Brosnan is my absolute favourite James Bond, even if the plots of a couple of the films weren’t stellar, he always nailed the character in a way that made you want to be James Bond.
I've never looked, had no idea it was not seen as anything but a masterpiece. That's a shame because to me it is still the best. I don't care what others think, for me HE is James Bond. When I was a teenager watching the James Bond movies of the time, it was Pierce Brosnan. Thanks for the memories
He was the worst bond in my opinion. Not even close to Connery or Roger. Very unconvincing bond. He looked more like a guy who was playing bond instead of being James Bond.
Love pierce Brosnan simply a fantastic actor and man. Being born in 1990 I grew up with his bond films and loved them as a kid and still enjoy them now. Hes such an established actor that just has a way about him that is so likeable, elegant and humble.
Since Remmington Seele Pierce Brosnan has been my absolute favorite actor, a true human, a great character and an idol. I wish I could have had 1% of his handsomeness, humility and humor. Pierce is an absolute unique exemplar of the human species. Nobody like him, nowhere...
Will always be my 007, him and Roger Moore, they had the style, the class and the one liners, while holding it down when needed. Don't care if they weren't the closest to the original book's character, they are how i imagined Bond would be in real life. Goldeneye is by far my favorite Bond's movie.
GQ dropped the ball big time with this featurette. Remington Steele should have been featured first, as it introduced the entire world to Brosnan, and almost immediately fans were clamouring for him as Bond.
I totally agree. But I remember first seeing him in the mini-series Manions of America. He played Rory O’Manion. There was an immediate fan club created. A very small handful of my friends saw the mini-series and Pierce was seared into our brains. The next year we heard about Remington Steele happening. We told all our friends to watch it because he was going to be in it. “Who’s Pierce Brosnan?”, they asked. Nobody else knew who we were talking about. Well, the world would definitely find out in Remington Steele. It really put him on the map. But I still feel it was Manions of America that introduced him to America, which made everyone see what was possible with this man. But nobody talks about Manions of America.
Remington Steele showcased Stephanie and Pierce's acting range episode after episode. The show had everything. Action, comedy, drama, suspense, mystery, romance, etc. Really sad that it's a forgotten tv show.
Mr. Brosnan really is a class apart. Wonderful actor, humble, artistic, full of admiration for his fellow actors, and an all-around kind and caring person. It was great to see him talk about his different roles and his memories associated with the films. Thanks, GQ!
I've just stumbled on a seldom seen movie called Seraphim Falls that moved me a lot. Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson give deep and powerful performances.
@@spacemann1425 No fan of the original Oceans 11 will consider the remake and spinoffs to be anything other than CRAP. There was a magic to the original that can never be captured by anyone other than the legends who made it.
Been a massive Pierce Brosnan fan since Remington Steele and have watched almost all his movies. He’s had a lot of heartache in his life, so it’s nice to see him getting some of the recognition he deserves.
I was shocked by that. I was randomly listening to this while cleaning the house, as suddenly the voice of Doubtfire AND Robin could be heard. It was so spot on, I had to grab my phone to see if it really was Brosnan doing the voice or if it was a clip they intersected into the video.
I love that he's honest about which films he really got something deeper out of and which ones he's like "I remember the paycheck" and "I liked that I got to fish a lot...beautiful scenery"!
Underrated makes no sense. Dude has been in so many movies and just about everyone that isn't a teen now knows him. If people dislike him sure, but that isn't the case.
Growing up in the 90's, I thought he played a phenomenal Bond. He will always be my personal favorite. Although Goldeneye may not be considered amongst the top films in the Bond franchise... the video game adaptation of the film is of legendary status in the gaming industry. Thank you, Pierce
I consider Goldeneye the best Bond movie with Casino Royale a close second. I just feel Goldeneye and Pierce capture the complete and best aspects of what Bond is and should be.

Pierce Brosnan is the Bond of my Generation and, to be honest, the best one in my opinion (and I watched all of the Bond Movies). Even I liked him in Dantes Peak, in the golden age of the 90s with Twister, Volcano, Armageddon and Independence Day.
