    Fede, I love that you give props to Panerai and Grand Seiko. You're an honest voice that called them both out in previous years when they deserved it. Now they deservedly get your vote and that's the power of the independent, unbiased, unprejudiced voice you have.

    Knew you were going to list Panerai when I saw the title! I have 11 in my collection now, so I'm cool with that. I have also had the sense lately that they are throwing off the dark years and climbing back up the ladder.

    Props to you for including my favorite watch brand - PANERAI. I just love their iconic design which you recognize from across the room. I have several Rolexes and still I love wearing my PAM 915 on the black rubber band the most.

    The one Panerai I love to have is the Panerai Luminor chronograph with the Zenith El primero movement from the early 2000s and when they were made in Italy 🇮🇹Sinn has been getting alot of attention aswell same with Longines

    Love Panerai too. My recommendation: buy it from your local dealer!!
    I had a horrible experience sending a watch back for service after only 2 months of ownership. Bought online from their site. Sent it back due to a misaligned bezel and got back a scratched crystal, scratched caseback, polished aluminum bezel (Pam1389 Submersible 44mm) and took them 2 months to finally get me a brand new replacement.
    Got a free strap for all my frustration though.. 😳😳🤣🤣
    Anyways, love the brand, love my watches just make sure to buy yours through your local pals.

    I spy a silver TH-cam plaque that isn't usually there in the background. Nice work Fed 👏 (You might want to move it over a few inches though - when you wave your hands around they reflect in the shiny bit 😷)

    Just got the SBGW289 Grand Seiko, to me it’s a absolutely gorgeous unisex watch and they have absolutely been nailing the dials

      @gerardanthony9834 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I agree. It’s quite beautiful and a good size. Interesting to me that as a limited edition, I saw one the other day at an AD and online. The price point is excellent. I was enamored with the SBGA413 which has a more nuanced pink dial but it fit too large and I don’t like the power indicator. Ultimately, two excellent pink hues but two different watches.

    The Girard-Perregaux Laureato 38mm Copper is a beautiful watch. It would be interesting to see if GP reintroduce a 'Hi-Beat' movement. The Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda range is pretty nice too but I prefer the aesthetic of the GP. I have always considered Panerai to be a dog of a watch. In my opinion, they are extremely ugly, for 'actors' and hipster boys. They are not the same brand that were worn by men of the Regia Marina.

    In order for a brand to be successful they absolutely HAVE to find their one crown jewel. JLC found it, Rolex found it, Omega found it, AP found it, GS still hasn't..

    The GP looks very much like the Victorinox Inox Automatic (my favorite watch). Specifically the bezel and dial. With that said, I’m not sure which watch came first. Excellent video!

  • @gerardanthony9834
    @gerardanthony9834 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Agree on GP and especially Grand Seiko. While it’s a bit taxing to keep up with GS’s myriad releases, some of their dials are unequivocally stunning. Personally ai prefer a leather strap with my choices over metal. I’ve seriously considered them the past and now No. 1 on the list. Finally reconciled my uncertainty on the Spring Drive because it’s flat-out mesmerizing and the brand has moved the power indicator off the dial. Thank you! Great segment, Fed.

    I've skirted buying a Panerai for a while now. The quality just isn't there at the price they're asking IMO, and residuals seem to be terrible due to the perception of the market being full of super-fakes.

      I think you can get some very nice ones on the used market, but they are quite hit-and-miss. That said, I'd definitely be careful buying used ones, particularly in steel with closed case backs.

  • @GCPlati85
    @GCPlati85 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    IMHO Panerai is still in the dark ages. Core models at a lower prices is a step forward. But Submersibles on rubber at 10k is indefensible, especially with non-trivial quality control issues.

