This is a great list but I strongly believe the Patek Philippe Calatrava is a great old money watch and definitely deserves to be on this list for the fact that it's understated and flies below the radar...a trademark characteristic of old money wealth.😁
I don’t know that anyone would disagree that the Patek Philippe Calatrava is a great watch, the only question is do you want to spend $33,000 dollars on a watch? And if you did would you actually wear it? I inherited a Rolex Daytona which is worth no where near what a Calatrava is, and I won’t wear it.
I agree with you about the wearability of a Patek Philippe Calatrava, it is definitely not as versatile as a Rolex Oyster Perpetual. However, I don't think this video was about expensive watches, or else Antonio wouldn't have featured AP in here. It's more about what signals old money.
Eh, other companies make dress watches like the Calatrava. It's not iconic really. In the Patek realm go Lange and Sohne or maybe Glashutte. Or slum it and go Longines.
@ahoneyman the Longines dress watch range is quite good, I'll admit. Very simple yet sophisticated. But again, the video wasn't about popular watches, albeit the JLC Reverso and others here are quite popular. The idea of old money is the opposite of today's Instagram or Influencer driven, show-off - "Look at what I'm wearing" culture. So, while brands like Lange and Sohne have become popular and have absolutely great watches, they don't signify old money (in my opinion). In the end, I guess it's about what you're comfortable wearing when you are wealthy. And if that's a Casio G Shock, power to you!

AP is probably more new money than old money. Just so much hype over them right now brings in all the ballers. At least the Royal Oak. I would trade AP out for Vacheron Constantin on this list. You see someone wearing an Overseas, you know they know watches, and you know they’ve got deep pockets.
As a daily wear beater, the G-shock "solar" (no battery changing) is good... 4 years... no issues. I hardly ever take it off, except when showering. In bed, it's easy to hit the light button to see the time... without having to maneuver toward the bedstand.
Great list of watches. I would add the Omega Speedmaster Professional. This watch is pure class and any watch aficionado will appreciate this watch’s history.
The G-Shock was always a go to for the defence forces, I call mine my war watch. It is black with blue highlights, has been bashed and smashed and still ticks. I have been looking at the IWC Schaffhausen Portofino Complete Calendar, it just looks so nice.
Antonio I came to your channel for your great fashion tips about a week and a half ago. I've have been so impressed with all the subjects above and beyond fashion affecting men today that you have covered so professionally knowledgeable educational advice with enthusiasm honesty and heart. You are doing an outstanding service for men of all ages everywhere. I Want to say ftom Australia Good Onya m8.
This is a fabulous video Antonio. I wear a G-Shock original exactly as you mentioned and it's still my favourite. I've also got a JLC and an OP after having far heavier hitters over the years but came back to these masterpieces. I've a couple of vintage birth year pieces left to find and a newer 'fun' Rolex to add but after years of excess, finally whittling it down I'm pretty content.
Bremont. Just over 20 years in business out of Britain. Timeless old school designs and they do tons of custom jobs. Primarily for military groups. I.e graduating classes of military academy’s and military squadrons all over the world. Their story alone is worth a look.
As for a dive watch I prefers my submarine, which I got back in the 1960s when I was in the military. I’m also a SCUBA instructor. I know you included a Santos de Cartier but you should have included a Cartier Tank, which was worn by Princes Die, Jackie Kennedy, Andy Warhol to name a few. I think you should have also included a Bulova, which was good enough for Frank.
For Omegas, I’ll pick a speedmaster over a seamaster. Classic designs with a great history. You can also have a bunch of different variations to choose from
Solid list! I'd substitute the Datejust, Speedy & Autavia for the OP, Navitimer and Monaco. Can't go wrong with any of them though! Honorable mention to the Lange 1.
The essential Old Money watches are(you covered a few): 1. Cartier Santos de Cartier steel or Tank Louis gold 2. Rolex DateJust steel 3. Rolex Sub, blackface steel 4. JLC Reverso gold 5. Patek Calatrava gold 6. Breguet Type XX Transatlantique steel 7. BlancPain Fifty Fathom steel 8. VC Historique American Platinum or Patrimony gold 9. Philippe Dufour Grande Sonnerie gold The Patek is the most “old money” of all the watches and you could have gone with a perpetual calendar or a Nautilus also.
