Also after a relisten or two I apologize for the rustling sounds near the 9-10 minute mark 😭 all of the recordings I do are on the default Apple headphones and keeping it in place this time was a little bit difficult.
I absolutely love seeing people's racebending headcanons the designs are always so cool! I really believe headcanons are are most of the time just silly fun and people should just let people have fun. I personally have a lot trans headcanons and yeah, it's because it's nice to have characters similar to you.
Life is simply too short and too drab and miserable to be making people feel bad about reimagining fictional, nonexistent characters to befit something more to your taste/imagination. That’s how I see it!
I think even if hypothetically there was a good amount of representation for gay and transgender in media. I still think having gay or trans headcannons should still exist and don't need a reason to exist. Sometimes headcannons are just creative self expression or done just for fun. I don't think anyone should limit their imagination just because of how other people feel about headcannons. That kind of restriction hinders creativity. Just let people have fun. Let people draw FNAF animatronics as furry domestic roommates who get into fun shenanigans or just do fun stuff together. Also a lot of hate to headcannons usually end up being racist, homophobic, transphobic and abelist so.

i found your channel when i was procrastinating my homework about 2 weeks ago and i binged watched all of your videos. your persona is so cool and unique it dew me in, im like a fish and i just went for the bait of the pink haired cyclops
That's so odd that when I was filming a video on this very topic, then this video came up in my recommended feed. How funny is that? XD Anyways, this was a great video! And you pretty much said everything that I wanted to say in my own video I'm still editing. And you made everything make so much sense! I always have trouble saying my thoughts, it all comes out as mumbles. XD I personally have a lot of character headcannons, and I've gotten a LOT of hate comments and DEATH THREATS over me saying I think certain characters are gay or trans. As well as me sometimes making certain characters have darker muzzle on my Gacha designs, or headcannon artworks. It's really upsetting, since my fan designs aren't effecting cannon in the slightest. But some people get SO ANGRY over it, and it just shows people's bigotry. Like, I see when people get writing confused with fannon writing, but designs? That really makes me think some people are dumb lol. Also I love how you brought up that you made a lot of Pilipino oc's! People have accused me of making no original characters, and just "Ruining the original property to twist it into my cannon". Like, no? A lot of my headcannons stem from me having little representation as a kid, or genuinely thinking characters are a certain way from the writing of my favorite game/comic. Making a character gay or trans, also changes nothing about their personality. I've had people tell me that as well before, like "*Character* wouldn't care about their gender!", or "*Character* is straight! You're ruining my childhood!". I make a lot of characters who are gay, autistic, and people of color, because I personally am that! And growing up I had no characters who really related to me. Especially because I'm also Autistic, and most people hated on those things when I was younger on the internet back in the day. So I like to show my audience, or make silly stories about characters who are based off of me to some regard. Headcannoning relates a lot to kinning, and people usually make headcannons when they love a character. So I don't get why some people think they hate a character, or franchise, when others headcannon. I hope this comment made sense, I just wanted to share my thoughts. You did a great job on this video, and I can't wait to see that infantilazation video! Since I know you'll probably do a great job with it as well. Keep up your great work! >w
THIS EXACTLY!! You’ve worded so well the message I was trying to get across. Headcanons are very personal & their influence on canon iterations are little to none. I will never really understand why headcanons receive the backlash they do 🙁 I’ll be sure to check out your video once it’s uploaded :3 !!!!
I’m on the corporation/creator of the characters perspective whenever they discuss about headcanons Truly, they don’t give a single fuck about what the fans did to the characters, as long as the characters blew up, they won ( if you know what I mean )
The only problem with headcanons is that most people partaking on it are really toxic. I've seen a lot of them attacking artists that draw something that differs from their headcanon, and as of recently an artist deleted everything that she had posted over the years because of that. She endured a lot of hatred over the years, but it seems that she could no longer take it. Things got worse considering that users started to spread rumors and misinformation about her. Sadly the loud majority of people that partake in headcanons are like that. They fight with each other, they harass artists, and then pretend to be the victims when they get the same treatment from people that are tired of them attacking everyone.
I think it really depends on what you consider the “majority,” really! In personal experiences of my own-most artists who project their headcanons or personal pairs ship wise tend to get a lot of backlash from all sides. Especially when that regards racebending headcanons, especially. In recent years the first one I can think of is the jjba kakyoin artist who received immeasurable amounts of negative attention and pulled the characters out of that fandom as a whole and made them original characters. Depending on the spaces, either side can be a majority! The algorithm can be a little strange like that :3 But I can completely understand where you’re coming from!!
