Always felt this scene should have been left in - it goes well with the later scene in St Petersburg when Defense Minister Mishkin is ruefully looking out the window at the military band playing the same music ... just before Ourumov arrives. Symbolic in some way!
I am glad this bit was left out of the final film but I would also like to see the entire pre title sequence with this bit in it. Maybe even with music in it. The music may have been part of the problem in this instance. That march music is REALLY a flowbreaker coming from that amazing establishing shot.
The building outside the gate reminds me of the level of the N64 game, I know that the developers actually went to the set to get all the reference material, or is it just coincidental
While you got most of it right, keep in mind that the entire film runs at 24fps while the deleted bits run at 25 hence making the audio sound kinda high pitched which could also use some adjusting.
For me it goes Pierce Brosnan in No.1, Sean Connery in No.2, Daniel Craig in No.3, George Lazenby in No.4, Timothy Dalton in No.5 and Roger Moore in No.6
I think that may be due to the degradation of the film. The guardhouse light is on which, when combined with the muddy quality of the film print, suggests to the eye that it is a night scene. Perhaps the guardhouse is also sitting in the shadow of the surrounding mountains, adding to the impression. But the shot of Bond glancing and the plane flying back over are clearly day. These scenes are all set during day as per the shooting script, so it is unlikely that the filmmakers shot anything to look like a night scene.

Fantastic! Always wondered how Bond made it through, dashing in daylight on a guarded dam.
Always felt like something was missing before the gate opens and he runs onto the dam.
This one is great. Shows how Bond operates with stealth

Impressive work! Congrats!

yes, Rare made that building in the Dam level based on this deleted scene.
Rare was given a tour of the set which is why some of the levels are very detailed compared to the movie.

This fits well just like the Game.
Excellent work
This scene would go well in the final film
Wouldn't consider Brosnan my favorite bond, but his gun barrel has to be #1.

@@The_Blue_Otaku same order for me as well! Roger Moore was waaaaaay too damn old for the role.
shouldve been left in its only 2 minutes more and itll add more to the skill of Brosnan's bond
In the N64 game, you do some of this stuff on the harder difficulty settings.
Are we forgetting the obvious reason why this wouldn't work? During the deleted scene it's dark and when bond runs across the dam it's daytime.

Left in, or left out, who cares?
GOLDENEYE is one helluva good movie.
Pierce Brosnan was highly overated as James Bond! He lacked the danger and depth of Timothy Dalton.
