with the Aerialbots, sent Starscream's jets to play mentor to them, he could have easily recruited them into the Decepticons. Instead, by tricking and betraying them, he cemented their determination to be Autobots.
@@jeanettewu2537 Yep, but that is Megatron. He wanted control, and got desperate. Actually the Autobots stopped the crono device in time for the the Aerials to be put in the right time and right place to see who their enemy really is.
@@jeanettewu2537 Yeah plus Megatron could easily have told the Aerialbots about the bad things the Autobots did to the Decepticons in the past which drove them to rise against him. Many fans speculate that the Autobots constantly mistreated the Decepticons during the Golden Age of Cybertron and treated them like 2nd class citizens and I tend to believe that. While it doesn't excuse the extreme actions of the Decepticons, it would explain why they waged war on the Autobots. If Megatron had told the Aerialbots these things combined with the other things you mentioned, he could've gotten them to become Decepticons as with the exception of Silverbolt were doubtful that the war was entirely their fault. As for Megatron's actions against Orion Pax and his friends, Megatron could've been driven by hatred for the Autobots and their mistreatment of his people along with keeping them from their rightful place as leaders of a Cybertronian Empire and saw all Autobots as scum. Of course, the Aerialbots had emotional ties to Orion Pax and his friends and since they hadn't done anything bad to the Decepticons, they were rightfully enraged at Megatron and ended up being determined to stop him no matter what.
@@MrCat-zz5eoactually the background of the cybertron is more complicated it all began when prima prime one of the first primes lowered the energon resources of the planet in order to ensure that the big population of the wild life of the planet to get lower and ever since generations had for a while resources but they were getting lowered so they had to extract energon and some other cities of cybertron were struggling to have energon Iacon was the only city that had certain energon resources and the high council was greedy enough to share with other citizens especially the senators who exploited the rest population of cybertron to extract energon and then megatron exploited the needs of the population in order to get power to rule cybertron
Funny rob Paulsen doesn't remember doing transformers guy had a busy schedule guess he looked at it as a job and taking whatever gig he could at the time but I think.transforners was one of the first things he's done if im.not mistaken
And throw the Aerialbots back in time. He could have gone back to do any number of things yet his present existence is most important. Though as we see in this episode going back in time to change the course of history would not have done so since any time travel is already part of history.
Makes you wonder why Megatron didn't build another time machine? Unless the time machine he acquired is not his, and it is a 'lost technology' in which Megatron found it.
At 16:43, the Arialbots jaw dropped expressions must have been the same for Transformers fans when this first aired on television. It was my expression the first time I saw this episode in 2007.
The sequence of the Aerialbots returning from the past, with the music and the high stakes, has been my favourite part of the series since I was a kid.
Optimus told vector sigma. "Let them think for themselves. To grow in knowledge and wisdom. And let them always value freedom and life where ever they find it" That's the core of who each was, so it was hard for them believe that the Decepticons are nothing like that. Not until they experienced it for themselves
This is one of the best episodes of Transformers i've seen. The story is truly magnificent. Seeing Orion Pax, Arielle and Dion is a treat before they became the characters we know and love.
Having a cartoon that went back to the past shows how this show was Superb. Transformers generation one and Xmen where the best in my opinion. This episode and the Origin of OMEGA Supreme.
This episose was a great lesson for any Transformers fan out there. This episode teaches us that Optimus wasn't always the great leader he is today. He was also once young, naive, & careless, before growing into the great powerful leader he is today.
Transformers One brought me here. I actually forgot about Orion Pax and Ariel / Elita-One. It turns out that the female pink robot in the movie is NOT Arcee. I only remembered that Alpha Trion was the father/creator of Optimus Prime.
I thought Elita-1 was Arcee during almost the entire time I was watching the movie until I actually saw her in the crowd towards the end. I never watched this show until after watching Transformers One so I actually never knew who Elita-1 was until now and when I saw Ariel in short clips back in the day I always confused her for Arcee then too
You see some of the female Autobots from "Search For Alpha Trion" when Orion Pax return to the mine to convince the miners to join him, Moonracer and Chromia are in the crowd. Arcee has a speaking part she's the one who say's "we can't fight we don't have cogs" Though Arcee is a third season addition and was not in season 2 of G1
So in this way, Megatron's scheme to get rid of the 5+1 Autobot planes end up as the reason why Orion Pax became Optimus. (Ignoring the time travel paradox, at least)
