I was living in England in 1974 and I didn't have a TV licence. I received a letter from TV licencing saying they were aware that I had a television, but if I paid the licence fee within a certain period no further action would be taken. In those days there was no way they could know for certain if you had a TV or not and the letter was probably all bluff. I did have a small black and white portable TV that I hardly ever watched, so I just paid the fee. Had I known then what I know now I would have probably just ignored the letter.

Not knowing any better I invited him into my house. However, I have to be honest, this guy was sound. He declined my invite and said “No, I don’t think there’s any need for me to do that”. He thanked me for my time and left. Never had a visit since. Still don’t have a licence. I still get emails every couple of years asking me to confirm I still don’t need one.

Absolutely spot-on video! It's ludicrous how the system criminalizes ordinary folks struggling with life's burdens. And about the BBC's iPlayer - it's eerie how they can tell if you're using it. Like, are we living in a surveillance state now? The whole TV license scenario feels like a dystopian plot where you get punished for not paying up, regardless of your circumstances. It's time for a change. People should have the freedom to choose without fear of being hounded or shamed. Keep speaking the truth!

    TOP TIPS:
If you get someone you don't know come to your door...then ignore it! I have for years and watch with glee when neigbours open the door to Jehovah's Witnesses or Door to door salesmen or Charity muggers .
If you are expecting a parcel , you can usually clearly see they are delivering something and usually come in a marked van or have a company uniform . The likes of EVRI usually have the same drivers doing the same routes so are easily recognisable .
If a TV Goon turns up to your house with the police then
DO NOT answer the door ,
DO NOT go to your door ... No matter how much the police insist you have to come to the door and open it
DO NOT engage with them, regardless of threats .
DO NOT give ANY details , They DONT know your name so you cannot be charged with hindering .
DO NOT Leave anything like bills or letters with your name on in public view
DO remove yourself from view (ideally you will have spotted them as they approach the property first)
DO Keep ALL doors and ground floor windows locked and keys out of the door and out of view (its just good security anyway)
DO have some form of privacy screening I.E full length net curtains ,cover over the inner letterbox to stop letterbox snooping etc.
If you don't 'Appear' to be in then they will go . HOWEVER, I do believe they are entitled to come back with the same warrant and a Police officer at a later date BUT that warrant is only valid for a limited period of time . If the goon manages to confront you even with the warrant then they cannot legally execute such a warrant without a police officer present.
The role of the Police Officer:
Their role is as a "peace keeper" to observe and to ensure no breech of the peace has been committed . They are NOT there to assist or force entry .
If you happen to get caught with the police and a goon and you think a police officer is over stepping their remit then POLITELY but FIRMLY REMIND them of their role , tell them to go check with their superiors before THEY break the law.
I stand to be corrected on any of the above information .

      @chrisbamborough222 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Yes I wrote something similar a while ago. I also believe in the case of a Warrant the BBC guide to their enforcement says that forced entry is not to be attempted and as you say Warrant time is limited. The Warrant is sworn for execution by the enforcement officer not the Police. As it is not an arrest warrant where power of entry would be attached but a search Warrant it's not in the Police remit to assist. So as you say ignore they will go away if they think you're out. They don't have to have the Police present but they always will. The comment about obstructions is valid but that wouldn't apply if you don't make your presence known.

Using a Ring video doorbell can be a practical solution in the context of TV licensing enforcement officers. It offers several benefits:
Security and Monitoring: You can see who is at the door without opening it. This is especially useful if you're wary of unexpected visitors like TV license enforcement officers.
Record Keeping: Ring doorbells to record footage so you have a record of who visited and when. This can be valuable evidence if there's a dispute or you need to prove you didn't engage in a conversation with them.
Remote Interaction: You can interact with visitors via your smartphone, allowing you to respond without confrontation. You can tell the officer you're uninterested without opening the door.
Deterrent Effect: The presence of a camera often deters people from engaging in questionable behaviour. Knowing they're being recorded may discourage TV license officers from insisting on a conversation or using aggressive tactics.