If you want to go for the minimalist timeless elegance side of old money style, some higher-end to high-end German watchmakers should be on your radar as well: Junghans, Nomos Glashütte, and MeisterSinger would be my recommendations.
I personally love the Casio A-158WA vintage watch. It's not super expensive or very feature rich, but that's the point. it's simple, it's digital and it has a silver bracelet, everything I need in a classic
Never understood the appeal of the Submariner or Dive Watches in general for that matter. The Oyster Perpetual is perfect though. If I ever get myself a Rolex, this will probably be it. The fact that it's a most affordable of the lot is an extra bonus.
Loved the video and agree with all on the list and also agree that it could have easily been twice as long. I was wondering if when you have time and I’m sure that’s limited, you might do lists for those that really capture the essence of each decade. I’m sure that would be fascinating not just for me. Plus gives you an opportunity for a series of videos. I personally really like 70s styling. Thanks again!
@@soberguycarmansimpson5836 I love the bold colors often used, the turtle shapes, and often thought gaudy multi complication bezel designs. They just had a certain vibe then I personally enjoy. Being born in the 80s, unfortunately it was before my time.
I would add the Omega Speedmaster. Maybe it is because I live in Space City, but that watch is a beauty and will never go out of style. I personally like it more than the seamaster and think it looks better formal.
Hey Butters, cool name. I love the Speedmaster also, but it is a sports watch and entirely too big to wear with a formal suit because it can catch on the cuff and not let your jacket sleeve hang all the way down. These days people would just notice your cool watch and maybe compliment you on it. But, old money would look down their nose at you for wearing the wrong kind of watch for the occasion. They wouldn’t say anything of course. But if it was a dress occasion they might assume that you only owned one watch. Not good if you were hoping to make business contacts. Sorry.
Great choice on the Cartier! The Santos and the Tank are my 2 favorite watches! So perfectly balanced and proportioned. Tag Heuer as a brand too has allot of fun, sporty models
"Guys, I'm a kid from a West Texas trailer park. I can't pronounce half this crap." is my vibe. This is why I've been binging your content for two weeks solid. haha!

Breitling did make a smaller 38 mm Navitimer called theNavitimer Crosswind. I have it in my collection. They discontinued the model 20 years ago. It is a great watch and almost exactly the same as the large 42 and 44 mm Navitimer models but with a date wheel at 12 o’clock. A great wearable watch in 38mm size.
I like your presentation and choices. Having some overlap with your selected time pieces, I would like to hear your thoughts on Breguet, Blancpain, maybe a Baum et Mercier?
Does the metal in my belt buckle, the zipper on my jacket, and my rings have to match the chain and watch that I wear in the overall outfit? Does all metal have to match?
I inherited my dad's AP Royal Oak, rose gold with a white dial and brown alligator strap. It's gorgeous and attracts too much attention for me, but it was his favorite watch in his collection.
very comprehensive list.totally agree on them especially the rolex piece as rolex isn my favorite but that base model is the one for this list and needs to be mentioned. For omega i like better the Seamaster/aquaterra line which is more classy design yet can function as well as a seamaster. AP is a must for sure. Ulysse Nardin, Breguet, and some others could be on the list but of course the list is endless and you cant include everything. Nice video good job.
Cartier Santos Galbee 1564 Quartz 41mm x 29mm case, great watch low maintainence subtle curves hugs the wrist. Very stylish and affiordable. It sits on the wrist like no other high end watch that I have had the privilege to wear.
For the young gentlemen just starting out in the business or dressy technology world, I would suggest a less expensive watch, the Tag Huer Aquaracer. They are relatively much less expensive than the watches mentioned in this video. These are dressy and sporty at the same time. The quartz version is much more of a value proposition.
Vai Brasil! Santos Dumont is one important hero for Brasil, and he's wardrobe it's brilliant such as him. A fashion iconic to be considered when speaking about fashion history. Congrats on your work!
I love your content but I didn’t know yoy were a watch guy! This is my subject and passion. You are correct Santos absolute 1000 percent classic. I just got the green dial large version.
I have worn the same watch every day for 25 years so am not the best person to talk about collections. However, there are two notable omissions from the list, Patek Philippe Nautilus and Hamilton Khaki Field.
With all due respect Andrew, if you ever see a British or German banker wearing a Hamilton Khaki let me know. Oops, sorry for the sarcasm, you were absolutely right about the Nautilus. Buying a stainless steel sports watch for three times the price of a Rolex is very “old money”.
