    Dr. Berg, I thank you so much for your videos. I'm 71 years old. I went to the eye doctor yesterday and she (the Dr.) went on and on about the state of the vessels in my eyes and what amazing shape they are in. I have listened to and then put into practice so many of your health suggestions as I did with one I watched on the health of your eyes. You're videos are amazing and I'm very grateful!

    Sharing Dr Bergs Notes on this video:
    White bread can increase your insulin by 87%. But whey protein can increase your insulin by a whopping 139%.
    However, whey protein has an interesting effect because even though it raises insulin, it doesn’t spike your blood sugar level. Some studies have even shown that consuming whey protein after a meal could help lower your blood sugar.
    Whey protein also increases glucagon, which helps neutralize some of the bad effects of insulin. But will whey protein knock you out of ketosis? Yes. Anything that increases insulin will kick you out of ketosis. Will whey protein powder increase weight gain? I don’t think it does.
    It’s unknown whether or not whey protein can lead to insulin resistance. While whey protein stimulates muscle growth, it also creates a hormonal effect and stimulates other organs. There has also been data that it’s beneficial for the liver, but other data says that it can damage the liver.
    There are a lot of mixed opinions on whey protein powder right now. Personally, I don’t take it. I consume higher-quality protein sources, like eggs, meat, and fish, which also have additional nutrients. But, for certain people, whey protein can create some positive effects.
    Thank you Dr Berg!

Weight loss has been consistent. When trying to hit high protein intake and maintaining low calories the more natural alternative is cooking and eating a very large amount of the same lean meats every single day. With the current economic situation I am thankful to be able to get a protein source like whey and egg whites without breaking the bank with the rising cost of meats.

    In my opinion. The best kind of whey protein to consume is the stuff that is unflavoured and unsweetened (as it keeps the ingredients to a minimal) if you’re going to get a protein powder that’s flavoured, get one sweetened with stevia and or monk fruit. ALSO avoid the ones with maltodextrin, soy proteins, seed oils and artificial sweeteners like Sucralose and Ace-K

I use only olive oil in very small quantities and no sunflower oil or any othe plant based oils. my body has not been producing insulin for years now, and found if I eat more vegies than protein, it helps a lot with my insulin resistance......dawn effect is way better on low protein diet.

      Healthy Keto and Carnivore are not the same thing. Many similar channels to Dr Berg on TH-cam make it very clear that Keto is supposed to be tweaked specificly according to each individual's biochemistry. If you've followed "blanket generalization guidelines" propagated by mainstream "keto" gurus, I'm afraid you have been duped. After all, no diet is ever really a "one-size-fit-all" solution. As for Dr. Berg himself, he ALWAYS advocates consulting with a healthcare professional before starting any specific long-term diet to figure out what doesn't work for your body and what NOT to do.

    Dr. Berg, there is research that shows that it isn't ONLY the product you are ingesting, but the physical form it come in. That is why products that are made from flour, even "good" forms of flour, like oat or soy, have a negative effect. It is because they are powder. The powder itself, of whatever kind, gets into your system very quickly and spikes your glucose and even insulin. So I think we need to be careful about how "granular" the food is that we we eat, regardless of how "good" that food is.

