Bro i have to say this is one of the best videos out there on the internet. Clear, straight to the point, very very easy to follow and i did NOT get bored the entire video!!! Thanks man, respect from London, UK!!
All depends on how well pre-primed it is. Most of these are aftermarket bumper covers and the coating is of questionable quality. When you are doing so much work already, you certainly don’t want to see peeling and chipping a couple of months later. Best to scuff, re-prime and then paint.
I say yes. Youll for sure need to wet sand it for smoothing, chances are very high that the primer is very thin and youll sand right through it. I relied on the preprimed surface on a bumper cover for a toyota corolla, paint flaked off after a few months😢
Hektor, only YOU can make a paint job with a can look like it was done in a professional body shop. Man, wish i had your experience on stuff like this. I tried on my bumper to do a tear down and minimal body fill and never made it to paint as I just couldn't get it to look right...Now i know why so see so many cars in primer and filler...LOL keep up the awesome videos from the 2nd best East Coast MA.
Just as a heads up, the Duplicolor 1k Clear has a really tough time giving the *deep* shine many look for; Spray Max 2K Clear has been used over Duplicolor and gives a really nice shine especially for a spray can. I'm going to be trying this type of project here in just a couple of weeks.
I used to work in a body shop. Just got a used bumper for my Monte Carlo. Going to start on it next weekend. I was wondering about how rattle can would turn out. I was just looking up paint. Watched your video and very good job. I've got a little more work to fix some gouges and stuff but easily doable for me. Not bragging. I'm not going to pay when i can do it myself. Plus I really like body work and fixing shit myself. Great job again
I'm getting ready to do the top half of my Ford ranger bumper, I'm sanding down the wrinkled finish first. Thanks for this video, it's very instructional.
good work, our daily cheap car could use that treatment when i replace the cracked bumper. It's not worth taking to a shop, but half a days work on a saturday? sure.
Duplicolor paint is fine, but don't use the Duplicolor clear or the Rustoleum primer. The spray patterns are awful. The Rustoleum primer gives you stripes because of that small cone spray pattern. I made that mistake and will never use it again. Spend the money and use SEM primer and SprayMax 2K clear. The fan patterns on those are phenomenal. Just get a good paint respirator meant for organic vapors when spraying with 2K clear, and cover as much skin as possible and wear goggles. Keep the filter in a sealed ziploc bag and replace them after 8 hours of use.
Can you tell what type of SEM primer to use? There are this options : 1. SEM 39683 Self Etching Primer 2. SEM 39133 Flexible Primer Surfacer 3. SEM 42013 High Build Acrylic Primer And so on, so what type i should use for plastic bumper? I'll use 040 Super White II color paint for toyota camry. Thanks in advance!
I saw this video about a year ago before painting an OEM Toyota bumper, and wanted to mention that the Duplicolor I used to match the Super White on my daughter's 2013 Corolla did NOT match very well. I also had terrible problems with splattering out of the can nozzles. The paint application looked OK, but clearly did not match the car. I used Eastwood 2K clear which went on well, but it started peeling about eight months later😢.
When painting stuff the color will never match the rest of the car perfectly unless it's a new car a cpl yrs old. A car sits outside in the sun all it's life, fading the paint that comes on it which is why new paint won't match perfectly. Was it a brand new bumper?... Did you clean the bumper? Watd you use? And what kind of adhesion promoter did you use? & what kind of primer. When using spray cans make sure you have a rag to clean off the nozzle so paint won't dry and cause spatters. Also put the cans in hot water for about 10 15 min before use. That makes the cans under more pressure and let's it spray way better cause there's more pressure to push the paint out!
awesome vid!! really like your channel. One thing that might help is that you can rotate the little nozzle 90 deg on many spray cans to change the spray orientation from horizontal to vertical.
To be honest that depends on you. I think prepping takes a whole day, then the next day you can start in the morning till evening. Then u gotta dry it up for 24 hours. So it takes 3 days total.
this is exactly the vid I was looking for. I have some damage to my lower bumper cover and all i need to do is replace that. Its a small part compared to the rest of the bumper cover. Since I'm not doing much painting to it, I didn't want to buy all that other gear just for such a small part. This video is perfect for what I need to do.
The reviews for that clear coat are not good at all. For the price it costs, might as well get the 2k Spray Max brand gloss which gives a pro paint shop gloss, has a wider spray pattern and dries quicker.
Sure and the paint and you're going to need a pretty big air compressor to make enough PSI to use a professional spray gun. Have you priced a spray gun and compressor?? And hoses and solvent to clean it when your done? He just showed you can get very good results for under 100 bucks .