My friends and I loved watching the Transformers: War Dawn because we learned how to choose our friends wisely. This is one of many of the original version stories of the Transformers that I still love to watch.📺📺📺📺📺🍿🍿🍿💕💕
It's kind of funny how Orion was like "don't care, the war isn't my problem" until him being a naive fool nearly gets him killed and the war IS his problem. 😂
*Starscream seemingly recruits aerial bots* Megatron: _"Those naive fools are walking into my trap."_ Me: _"Um, so you wouldn't want to try to you know, recruit them."_ Megatron: _"Quiet you...."_
Orion was actually very pretty. In later canon iterations showing Optimus without a faceplate he’s either badly scarred, sort of odd looking, or visibly aged. Also creators have had a hard time processing the thought of a young Megatron, as if he was always old (that could technically happen if he was constructed from recycled or stolen old parts though)
@@chrisedwards3214 a young Megatron would of been crazy,I'd imagine he'd like to blow things up.he hung with shockwave who had a face before until it was blown up by some autobot general.starskream thunder cracker and rumble would be around him as well. The culprit who blew up soundwaves face worked for obsidian and striker. The team got modified into their current look by the fallen along with the ancient cunstructicon group. This would put things into perspective and along with the gladiatorial combat and loses of Conrad's would be the build for Megatron's rage.
If Megatron had been *really* clever, he would've sent them back without Silverbolt. Bolt was the only voice of reason in the the Aerialbots' first ep, and he was the only reason they were in the right place at the right time here. If not, they probably would have been stuck up long enough to be more trouble than they were worth, or worse, just like Meganut wanted. Decepticons always mess up their own plans.
Yeah but its a kiddie cartoon so they have to have the Decepticons mess up their own plans. In reality, they would've sought to convert the Aerialbots to the Decepticon cause and likely succeeded with the exception of Silverbolt of course who was pro-Autobot from the very start. Of course, Slingshot and the other Aerialbots were only iffy because the Humans at a military base fired on them thinking that the Autobots attacked them earlier when it was in fact the Stunticons. It never occurred to those idiot Humans that the Decepticons could've gotten reinforcements from Cybertron so the Humans too were idiots at times who messed things up.
Eventually, yes. All I was saying was that they would not have been witness to the Massacre at the Energon Storage Facility. The other Autobots might not have had as easy a time getting them back, even with the supposed Recall function, depending how it works. Only true Decepticons--inherent or reprogrammed--or certain Autobot criminals were susceptible to the power madness of their inferred allegiance. (This except for the Decepticons who really were just in it because they were true "followers," i.e. Soundwave.) The Aerialbots would have surely switched sides or more likely high tailed it to a more active part of the Galaxy / universe--think Season 3 rather than Season 2--where they didn't have to deal with the monotony of a war that shouldn't be their problem.
To be fair with Megatron, the aerialbots were pretty new warriors, practically fresh meat that just happened to be elite from the get go. It's easy to assume he just simply hasn't have the time to fully know his new enemies yet.
It is practically one of the best episodes - with many errors about continuity of time/events in the warehouse but an excellent episode about the history of old cybertron
@@HerohammerStudios About 2, Elita is inside of the warehouse but appears twice out of the warehouse running with the Aerialbots, all of them running together to the warehouse. Well actually they didn't die orion turned into prime and the girl eleta 1 true Didn’t say about dion but sounds like he wasn't dead so probably rebuilt to possibly into ultra magnus but that's fan theory 🤔
I think if I had to give my favorite all time G1 episode, it would be this one. A pretty good origin story for Optimus Prime. Does anyone here subscribe to the theory that Dion, Orion Pax’s buddy here, would be rebuilt into Ultra Magnus?
I wasn't expecting Aplha Trion to have such a young and not deep sounding voice. I know he sounds older later but its not like the cybertronians ever visually age
This episode made the Aerialbots feel more connected and important to the history of transformers than any other combiner group, the fact that they made Optimus who he is, blows my mind i love this episode.
Furthermore in S3 "Forever is a long time coming" when Superion saves A3 from the Quints. Making the robot revolt posible. And bringing it full circle, saving the one whom in the future would give his life to create them. Very important, indeed.
This is the beginning of the THIRD Great War NOT the war itself. The FIRST Great War was the rebellion against the Quintessons. The SECOND Great War was Autobots vs Decepticons where they developed transformations🤓
@@great159 Thanks for clearing that up. I thought that the Cybertronian Wars were always Autobot vs Decepticon with different Primes and Leaders of both sides clashing.