  • @kathrynck
    @kathrynck ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think a glass of milk would be better than taking whey protein in an either/or scenario.
    BUT... if you're looking for "a bit" of extra protein, adding a _limited_ amount of whey protein (to milk) is not a bad idea.
    A popular whey mix at walmart has 30g protein for 1 scoop, 60g for 2 scoops. If you knock that down to about 2/3 of 1 scoop (20g protein), it mixes better, tastes better, has a pretty minimal impact on gut (bloating, etc), should have a much more muted effect on various body processes. But it's still a 10-30% boost in protein (depending on diet), which is _not_ insignificant.
    Maybe not for keto, but otherwise, in moderation? Sure.
    Heavy-dosing almost anything can have downsides.
    Even keto is kind of a "heavy dosing" scenario. It's pushing pretty far outside how the body wants to function. It will retaliate to an extent.
    It has some pros definitely, but if you keto, your body doesn't _just_ learn to burn fat, it also tries to recycle protein from muscle tissue for energy. You will either lose muscle, or at the very least find it nearly impossible to build muscle, while on strict keto. I think "soft keto" or "not quite keto" is a lot more healthy in the long run than "strict keto". Cutting out bread, pasta, sweets, soft-drinks, and juice, but otherwise consuming 'some' carbs (eat "some" milk, potato, carrots, peas, whole fruit, etc) is a pretty good balance. Basically keto-ish, but don't pick the croutons out of your salad & forego condiments, have that apple, etc. It's far easier to meal plan & stick with. Do that and you _will_ lose weight and become healthier (without any calorie counting). Add exercise, and you'll lose weight pretty quickly, while actually toning up (rather than down).
    Going significantly below around 100 carbs seems to be about where you start to see muscle atrophy. Still well below the 300g of carbs in RDA, and well into carb-energy-deficit to promote 'some' ketosis and burn fat. I mean if you're having 400-500 calories of carbs per day, your body MUST burn fat for energy. But not putting your body into "red alert" on energy conservation, so it will still commit resources to building & repairing muscle, and less risk of your body flat-lining your metabolism. Humans definitely vary, I'm sure there will be exceptions. But I've seen a LOT of people on Keto lose weight rapidly, but ultimately can't run any further or lift any more, because they're losing muscle too. The weight loss is a net positive, but it could be a lot more positive I think.
    If you want to count carefully, 1:1:1 ratio of carbs, protein, & fat works pretty well for a _healthy_ improvement (less fat, more muscle, and a decent assortment of natural nutrients & micronutrients). That might be as low as 90:90:90 (1530 cal) for a strong weight loss focus, or as high as 125:125:125 (2125 cal) for a gentle weight adjustment and general health. Could go as high as 125:200:125 (200g protein, 2400 cal total) for a muscle gain focus with lots of exercise. Getting to something like 200g protein (without upping the other 2) can be tricky without lean meat & a little whey mix. (again, humans vary, you know if you're chinese or viking, male or female, you'll have to adjust the numbers some).
    At the very least, any keto which limits protein for fear of burning protein as energy (which might reduce ketosis)... WILL cause muscle atrophy.
    And bear in mind, the heart is a muscle.
    I could see "super-low-carb, but very high protein" working (so there's greatly reduced risk of muscle cannibalization). Slower weight loss sure, but at least your body doesn't eat the parts of you which you kinda want to keep. But even then, muscle really dislikes being totally carb-free.
    If you're vegan, even with supplements you're never going to be healthy. If you're a vegetarian who eats eggs, fish, and dairy, that can work fine.
    But mostly, just remember that bread, pasta, sweets, soft drinks, juice ...and vegetable or seed oils... are all poison (olive oil being a possible exception). Fry your fried foods in lard or tallow (tastes infinitely better anyway). Also, try to physically move around. Voila you're healthy.
    If you don't feel fantastic doing this, then go get tested to find out what your food allergy is. Mine was grass (which extends to corn & wheat products).
    If you can grow some of your own food (in soil which isn't depleted, with legacy non GMO seed) all the better. A bit of our problem comes from large produce which is mostly celulose & water, by pushing weak soil with fertilizer, and gene splicing plants to make heavier (but less nutrient dense) produce.

    Interesting video!
    I think as all, it depends on the use and the circumstances.
    I have difficulty to reach my daily protein intake, so I'm not taking them everyday but at least 3 times a week 30g scoop.
    Cheese is good too, but the casein has a lower biological value than whey protein and for what I know it's not true that in the cheese you have the whey + casein + other nutrition elements.
    During the production of cheese, the curdled milk separates the casein from the whey, so there is no whey in the cheese. The only cheese made with whey is ricotta cheese.
    Thank for all the videos you make🙏
    And sorry for my English, I'm not native.

