Use THIS Protein NOT that Protein - Guide to Protein Powders - Thomas DeLauer
    Whey is Highly Insulinogenic
Whey protein-based products contribute to elevations of postprandial insulin and basal insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) plasma levels - it elevates insulinemia
This is problematic as it has been touted that whey protein could be detrimental long term, as hyperinsulinemia can down-regulate the insulin receptor and lead to insulin resistance
A study published in the journal Nutrition & Metabolism found that consumption of whey triggers a higher insulin response than compared to the consumption of white bread
Specifically, whey ingestion resulted in a 1.2- to 2.8-fold increase in plasma concentration of leucine, isoleucine, valine, threonine and lysine relative the basal plasma levels and those obtained after ingestion of white bread
Postprandial amino acids, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) responses were higher after whey compared to white bread
Researchers concluded that “whey protein exerts its insulinogenic effect by preferential elevation of the plasma concentrations of certain amino acids, GIP and GLP-1”
    Problem with Casein Proteins
Because casein digests so slowly, natural morphine-like substances in casein known as casomorphins, act like opiates in the body as they enter the bloodstream
Just minutes after you eat a dairy-based food, the casein protein begins to break down. This releases the drug-like casomorphins, which attach to opiate receptors in the brain and cause severe addictions to dairy products
Casein’s slow digestion rate also puts great strain on the digestive system
    Pea Protein
Popular sources of animal protein like dairy and meat are rich in EAAs, making them extremely popular among people looking to improve their their body composition, whereas the protein found in many vegetables aren’t, making them less conducive to muscle gain
Pea protein, however, is an exception because it’s rich in all nine essential amino acids except for methionine
Pea protein is derived from ground yellow split peas and often from a mechanical rather than the chemical separation of soy and whey proteins - this allows the pea protein to also retain soluble fiber, which is known to provide many benefits to both cardiovascular and gastrointestinal health
Pea protein uses fewer resources (water and fertilizers namely) and seems to be less environmentally impactful than other proteins
Pea protein, when hydrolysed, may yield peptides with bioactivities, including angiotensin I-converting enzyme inhibitor activity (ACE inhibitor)
Polyphenolics, in coloured seed coat types in particular, which may have antioxidant and anticarcinogenic activity, saponins which may exhibit hypocholesterolemic and anticarcinogenic activity, and galactose oligosaccharides
Pea vs Whey - Study (Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition)
161 males, aged 18 to 35 years underwent 12 weeks of resistance training on upper limb muscles:
    Pea protein (n = 53), Whey protein (n = 54) or Placebo (n = 54) group
All had to take 25 g of the proteins or placebo twice a day during the 12-week training period
Increases in thickness were significantly greater in the Pea group as compared to Placebo whereas there was no difference between Whey and Pea
Performing a sensitivity study on the weakest participants (with regards to strength at inclusion), thickness increases were significantly different between groups (+20.2 ± 12.3%, +15.6 ± 13.5% and +8.6 ± 7.3% for Pea, Whey and Placebo, respectively
    Increase in the maximum concentric torque between D0 and D84 was +8.8 ± 8.9 N.m for the Placebo group, +10.9 ± 9.9 N.m for Whey group and +10.7 ± 7.6 N.m for Pea group.
    jissn.biomedcentral.com/artic...
    Collagen Protein
Collagen’s amino profile is tailored more towards muscle recovery rather than muscle growth - collagen makes up our bones, tendons, connective tissue, and muscles.
That is why it’s one of the most important nutrients for maintaining bone and joint health, as well as speeding up recovery time for strains, sprains, and other soft tissue injuries.
Collagen also contains the amino acids proline and glycine, which are natural anti-inflammatories and powerful immune system boosters.
Immune system cells are the first to respond to any form of injury and stimulate the body’s healing process - which is why supporting immunity through your diet is the most important place to begin for wound and injury healing.
Collagen helps to promote a healthy inflammation response by speeding up the repair of connective tissues that are damaged, and thus inflamed, during an intense workout.

