a few suggestions friend... use a tack cloth before and after base coating. you probably had too low of pressure at the gun or the air hose isnt thick enough for the right air volume, because there was too much orange peel in your clear. and watch your technique, a constant robotic like overlap and gun movement is key to a good paint job. and as mentioned in previous post silver is a mofo to get right one of the hardest colors after tri coats, because of the mottle effect you get if its not done right. its even harder since our bodyshop changed to waterbased paints. anyways nice vid man keep it up
The thing that really jumped out at me was your set-up. I was trying to prop my bumper up on saw horses and it was too low to get all the edges, etc. Why I didn't think of suspending the bumper cover in my garage I don't know, but I will be sure to use that tip. I've watched a few of your videos, and they are always informative ... thank you.
Also my fathernlaw never wore a mask when he painted and he died at 55 and had a great life being a furniture rep on the side. Had everything In life he never bought anything unless he was buying in bulk. Made $800,000 a year working 4 hours a day and building cars for his collection the rest. Had everything to live for and died from not wearing a mask when he painted. You may know him he is Grumpy from Grumpys garage.
I'm only a hobbiest painter but i have done better work with spraycans, laquer needed reducing a bit and at least 3 coats putting on, sorry to say but this video shows you how not to do it.
Good job bro them bumpers came out perfect I just bought a nice paint sprayer gun I cant wait to use it this is my first time gonna be painting my bumpers on my 07 Accord thanks my guy good video
I haven't painted in 3 years. This was the first vid popped up cuz I wanted to refresh myself. Some things are OK, he says always use the cup filter, (invest in a filter holder, a wire hoop holds the filter over the cup) wipe/prep the surface, but others whew!... I learned from pros with 30yrs experience, they don't eyeball mixing paint, they use the measured containers every time to the milliliter. The way he was handling the gun, like spot finishing, you have to sweep in big broad confident strokes like Michelangelo. Pull the trigger before you enter the surface and don't let go till you pass it! Plus final tip, he didn't use adhesion promoter, its an extra step but might've helped with the orange peel. I don't use it, I buy cleaner from my local auto body shop supplier and just super scrub the surface but for noobs use the adhesion promoter. BTW some guys I know don't mind painting base coat sloppy (like here) and spend hours smoothing it before the clear coat, then it looks like glass. But I paint the base looking like glass, then hit it with the clear looking like glass too. Depends on how lazy you are, I don't like sanding and smoothing forever. If you don't have a gun, get the big, older made-in-USA Binks in good condition. These deliver paint to surface beautifully.
I liked the video as a non pro willing to paint my bumper this video is a good starting for me , just i would like to know what psi do you use for the gun
fernando Martin not true. There are some great DYI videos out there that are great. The person will clearly show that they at least did some research on the proper process to prep and paint. This guy did a terrible job. The finish was horrendous, massive orange peel, there was a sag on the bottom right hand side, he's eye balling clear, his gun set up is way off, he didn't even scuff up the rear bumper, and he's only applying one coat of clear lol.. again, tons of great videos out there but this isn't one of them.
how come you say this is pro?? too much to improve on your technique. your base coat is too thick, add some thinner. 2. use the mixing cup to precisely measure the clear ratio. 3. check your paint overlapping. 4. setting your gun fan and use the correct psi while spraying the clear coat. 5. add some reducer about 10-20% according the manufacture for the better flow and avoid the orange peel. 6. don't touch the surface with your bare hand as it contain oil. even amateur do it far better. hope no one ever follow his style.
Open the fan in your gun. And hey, no matter what people write, there are always dudes, who are mean. Obviously they can do nothing themseves..! Let them write. You have done very good jobs, as now! Keep going my friend! You are brave, and doing just fine work! I have learned a lot from you. Thank you mate! ☺👍👍
If you paint, don't start with black like I did... I'd imagine silver or white would be the easiest for a beginner. If I ever paint a car again I do know some more stuff than I did before. But patience would be the biggest thing I'd have to work on.
back shows everything. White hides most imperfections. However, If you do base coat clear coat white it is very hard to see while painting. You are right silver is very easy to paint and and it hides imperfections very good.