007, Dantes Peak, Thomas Crown Affair.. 3 roles I watched growing up that solidified him as an actor I enjoy and truly appreciate, Thank you Mr Brosnan.
The Thomas Crown Affair followed by GoldenEye - my two favourite movies of all time. Pierce Brosnan - my favourite actor of all time. He and Rene Russo in The Thomas Crown Affair were truly out of this world. The whole cast was superb. Every scene was exquisite as was the soundtrack. There was a special energy to those films not found in any others which transcended the four corners of the screen and globe and which continues to do so all these years later. I can't quite put my finger on it, but perhaps best described as a timeless elegance. It all came together in the mid to late nineties. What a time! Just an inspiration
As a fellow Irish man, I was so proud of him in Remington Steele, then in 86 the missed opportunity to be Bond was crushing, but his part in The Fourth Protocol made up for it. Still very proud of Pierce, God bless you

Even though he pays respect to Sean and Roger, I think his humble mark of loyalty to them overshadows the fact that he was in fact the best bond of all time. He represented the best of every part of bond. Also the Goldeneye game embedded Pierce even further into the hearts of fans and immortalized him into the best game ever made. Pierce is such a genuinely lovely person to be around and Robin Williams's love for him is testament to the fun and genuine friendship they seeded on set. Thank you Pierce for all the good times and I hope in the near future 007 comes back as a cameo! LONG LIVE PIERCE BROSNAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the things you can noticed throughout the entire interviews is how much he respect his peers and the love he has for acting, he loves it so much that he gives meaning and try to understand the character so he can portray them better and understand how to react. The way he express himself you can just listen to him talk all day and not get bored!!!
This man is near 70. He looks great. He is gifted. Nothing more you can say, really.
It’s clear how much love and admiration Pierce had for Robin. Nice to hear
Seriously, what's not to like about Pierce, such a class act. Thank you for all your films Mr. Brosnan.
Me too thanks 007
His better version of Tom Cruise . rather Brosnan was more movie star
The Thomas Crown Affair is one of my favorite movies. I still own it on DVD even in this era of streaming.
I honestly love this man. Not only for the great roles he has played, but the way he loved his wife that passed away, and the way he loves his wife Keely now.
His daughter passed away too, of ovarian cancer just like his first wife, in 2013. Unfortunately in the intervening 30 years they couldn't develop any treatment to beat such a deadly disease :(
He never went 'Hollywood' and never allowed his fame to go to his head. He always stayed grounded and I think his love for his family had a lot to do with that.
I love that he talked about 007 for 3 seconds and couldn’t stop raving about Robin and Mrs Doubtfire 🤣🤣
Best movie eva
He’s been talking about bond since 1995
He really doesn't like his run as Bond for some reason
he was a good bond but his movies weren't the best and I think he knows that, goldeneye was good but the other 3 were kinda lame tbh, die another day was so f bad
@@strikerbowls791 1) In the late 1980s, he was denied the role due to dirty play by NBC - at the last possible moment; 2) In mid-2000s his tenure was unexpectedly cut short - and had to hear about it through the (leaked?) media reports. No wonder...!
He did not need to go as hard as he did singing SOS in Mamma Mia, but he did that for us
ICONIC
Loved it 😂❤
He did it for millions of dollars
They dialled his singing back for the sequel.
No, he did that TO us
Pierce Brosnan is a class act period.
Only if you knew what he was really like!! They say never meet your hero’s he’s one of them!!
Brosnan is my absolute favourite James Bond, even if the plots of a couple of the films weren’t stellar, he always nailed the character in a way that made you want to be James Bond.
The Legend himself. He will forever be known as one of the best Bonds.
Goldeneye is a masterpiece even if critics will never label it that way, its sad that some people dont see the magic that it brings, too bad for them.
I remember a time when any film directed by Martin Campbell would actively promote that it was directed by “the director of Goldeneye”
I've never looked, had no idea it was not seen as anything but a masterpiece. That's a shame because to me it is still the best. Like I said in my comment, I hate his movies got so stupid toward the end of his run because he will always be my favorite bond and he was so wasted as Bond after Goldeneye.