“I was wrong my friends, I admired Megatron because he was powerful, I failed to see how he will use that power.” - Optimus Prime that is probably my favorite quote of Optimus he sees that despite Megatron being powerful he still used his own power for himself and his own gain something Orion or Optimus would never do.
At some point during the reruns of season 3, this episode aired in our local market. And until that point I, like many other kids, were in the mindset of "newer = better." Then after a run of episodes with Rodimus and season 3 characters, including Dark Awakening (with the original ending), this show aired, and made me realize how much I missed the first two seasons, to where I couldn't stand season 3 at all. I then set out to get all of those episodes I could find (glad to have the box set now), but It all started with this episode.
@@domingorubies656, I agree. It took time watching the Season 3 episodes for me to appreciate the Season 3 autobots. However, Season 1 - 2 autobots were better.

The part of the opening sequence wherein Optimus and Megatron are fighting as the weird digital-grid floor consumes them both as if a black hole, has a whole new meaning ever since I saw how Fall of Cybertron ended.
Totally right.. man have you seen inhumanoids now thats a trip

I actually think Megatron miscalculated here. Had he feigned being nice with the Aerialbots, sent Starscream's jets to play mentor to them, he could have easily recruited them into the Decepticons. Instead, by tricking and betraying them, he cemented their determination to be Autobots.

@@jeanettewu2537 Megatron had enough seekers and jets already and he had plenty more on Cybertron what did ne need the aerialbots for
@@jeanettewu2537 Yeah plus Megatron could easily have told the Aerialbots about the bad things the Autobots did to the Decepticons in the past which drove them to rise against him.
Whoever designed the characters in TF ONE definitely referred to this when designing Orion's face. The contours on their faces match
In concept art, its even more obvious that they were trying to emulate G1 Orion Pax

This episose was a great lesson for any Transformers fan out there. This episode teaches us that Optimus wasn't always the great leader he is today. He was also once young, naive, & careless, before growing into the great powerful leader he is today.

Another important one was the history of OMEGA Supreme.
Arcee has a speaking part she's the one who say's "we can't fight we don't have cogs"
Though Arcee is a third season addition and was not in season 2 of G1
Boy, the new movie sure upped the damage Orion's shoulder wound did, eh?
Megatron: *kills Orion Pax*
Optimus Prime: I lived, bıtch.
Wow.. I just noticed: Neither Rob Paulsen nor Samantha Newark got a voice credit for this episode. They definitely deserve it!
They started late in season 2. Also Charlie Adler, Laurie Faso, and others didn't get the voice credit either.
So in this way, Megatron's scheme to get rid of the 5+1 Autobot planes end up as the reason why Orion Pax became Optimus. (Ignoring the time travel paradox, at least)
Pushes Megatron into 'Good Job Fixing It, Villain' territory.
I love how the Golden Age is actually Gold lol.

