    My last good deal is : bought two more Chopard luc watches , one of them is XPS with the 96.1 movement which actually was designed by parmigiana. It’s very similar to some of the watch movements in this video. It’s my top 3 most beautiful watch movements. Chopard luc watches is like a secret garden only for watch lovers who understand, appreciate great horology rather than big brand names. And thank you for help me discovering the Chopard luc in ur previously video! Wishing the best !

    Parmigiani! One of my favourite brands. As for people not liking the "Tonneau" shape, it should be stated that once it's on the wrist, the Parigiani Tonneau wears very comfortably. Also as an aside, this shape certainly has NOT stopped Richard Mille Watches from attaining the highest levels in price for their watches. Thanks again for another interesting & valuable video. You are certainly guiding watch collectors towards not only the obvous brands, but also those that have enourmous potential for the future due to quality & worth.

    Dear Bill,
    I definitelly agree that Parmigiani Fleurier is one of the last great watch deals in the current market!
    I have been trying pretty hard to keep investing in my collection, however, the prices of everything went up so much that it became impossible to keep buying from some brands!
    I belive that you can still find great value for money on Chopard L.U.C, Parmigiani Fleurier, and a few really novice watchmakers that are just starting like: Felipe Pikullik, Aleksandr Nesterenko, Sushkov Maxim and HOD Russia!
    Merry Christmas to you and your familly,
    Fernando

      After the stem broke in mine, I sent it in for service and overhaul, and it came back like a new watch. If you ever run into a problem with your Kalpa, send it to a Parmigiani Service Center. They do a great job, and while a tad pricey, you definitely get what you pay for....essentially a new watch. I recommend a service plus overhaul replacing all worn out parts and a lube job. Great watches ... I have to periodically get my FPJs serviced, and they too are expensive, but that happens with quality watches.

    By the way, a potential great deal with real pedigree - the IWC pDa Vinci Perpetual calendar. I saw it as low as 7200, and it's a full perpetual calendar from Kurt Klaus. Insane stuff. I'm not sure why no one's buying those - probably afraid of potential service costs. And I suppose the round shape is less appealing nowadays?
    On a completely different side of the spectrum - though a mass-market watch - the newer Omega Constellations are underappreciated in the Western markets.

    It may be me (the "irresponsible" one) !! There may be many of us. I bought the Tonda 1950, 39mm, white gold, automatic, with a Tahitian mother or pearl dial. Can be worn by either gender and 39 mm is perfect for my smaller wrist. It's a superb watch and I am so happy with it. I like the idea of supporting the independent watch makers and I think you get more bang for your buck with most of them. I never heard of Parmigiani until I saw it on Bill's list of horology and then I went shopping. Thanks Bill.

    Another great video Bill! I'm hoping that there is still at least one more great deal to be made out there. If I might be so bold, I have a favor to ask of you. I really like the size of the Kalpa that you are wearing in this video. If at all possible would you tell me the size of the watch? I have been searching for a Kalpa for several months now and it seems all I can find are the 34mm X 41mm versions. I think that might be too small. I have a lead on a 37mm X 51mm, that was produced in 2008. I think I can pick it up for around $3,500. I'm also trying to find out if this is a good price for a 14 year old (2008) Parmigiani. Price information is very hard to come by on an older Parmigiani. In the meantime I'm still in love with my Parmigiani Tonda Metrograph.
    Thanks for any help you can give me.

      @@watchartsci Thanks for the link Bill. I ran across that watch during my hunt. That dial is by far my favorite. Only 2 things are holding me back, no gold rotor, and I would really like it on a bracelet. The bracelet on your model appears to have the same bracelet that is on my Metrograph. If I could find a bracelet for it I would in all likelihood buy it. I haven't been able to find a bracelet, and if I were able to I would imagine the price is astronomical.
      As long as I know the size I can now concentrate on the larger models.

    With the new pf line and shrinking it's product line do you think buying a tonda gt as you showed last side at retail is a good buy? All gt are limited editions and not sure will make the gt or big date any longer.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wesley, not at retail. Of course I don't buy anything at MSRP ... except my Habring2. Recently I read an article about naming products, watches in particular, and how important it was to have a name that's easy to declare like 'Rolex' and 'Timex.' Parmigiani Fleurier was singled out as a watch not doing well because, in part, it was hard to pronounce. I don't know if I buy that. "Voutilainen" and "Greubel Forsey" are two tongue-twisters and often misspelled. They could call Dufour's Simplicity, "Rumpelstiltskin," and it would have no effect on collectors' desire to have one. Here's one I'd get...the GPHG award-winning Toric Retrograde. The seller has put up a poorly presented example, but one that is way below the selling price. I'd offer $8,000 and make sure the watch went through the escrow process. www.chrono24.com/parmigianifleurier/toric-retrograde--id21422345.htm

    It's a real pity, I love the idea of the Kalpa, I just think it looks completely out of place on my wrist, in a way that, for example, the JLC Reverso doesn't.
    Parmigiani is one of those brands that I really like - but I haven't found anything that would really fit. At that price point, I'd be looking for something that has perhaps more elaborate decor, but it starts competing too heavily with other things in the sub-10K range.

    Great watches for sure, from a watchmaking perspective. But, I think the brand languishes due to a couple of things. Firstly marketing - it's so hard for smaller companies to get airtime and raise their image (especially with a name most people can't pronounce - a problem for Longines and JLC too). While there's more people 'into' watches, they are mostly very brand (and design) conservative. Secondly is design - which of course is subjective. But there are a couple of cues that make the watches look very different to the (safe?) mainstream: They are quite large and they are visually complex - lots of curves, finishes and flourishes. If P could make a watch which was simpler (more boring?!) in design and slightly smaller, I think they could turn the brand around. They just need one hit...

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi James you're right, Parmigiani Fleurier, while having great movements, a living top watchmaker and very high quality, just don't appeal to the herd mentality that sells watches. That should be good for collectors because the price drops and we can afford an excellent timepiece. I have looked at PF watches for weeks and went to visit a dealer, tried them on and really focused on those watches because of great deals that could be made. I ended up buying a brand new Breguet classique blue enamel dial last October and it was near full price. The reasons were: I was fascinated by the dial and the hands, and the fit on my wrist was simply magical. In my opinion, when paying over 20K$ for a watch, there has to be something magical going on and that didn’t happen with PF.