My personal favorite Bond film
Alec is a top 4 Bond villain
yeah the remaked game with that clown danielle craig is a disgrace
@Erik It really was.
Thomas Crown Affair is one of the most underrated movies of all time. Just so much fun.
Fabulous movie
One of my absolute favorites as well! I love how the music so wonderfully intertwines with the various scenes. Great score!
And one of the few movies that is better than the original.
@@victoria2944 100%
Agree! It's one of those movies I watch every time I find it ❤
My favourite role of his is actually in the Thomas Crown Affair, and his chemistry with Rene Russo is absolutely incredible.
me too - great movie all together. Watching the catamaran tip over was amazing.
Same. The whole movie has stuck with me for a long time.
Agree! Love that movie
She's so good in that movie, her introduction scene is fantastic... and then when they meet its just pure tension (beautiful) both were great
Watch that one almost yearly
Met Pierce in Malibu 4 years ago and he was THE nicest and most gracious, humble celebrity I have EVER met and I've met a lot of them.
I admire him so much. He's such a great actor. It doesn't matter what he is doing, if it's the main character or just a small part, he always deliveries everything he has. It is just amazing!
As a 90s kid, Pierce was my James Bond. Most of his films especially Mrs. Doubtfire were classics.
Yes I grew up on his James Bond
Same! For me he's THE James Bond - also because of the Nintendo 64 game.
Mine, too. I only wish the last two Bond films were better.
I'm surprised he didn't talk about The Foreigner. It's both his, and Jackie Chan's best performances in my opinion. That movie is phenomenal.
I liked Robinson Caruso
And No Escape
Agreed, that was an amazing film for both of them.
It wasn't that good. Hardly an 'iconic character'.
Have you seen "The Matador"?
His first stint as Bond was immediately a classic, Goldeneye is still (IMO) one of the best 007 movies fromt he entire series.
Agree it’s too 5 for me
its the best bond film after goldfinger
It's a shame the storylines got so ridiculous, he really was a great Bond
Not for me. I love Brosnan, but for me that era of Bond movies are the worst in franchise history. A bridge too far on the silliness. I wish he’d played Bond during an era of better scripts.
@@hannibalb8276 totally agree with this, I love Goldfinger. Martin Campbell has some questionable films in repertoire, but the man perfectly reinvented Bond twice (first Goleneye, then Casino Royale), and that takes an amazing amount of skill
I tell you man. This guy is the best bond ever.
Completely agree with you !!!
The best!
It's Timothy Dalton.
One of my favourite Brosnan movies was the Tailor of Panama. A friend once commented that Pierce has never been in anything crap, which is quite a compliment. I've come to really appreciate Pierce Brosnan's acting - if I see his name on it, I know it will be entertaining.
Pierce Brosnan is such an underrated actor I remember the late to mid 90s an early 2000s u couldn't not turn on the TV without seeing him in some up an coming potentially great movie!
Best Bond ever IMO
Underrated is a nonsensical description. Everyone knows him. Literally you said you couldn't turn off TV without seeing him which is the opposite of underrated.
@@cellpat7392 That's how I first discovered him
I don't care what others think, for me HE is James Bond. When I was a teenager watching the James Bond movies of the time, it was Pierce Brosnan. Thanks for the memories
I grew up on his Bond movies too. But nope, face the facts. Craig is the best Bond.
Pierce Brosnan is best bond.
He was the worst bond in my opinion. Not even close to Connery or Roger. Very unconvincing bond. He looked more like a guy who was playing bond instead of being James Bond.
@@joewas2225 That's more of an opinion than a fact, my guy.
I so agree with you.....he and Daniel were the best 007,s
Love pierce Brosnan simply a fantastic actor and man. Being born in 1990 I grew up with his bond films and loved them as a kid and still enjoy them now. Hes such an established actor that just has a way about him that is so likeable, elegant and humble.
Since Remmington Seele Pierce Brosnan has been my absolute favorite actor, a true human, a great character and an idol. I wish I could have had 1% of his handsomeness, humility and humor. Pierce is an absolute unique exemplar of the human species. Nobody like him, nowhere...