dannyayo Very true silver is not easy for rookies this "pro" doesn't know what he's talking about and judging by the way he paints he would ruin a whole job if he ever decided to paint with silver ........NO no no solid colors like black or RED basically solid colors can be painted by babies and no one would be able to tell they are the easiest and perfect for newbies
think it might be those solvent infused wipes he used, not sure you should use solvent on epoxy primed bumpers. Should use anti static wipes for a better result
Ok, so on a 4 door sedan I am wanting paint front rear bumpers, both front fenders, hood, trunk lid, 4 doors including mirror covers. How many gallons/ounces of paint and clear coat and how many layers of color and of clear coat?
I came to get some tips on painting a couple of bumper covers. I can tel this is NOT how a pro would do it. Did anyone notice the 2 cans of activator for the top coat were not the same?
Thanks for making the video for us , but please change the tittle , I'm no professional but I can see many things done wrong ... than you are doing a job for a luxury vehicle it needs to be the closest to the perfection... now if your customers are cheap asses that like luxuries than that's a perfect job for them...
Question! You did an amazing job! I wanted to know more on if you were asked to provide an even smoother paint finish with no orange peel or waviness to the paint. Would compound and polish be the key or something else?
My dear i like your spray gun and work is also too good but i am not satisfied with your pressure of matlic paint plz make it little slow pressure and than see the result
Seriously go study the correct paint gun technique before making a video like this. Nobody I know would paint in such small passes. Your film build up will be too inconsistent. No gloves; pickle jars and eye balling mixing ratios for clear- seriously?
why did you say paint like a pro This is not how pros paint for one you touched the surface with your hand with no gloves number two you guess at how much clear to mix you did not measure your clear, and then on top of that you are mixing a pickle jar or Jam jar or something. Come on man, That is not what pros do. This should be a video on what not to do.
foxybrown2 1st off. It is a Friggn Bumper. U couldn’t afford the paint let alone have drips all over ! Stick with your plastic Dip and watch it peel off when your 88 Corolla does over 40mph.
interesting points ,if anyone else trying to find out car spray painting tutorial try Jaffacter Paint Sprayer Coach (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my buddy got great results with it.
This guy wouldn't know what orange peel was if it slapped him upside the head. That's not a bad job if you're trying to match OEM quality, but to say it was "almost no orange peel" is a lie. Look at how distorted reflections are. Throw another coat of clear on and wetsand it, then you'll know what no orange peel looks like.
I've watch many of your videos and you guys and haven't steered me wrong yet until I used the paint company that you all use. Automotive Touch-up is unprofessional and send incorrect paint colors and tries their very best not to refund you. In my opinion I don't think you guys should suggest them to your watchers.
What hurts me worst than getting my car scratch and bumper broken, is seeing that my ex bf that did it, has this same Damn scion in the Intro! 🥴🥴🥴 hate that car! Lol
Must be a Joke video... Don't know if its my internet connection but the whole video was crystal clear until the end, when they showed the bumper in the outside light. Was so grainy couldn't see anything... So convenient!
I wouldn't bring my car to your shop. In the final product, the paint looks like small pixels and has a water drop look. The paint should look smooth, not rough.
No thats not how u paint a bumper . I paint bumpers for a living. First of all you need a smaller gun like a sata mini jet with a 1.2 tip unless your doing a big panel. And you never just wipe it down and paint over old paint, IT WILL PEAL! you must take the surface down with a 400 grit sandpaper. And 180 grit for damage, and all damage must be primed a d scratched to a finish with 800 grit. The you reduce your paint and start with light dust coats to ensure adhesion, and you must tack the bumper down between each coat of basecoat with a tack cloth, then you can clear the car, this guy sprays very odly
I'm not a painter, but I know good prep is 90% of the job and end result. I was wondering why he didn't rub it back first, but hey... not my car, not my problem.
WOW! That is probably the worst paint job that "looks great" that I have seen so far... Thank god that is not my car otherwise you would be spending some money from your own pocket to get it painted properly....
I could see that looking great after polishing it. That didn't turn out too bad. Still better than a rattle can spray job. It can be buffed down a bit.
OMG there's no way this guy has ever painted before. Between his gun technique and the size of his air line and the way he's touching the bumper, it's obvious he doesn't know what he's doing at all! Is that Sasha Baron Cohen? I feel like I'm being punked!