    Dear Dr. Berg,
    We have been following you for a few years now, and have gained relief in so many areas due to your gentle explanations. Thank you!
    When it comes to WHEAT, I want to let you know the truth about bread. It's wisdom you and your followers deserve to be equipped with. The rest of the world eats and survives on bread & carbs and they don't face the issues we do in America.
    In the USA, the wheat berry has been stripped of the majority of nutrients and minerals in the name of gaining a shelf life. The germ and bran contain some of the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. But commercial bread (white and wheat) contains only the endosperm which is essentially just STARCH and PROTEIN. This in addition to the "enriched" process which adds even more gluten to a hydrated wheat creates an unbalanced food our bodies don't understand how to process. Our bodies were not created to digest the endosperm without the bran and germ. The 3 synthetically added vitamins our FDA returned to bread in the 1930s corrected the beriberi and pellagra epidemic, but it has destroyed America's gut health!
    The answer to correcting MANY cases of IBS, spastic colon, warts, eczema, headaches/migranes, constipation, allergies, asthma, misdiagnosed celiac (non-genetic), low energy, diarrhea, crones, cholesterol, pregnancy nausea, oral ulcers, diabetes, anemia, sugar cravings, constant snotty noses (toddlers), infertility and more: MILL YOUR OWN ORGANIC FLOUR. Use the entire berry. Make your own bread! Thanks to the Bible and everything the Lord said concerning bread, our family learned the truth about wheat/bread/gluten and we have been healed by the nutrients in the wheat berry!
    I hope you will try milling at home and experience relief, save money, and frustrations from visiting a doctor. I WANT TO SHOUT THE TRUTH FROM THE ROOFTOPS!!

Unfortunately after the currency conversion and everything else I ended up paying $90 for a $41-50 dollar product. Definitely worth it and I trust you and who you are. And your work. The effort you put into your products. I had 1 question. I have fatty liver disease 31 years old haven't drank in year's, so must be a series of other things like poor dieting all my life. Can I mix these with other things for my liver like my milk whistle supplement? My magnesium bis Glycinate 80 Untra gentle? Should I take all these supplements in one day?

      High carb diets can cause fatty liver; is that possibly a cause for you?
      Milk thistle has variable results in studies. Use a choline supplement and/or eat foods that contain choline, because choline exports fat out of the liver. If you continue doing whatever is causing fatty liver, then you will be fighting that, so you might need to go lower carb. Fatty liver can reduce very quickly with low carb and consuming choline. Don't overdo the choline; see what dose is good for you.
      It sounds like you are using CanPrev Magnesium Bis-Glycinate. Magnesium is suggested at around 400mg a day, so you could be safely taking 3 or 4 of those capsules every day. I don't know the price of CanPrev, but many other products use the same TRAACS formulation of magnesium, such as Doctors Best.

    Mix heavy cream with WP to blunt insulin spikes of WP!
    "The insulin responses will likely be higher in WP isolates than concentrates. Despite whey concentrate usually having more carbs and less protein (which would increase the insulin spike in most cases) it usually has a little fat and fat has a tendency to slow absorption of carbs and proteins which blunts the size of the insulin spike. It is also important to note the glycemic index of lactose (milk sugar) is only 46 while glucose (white bread) is 100 and sucrose (table sugar) is 65. The effect is that lactose actually has a smaller insulin response than WP so increasing the milk fat and lactose in a given WP actually blunts the size of the insulin spike."

    • @Battle-Fiercely88
      @Battle-Fiercely88 ปีที่แล้ว

      'Important Note About Insulin Spikes Post Workout: If you want to maximize the ability of a post workout WP shake to help you build muscle, you need to eat a real meal about an hour after the shake (and maybe sooner) or the dip in blood sugar that accompanies a high insulin spike can actually cause your body to potentially breakdown muscle protein (a process called proteolysis) in order to create more glucose (a process called gluconeogenesis). Eating that meal makes sure there will be plenty of metabolic substrates to avoid having to breakdown muscle tissue. You’re still likely to get some benefit but far less so without the follow-up meal. There is also evidence that in people that are sufficiently insulin sensitive and under the right conditions can speed up their metabolism with one well-placed insulin spike per week allowing for an afterglow effect once the insulin spike has subsided. I don’t recommend trying this until you have read about how to correctly do it, or you will likely just waste your time and possibly gain unwanted fat.'