Hi, I'm new to your channel. I wanted to ask, is it true that having a protein shake after my workout will knock me out of ketosis??
I've started keto this week and I've been having a protein shake after my workout for the last 5 years. Its a healthy one, but I was told that because whey protein is to lean, will knock you out of Ketosis. If this is true, can I add 2 tablespoons of peanut butter inside the shake? Will in counter this effect and keep me in Ketosis?

      Thomas speaks fast, but I
"Get it" if I jump rope, fast,
In my best and parallel rhythm, With"non-deplorable" limes, or "bump in road", lines becoming like embittered , (or soured) lemon enzymes, or
      schisms in the mist of
Rhetorical schemes, or virtual dreams. IMO, ...
      It's the Humility ability,
      Mixed with personable nuance,
      That helps me to
      Jump in, without objection, whenever
      Truth's intent provides
      It's merciful protection, i.e.. ...
      True diligence can lead to
      Intelligence, without one
      Splitting hairs, or
      "Making airs",

Do you recommend whey protein to break a fast instead of bone broth/mct oil/rice cake? The problem is that i live in a very small town and I can’t get that three things that you recommend to break a fast. Just whey protein powder and water.
I would add pea protein powder to my last meal at 17 o clock.

My body totally rejects its consumption now, I developed some kind to intolenrance. I learned how to eat real food instead and my muscle gain rate is the same. No bcaa, no whey, no glutamine, no preworkout, etc. Used that money into real food. Just a strict ketogenic nutrition plan with intermitent carbs and my gains still rocks. But you really need to be very disciplined, no short cuts or cheats for a very long time.

I think I’m at this place - need to stop all the extras and practice making and eating whole real foods for a while.

Yep totally agree. Just eat real foods instead of processed powders. There is a difference between eating calories to drinking them too

This was extremely helpful. I recently had surgery and my Dr has stressed getting my protein in. So now I know what to get instead of that premier protein which i was hesitating to use.

Hi Thomas, I am using Orgain Organic Protien, is it good or should I switch?

    • @iiNgONYaMa
      @iiNgONYaMa 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I have noticed that orgain uses fillers in the product and they have soy as well as sugar if I recall. They aren't a clean protein. Evolve, sunwarrior, Vega, and Julian bakery protein are the most safe I can remember off hand. Sun warrior has been a serious quality protein for many years now. I mean at least a decade. I used it to get off the soy. It tasted like a handful of dehydrated bean chalk but it was filling and it rapidly fixed the damage from soy and dairy. It and Vega are very clean

Should we have to be concerned about pea protein as it may still have lectin in it ( the mechanical processing would not remove lectin , i think). Then just as rice protein, which has gluten like compound, wouldn't pea protein consumption cause leaky gut, especially when it is taken right after a fast? I love to hear anyone's thought on this. Thanks heaps!

I've been wondering this too! Also with almond protein getting popular. Lectins get destroyed by heat I thought so maybe in the process it's reduced 🤷

Just found this guy and already a fan! It seems like the man knows what he's talking about. Also, have ordered the Sunflower warrior protein to replace my whey because of my skin issue. We'll see how that turns out! Btw, the price for their protein is not bad at all. I hope the quality is good as well.

Actually, when I was in my regular routine, I would drink a whey protein shake early because I usually did circuit training or cross training early which helped, I later followed up my day with aminos and a little collagen for recovery or a recovery shake...because I would do my weight regimen midday.. the rest of the day I would just eat really good foods and I also take vitamins and antioxidants. I plan to use pea protein as my staple after watching your video because I actually prefer vegetable based over others... my metabolism has always been high and so the one whey shake a day actually helps me because I don't consume breads or large amounts of carbs in a day...I actually hardly ever/ almost never eat breads....good video and thanks because I really wasn't that knowledgeable about pea proteins......

I started using split peas as a replacement for egg whites. It digests a lot better for me. But I may cut out whey, and see how I feel. I concur with the rice protein, I felt very bloated using it, and seemed to give me digestive issues as well.

Thank you for breaking it down for me. I will buy SunWarrior because I trust you and the information you provide based on your reputation. You always do the research and provide evidence based facts found in scientific research, not your opinion. It saddens me to see some of the rude comments below. For me, I want to say "thank you" and all the best to you and your beautiful family. As they say, "Silence is the best way to reply to..."