@@MerRants When I said "the loud majority" I meant the people that tend to attract the most attention, people that make the most noise/drama out of something they don't like. Perhaps I didn't express it correctly, but I've seen it almost everywhere. Genshin fanart that doesn't please a headcanon harassing the artist, the same with BNHA/MHA fanart, CSM fanart, KNY fanart, etc, and more recently a Hyouka artist who decided to delete everything because of the hatred she was receiving. The mentality that I always see from them is "you're either with my headcanon or against it", they don't seem to acknowledge or accept difference in opinions or taste, which makes me not want to associate with anything that has to do with a fandom. In matters of racebending, I think it's pretty much expected for it to receive hatred, after all the Internet has a high count of racist users. Doesn't make it acceptable, but is something that is prone to happen, more so in the Anime community. Myself as a POC don't really find it appealing when characters get drawn as a different race, or a better way to describe it, "I don't find myself represented". I see it more like "digital cosplay" than anything else. Not really representation if the character isn't inherently of the race it is now being portrayed as. To me, personally, the skin color, nationality or race of a character/person isn't what draws my attention to them, I kind of understand why people would fixate on those things, but at the same time I find it silly. I hear people saying "there's more to a person than the color of their skin", but then online they make it all about the color of someone's skin.
@@4nanaide Most of the hoyo games have absolutely rabid fanbases so I can completely understand what you’re getting at 😭 as a whole fandom etiquette has been on a rapid decline and the lines between canon, implied, and popular headcanon tend to blur a lot!
@@4nanaideHi, as another person of color, I probably will be making a video soon talking about it from the perspective of a POC-Because some times it’s not JUST about the skin tone when it comes to the skin tone change in headcanons. There’s a reason why some people believe characters are “coded” a certain way…
@@thelingeringartist I see, although imo "coded characters" aren't any different from a headcanon. To me it doesn't make much sense, since I know people that grew up in cultures that "aren't theirs", for example black or latino people (as well as white) growing up in Asian countries and thus having traits commonly seen in Asian people, or the most common one; Asian people growing up in The Americas or Europe thus having none of the traits they would commonly have if they grew up in their native countries, and these same individuals, if grown within subcultures in America/EU, would have traits of the place they grew up in. Obviously those cultures and traits "belong" to its natives, but there's literally nothing that stops a non-native from learning as or living as a native. It's not as much of a skin/ethnic thing as it is a societal one. Different cultures think and behave differently, they have their own societal norms and traditions which can be learned, shared, etc. The same applies to "queer coded" people, I have a few friends that are always seen as gay by people that don't know them because "they have queer traits", even though they are straight/cis. In other words, people read too much into things in search of comfort or "representation", almost as if they can't live without seen themselves in what they consume. I don't see how that could be healthy, but since it doesn't really affect me I don't tend to pay much attention to it, although reading or hearing about it always leaves me wondering if people are putting any thought or logic in what they're saying.

I’m just going to try and understand what exactly you mean? Apologies in advance-I’m not the best with wording. I’m not sure where you got the racism part from? Racebending is more of a mixing of cultures in the form of headcanoning (as blackwashing is not a term.) In many cases the characters’ features in question are still very Eurocentric (especially in anime-esque styles). Though they may be Asian, the only indicators of that are usually the cultural clothing. In many cases, the mixed edits and racebending edits reinclude Asian features as well as other ones! But in short, racebending doesn’t usually take away from the original race (as there were no indicators of the race to begin with) and in some cases bring back some aspects! As Asia is a very vast cultural melting pot. Not every Asian is going to be deathly pale, or have slim noses. If this makes sense!! I don’t know if I misunderstood what you were conveying 😞

@@euleletsplay whitewashing (as a definition I’m referring to) is the removal of culture along with the erasure of cultural features in favor of Eurocentric ideals and beauty standards. “Blackwashing” as a term cannot exist because Blackwashing (or darkening of skin as a whole) does not immediately make the character black! In fact a lot of racebending is a lot vaster than that. There’s underlying racism in the idea itself and weaponized counterculture. A common phrase I hear a lot under racebending edits is “why did you make them black” under a tanned variant of a character? Which again-is a racist assumption that every tanned person is black.
