    Y'all saw the first race between my 2020 BMW S1000RR and Evo's Ducati Panigale 899 when i was handicapped by the break-in period.     I heard the throttle only opens about 40% below 9k even at full throttle
    I’m sure tuning it would correct that issue

      It's true they say, not the bike. It's the rider. I mean, you want to keep it at the right spot of RPM in order for you to take off.

    This is not a match. Try with the Panigale V4 R.
    859 can work with a R6.

    Gotta love when those secondaries kick in. Like you said I’m sure it’s nothing a PC, a tune and exhaust can’t fix.

    Others have talked about this flat/dead spot issue. They believe it's part of what BMW had to do for emissions. Some have said if you do a full exhaust, no O2 sensor and delete the x valve. Most of the dead zone is helped. They have also said if you flash the ecu that will void the warranty. This is what I saw one 2 others channels last night talking about why they are selling their new S1000rr.

We have a ghost program that if they hook up to the truck it shows that we have governed the truck to 65 mph. Not exactly the same as swapping the tunes but eaiser for us in the semi.

      @@Shadowsoken some guys run dual a ecm, they get stopped they shut down the truck, flip a switch and go to the stock ecm. Learned the trick from a Canadian driver I use to run with. I haul superloads now, haven't been to Canada in 2 years now.

      The dead zone is from the intake/throttle side, not exhaust. Need something like brentune to modify the ecu.

    allot of stock yamaha bikes with exup (exhaust valve tech) have a dip arround 6-7 where there is no power. Maby getting an aftermarket exhaust would do dreams on the s1000RR.

      It's a documented issue with these bikes and it's because of the mapping. Exhaust is a must tho! Just waiting on some more to come out.

      @@motonosity Can it also be anything to do with the riding modes? maybe configuring one of the 3 exclusive modes to your liking and see if there's any improvement? The 44teeth guys didn't say much about it as far as i remember and they were in the pro modes for tyre tests etc

    I'm stuck between this 899 or a daytona 675r as my bike upgrade choice... i would use it mostly for street and fun riding on weekends and nice weather, not my primary vehicle. Also like the idea of taking it to the track sometime. Alot of people are saying the 899 would be better for street riding because of the daytona's riding position but I love everything about the Daytona (except for the looks which the 899 wins in that department). Also not a huge fan of the 899 sound compared to the daytona, is this ducati just a much better choice than the daytona- would I get the daytona and regret my purchase because of how uncomfortable it is? Could anyone comment on what would be a better choice?

    Hey @Motonosity for big diesel trucks it has that type of issue as well. so a lot of people just get the computer system on the ECU changed. Idk if you will lose your warranty if you do that, but if you want that's an option, so it fixes the low power output under 9,000rpm.

    There is settings on the bike. Such as wheelie control traction control and several different modes to open this bike up.

    My built GSX-R 600 does the exact same thing because of the degree that the performance cams are set at. Above 9k it immediately opens up and does not stop. It's set up for track racing.

    You aren't in one of the modes that restricts power right?? I am sure that isn't it but you never know. I asked about a full system and tune on my s1000R and my dealer said it only voids the warranty if that causes a problem specifically related to you doing that mod. It also helps to have a good relationship with them b/c they are the ones to submit the warranty claims to BMW.

    650ib did a tune on his M1000RR for this same reason (opens only like 50-60% throttle even if opened full throttle) who got back like 45hp in the mid range in all gears, u can find the video on his channel.

    Apparently the bmw has a technology called shiftcam if you google it there is a website called cycleworld that states " A smoother power curve is welcomed via the BMW ShiftCam Technology, which varies the intake valve timing at 9,000 rpm to ensure optimum power" Which might explain whats happening.

      But that doesn't explain the dark spot under 9,000 rpm. The gsxr 1000 gets the VVT as well, but doesn't suffer at any revs stock.
      The speed bug also sold the 1000rr and appreciates his suzuki more. (Also it's 50% cheaper)

    Pretty sad my zx10r would wheelie 1-4th and that bike won't even lift in 2nd it only allows 40-50 percent throttle 2-4th on the new s1k

    93 octane in the US is about 98 in Europe. We used to get up to 101 at the pumps in Europe though, at least where I used to live.

    The 2020 RR is in desperate need for an ECU tune. For most bikes it is a nice option, but it is necessary for this bike. Brentuning published the stock map that show it to be extremely restricted on both throttle and exhaust valve opening to game the EPA regs for US certification.

    You need to reach out to brentune. They are putting together first stage of flashes for the 2020 to fix the flat spot and bring the restrictions to what the Europe bikes are. U.S. restrictions are really rough.

    If it's really hot outside it's not the best idea to do a dyno run. That's because the temperature of the air it's sucking in has a big impact on the actual horsepower the motor produces.

    Have you thought about maybe the engine just doesn't make power down low? Just downshift to get higher rpm and the power you need if you want to accelerate. Am I missing something?

      That's just avoiding the issue. lol I'm not just making stuff up here. It's an actual, documented problem. Brentuning themselves, one of the top S1000RR tuning companies, has shown that the bike is being limited in that RPM range and they've resolved it with a flash.

      The engine makes the power down low man. Bmw had to limit the throttle under 9k to pass emissions. The ecu needs to be flashed to bypass and be at 100% throttle instead of 40-50%.

    My ‘07 ZX-14 was like that, only 6th Gear had the secondary throttle plates all the way open, so I just took them out, then every year was “hold on for dear life”, not sure how easy that is on an S1000RR, but that’s what it is. Secondary throttle plates.

    It seems like that isn’t some kind of error. More like a safety feature. But I’m sure a Ecu flash and retune would fix that throttle problem.

    Not true on the gas. Back home in Las Vegas some of our regular gas stations had 100 octane race fuel. That's what I would run in my superbikes and I used it once a month in my 17 Fz09

    Bikes with little to no torque down low in the rev range are questionable for street riding. I prefer a torquey bike that doesn’t need to be rung out to get some decent pull out of it

      I'm 6'1" and my legs are really too long to fit comfortably unless i'm pushed right up against the back of the seat (which is sloped down towards the front) so yeah I would say so, maybe get it lowered an inch

    You should try 89 (or higher if you guys have it) Ethanol free gas. I swear everything feels better, even response. Bikes and cars. If anything try it on the fz. Worse case better range. 👍🏻. Interesting to see if you notice anything different or it’s all Psychological for me lol. Even my older cobra tuned for premium runs better on ethanol free even at 89 octane 🤷🏻‍♂️