Absolutely agreeeeee
Will always be my 007, him and Roger Moore, they had the style, the class and the one liners, while holding it down when needed. Don't care if they weren't the closest to the original book's character, they are how i imagined Bond would be in real life. Goldeneye is by far my favorite Bond's movie.
Agree wholeheartedly
Golden eye is awesome!!
Absolutely
GQ dropped the ball big time with this featurette. Remington Steele should have been featured first, as it introduced the entire world to Brosnan, and almost immediately fans were clamouring for him as Bond.
I could see a mid-30s, younger Brosnan in The Living Daylights and License to Kill.
Agreed!
💯
Wishing for repeats of Remington Steele
YES. IT was a perfect and well-rounded show. Michael Gleason was a legend.
It was also some great training for playing Bond since Steele had all the same personality traits
Not forgotten! Just look at how many of us here in the comments reference it :)
Exactly!
Me and my family still watch it to this day! Absolutely love that show.
Remington Steele was also iconic in my opinion....
Totally agree loved that show.
Yes!
I don't usually like remakes but Pierce's _The Thomas Crown Affair_ is so good! And he's such a grounded, marvelous human being.
I'm right with you on that. It was an excellent remake, one of the few that I can watch without even thinking of the original.
Remakes can be great. The Ocean's series is basically a remake as well.
@@spacemann1425 No fan of the original Oceans 11 will consider the remake and spinoffs to be anything other than CRAP. There was a magic to the original that can never be captured by anyone other than the legends who made it.
@@barcham The original was not only a great movie, it was really cool too. The remake was good enough but I felt it was trying too hard to be cool.
Loved, loved Thomas crown affair! I still watch it!
Been a massive Pierce Brosnan fan since Remington Steele and have watched almost all his movies. He’s had a lot of heartache in his life, so it’s nice to see him getting some of the recognition he deserves.
I cannot believe no one asked him about Remington Steele while filming this.
His impression of Robin Williams is just amazing.
I was shocked by that. I was randomly listening to this while cleaning the house, as suddenly the voice of Doubtfire AND Robin could be heard. It was so spot on, I had to grab my phone to see if it really was Brosnan doing the voice or if it was a clip they intersected into the video.
LOVE the surprise ending in Thomas Crown.
I love that he's honest about which films he really got something deeper out of and which ones he's like "I remember the paycheck" and "I liked that I got to fish a lot...beautiful scenery"!
Loved him as Remington Steele, as Bond, and so many other roles. So underrated and so humble and marvelous. And I loved Nomads.
Yes, Nomads was great. Remember The Lawnmower Man?
@@thealmancometh9219 Yes!
Watch The Fourth Protocol
@@strikerbowls791 Oh yeah, that's a good one!
Ya on the N64 🎮
No doubt, but I loved both.
I consider Goldeneye the best Bond movie with Casino Royale a close second. I just feel Goldeneye and Pierce capture the complete and best aspects of what Bond is and should be.
@@seanosuillebhean7495 I am so thankful it is coming to the Switch.
We need a updated graphics version for the Switch with multiplayer.
I'm surprised there was no talk of Remington Steele. It was definitely one of the key roles that jump-started his career.
He probably didn't want to talk about that, having gone on to do Bond.
I guess he doesn't have very fonds memories of that show after all he had to endure behind cameras.
I believe this was focused on his film roles only.
What a gentleman and a humble individual. True class act.
Pierce Brosnan is a gem. One of my favorite celebrities ever in person. Such a funny and kind man.
No Remington Steele? That was a really iconic character as well and he played it so well.
Saw him in Lawnmower Man and felt he should be James Bond. A few years later, he was. It was awesome because it felt like I picked him for it.
Dante’s Peak is an absolute fun 90s disaster movie with great special effects and probably the second most well known movie of Linda Hamilton 😂. It’s just a fun flick
It's one of the few geological disaster movies I can stomach, having been trained as a geologist LOL It's all Hollywood BS, but at least there's a nod to reality heh
One of my favourites
Pierce Brosnan is the Bond of my Generation and, to be honest, the best one in my opinion (and I watched all of the Bond Movies). Even I liked him in Dantes Peak, in the golden age of the 90s with Twister, Volcano, Armageddon and Independence Day.