    • @Battle-Fiercely88
      @Battle-Fiercely88 ปีที่แล้ว

      'Staged or Time Release Proteins: If you are unable to eat a meal after a large insulin spike then a staged or time release protein might work better. These proteins usually start with a fast-absorbing protein like whey isolate or hydrolysate and start to move through slower proteins like whey concentrate, egg white protein, micellar casein and so on. This seems to be a good solution to get some kind of insulin boost but without the post insulin dip in blood sugar and amino acids. These are good ideas for people that need or want an insulin spiking post workout shake that don’t have time or access to a proper meal afterwards.'

    • @Battle-Fiercely88
      @Battle-Fiercely88 ปีที่แล้ว

      'Here is a list of 4 key indicators that are likely to make the post workout window of greater importance with number 1 being really important.
      The post workout window is even more important if you are training in a fasted state. When you are in a fasted state you are likely to be more depleted from your workout and increase your risk of excessive muscle breakdown.
      Greater training volume, intensity, and frequency will increase importance of the post workout window. Competitive athletes of all stripes usually do better when they utilize the post workout window. If you goal is to train as much as possible then you need to start recovering as quickly as possible. This also happens because the more heavily trained a given athlete’s body becomes the shorter the total anabolic window gets. This is why there are almost no advanced strength athletes that don’t have some kind of meal or shake after a workout.
      The leaner and more insulin sensitive you are the better your body tends to respond to an insulin spike in the post workout window. When the articles are targeted at the bodybuilding crowd (article, article) they increasingly recommend the hydrolysate (larger insulin spike) while those targeted to healthy living, fat loss, or non-competitive athletes (article, article) seem to steer people to the concentrates and isolates (smaller insulin spike).
      Increasing the intensity and amount of muscle recruitment will increases the potential benefit of the post workout window. Bigger more intense workouts (whole body workouts vs just biceps and triceps) create greater hormonal signals to grow. The larger those signals, the better they respond to good post workout nutrition.'

    @Dr Berg It’s true, protein can cause an insulin spike. But this increase in insulin contributes to building muscle. In fact, some of the best data on type 2 prevention highlights consistent resistance exercise having a substantial effect on improving insulin sensitivity.

    The purpose of it is fast absorption to the muscle. Simple guideline would be is only use it if you have an athletic lifestyle. It actually helped me lose bodyfat and got stronger physically (with proper diet of course). When I got the body i wanted i switched to just eating typical asian food and trimmed down my training frequency. I would only supplement whey protein occasionally before and after holidays where I workout alot.
    As long as you're not sick or anything then just use it wisely.

    Good video sir- you might consider looking into the differences between whey protein isolate versus concentrate versus casien. They all have different properties, and even within each category, all proteins are not the same. I don't generally recommend clients who primarily want fat loss to use a whey protein isolate- but I will recomend a concentrate or a casien based protein, or just plain Branch Chain Amino Acids. Regardless of the clients goals, I never advise an isolate for meal replacements, only post workout, when insulin sensitivity should be heightened. If someone needs to use a whey protein for a meal replacement, it really should be a concentrate or casien. The quality of the protein is also very important. All whey proteins are not equal!

    Doctor I love your content!❤
    I'm a medical student, and I find your videos inspiring!
    A comment that I find interesting to make is that most people have a diet that is very poor in protein, whether due to cost, lack of time or lack of information, whey protein would be a supplement aimed at these people, so as a suplement, despite having benefits, it rarely will be better than absorbing protein through food.
    The WHO will recomend 0.8g of protein per Kg of body mass! ❤
    Much love from Brazil!❤

    My surgery is in 3weeks time and going to start intermittent fasting again although I’ve not eaten breakfast in 2yrs I have had low carbs as I don’t have weight issues and normally have 2 meals during a 6/7hr window any tips or vids would be welcomed
