I don’t have much to add but im just commenting cause I think this is a good thing to be talked about. Sometimes I felt like some people in the animation community intentionally would lean towards the more 18+ animations or talks etc just to garner curiosity and views from unknowing children and it makes me upset. It makes me sad that this is still happening it sounds like.
THIS EXACTLY!! It’s frustrating because they don’t put *actual* warnings or screen it to adults only(which is VERY easy to do)-and because of that it lures children in regardless. Suggestive animation memes specifically have been becoming a popularity within the community, when most of the demographics are still fairly young. I dunno-it’s always rubbed me the wrong way.
Yk when you watch a video and you're like "I'VE THOUGHT THIS ALL ALONG I JUST DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO WORD IT" This video is literally that for me Awesome video and omg your art is too yummy for words wtf /pos
3:08 okay, I disagree. Obviously if there aren’t any disclaimers it’s just poor etiquette to put sexual stuff in videos, regardless of audience, but if you WARNED for it and said that the content is inappropriate for children, and the children have a choice not to watch it, it’s not on you if they end up watching anyway. At this point it’s on the viewer, and on the viewer’s parent for not monitoring their child’s online presence enough. If there are clear warnings for sexual (or any other potentially upsetting or simply mature) content, then you don’t have to change what you do just because some tiny weirdos came to YOUR channel even though you told them not to. It’s the viewer’s job to regulate their experience online. What they *choose* to watch is on them.
I agree! I think I poorly worded my intentions while recording this segment, so for clarity’s sake I’ll restate it here: The warnings depend on the pre-existing audience you garnered before making said content. If you’ve always been making content with the warnings and the viewers have been aware of this-then it isn’t on the creator for unwatched children stumble upon it. However, in the case of garnering an audience of mostly children and basing your persona around that-and then subjecting them to heavier topics (with warnings regardless) then I see an issue. Those children already are watching your videos regularly, and likely don’t understand the severity of said warnings.
I agree. Like, I'm sorry, but if it's not my kid then I shouldn't be the one to parent them, it's simply not my job. Social media is already becoming way too kid friendly, while kids shouldn't be on it in the first place. Why should I stick to drawing PG stuff and not what I actually want to draw, when parents can just, you know, parent.
Middle schoolers also don’t have a (full) grasp on severity or heavy weighted topics either. In the experiences I vaguely brushed upon in the mid-section of the video: I was attending middle school and within the middle school age. I’m not exactly sure how this falls under purity culture? But I’d like to get an understanding of how it can be viewed that way. /gen Not everything has to be for kids. And serious topics don’t have to be completely alienated from discussion!! Awareness is one of the more important things that I think larger content creators shouldn’t shy away from. But this video *isn’t* in critique of those sorts of videos, if this makes sense!! My personal gripes (and the main issue I’m addressing here) are with Content Creators (who directly have child/unready audiences) and expose them to topics in a uninformative-and untasteful manner. I apologize if that didn’t exactly seem clear in this video!! :3
@@MerRants I'm a dumbass 💀 I completely missed the point. I kept seeing discussions on TikTok how purity culture is ruining the Internet by making everything non-sexual or be completely for kids. I was feeling very heated when I was making the comment, so I just somehow misinterpreted what you said and now I look like a clown.
@@TwinkleMaddie It wasn’t your fault!! Multiple people have interpreted this video in the same way :3 It’s just that this video wasn’t properly structured-and rushed, so my points weren’t as clear as they should’ve been. That was my own fault, not yours!! /gen
I hope that when I get big on my platform one day, my audience will mainly consist of hyper intelligent free thinking self aware individuals.