007, Dantes Peak, Thomas Crown Affair.. 3 roles I watched growing up that solidified him as an actor I enjoy and truly appreciate, Thank you Mr Brosnan.
Met him whilst out for a drink. He’s a lovely guy, very polite and not at all bothered by me asking for a photo. Legend!
so he didn`t ask you to take photo with you?
such a humble man.. downplays everything he does and giving credit to people around him.
What a legend, his Bond movies were some of my favs. Also who can forget him singing in Mamma Mia?
Favorite movie he was in 😅
Pierce Brosnan is my favourite actor and childhood hero since I saw him as a little kid playing Rimington Steele. All love and respect to him
He is my ultimate crush and he seems to have a great personality, too. Thank you for featuring Pierce Brosnan.
A true Legend. Pierce is my favorite Bond of all time. Amazing actor. Can't wait to see him finally come back as Doctor Fate!
I totally agree with what you write about the mid to late nineties.
Rene's performance is underrated too.
As a fellow Irish man, I was so proud of him in Remington Steele, then in 86 the missed opportunity to be Bond was crushing, but his part in The Fourth Protocol made up for it. Still very proud of Pierce, God bless you
In 86 ?
@@lexkanyima2195 yea, 1986 he was Bond, before he had to pull out because of contract obligations to the t.v. series Remington Steele, then Dalton came in
@@peterfranks6243 ohh, so why he took 9 years to get the part ?
I saw him and his son at a lakers game many years ago, he was in the crowd as it was leaving the game. I was working with my partner, as we stopped to look into the crowd, I saw him and made eye contact, immediately recognizing him, he must have seen my face light up! I just waved and he waved back! It was the coolest moment! Such a great man!
grew up with Pierce as James Bond. always one of my favorite actors. between his Bond films, Dante's peak and Thomas Crown... great memories.
I’ve been waiting for this. His performance as James Bond was brilliant. Can’t wait to see Pierce Brosnan in Black Adam as Dr fate.
He was brilliant in Matador - he should have been Oscar nominated - that role really tapped his strengths, and brought something unique out of him - nobody else could have done that so well - if he pursues roles like that, with that combination of elements, he could develop into a great actor
Agreed!! I’ve never seen a better depiction of a man having a protracted nervous breakdown!! Oscar tier level acting!!
He already is!! Have you seen him in the tv serie The son ?
+1 The Matador is his best movie
He was snubbed big times
Drive by fruiting! Brings a tear of happiness and lump to the throat thinking of Robin working with Pierce. Two great actors.
Great actor! That kind of people you just simply like. Humble and simple spirit , my favorite bond.
He was so worried about properly portraying Bond. He did an outstanding job. To me, he has the perfect Bond look and manner.
I’ve loved Pierce since Remington Steele. Thank you for all the entertainment you’ve given me over my lifetime.
I agree 💯 with you!
I never knew him to be such humble and easy- going person! Great actor... I have developed a new sense of respect for him.
Pierce is my favourite bond grew up watching his bond films and playing the games. Pierce Brosnan will always be the real bond to me.
Still has that georgeous hair!He is also an incredible husband and Father,

I know it's looked down on, even apparently by Brosnan lol, but I'm glad he mentioned Nomads. It remains a favorite fun movie 🍿🍿🍿🍿
Pierce Brosnan is such an incredibly talented actor! He's always been one of my favorites. He seems like a good man too. Excellent interview! Thanks for sharing this 👍
What a guy!!!!!!!, what a legend!!!!!!! Pierce represents my youth. Goldeneye and Doubtfire were the two films that I watched over and over again, they are infinitely watchable.
I love Pierce Brosnan, and not only does he talk about his iconic roles, but how he also praises his fellow co-stars and their performances. I really look forward to seeing him play Dr. Fate in Black Adam.
Actually, Pierce brought a lot of physicality back to Bond in Goldeneye - that hand/hand fight with Trevalyan near the end was the wildest Bond had been in decades!
Pierce was perfect for Jamees Bond, I saw alql those particular movies and just loved him in each one...so handsome and charismatic!
