Fantastic VFR video. I love watching the Captain hand fly his airplane in. A great turboprop built right in Canada, where I live. Who would have thought that the Dash 8 - 100 would eventually stretch and end up a Q - 400. One of the Q 400's selling features is that it is very economical to fly, using much less fuel than a similar sized jet aircraft. Oh, and quiet, too. A Canadian aviation success story.
@@LexClement19 I watched many fly into Toronto's City Centre airport, and they did seem quieter than most. I might be a bit mixed up with the Bombardier CS 100 (now the Airbus 220) It is a really quiet jet that Porter Airlines wanted to fly out of the same airport, except the urban hipsters, in their condos didn't want any jets flying around ! So they use the Q 400
The Dash-8 has a distinctive whistle to its engines. I can always tell her apart from a King Air, Saab 340, Emb-120, Jetstream 31, Shorts 330/360, ATR-42/72, Fairchild Metro, Dornier 328, by sound. You name it, bruh!
I sentiment all you say, except for the quiet. They are very noisy and some have extra noise when taxiing. Like a whirring/buzzing noise. It''s very loud.
It's always a pleasure watching professionals being exactly that; professional. Many lessons for pilots' of all ages and experience but of real significance - note the use of checklists. That's what the professionals do.
First time I have ever seen the First officer Clap on landing.... normally just passengers and not on all airlines. Would have liked more engine and cockpit noise and communications from ATC. But great no silly music added. Thanks for sharing. I am now subscribed for more.
Thoroughly enjoyed this footage and a joy to watch... Crystal clear, simple, enough detail to inform without confusing non pilots and loved the "F1" taxi to the remote stand.. Just superb....
Spkier flaps 35 on the Q400 is challenging considering it has a far different approach as compared to flaps 15. Really different power setting and pitch to flare attitude. Not even the most experienced captain could land a perfect landing consistently. Tho for me it is a fun plane to fly, makes a heck of a pilot out of you.
@@CraZy291 add lots of power towards the end of the landing phase. Don't reduce power below 10% Torque or it will fall out of the sky due to reduction in lift created by the huge 13ft diameter prop. I find 15% (flap 15) works well for most weights. VREF + circa 5 kts and placing one wheel down before the other helps to get the "grease-er" The undercarriage is so long even a decent landing is like landing a shopping trolley with dodgy wheels. For a flap 35 landing approach with around 25% torque then reduce to 15% as you come over the threshold, this works fairly well too. Not sure how well sims replicate this but that's my take on the real aircraft.
Great video! I got about 2000 hrs on the Dash 8-100/300, but never the Q. With this COVID stuff, reducing frequencies and so on, I may end up on the Q. The Classic schedule was much better for me, as I got to spend a lot of time in my home city, in my own bed, instead of sleeping in hotels. The Q is a cool looking plane. I like it a lot.
... this is one of the best shots I've ever seen, I adore aviation, and the cockpit is for me like admiring the body of a naked woman ... beautiful !! , the location of the cameras was correct, I congratulate you, a hug and ... (what envy)
Isn't this just the best aircraft in the world.?my mother is traveling from lusaka Zambia to Johannesburg south Africa tomorrow on one of these.want to see what she will be experiencing
Thank you for a nice clip. 1. Q400 is by far the most demanding turboprop airplane to land- slightest X-winds or gusts tests you to the limits. 2. One of the very few airplanes to require powerON landing. 3. Aerodynamics of 15deg and 35deg are crazily different. 4. Some doubts- why ask for check list with flaps at 5? 5. What’s the hurry to complete after landing checks before carefully vacating active? 6. Very nice approach, good engine handling. Happy landings guys.
Was the right hand 1st Officer on a promise after this flight? The speed he shut down and flicked all the switches after touch down, looks like he wanted to get away very fast to see his girlfriend.....
Q - Specific to Dash 8, I notice second engine shut down immediately, is that protocol on comm prop? If so, wouldn't other comm JETS do the same in their after landing checklists to conserve fuel?? I'm sure that's been thought of as it would save airlines tons of $!! Those w knowledge please opine. TY! Agree to the other comment - raw footage = awesome, clap was cool too from First too! Love it - thank you!
Hi, It is done not only on Q400's but Boeings as well. And yes it saves fuel. Depending on aircraft type & config 3-10 kgs per minute. May not sound a lot, however when done on every flight it creates significant savings.
Not quite. If you press the reduced NP landing button, as he did, it stays at 850 despite moving the condition levers to 1020. However, when you press the TOGA button on the throttles for a go-around, it increases to 1020. This is a popular technique to allow landing/approach to take place at 850, but yet keeping 1020 available for go-around by just pressing TOGA.
Very skilled pilot..even his first officer gave him an applause for a super landing..!! Thanks for sharing..!!

