    TJ, I'm still in process of building my VLX and I for one appreciate all that you do for the Honda community! I got my jets from you months ago and I'm just now tearing into the carb. Gotta replace a broken choke line and both of the diaphrams I found out. Previous owner did a Mickey Mouse fix-it. Anyway, thanks for these videos. It's always good to be able to reference an experienced experience. ;)

    Actually, the reason for the two different main jet sizes is because the rear cylinder runs hotter due to less air flow around the head. Running the rear richer keeps it cooler...

      Ahhh here we go! That might also be the reason why the smaller sister, the VT-125 has two different main jets! My 2000 has this set up. Starting 2002 they changed something and the kets then were slightly bigger and the sam efor front and back.

    Now when I turn the choke off on my bike it kills the engine tho...I'm curious, what would your process of elimination be to figure out the cause?

    Hey TJ! I understand the need to rejet after installing a new exhaust. A have 2000 750 ACE and I love the stock air filter it has on it, and I just want to add the backdraft exhaust with the performance tuning kit. Will running the stock air filter be a problem with this, or will I just need to adjust as needed?

    Thanks for the videos! I just got an 83 vt500c...and have been struggling to find carb kits. Is this the same carb across the board for 500, 600, 750, etc.? Excuse my ignorance, I'm fairly new to these bikes

    god DAMN this helped a lot. Picked up a 94 vlx and I have no idea what the guy did to it, but it has zero power at full throttle. Sputters a lot, almost like it's starving for gas or air. I figure it's either a ratio issue, the jets or just shit built up in the carbs. Gona be looking for a universal kit and just clean/rejet the carbs, then dial in the ratio screws. This video helped immensely.

    Hi Tj,
    My bike is a 95 Honda shadow 600. I put your velocity stacks on and I chopped the heavy stock exhaust tips off and welded some turn down tips on it. I wrapped the pipes and installed the big jets that I got from you that were recommended in the instructions. The bike runs great except for when I get down on it real head or at exactly 65mph. Should I mess with the air screw or does it need diff jets? Please help!

    Just to add, when you put the carb back on the bike (VT750DC in my case) the airbox usually gets in the way of reaching the air/fuel mix screws and the choke gets in the way on the other side. Im using a watch makers screw driver to adjust it of course. I may get the custom stems but its a bit pricey for my blood at the moment. However the custom adjustment screws would make it way easier. Keep in mind without the airbox/filter in place you are sucking in air as is and if its dusty you may suck it into your carb. So I would try to do this in a clean area and if you dare ride it up and down the street to test you adjustments be sure to just put the air box/filter back on. Its an extra minute or two hassle but if you spent all the time rebuilding a carb, might as well treat it right.

      Shite. Sorry friend.Wish I had known. I just bought a jet kit from Sigma on ebay. That's how I ended up finding your video. Picked up some used slash cut pipes for $100, Doing the 4 - degree timing mod, gutting the snorkle from the stock intake, adding K&N air filter, 39T sprocket. Should do it all next Saturday.. What else would you recommend? I bought the 750 ACE because it is 50 lbs lighter than the 1100 and is chain drive. I like getting a lot from a mid-size bike, instead of just buying displacement and extra weight.

    Thank you brother for a great video. I have a 1996 VT 1100 Ace that I recently bought a set of Cobra exhaust for. I haven't put them on the bike yet I was waiting for after the winter. How do I know what size jets do I put in. I was planning to also put a high-flow air intake from K&N.

    hey great video but i got a quick question... I have a 1995 honda shadow 600 vlx and i recently bought it and noticed that when i was going through 3-4th gear my bike started to bog not bad at first and only sometimes, then i ran out of gas cause bike has no gauge and i wasnt paying attention filled tank started but now it bogs out so hard that almost dies loose all sorts of power. i havent cleaned the carb out yet that was what im going to do this weekend but could that be the problem for whats going on. thanks

    I understand how to put them on. I’ve had the carb apart a time or two. I guess I should have clarified my question. If I leave the air box and all of the original equipment on the bike in that area, will it be hard to get to the choke knobs that you sell? I seen on one of your descriptions that the shorty chokes work better if you take the extras off and use the velocity stacks.

    Hi TJ any tips of right jetting for dual carb honda steed 400, just want to get rid of the airbox. Its pain in the ass when it loosen out cause of the vibration, the bike malfunction.

    I have a question about proper re-jetting those dual carbs. I've got Vance&Hines on my Shadow and big aftermarket air filter (modified car air filter actually stuck to the pipe in the front) so it has more than enough air. The bike has been bogging down on full throttle so I suspect the main jets need to be replaced as well...which one do you think would be better 120 or 122 ones? Cheeeeeers for the reply bro!

I haven't tried to crank it the bike has 15 k miles on it and was a good deal I plan to clean the carbs today and the Jets too.     TJ I’m having a problem with my 97 VT1100C2 ACE that you might be able to help with. I replaced the coils with Accel Super Coils and went from stage 1 jets to stage 3 jets. I got everything button back up and started it up but she has a very bad backfiring at idle and when I give it throttle. I have checked for vacuum leaks and played with the mixture screw with no change. It’s louder when you give more throttle. Can you give me any advice?

