Adventure of a Lifetime | My Transatlantic Journey is Complete | Episode 15
On this episode we depart from rainy Ålesund Norway and head towards Sweden looking for gaps in the weather. After spending a night in the tranquil Swedish countryside near Orebro, we head back to Finland to visit Mariehamn in the Aland archipelago, and then onwards to Hyvinkää, just north of Helsinki, where a relative has invited me to come visit before I head for home. And on the final day of the journey we head south to the Estonian island of Hiiumaa, where we make a quick stop at Kärdla airport, followed by the final leg of the trip to Vilnius Lithuania.
In this video series I hope to offer a glimpse into the challenges of preparing and actually flying across the Atlantic ocean, navigating over the remote northern landscapes and vast stretches of water, and experiencing breathtaking views that only a small plane can offer. Join me as I share insights into the planning and execution of this flight, including the joys and challenges faced along the way. Whether you're a seasoned pilot, an aviation enthusiast, or someone who dreams of adventure, this video series offers something for everyone. I hope you enjoy this journey as much as I did.

    Thanks for the nostalgic re-visit. While flight training at Oshawa (CYOO) in 1986, I flew into/outoff Greenbank on several occasions as my Instructor used it for short-field/grass landings practice. A week after passing my Flight Test in July 1987, I took a friend as my first passenger in C-150 (CF-XSE) and had to make a precausionary landing at Greenbank due to high oil temperature (result of an aging guage). That fall, as part of the Toronto Flying Club we flew out of the island airport for a short period of time.

      61. The range is plenty. I think even with 50 gal the legs that I did would be doable.

    Except the expensive landing fee, and now there’s a notam denying entry into their control zone for non commercial non scheduled flights for the whole summer. unless your based out of there.

    • @lenmetallica
      @lenmetallica 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The NOTAM for the summer just says you need a PPR for sightseeing and VFR flights. They activate additional NOTAMs to deny various other flights for the day depending on expected traffic and staffing constraints. So depending on the day, you may be able to transit through.

    This series has been my favourite aviation TH-cam videos. The beautiful scenes, background information about places visited, snippets of ATC, decision making process - all really well put together, with appropriate subtle music. I've loved experiencing the journey - one I'd love to do myself, but am unlikely to have the opportunity. Thanks so much for sharing.

    What a tremendous job you did sharing this incredible journey! I am very impressed with how you dealt with all the challenges of weather, the varying quality of services at the different airports while capturing exquisite video of so many places so many of us would never otherwise see. I can’t imagine how you juggled the data cards and kept the batteries charged for the different GoPros. A wonderful, positive depiction of what General Aviation can do. Excellent job!

    Thanks for a great series! Enjoyed every episode 😀. In 1999 I took my Comanche 260C from my now home in Calgary Alberta to my birthplace in London England and on to Marseille France and back. My family flew to Europe commercially where we met up and travelled around for a month before I flew C-GMRC home. No TH-cam or video in those days but I have a great collection of still photos from a first generation digital camera…a whopping 1 mega pixel 😀. Your series let me revisit a number of my stops and a whole lot more, some episodes were a trip back in time for me…really well done thanks so much! Still living in Calgary and making an annual pilgrimage to Oshkosh…if ever coming this way again please look me up 😀