Agreed! 👍🏽
What brand is the scruff pad
Thank you, I enjoyed this video. Will try on my jeep bumper!
I am impressed! Looks good. If anybody sees any imperfections. They we’re standing to close anyway ! Lol
Thanks , this is the first video after 1000 searches that is exactly what I was looking for ! Thanks once again
I followed your steps and my bumper came out looking factory painted , thanks
Do you have to put more primer even if the bumper comes pre primed?
Good question bad thing he didnt reply because i needed to know now

@shankarh6915 I ordered a cheap bumper and I could pick the primour off with my fingernail on arrival

Hey homie.... how about when you are painting... give us an approximately how many cans you use in your videos.
I am using your advice. Great videos
Just a suggestion.. before you wet sand primer hit it with a light guide coat . Just dust it with any black paint.itll show up any imperfections 👍

Also has a waaaaaay better spray pattern that makes it easy to overlap and faster coverage.
How many cans of clear coat?
Can’t a buffer be used to shine it up like a mirror?

Great commentating, good example, right to the point good video
Thanks for posting this great video. Just what I needed.

Thank you homie Hector. I know feel comfortable painting my front bumper
Thanks for the video. im looking to do this here soon.
Great video, thanks. Doing my bumper now.
Awesome job.... Thanks for the brilliant tips!
good work, our daily cheap car could use that treatment when i replace the cracked bumper. It's not worth taking to a shop, but half a days work on a saturday? sure.
Great Job! Better than I Could've done. But I Learnt Something New too..... Also, It helps to warm the rattle can a little bit before spraying.
Always killin' it with every chingadera!!
Hektor, don't we need SEALER for to prevent cracks & etc , and make bumper more durable? Which brand & type of SEALER would you recommend?

I liked how it came out.
If the seller says it's primed does that mean you can skip the first step? Or should you not trust them?
💥I NEED TO DO THIS😁NICE WORK👌

Homie!
Great video!
A problem I have with rattle cans is coverage. Starts getting expensive to do a bumper correctly when each can is $12 or so...
Think 500$ for 1 bumper vs 200$ spray can
@@philippesilva2275 i spent 130$ to fix and repaint my old bumper compared to $460 for a new painted one
Turned out great!!!!
Your the man Hektor!
awesome vid!! really like your channel. One thing that might help is that you can rotate the little nozzle 90 deg on many spray cans to change the spray orientation from horizontal to vertical.
How many cans did you use?
Homie you should do a car detailing video.
Nice results! Thank you for this helpful vid!
How many cans of base and clear coat for that bumper ?
Thanks
No, it’s not bad for a rattle can job. Yes! really narrow fan spray.
Thank you!!
I have a used plastic bumper that I want to paint a dark blue. The used bumper is a lighter blue. What do I have to do differently to paint it?
How many cans of base coat do you need for a bumper for a Honda Civic?
Not bad for a vato loco from the varrio 😎
Looks good homie nice work
Did you not use flexible primer?
Exellent job bro, looks oem
how many cans of paint did you use for this whole job?
Should he have used sealer primer?
so how do you know if its scuffed up enough to start putting primer
Great vid 👍
What was he spraying for the wet sanding?
water
Nice job. How long did the whole process take you from start to finish?

Nice one, bro.
What was the total estimated time it took to paint the bumper?
Awesome! So you only need 2 16oz paint spray cans?
Thank you!!😘😘🙌
Can this be done with plasi dip?

How many cans of paint did you use?
How many cans of clear did your bumper take?
Hektor nunca falla
Nice job
The amount of overspray that stuck to that car outside the garage....
thank you sir ✌️✌️✌️
Can I just come to Pomona and pay you to do it? I just bought a new used car today and I would love a funky bumper.
Hey hektor,,donde puedo conseguir la pintura que sea idéntica a mi carro
Puedes conseguir los botes por Amazon, o en un autopartes como Oreilly’s 🍀
Great video brother! 1-10 it's a 12...
Let your paint can set in warm water to help it spray better
Do you mind if I do a reaction on this video on my platform❓
Not at all, go for it 👍🏼
The reviews for that clear coat are not good at all. For the price it costs, might as well get the 2k Spray Max brand gloss which gives a pro paint shop gloss, has a wider spray pattern and dries quicker.
Do you live in Pomona hector
Yeah 👍🏼
U and bedistinct sound just alike
sadly the colour isnt spot on like Hector said. When you look it. Tho pretty good job with the rattle cans. Keep up the vids!
Funny it’s not the same colour as the car 😂😂😂😂
Fuck duplicolor@ I bought two primer cans. One ran out of air when only about 10% of paint was sprayed. The other one leaked all over the place...
What I'm getting from this is that spray can painting SUCKS and you should just use a spray gun
Sure and the paint and you're going to need a pretty big air compressor to make enough PSI to use a professional spray gun. Have you priced a spray gun and compressor?? And hoses and solvent to clean it when your done? He just showed you can get very good results for under 100 bucks .
aboslute trash clear coat wouldnt use this
