Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1 | Transformers: Generation 1 | Season 3 | E29 | Hasbro Pulse
An embittered scientist and his partner decide that it's time to rid themselves of every Transformer on Earth. Their plan is use the lifeless body of Optimus Prime to lure the Autobots to his laboratory, where they release a dangerous plague from space that pits Autobot against Autobot. But soon, this Hate Plague spreads to the Decepticons, the human race, and the entire universe as well. When Rodimus Prime falls victim to the plague as well, the galaxy's only hope is to restore Optimus Prime to life, hoping that he can save the Autobots and the galaxy.

Rodimus disconnecting Metroplex to prevent him from being infected was probably the smartest thing ever.
Except it's not because Magnus is already infected and inside Metroplex when Rodimus is attempting to disconnect him...
@@ValiantWrestling By that point enough of Metroplex was already offline he just needed to take the main console offline.
If they had to disconnect Metroplex because he'd be too dangerous infected I wonder if they had to do the same thing to the Dinobots or Omega Supreme.
@@andrewchin6211 I have a theory that Omega was actually infected and traveled to the planet that those sharkticons dwelled and infected them before leaving to spread it elsewhere.

No. They rejoicdd when Rodimus was replaced
Funny how whenever someone decides “all robots are evil” it’s always the Autobots they attack, never the Decepticons
That's probably because the ones who attacked the Deceptions never lived to tell the tale.
Nobody f***s with the Decepticons
Because the Decepticons are Democrats
They choos an easyer target. As much as they hate to admit it the autobots are good and won't kill missguided humans. Atack the decepticons and they don't pull punches in battle and they wouldn't hesitate to killmhumans.

Yes, if only Magnus displayed that kind of authority in the movie.
Oh god yeah. When I saw this comment I should have known you were referencing this scene. That music, man. Too many season 3 episodes must have been made while still producing season 2 that have the old school overly militaristic horns and Ateam vibe. Galvatron's best quote.
They never explained how he want from a damaged Zombie Prime with a missing arm on a collision course to the sun to a fully restored pristine Prime deactivated Prime. Hmm, same mystery as to where his Trailer goes in robot mode I guess.
That always bothered me since being a kid. Supposedly it is due to different animators doing Dark Awakening & The Return. Supposedly in the original script Prime was supposed to be damaged like he was in Dark Awakening and Swafford and Morgan fixed him up to weaponise him but it was removed due to time restrictions, also in the original script Rodimus was plagued with nightmares of zombie Optimus in the autobot mausoleum which would have been cool to see instead of him just mentioning it at Optimus's statue

As happy as I was to have Optimus Prime come back, the one problem I had was the fact that in the end of Dark Awakening, Prime was missing an arm, half of his face, and basically coming apart. It was only years later that I found out that this two-part season 3 finale was put together because everyone wanted Optimus Prime back.
Well in all actuality that was true he was missing things but when they put when they put the whole scene together for the new chapters the company that did the drawings didn't do the drawings correctly And of course it wasn't the same animating company that did the original so they didn't know any better
I didn't have a problem with another character taking over. I only had a problem with the impulsive dumbass that got Optimus killed taking over.
@@robertj.3383You nailed it; I would've handled Magnus leading the team so much better.
They re wrote the ending & Have to give no explanation to what happened. I think too since dark awakening I think those 2 humans were also in the area. Right after the fleet left. & Optimu's ship did not explode yet..All Has to do with re writing.
So the reason is it’s an animation error. Dark awakening was done by another company and then the contract was over. Then the other company that did the return of Optimus prime forgot to add in the battle damage.
Watched this on a local (Philippine) free TV channel back in the mid-1990s.
After weeks of adjusting (even enduring) Optimus Prime-less Season 3 episodes and countless replays, this episode was finally shown!
Then countless replays set in again until Part 2 was played.
It wasn't easy back then. The commercials made it even an episode longer, thus challenging the attention span.

What episode did Megatron and Optimus fought each other in the flashback reference?
@@johnmoore7926 I don't think they did that included Swolford. If they had it would have been early season 1, possibly when they brought in Chip. Perhaps around the time of Divide and Conquer, but I seriously doubt it, because there wasn't an episode that featured Swolford in seasons 1 nor 2.
@@johnmoore7926 There was no episode, it was some random encounter we never saw before.

@@ShadowSonic2 Agreed. This technically could've been anytime between the 4th G1 episode and the movie. Considering that the Decepticons conquered their home planet by 2005, I doubt '2005' Megatron had any interest on being in a random laboratory. So it suggests that the flashback occurred closer to the "we need energy" era vs the "Cybertron is ours" era. I always wondered about the Hate Plague. At first the infected wanted to tear each other apart but later it just becomes about infecting. I think the spores might have been a collective consciousness. In small portions they only used the aggression of hosts to spread. But as they infected more their intelligence grew as they had more minds to work in. Until the collective consciousness decided it wanted to grow to posses all life rather then destroy it.
But this was such a glorious return of all our Autobot Dad.
I always thought it was like the Hate virus from 28 days later, only less feral and more intelligent
So kinda like the flood from halo, where the more biomass they gain the smarter and harder to kill they get.
Yeah, I totally agree with that theory. It was interesting to me when the first infected started trying to tear each other down. Like almost like they had something to get off their chest and this was their perfect outlet to do it. I think Season 1 started off on Sunday mornings only back in 84. Anyway to make my point, I remember putting on the TV to watch the Season 3 episode for that day. Think it was either "Dark Awakening" or "Ghost in the Machine". Not to certain, were talking 35 years ago. But what I do remember was during the second set of ads on this season 3 episode which I was watching, came a little "teaser trailer" featuring Optimus Prime, saying "Heroes Never Die. I Optimus Prime can never be conquered!". I remember screaming "Fuck Yeah" the first time I saw that teaser trailer.

Seeing how Wreck-Gar maintained his "talk TV" personality after getting infected, it makes me wish the other Autobots who were infected get a little more screen time. Like with Blurr, hearing him talking about more or less killing anyone faster than anybody, and then able to infect several bots at once due to his fast speed, would be very interesting to see happen.
This story has enough potential to be a feature length film, the possibilities are endless. I love it but tbh two 20 minute episodes doesn’t do justice to the idea of a hate plague spreading across the universe

Ultra Magnus: "Where's that punk Rodimus Prime? I WANT HIM!!" Hmm.. has Magnus had a secret grudge against Rodimus this whole time for taking the matrix from him? 🤔
I think it's more that Rodimus is prone to making hotheaded decisions but because he is the leader Ultra Magnus has to listen even when he knows it's a bad idea. (19:13) 'The main memory bug' - That was the crucial difference between this episode and 'Dark Awakening'. Without that piece of curcitry, Optimus would merely be a (programmed) robotic zombie!