Even if he did, the others would've seen how war hungry Megatron of the past was and would've changed.
Soundwave.)
The Aerialbots would have surely switched sides or more likely high tailed it to a more active part of the Galaxy / universe--think Season 3 rather than Season 2--where they didn't have to deal with the monotony of a war that shouldn't be their problem.
To be fair with Megatron, the aerialbots were pretty new warriors, practically fresh meat that just happened to be elite from the get go.
It's easy to assume he just simply hasn't have the time to fully know his new enemies yet.

OP was just built as a new warrior and Megatron wasn't his most powerful yet. When you see OP damaged from laser fire in other episodes, he has been fighting for millions of years so he's warn down just like other TF's who have been fighting that long.
Because plot.
At 13:30 there is a error it briefly shows ariel running with the aerial bots then in the next scene she's on the ground damaged
I saw that
04:02 Well you created the Stuntacons Mighty Megatron, what did you expect from the Autobots?
Megatron: SILENCE!!!
That part where Optimus Prime mows down those combat drones always gets me.
"All this fuss over some stupid humans."
"'Stupid humans'? They only happen to be half of this planet's leaders."
-Slingshot and Silverbolt, who thinks the other half are... Atlanteans, maybe?
"There's only one way to get those Aerialbots off our tails and that's to... dump the chumps!"
-Starscream right before he dumps the chumps, er, humans.
"Are those guys crazy?"
"Crazy, or even dumber than I suspected."
-Skywarp and Starscream talking about the Aerialbots who stopped fighting and want to "talk" to the Seekers.
Starscream: Okay buddies, we'll talk. What do you want to know?
Slingshot: I want to know why Optimus Prime thinks you're evil.
Starscream: That old rust bucket doesn't know a thing about Decepticons. Stick with me. I'll teach you some things about the Decepticons, all right.
Silverbolt: I don't believe this!
-Starscream prepares to school the Aerialbots.
"Those little twerps. They're tryin' to switch sides!"
-Ironhide comments on the dubious loyalty of the Aerialbots.
"The Decepticons. Boy, this'd be a great time to get to know 'em!"
"You've just got to learn things the hard way, don'tcha?"
-Slingshot and Silverbolt
"A warrior doesn't need a head! Just a good, strong body."
-Megatron reveals one of his guiding philosophies, re: the downed Guardian Robot
"You may not recognize him. He is no longer Orion Pax. He is the first of our new defenders... Optimus Prime."
"I was wrong, my friends. I admired Megatron merely because he was powerful. I failed to see how he used that power."
-Alpha Trion introducing Optimus Prime.
Optimus Prime: You've caused enough destruction for one day, Megatron!
Megatron: I haven't even started!
[Megatron fires several shots at Optimus Prime, all of which bounce off harmlessly]
Megatron: [shocked] You, who are you?!
Optimus Prime: Your worst nightmare!
-Megatron and Optimus Prime confront each other for the first time.
"You’ll never get away from us, Megatron! We won’t stop fighting until you’re finished! YOU HEAR!?"
-Slingshot finally learning to aggressively hate his Decepticon enemies and not want to make peace by befriending them.
"It all began about nine million years ago..."
"Oh, great! It's gonna be one of those long stories!"
-Optimus Prime and Ratchet, after the latter demands to know what's going on.
the single best episode that is not a multi parter of the first two episodes, mabe even G1 as a whole. so much lore and development in just 22 minutes, outstanding
Golden age decepticon: So what alt mode did you get?
Other decepticon: cube
In our history books in school there was a WW1 era cartoon of a muscle bound headless soldier and a lanky general marveling at the guy stating "At last the perfect soldier".
Always thought of that when i hear Megatron state a warrior doesn't need a head.
A villain creating his own nemesis by accident. Classic.
