@19:53 We hear Starscream make a direct reference to the 1983 hit, “Promises, Promises” by Naked Eyes. It’s awesome that we see Starscream keeping up with 80’s music here on earth.
"Promises, Promises" was a Broadway musical that premiered in 1968, which is one roundabout way of saying this phrase has been a common idiom practically forever before this episode. Much like the "booby trap that actually catches boobies".
Starscream shot Megatron in the back more than once. He definitely should have killed him a long time ago. This time, he had the nerve to shoot him, stand on him, and declare himself leader. Maybe Megatron waited so long to waste him because he's the ultimate Decepticon as far as representing what they stand for but he should have known sooner or later he'd have to put him down. Soundwave was always his true, loyal right hand anyway. But I guess it wouldn't have been much of a show if he killed him too early.
I love how Dead End showed no concern or interest that Megatron seemed to have been defeated. But when Motormaster asked if Starscream would stop with Megatron, Dead End responded, "Good point." He may be aloof and disinterested, but if his existence is threatened, he'll act out of self-interest and self-preservation.
Well, Motormaster did bring up a good point. If Starscream succeeds at becoming decepticon leader, will he stop there? That's why the stunticons had to take him down a peg.
The older I get, the more i appreciate Chris Lattas amazing performance as Starscream. But then, the same can be said for Cullen and Welker as Optimus and Megatron.
I bet he enjoyed researching Earth's various wars. Maybe he thought he could find some tricks to conquest or an idea of how to take down Megatron. Plus since decepticons don't really like humans I bet it pleased his electronic brain to read about them destroying each other.

Out of all of the episodes of season 2, 'Starscream's Brigade' could very well be my all time favourite because it not only showed how far Starscream was willing to go to become leader of the Decepticons but we even saw him create his own combiner team and for a portion of the episode, we even had a Decepticon civil war going on with two evil splinter factions going at it. Absolutely loved this one. 6:12 and thus a new combiner team was born 13:10 nice bit of backstory about the history of renegade Decepticons
"Shockwave is humble and respectable" Shockwave in every other scenes: shoots at everything isn't Decepticon, called the Dinobots foreign aliens even though Cybertron doesn't have citizenship and passport, and many times trying to squash dead tourists. Yes, very humble indeed.
Megatron meant that Shockwave was "humble and respectful" toward him. He was always obedient to Megatron and never tried to double-cross him. Obedience to himself is about the only virtue Megatron respects.
Even if he had defeated Megatron that day it wouldn't have lasted because Megatron has more experience as a soldier and a leader and he's way more cunning. He would have come up with a way to turn the tables again. On top of that the Combaticons know that Starscream is cowardly as one of them pointed that out plus they resent him anyway but, they also know that he can be clever at times and that may be why they chose to continue to put up with him after their energy recharge. The other Decepticons can't stand Starscream either. He's just to much in love with himself and whines when he doesn't get his way and Megatron is correct that Starscream is a child. Starscream constantly overrates himself, gets in over his head then, ends up begging Megatron for help or for mercy then, continues to be resentful because he fantasizes that he would make a better leader. Instead of taking orders and getting results, willingly admitting when he's wrong and asking Megatron to teach him how to be a more successful villain, he gripes and complains every time things do not play out perfectly and is always itching to overthrow Megatron. Starscream has potential but, his narcissism is one of his greatest weaknesses.

Clearly you never seen Armada or Cybertron. Both those Starscreams (while, technically one as those shows are in the same continuity) would destroy G1, and especially Prime's version.
Gotta agree with MrSerious. Prime Starscream was great with how they recaptured the originals personality so well. The sniveling power-hungry coward more interested is the glory then the fight. But Dodge 15 is right as well. Cybertron Starscream was cool for actually reaching a level to challenge Primus. And the return of the crown was cool. And Armada Starscream was cool for breaking out from the mold and being so different. Plus the wing unfolding into a sword was awesome. I liked to imagine Armada Skywarp had switched sides so he and Starscream could fight. Something like the opening fight scene in Karas. Look it up, you won't be disappointed.
They messed up the script here with a self made continuity error. The Combaticons are all seen recharging even though they don't have energy absorbers installed or at least missing one as they only capture the transformers. In the original script this is explained by only having 4 of the Combaticons recharge with Brawl missing out. In the ensuing fight Bruticus runs out of power (because Brawl couldn't recharge) and that's how Megatron wins but some senior exec told them to shoe horn in the Stunticons as they were still a new toy at the time and wanted them to have screen time.
Menasor just waits until other combiners are either handicapped or distracted then he pops up outta nowhere to attack. He's quite the opportunist : 1. Here: He blind sides Briticus while Bruticus has a clutch hold on Megs 2. FFoD: He blindsides a handicapped Devastator while he was consuming energon 3. Ultimate Weapon: He attempts to blindside a handicapped and distracted Defensor
The Decepticons were REALLY evil in this series compared to ANY Transformers show ever. @19:53 We hear Starscream make a direct reference to the 1983 hit, “Promises, Promises” by Naked Eyes. It’s awesome that we see Starscream keeping up with 80’s music here on earth.
I'm sure Soundwave keeps the Deceptions updated with Earth's top charted tracks
That song is in the GTA V soundtrack. In the radio station "Non-Stop Pop".

@@chrisedwards3214 weren't not wasn't the Dinobots are a group, not a thing...
I love this episode because Starscream came close to beating Megatron and the debut of my favorite Deception team, the Combaticons.

Best season is S2 in my opinion. Almost every character got introduced the right way.
G1 Starscream is best Starscream. Followed closely by Transformers: Prime Starscream just because that version is so well written
Correction: G1 Starscream IS Starscream. All others are imitations or versions
Galaxy Force Starscream for me. Both intelligent and badass.
Cybertron video games Starscreem is better than Prime Starscreem.
Thanks for that info ! Also makes sense why menasor got him.

1. Here: He blind sides Briticus while Bruticus has a clutch hold on Megs
2. FFoD: He blindsides a handicapped Devastator while he was consuming energon
3. Ultimate Weapon: He attempts to blindside a handicapped and distracted Defensor
Plus, while all the other Decepticon Combiners are taken out fairly quick, Menasor can only be defeated if you're LUCKY.
