I don't get how fans contact the creators to be rude. I can barely contact my favorite creator to say how much I love their work and be careful not to harm /push themselves. I'll be sweating like a waterfall as I type. I would go insane if my favorite creator responded or liked my comment, I would be that guy in the pink hoodie who got noticed.
This make me so sad. Like, how can someone go out of their way to be rude to some one they don't even know and, on top of that get upset that the creators are setting boundaries. THERE IS NO REASON TO ACT LIKE THIS. It is childish and can and HAS hurt people.
4:02 with welcome home, the creator, Clown, had boundaries that were broken, but even when they tried to set new boundaries, people tried to infantilise him by saying he was hacked (he made the nsfw tag to keep minors and unconsenting eyes safe), which is really gross considering he is autistic, but also a grown adult. Any past boundaries about ships and OCs were from before 2023, prior to welcome home blowing up and becoming what it is known as today. He is now okay with AUs existing (even made his own) and is fine with fan characters. Those are his own boundaries and they need to respected, even if some people dislike them. Unfortunately, there are still people who treat Clown like a child, and there are also still people breaking their boundaries (namely with fan merch) which sucks.
It’s especially bad when the creator is like under age and they will get on harass by random people on the Internet and it’s just like really disappointing and I think it shouldn’t be normalized because the one thing I have noticed about communities lately is they have a tendencies to act really aggressive towards other people or bully other people and it kinda just makes me worried because it’s like I wanna make my own personal project. I wanna make a AU of a game I really like, but I’m too scared to make the AU because I don’t wanna be harassed by random strangers on the Internet, I don’t want my personal information to be leaked and it kinda just makes me afraid like I am a full on scared of producing stuff on my TH-cam channel because I’m scared of people acting weird/aggressive towards me I remember this one person of the Gacha Life 2 community and they were talking really creepy to underage people in the community and I just got so scared of making comments under peoples videos in my opinion these types of stuff shouldn’t be normalized because not only is it hurting people but it’s also making people feel scared to post stuff on the Internet. (Apologies for any spelling mistakes and sorry if this comment was way too long)
I think fans need to understand that the people that work on the projects they enjoy are also people too. On the other hand, people that make these projects need to put in a boundary so fans don’t overstep that boundary. That being said, I was expecting Mer to pull a “erm acktushlly” in the video. 😅
It’s crazy that even when explicit boundaries are set-they’re easily disregarded and broken multiple times 🙁 But I was half expecting the lisp to be more obvious LMAO
THIS!1!1!!1! im a sex repulsed aro/ace person who is working on a small OC project with my best friends and one of my biggest fears is it blowing up in popularity and having my character Syi (who is also aro/ace and isnt interested in platonic relationships unless its found family) become an object of peoples romantic and sexual attraction and having to tell the fandom "hey please don't ship or selfship anyone or anything with Syi she's aro/ace" and then getting hit with the "aro/ace people can feel love too what if its a qpr?" or having people draw nsfw out of spite like im a paranoid person but i have seen this exact scenario play out a CONCERNING amount of times and the way most fandoms treat aro/ace characters really icks me some aro/ace people don't wanna be apart of a qpr especially when its written eerily close to a romantic relationship and people use it as an excuse to ship them anyways
Couldn't have said it better. I had to hide one of my OC worlds from the public after people normalized being inappropriate towards a certain archetype of characters, since they were very personal to me and one was a self-insert too. Even worse the aro/ace erasure in favor of ships or to objectify them.
FRRR like i hate that so much like i understand were they coming from when they say this but (most of the time) you just shouldnt ship a character with anyone when there aro/ace like its just out of respect and also just rude to disrespect a creator when they say you shouldn't ship a character when they aro/ace, like in my opinion i dont ship characters when there aro/ace unless like the creator says its fine. Though just want to add i bet your character is awesome fr
Yes this is so important!!! i think its so weird how people will contact creators specifically to be rude to them/spread hate/cause harm when i get nervous just contacting them to say i like their work😭😭And the Sprunki situation was really crazy to me, as a fan of it, since the creator is FIFTEEN YEARS OLD and was doxxed, hacked, and had their real address and face (and more i believe?) revealed because someone thought their game was cringe. That is so messed up to me. I think that people just need to understand that creators are also people, and they have lives and other things going on beyond their creations! (I especially agree with the parasocial relationship part as well, I feel like a lot of people have problems with that now)
me when i spend 2000 years designing a storyline, fleshing out the characters, putting my heart and soul into every element of the story. Just for my title to become a "trend to like", have people wildly misinterpret my characters and make brainrot content of them doing god knows what, while simultaneously getting skinned alive and burnt at the stake for trying to correct the masses (let alone trying to add a second edition to the title that isn't exactly like the original and doesn't leave my characters static). btw mer, I think you would benefit from a script, as I think it would improve your clarity even if its just jotting down thoughts In notes app
I agree with everything you’ve said. I’ve been in the BSD fandom for god knows how many years, and I was there when it skyrocketed in popularity post-season 4. prior to that, I had seen one rude comment directed towards the author on twitter, and it had maybe 2 or 3 likes, now, however, it seems that whenever he posts something, there’s an influx of negativity - I get being angry about the direction a story is going, but lord, why do so many people feel the need to threaten a man’s life over a manga? it’s unfathomable to me how anyone can think that sending death threats is a reasonable way to get a creator to do something that you want.