@@soberguycarmansimpson5836 I would agree with you in theory, but watching the video he is talking more about classic style, not what old money people wear (Casio). I don't know many bankers, but those I do all seem to own Patek Philippe, but wear Apple.
Thanks for lots of history - learned something new! AP? With this skeleton type of watches I personally struggle to see what time they actually show:) And yes - I'd love to see part 2 and 3. Brands like Panerai with rich history.
I didn't analyze the watch collection stills, but you can definitely sell at least one of those and replace with the Cartier. You should probably sell most of them unless they all have sentimental value anyway.
I have a blue Seamaster “Goldeneye” era watch it’s a nice piece. I’d like an Aqua Terra or a Longines Conquest or a Grand Seiko. I’m not old money nor do I seek that but don’t mind an older classic. Cars Antonio? There’s plenty of channels for that but pretty sure you could riff for 10 min on a good list. I’ll start - any Porsche 911.
I’m sorry Eric, but none of those watches are likely to be working 2 years from now. So sorry, but real quality watches cost way more than that. You might try making payments on a Hamilton mechanical,$700 - $1000, or a Citizen or Seiko light rechargeable quartz, $350-$1000, 😂or the worlds best deal on a watch; the Longines Ultra High Precision, 7 year battery, perpetual calendar, sports watch.
Old money? Well, GHW Bush wore a Timex Indiglow on a nylon strap. My best pal from boarding school wears a Rolex President as an everyday watch, but loves his Calatrava, wears it very often, and likens the difference between them as about the same as that between a Volkswagen Golf and an Aston Martin DB4GT (which he also owns and often drives). I sometimes wear a Hamilton Altair given to me by my dad, also a VC triple calendar from the same source.
Rolex is luxury and investment brand, absolutely not an old money style brand. European gentlemen with established backrounds seldom carry heavy gold chains, have diamonds on their person or wear Rolexes.
I mix with everyday people more than the type of gentleman you describe, but I like that they do that. I remember seeing something about a Korean jeweller years back dressing in a very underwhelming manner in a modest suit and transporting his diamonds on the subway sticky taped to the inside of a rolled up newspaper. The most moderately dressed guy was transporting thousands and thousands around on a regular basis totally low key. He certainly wasn't displaying his diamonds.
All of them are beautiful, that's for sure, but I myself actually like telling the time in my watches. So that Audemars Piguet is a no-go for me. Not like I can afford one anyway 😁
"add another expensive watch to my collection, my wife would kill me" 🤣🤣 That sounds like me 😂 I love my Cartier. I could practically wear it with anything and it gets the same attraction.
I have nothing against Casio, but I think that calling it old money is a bit of a stretch. It's iconic, maybe stylish, but old money? Nah. Good info on the other watches though.
love that Seamaster, just pure class, but not sure about the reverso, just never resonated with me and I think the old school calatravas are better, but yeah it's very personal :)
I think that nostalgia may have a lot to do with it. I the 1930’s and 40’s, Hamilton’s rectangular Art Deco watches in their gold filled and 10kt gold watches really ruled America. Elgin and Waltham and all the others based on the Cartier Tank were super popular. As was the much better and more expensive LeCoutre Reverso. However, the round dial Calatrava was more legible to those beginning to need reading glasses. Many people forget legibility was also a factor in helping early Rolexes to gain sales. ( regardless of their crudeness compared to the finer Swiss watches). The first super high quality wrist watch, the Patek Phillipe “Calatrava” 1934? Was a breakthrough for old money gents who were used to pocket watches.
@@soberguycarmansimpson5836 thanks for the very informed response 😎👍 if I had the money then those older hamilton's would be at the top of my shopping list!! I've reviewed several vintage pieces recently and yes you're right; the nostalgic strings are the ones that resonate loudest 😎👍
my 9 would be something like Rolex Sub, Tudor Prince, Omega Seamaster, Longiines Spirit, Breitling Chronomat, Breitling SOH 57, Oris Aquis, Monta Noble, Sinn 556... old money doesnt usually walk around with super expensive stuff not as their daily anyway... old money = smart money... not bling bling till it busted...
WHY should anyone care about old money watches? To appear that they have ‘old money’ riches, without actually having that kind of family fortune. What’s the goal here exactly? Who cares about that stuff and how shallow people promoting and watching this are?