    I didn't clip the centre of the yellow plastic that hold s the spring. Can this alone cause my bike to bod on full throttle after re-jetting?

    After reassembly of the carb I have gas coming out of a vent tube I believe? Gas was also coming out
    of the rear side exhaust. @7:10 your finger with the D is pointing to the port the fuel was coming out of... Thinkn I need to check the float? Any help would be appreciated !!

    Hi, Ive got a 1998 Vt 600 dual carb shadow. Ive put on your stax, and there was already a jet kit installed. Ive adjusted the air fuel mixture screws all different ways. Im having Running issues, It starts and idles fine when stopped. But when i go down the road it hesitates, pops. Any thoughts? Also( It may need a different jet kit) Im not sure.

    Hi , I have a 1999 vlx600 . My fuel pump keeps sticking and won't let fuel pump out . I have to put air pressure in the inline hose going into the pump till I hear a pop sound . It sounds like a rubber piece getting un stuck one it pops the pump works good . If I leave the bike unstarted for a week it sticks again and I gave to blow it free again . If I stat it every day it works fine . Okay here is my question can I just get rid of the pump and go right from the tank to the carburetor . This is the first bike I have ever had that has a fuel pump so I'm having a hard time figuring out why its there in the first place .Thanks for your help in advance .

    Google says vlx600(stock) can reach 160km/h tops. So can it reach 180 or 200km/h when rejetted? Or would it need more other tune ups such as port polishing, agressive cams, etc? Really looking forward to build one for cruising and for some "fun". You know what I mean.

    I put stacks on my bike and as soon as I throttle it sputters and shuts off
    Or if I get it moving every gear is massively underpowered
    Will rejecting with the dual carb performance jet kit coupled with a rune potentially fix this issue?

      Typically, anytime you make a change to your intake or exhaust, you SHOULD re-jet accordingly, since your exhaust is now more free flowing, you probably should re-jet.

    I have a 93 Honda shadow vlx 600 dual carb. I'm trying to take both carbs out to clean and possibly rebuild but I'm having trouble finding a guide on how to remove them without damaging the bike. I would like to do it myself as I don't want to spend the possibly $275 to have it done at a shop. Any recommendations or advice would be appreciated.

    I just have a maintenance question regarding idle issues as well as running issues. When I ease the throttle bike bugs, when I gun it the bike hesitates for a split second and then will get up and go. My fuel air mixture is turned 3 turns out please help
    It's for a 1994 shadow vt1100c dual carborator. I do have larger jets in it as per guidance from one of the other videos due to the fact I have open pipes.

    I have a honda shadow 750 I rejetted it with a stage one dyno kit . It's not running correctly , could I have switched the main jets? Do the main jets differ from the left to right side of the carb? It was running then shut off and now won't turn back on. I put the fuel needle clip on the 2 slot and added two bigger Jett's and debaffled the stock exhaust . The bike was running perfect stock I justed wanted to debaffle it but now I wish I would have left it alone . Any ideas?

    I recently got a 02 Honda shadow spirit vt750dc working after my chicks X left it sitting fro two years. It had 18k miles. I got a lot of stuff changed and cleaned out and got it running. I completely rebuilt the carb and replaced the jets. Its OEM. I have gone over a ton of videos and how to's on adjusting the idle and air/fuel mixture. What would help would be to hear an OEM Honda Shadow with duel carbs. A video with a bike properly tuned and hear how it sounds. Maybe a brief explanation of the stock settings which most of us know already but would have helped newbies like me. I am having trouble adjusting it and the factory setting seem to not be working. Still get a slight back fire and/or some hesitation on throttle. I know its idle should be around 900RPM give or take a hundred. I know how to adjust the screws etc. But I think if I had a good baseline sound to go off of I could get it closer to perfect. Maybe do a cold start with the choke open and then let us hear how it sounds if you rev it cold and then as it warms up and from maybe a standing position opposed to leaning to one side which I noticed makes a difference. Maybe its just me but I think hearing a quality recording of the sound at its best performance OEM will tell me if Im way off or not. Just a thought. Love the videos and parts. Cheers.

    Tj i was riding around with my exhaust chopped off and my bike was riding messed up so i put a 50 jet in and my bike will not stay running what is the problem its a 2000 honda shadow 600 vlx thanks!?

    I have a 1998 shadow ace 750 I had a shop put a stage 1 on the bike because the guy before me took out the baffles on stock pipes so it was popping .so now I bought one of those crome spike air intake & cover and now popping and running like crap so I took carbs off and put a 114 jets on it because that's what the spike filter came with and it still runs like crap and popps

    i bought a 83 Honda Vt 750 shadow got it running but like crap i was cleaning the carbs i found on the air fuel screws one side had a small washer and o ring the other side did not have ether is this right or has some one been in there before me

    i got a 2007 honda shadow 750 carb was damaged in accident it leaks gas i believe its cracked runs good but leaks gas got another carb off a 07 shadow areo but it has extra ports where can u buy caps is it ok to cap will it work?

    I have a 98 Honda shadow when I try to start if I disconnect the gas pump the Honda stay idle . When I connect the pump again the motorcycle over flow the carburetor and shot down. Any sudgestions?