As someone who loves creativity and independent creators when I see em, especially since I love and respect Yaelokre's work and recently got into Homicipher, it really-EXTREMELY irritates me when something like this happens. It is like almost everyone forgets we are flawed humans with the same organs and bones; a single creator should not deserve this treatment, and it makes me wonder if any of those types of "fans" would ever learn the consequences of their own actions, like I cannot stand! It almost makes one need to be weary at all times coming to popularity and for any future indie creatives out there towards degenerate and unwanted behaviours, not understanding the heart and soul of a creator towards their own work and it is so disheartening 😡😢
It upsets me how a lot of the fandoms I’m in are so…rude and disrespectful about the projects. I’ve been a welcome home fan for almost 2 years now, it’s one of my main hyperfixations, but it made me loose interest ever since the fandom started making weird art of the characters. I think the main problem came from the AUs…(alternate universes) it started (if I’m correct) with the Rainbow Factory au. They started sexualizing RfWally a LOT. Then it spread to priest, and butcher, and a lot of different aus. Not just Wally, tho, I’ve also seen a lot towards Howdy, and Eddie. It’s really disgusting, and Clown even said they wouldn’t go on with the restoration project if they kept getting sexualized. Cause not only is clown A MINOR, but the characters are supposed to be portrayed as a CHILDREN’S show.
Hye just a correction, since I was in the fandom at the time when the rumor went around. But Clown went to Tumblr to clarify that he wasn't doxxed like the rumor was saying he was and that he was safe and okay!
This will probably be insensitive take, but this has been happening forever just the internet makes it easier to see. Once it’s on the internet or out there then it becomes everyone’s. Yes I get that companies have money, but people bully the creators/actors/writers just as much as the indie creators. They get doxxed, death threats, and much more but since they are “bigger” most people don’t care or they double down. I do feel bad for all the indie creators, however, the internet is know for take whatever content and creating something else with it. You got to expect it at this point especially if the content is appealing to look at or simple to make it more complex. Am I saying creators should lay down and take it? No; but if you are making something and posting it online you got to be prepared for the good AND the bad of it all. That’s why the internet was for mature people or at least people who can separate reality from fiction. A lot of trouble happens because of that since I see more fandom arguments because people treat the fake pixels on a screen like it’s a real, living breathing human being. Listen up everyone: that cartoon character, that anime character, that game character, etc. are not REAL. Stop policing what others can and can’t do by either: scrolling past it, not interacting with it, or blocking it. That character is a fictional character on a screen that you can’t touch. If you can’t see real human beings from fictional ones; go talk to a therapist or friends and get some help alright? This is what’s real wrong with fandoms nowadays.
Genuine question Speaking of parasocial relationships, I’ve seen a plenty people idolizing or defending fictional characters because they find them relatable or whatever Was that a healthy thing? Because I know that parasocial relationships between humans can be dangerous but I don’t know about fictional characters. I used to thought it can be harmful for their own mental state especially if they’re vulnerable but I actually don’t know wether that’s true or not
I don’t see issue with attachment to fictional characters-but there’s a line in the sand to be drawn when it becomes intensified to the point of negative effect. In all: I’d say it’s situational! Usually I see people say “__ did nothing wrong” used more in a joking matter, but when it gets to genuinely excusing actions that real life people *also* make, it becomes a bit of an issue. For the most part though, I don’t think people do it seriously! And there’s only a handful of cases where that attachment gets to that extent.
Could you tell me what that is? I keep seeing it as random lives but whenever I try to see what it is, all it shows is just weird noises with an idle animation like movement, sometimes horror-looking.. and it made it look like spam bc of how little felt like was happening😅 I, afraid if I search it, the same thing will happen last time I searched something where I got constantly harassed by its existence🥲
ship art can be anything ranging from two characters sitting together on a couch to straight nsfw - it is a *wide* genre. while I can understand the aversion to specific types of it, I don’t think that it’s fair to lump millions of art pieces together under one label.
Homicafer?

It is just sad that the majority of people treat minorities as not human....

I was a new Mouthwash fan and I watched the little bit of the full gameplay video and I’m waiting for my favorite streamers CaseOh to play this game..
The some creator is a minor making a mod for the first time only for them to get ruined by brain rot video as well hate
As a creative its very scary ( i want to show a character ( whos a bad guy but im scared to show it because a similar thing happened )
PREACH 🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥
yeah... people can be bloody awful
I don’t get why people go after creators, someone who has gotten some of that myself, mostly of the ableist variety and ngl it really, really sucks.
Hi.
I used to have a parasocial relationship with a fandom before and that’s when I was really struggling. But now I’m better! :3
I just wanna say I didnt do anything problematic like doxing okay! :)
so glad this video was made

I have this gut wrenching hatred for ship art, its an instinct to think that its toxic, I found it out cause of Dandys World
Honestly? As long as it’s with two consenting adults, I don’t mind it all that much! But sometimes shipping can be done detrimentally, for sure.