To anyone watching this make sure you remove the tow hole cover to avoid damage to your paintwork when the car needs towed

I'm only a hobbiest painter but i have done better work with spraycans, laquer needed reducing a bit and at least 3 coats putting on, sorry to say but this video shows you how not to do it.
nice job, it looked great without even color or wet sanding, well done!
Good job bro them bumpers came out perfect I just bought a nice paint sprayer gun I cant wait to use it this is my first time gonna be painting my bumpers on my 07 Accord thanks my guy good video
Is it me or did anyone else the a crap load of imperfections on that paint when it was done?
You have to buff the paint out more when you don't paint in a paint booth because of all the particles that get on it.
I haven't painted in 3 years. This was the first vid popped up cuz I wanted to refresh myself. no need to do a final wet sand or anything? just a clear coat and its a finalized product? looked pretty good!
No matter how good or bad the vid is, pros always will hate this type of videos..

.
He said zero orange peel...there was literally orange peel everywhere lol
there's better info out there. This is not a good video
Nice video. So no sanding between coats of color and/or after the clearcoat?
how come you say this is pro?? too much to improve on your technique. your base coat is too thick, add some thinner. 2. use the mixing cup to precisely measure the clear ratio. 3. check your paint overlapping. 4. setting your gun fan and use the correct psi while spraying the clear coat. 5. add some reducer about 10-20% according the manufacture for the better flow and avoid the orange peel. 6. don't touch the surface with your bare hand as it contain oil. even amateur do it far better. hope no one ever follow his style.
Don’t see u making a video hater !!
@@dudamage8241 He doesn't need to. The comment was more informative than this video
@@thenegus5469 lol how would you know ?? All Monday morning quarterbacks here . You believe everything you read apparently lol
@@dudamage8241 you can’t say this is the pro way of doing it when an amateur can spot 6 mistakes that were made
@Syafiee Sedik he said “like a pro,” “Like.” Not the pro way of doing it.
Thanks for making this video you guys are always so positive
You didn't sand the primed bumper I'm surprised wouldn't you want the paint to stick
Some bumpers come pre primed
I use the same mixing paint company. They do amazing paint match for resprays blends
Do you still have to use reducer and activator?
isidro martinez yes. Two part systems require it
what kind (type)of paint and thinner for plastic bumpers?
I love automotive touch up they do amazing color matching
Excellent tutorial. Really covered key points
wrong video title...this is:
how to paint NOT like a pro!
Which one of the small bottles would I need? Both

how many psi the compressor should be , and what size tip for the gun? 14 or 20?
✔️Bro !! that looks amazing and fun !!! i would be drinking a beer in the process !! 🍻. great video
No flex or bonding agent for plastic bumpers? The first time someone touches that bumper it will crack and peel.
Hi bro, are you only paint base coat and clear coat to paint a bumper? and how many time base coat and clear coat? any idea to help me to be PRO!!!
Where are you located at which city and state ?

Zero Orangepeel you said??... Dude... are you blind? This is the worst paint result i`ve even seen...
He thinks he is in Israel 🤣
need to wet sand that shit
Yeah there's a ton of air bubbles in there lol
hahaha i was just thinking that, if you can see it in the video it must be fucked in real life.
think it might be those solvent infused wipes he used, not sure you should use solvent on epoxy primed bumpers. Should use anti static wipes for a better result
How long did you wait until you shoot the clear
Ok, so on a 4 door sedan I am wanting paint front rear bumpers, both front fenders, hood, trunk lid, 4 doors including mirror covers.
How many gallons/ounces of paint and clear coat and how many layers of color and of clear coat?
what sort of paint do we need to use for bumpers?????pls
But what if you don't have air compressor? Can I just use spray paint cans?
Good job man
Bumper is the most hated part for me to paint it because it is too darn large and it takes a lot of money to spend on...
You did very good job
Did you use a plastic adhesion promoter?paint wont adhere without it.this is not pro.this is beginner level.
Plastic adhesion promoter is used before primer. ..
Where are you located i need a bumper painted✅
I came to get some tips on painting a couple of bumper covers. I can tel this is NOT how a pro would do it. Did anyone notice the 2 cans of activator for the top coat were not the same?
So, what are the specs on the gone, air and gauges you are using?

Jaka to marka pistoletu ?
Question! You did an amazing job! I wanted to know more on if you were asked to provide an even smoother paint finish with no orange peel or waviness to the paint. Would compound and polish be the key or something else?
Needs to lay the clear on a lot heavier. Then it lays down smooth with minimal peel.
Arent you supposed to paint anything top to bottom?
My dear i like your spray gun and work is also too good but i am not satisfied with your pressure of matlic paint plz make it little slow pressure and than see the result

you forgot to wetsand, then finally polish
just smile as a pro painter ~

Looks good at first but you have a lot of orangepeel going on there at the end. Idunno
Good but you shouldn't swing your hand while spraying...steady does it
I think you better stick with wrenching haha
I use them tack cloths to wipe in rare occasions that I have to shit at a gas station and cant get a shower afterwards. Sweet product
I don't even paint and these guys did terrible job jesus
Decent body shop charges $200 here to repaint a bumper....$1000??
Almost zero orange peel? Do we see different things
In the next view please say "I must break you"!
I laughed WAY too hard at this hahaha

Can't understand the audio at all.
i dont care about orange peel from this dude coz i have seen the new mazdas with orange peel on the front fenders near the A pillar lmao
This is horrible 😂
maybe bc its not fully finished? you gotta let the paint cure then polish it.

It doesn't look smooth...looks like a spray can job...
I'll just take it to a bodyshop. they don't charge 1000 bucks for the front bumper dude. for 300~400, they do a really good job
Paint like a what???