    Two brands I'll talk about: GP - When I was first (really kinda) getting into watches, I bought the GP EVO moonphase power reserve from j…shop and was like WOW! It was gorgeous! A little on the large side for me, but…WOW! I checked it for a few days and then realized that the moonphase wasn't working. First time with such complications so thought that maybe I had to do something to use the "complication". Then after a few checks online to see if I had something to worry about, I realized that, no… it wasn't doing what it was supposed to. So I returned it…No hassle…j…shop was real cool. They understood and didn't require me to wait for any unwanted repairs and refunded my money. Sometimes wonder whether I should've just waited for a resolve because it was truly beautiful!; GS - This was before they took the separate Seiko branding off the dial. I bought it to fill a hole in my collection for a black dial, business watch. Here again, it was incredible and I was really happy. The glossy dial, sharp, shiny hands and indices were beautiful to look at, but then I bought an early 2000's Rolex Explorer that came to compete with it for wrist time. In both cases now, I sometimes wish they were still in my collection.

      I got so crazy that I almost bought Esmeralda! That's the GP that one "watches and wonders" this year. They are marketing it now .they are making eight of them. Their marketing at them at 41 1/2 mm though. It's a thick watch so there's no way I could wear it. I'm sure you know the watch, it's the galloping horses, three bridges , tourbillon. I was going to sell my entire collection to get it. There was a misunderstanding. I wanted the actual watch from the show which was around 39 mm. But I first talked to him they said I could have it. However said they could only sell the eight that are 41s and very thick. Do you know what I'm glad the deal didn't go through! Otherwise sure one of that watch I have a picture of it on my screensaver. I want to thank you very much for your kind message. I'm not at the hospital now. However I'm in the bed. They took 10 grand out of my watch budget lol. I know where there's a very good A Longa. Gold chronograph 39.5 millimeter. Three subdials just like a Daytona. For under 40 K USD plus tax. I saw that Feldmar watch co. Los Angeles. Beautiful piece. But I just couldn't get the GP galloping horses out of my mind. I don't think it's gonna happen for me though.--for asking about my health. I am home now with a custom built hospital bed. It cost me as much as a good watch lol. Big regret there but well worth the cost. I had major spine surgery my whole back is shot. Are used to race. Now I'm paying the price. No pity pot I think I'm doing better but not operable. They could only pick some of it.-Great meeting you. If you ever wanna picture something at my collection be glad to share some video with you. Many thanks.

    Grand Seiko should have had a different name from the outset. You can’t have a luxury brand which reminds people (me at least) of something 10x cheaper (albeit Seiko is a good brand). It’s why Toyota created Lexus instead of calling the brand Grand Toyota

    Czapek - soo expensive
    Laureato - beautiful but too pricy and too similar to RO
    Penerai - too large for most
    Parmigiani - beautiful finish, a bit too large though?
    GS - tapered bracelet with micro adjust then yes
    My two cents

    The Panerai has an unusual case with an industrial looking crown guard that for sure will keep your watch dry underwater. I got online that night and turned out that the watch is not even waterproof. I know they make a waterproof model with the same crown guard however it's a very expensive watch for what I think it's an ugly case. I went to Omega where you get what you pay for

    • @ivanharlokin
      @ivanharlokin ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All Panerai watches are waterproof. What you may be referring to is their (much criticized - including by Fed in this video) Due line, which only has 30m water resistance; which is ridiculous for a watch with a diving crown guard.
      As to aesthetics, it's all a matter of taste, but I hope you enjoy your boring Omega with its ugly helium escape wart.

    Fed, Great video and I agree with all, especially Parmigiani Fleurier. I own a white Gold, white dial Tonda 1950 that I took two years to choose, and it won out over equivalent ALS Saxonia Thin, Breguet 7147 and PP 5124G-001. The 71% off of the retail price made the difference! That being said, I CAN'T believe that even you are perpetuating the PF nonsense that their GMT Rattrapante is in fact a GMT! It's nothing of the sort, it's a dual time complication... Period!

    GS (and perhaps a few other smaller brands?) offer better horological quality and options better finishing for a lower price than Rolex.
    Rolex is the Mercedes of the 90s while GS is the Lexus. Reputation is pretty much all that Rolex is dominant in.
    That is not to say that Rolex will be surpassed in sales by GS. But it will increasingly be cross-shopped with GS and Omega which means lower market share and more critically lower profitability.

    • @ivanharlokin
      @ivanharlokin ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great analogy, you are right. Apart from some lovely GS dials, it can be hard to tell the difference at a glance between a GS and a Seiko Presage or King Seiko. Just like so many Lexus cars still look like tarted-up Toyotas.