For the young gentlemen just starting out in the business or dressy technology world, I would suggest a less expensive watch, the Tag Huer Aquaracer. They are relatively much less expensive than the watches mentioned in this video. These are dressy and sporty at the same time. The quartz version is much more of a value proposition.
Vai Brasil! Santos Dumont is one important hero for Brasil, and he's wardrobe it's brilliant such as him. A fashion iconic to be considered when speaking about fashion history. Congrats on your work!
The Rolex OP is my favorite out of Rolex's catalog since it goes with everything
Was searching for this content finally found it at the right place
Great video. Can we get one for new money watches?
Good suggestion!
Just say Richard Mille and have done with it. @@RealMenRealStyle 🤣🤣
Good suggestion, unfortunately 75% of that might be Rolex.
My favorites are Jack Mason and Daniel Wellington.....I also like the citizen eco drive watches....
Would you consider Frederique Constant a good quality watch I like there automatic and looking forward to buying one next spring
Took me a while to buy a McQueen Monaco but its now my most cherished watch. Will never sell it…
Love the selection here, though for my personal budget, Seiko is an amazing value for the price and is what most of my collection is made of.
I love the royal oak design. Admittedly, I own an homage to the watch.
Thanks for lots of history - learned something new!
AP? With this skeleton type of watches I personally struggle to see what time they actually show:)
And yes - I'd love to see part 2 and 3. Brands like Panerai with rich history.
G-Shock is absolutely NOT old money!
I didn't analyze the watch collection stills, but you can definitely sell at least one of those and replace with the Cartier. You should probably sell most of them unless they all have sentimental value anyway.
Great list. I would’ve swapped out the OP and Seamaster for a Submariner and Speedmaster. They’re just more iconic examples from each brand.
I love your channel. I just discovered it. I’m making a watch purchase soon. Great videos and congrats on your xo ruined success!
Great video Antonio. There are also some great new stylish watchmakers out there, my faves being Panzera, DeTomaso, and Torgoen.
I own a Breitling Chronomat Evolution
It’s a classic Beautiful Chronograph
Grand Seiko Def old money. Best in class for the money and endless timepiece.
Antonio, any idea on stylish hypoallergenic watches, for guys with nickel allergies?
Buy gold
Can we get a part 2 or the full list in the details please?
2:39 you have the Casio Royale too!
Im thinking of getting a diy watch and putting it together. Watch making i found interesting along with hat making
I use this now
All of them are beautiful, that's for sure, but I myself actually like telling the time in my watches. So that Audemars Piguet is a no-go for me. Not like I can afford one anyway 😁
Need a part 2
I really enjoyed this video. Thank you. God Bless.
"add another expensive watch to my collection, my wife would kill me" 🤣🤣
That sounds like me 😂
I love my Cartier. I could practically wear it with anything and it gets the same attraction.
Oh I like watch number 4 never heard of them I’ll be on a look out for one
The right watch is always a great signature.
Centeno, what do you think about marathon watches? Thanks
Love that Santos, but before I get a Santos I'll get the Cartier Tank Watch.
What do you think about "Frederique Constant Classics Heart Beat Automatic"?
Can that be recognised as Old Money?
I have nothing against Casio, but I think that calling it old money is a bit of a stretch. It's iconic, maybe stylish, but old money? Nah. Good info on the other watches though.
Not Casio, but certainly Timex.
love that Seamaster, just pure class, but not sure about the reverso, just never resonated with me and I think the old school calatravas are better, but yeah it's very personal :)
I want to see part 2, please
Vacheron Constantin is a too old money brand. Great video.
my 9 would be something like Rolex Sub, Tudor Prince, Omega Seamaster, Longiines Spirit, Breitling Chronomat, Breitling SOH 57, Oris Aquis, Monta Noble, Sinn 556... old money doesnt usually walk around with super expensive stuff not as their daily anyway... old money = smart money... not bling bling till it busted...
WHY should anyone care about old money watches? To appear that they have ‘old money’ riches, without actually having that kind of family fortune. What’s the goal here exactly? Who cares about that stuff and how shallow people promoting and watching this are?
Prefer watches from companies which only make watches. Not jewelry like Cartier. Love the VC dual time.
Great video Sir.
Glad you liked it!