Johnny Beretta it’s not really quiet. I fly with the dash 8 400 all the time.
Alexis Jim Clemente it’s a lot quieter in cabin than other similar turboprop aircraft like the ATR-72 or even older Dash-8 models though.

The visibility out of the Q400 cockpit is amazing
Gosh.... look at that YOUNG pilot! He's a real PRO!
Great video, good views, well done....I don't think I have ever seen the FO applaud on landing before.

9:54 the first officer clapped hands and the captain take a look and smile 😊 it’s cool 😎
hahahahaha

Nailed it, fantastic landing, perfectly on the blocks 👌
Felt really validated seeing this guy trim like a maniac. Thought my FSX was glitching out.
What a smooth on point landing! Good job!
4:27 wtf man lolol
Beautiful! Just beautiful. My favourite aircraft by far. Nice landing. Thanks for sharing!
Great presentation and a great landing!!
Two cool pilots, great flying.
This thing seems like a chore to fly lol. Just from seeing this video and using the majestic q400, very hands on aircraft.
Anthony Polomaine Huge chore. Highly recommend against it.
@@rahstamon19 Definitely. Especially as single pilot.
Dash-8 is amazing aircraft. Greeting from Russia!
Nice landing, the dash is beast and it takes skill to land her smoothly
@@UlrikBrun-ir7mh Sounds like you've never flown it.

Wouldn't be calling that a smooth landing... But for a smash 8, it was a good one.
even in Microsoft Flight Simulator, very difficult to land

The Dash 8 is a great plane. It's a little noisy for passengers but a very dependable aircraft. I never hesitate to fly in one.
That hum is soothing though.
Funny, I thought, not much communication between pilot and first officer, finally realized, you just can't hear them. Great video.
Great film !! Great professional pilots.
And the Q400 clearly seems good ship .

This Dash 8 is too small for you already! Beautiful video.

...Very nicely videoed and presented. Thank you for sharing...
Very nice , Rain sound like stones
This is breathtaking.
A pleasure to watch. Thank you! Well done

Very quiet airliner. Alaska/Horizon has a lot of them.
good job Air Baltic crew :) and fly safe :)
Excellent video !
Such a certified beauty!
Very nice landing and video
what if the autopilot and navigational equipment mulfunction? can the pilot able to find the route and navigate the plane until landing safely?
Beautiful Lithuanian countryside coming in.
Unusual to see the captain lean forward so much to activate switches, as if he was sitting too far back (?)
Did I see no two give him a little clap on landing,ha ha great vid.
Noob 😁
Mashruz bruh
First officer cockpit ninja.....! Slow down, it’s not a race
Ha ha,hope you guys have a great new year.
Muy buen trabajo.

Awesome video
Well done! Great video!
Buttered that landing 😁
The best visual
Great landing.

Ok
Le pilote à accroché la manette des gaz à 4:26 lol
@IEnglish 96he acidently hit it and throttled up but he put it back down

Great video 👌🏼
What does the Captain click with his left thumb at very frequent intervals?
Flying-Experience electric trim. Takes the back / front pressure off the yoke.
What aircraft are these pilots flying now? Air Baltic left down the q400
Pouso perfeito...Parabéns ao comandante.
They should put the heading button on the stick.
Very Professional pilots there...👏👏
Know how to handle his Airplane😀
nice video and very good landing :)

日本の航空会社もそうなのかな?
Nice video
It looks like a gorgeous country. Let us hope Russia does not mess it up.
Greased that in. Stiff-legged Q400 is not the easiest plane to get smooth landings out of.
Nice landing!
Good job
Good job!
What country are they flying into anyway ??
landing with CL at 850???
What's the Ramp Speed Limit, V1?
What a restless pilot, you don't see that so often...
✌wonderful landing.
Did anyone realized how the stand-by ADI was going on and off? Is it because of the camera frame rate?
iskoos yes. Rolling shutter effect
Uuuum his is so skillful.
Good view..
Nice job ;P
Idk why but when AP is disconnected the flight becomes shaky
Butter
Why did they cut off the engine 1 on taxi? I never ever saw this before
saves fuel and they can quicker unboard the plane. Since the passengers exit on the left where the prop is.
Phenomenal.
