"Just clean it out call it good." Dude this was the best NO-BS, rapid fire video I've ever seen. You should be giving seminars on how to make videos on TH-cam. And to all the buffoon to make videos and talk about the weather and other totally unrelated stuff and have shaky cam and film their garage door while they're fixing an engine dot-dot. You need to watch this video and learn.
Great video! I don't have a Subaru, but thank-you so much for skipping all the chit-chat and profanities the other people have. No wonder you have so many subscribers!
Nice. Thanks bud. It's been a long time since I've worked on a small engine. The carbs always intimidated me a little. It's usually spark that gives me the most problems.
I'm new to engine repair. I see what all the components do but what is that one piece that has the metal shroud. The one that had the black cover with the icon of a hand with an X through it?
+KartFab i cant get mine to quit running full blast. do you have a email or cell i could send a pic of the carb linkage to see where its not hooked up right.
Hi , I have the same subaru x21 design as a water pressure pump . Can this design still be good to convert into a mini bike are go cart engine ? Some people are telling me water pump sometimes have short connecting rod and won't produce e eough rpm or torque to run a mini bike , is this true , what about this engine design , can it be done ? Thank you so much for your reply greatly ! Thank you !
I hade a carb problem on a robin ex27 9 hp and it seems I traded one problem for another, at idel I had to slowly give it gas to gain rpm if I just slamed on the throttle it would die, I did exactly as you did on your video n now the throttle response is perfect only now it runs at wide open throttle. everything looks normal I put all springs back the way they were but it's almost as if the the governor isn't working, any idea what I did wrong or what could of happend?
Idle pilot screw needs to be screwed all the way down note the twists before removing so you can replace it right. Also be very careful with needles they may be plastic and rubber tip rubber tips will be destroyed very easily if you are not careful
i recently started working at a small engine shop and i use welding tip cleaners to clean the main jet in all the carbs i rebuild!! just a heads up if your carbs jets are very dirty!
KartFab it's more like a rounded file like a rat tail file if you k ow what that is!! I use it all time and it works great, try it out for ya self if ya want to!!
Very nice video! I bought a Predator engine from HF last year. This year it will start and run a few seconds and die. After a few minutes it will do the same thing again. Any Ideas? thanks David
my kart only starts when I prime the cylinder but once that is prime is gone it dies. I think it might be a carb issue but not sure. I cleaned the carb but didn't take it apart like in this video . what do you think?
Hey +KartFab, I have a Predator 212 from HF and I've been having an issue with it shaking and coming close to dying/putts a lot after throttling. Can you help please?
if its almost dying after throttle, and everything else is fine, you need to adjust the idle speed screw. It is a black plastic screw that sits on top of the carb. Turn it clockwise (after engine is warmed up and choke is off) until the idle is where you want it( which is usually ~1650 rpm)
can you please help. my son's gokart is leaking gas from the air filter. when I turn the gas lever on, from the gas tank to the gas filter to the carburetor, alot of gas leaks out and continues to leak out from the air filter. is this a bad carburetor? TIA
open the bowl from the carburetor. Check the float (usually round plastic thing) shake it to make sure there is no gas inside. Next, check the needle (thing that is attached to the float) it has a pointed tip, that tip needs to push up against a round seat. When you have gas leaking out of the air filter it is because the float is full of gas or the needle is not seating properly to keep the gas out.
My go-cart is brand new and I can't remember the size and it will not start it's getting gas and the compression is good and the plug is getting all kinds of fire..it will sling spark good please please help me I am witts end with this thing
Sounds like you introduced a new problem. With the engine not connected to a remote throttle cable does it do the same thing? Do you have a throttle return spring? Set on manual throttle or remote?
+KartFab no the engine is sitting on my bench with nothing connected to it, I could be wrong but isn't the govenor hold the throttle open when engine off and when the engine is started the govenor closes the throttle? the govenor pulls the throttle open and runs the engine wide open..in the end of your video I noticed before you start your engine the gov holds the throttle open when you pull start it the gov closes the throttle. mines doesn't do that. there's no resistance from the govenor to close the throttle? I'm stumped by this condition because it started doing that after I disconnected the throttle linkage from the carb.. great video by the way I got into carts not to long ago and your you visit are very helpful
hmmm... double check linkages, check users manual. You didn't mess with the governor arm did you? E.g. the arm connected to the governor shaft in the engine. The governor holds the throttle WIDE OPEN on start up, that is what it is designed to do. Once the engine starts, the throttle lever controls the throttle butterfly, and the governor does not really do anything until 3600 rpms, where it begins to close throttle as you can see in the video. It would not hunt like this under load though.
+Carter Scott robin subaru is the name/brand. You probably have an idle issue. There is a screw on the carb that keeps the carb butterfly from moving all the way closed, try adjusting that first. It could be a clutch problem too.
Ever heard or soaking the carb in diesel fuel to help loosen the gunk? I heard that helps but I'm not sure. I might try soaking it overnight then taking it apart like in your video the next day.
+Aaron Spencer I have only cleaned carbs with carb cleaner and some elbow grease. I have heard, that boiling them in lemon juice works too though (never tried it).
Yeah the Briggs flathead? Totally different. Those are pretty easy to clean though. Just gotta watch out for cracks in the pick up tube and there is a rubber piece inside that gets stiff with age that sometimes needs replacement. It helps pump fuel in.
Mico Perez carb got varnish..or else bad gas or plug or blocked.fuel line..replace the plug, fuel line add an inline filther clean the carb guarantee it will fire right up.and no more deposits in carbs because inline filther catches it..
back in the old days when they made kerosene for lamps, the byproduct was gasoline. they had no use for it so they dumped in the river. his little bit of gas on the ground makes zero impact. get over yourself.
chickenisjus2good Sorry about that, I would rather be concise and to the point than draw it out and waste everyone's time. Hope that makes sense. Did you have a problem with your carburetor and fixed it? Let me know if you have any questions.
Beautifully done video, no BS just right to the important stuff!
@Cierra Smallwood shut up cierra
very good video, glad you weren't around when I was making money doing this.
Makes a 4 minute video for something that could easily take a whole semester at a tech school

1:05 and people worry about the couple drips you get at the fuel pump getting gas, haha!
More gas pours out the tailpipe at traffic lights
Awesome video, was able to get my engine running based on tips off this video. NO BS video, right to the point.
Nice. Thanks bud. It's been a long time since I've worked on a small engine. The carbs always intimidated me a little. It's usually spark that gives me the most problems.
Glad to help
Great video for small motor carbs....to the point!
Thank you straight to the good parts , got the job done
This video is extremely concise and well done. Nice!
Impressed with your format! Great stuff.
Thanks! Now I know how to clean my Carburetor and how to do it correctly. So many Freaking tiny Parts.
Bing bam boom. Great video. Short and to the point
just came here to see where the funny lil spring from the govenr goes, great pic's of all things fuel on these EX motors. Thanks
But, to avoid all of this just use sta-bil in your gas.
Great video. My pressure washer works now.
I'm new to engine repair. I see what all the components do but what is that one piece that has the metal shroud. The one that had the black cover with the icon of a hand with an X through it?
metal shroud with hand X? Probably muffler. ITs hot when running. Dont put your hand on it.
short, sweet, and home to eat!
great video!
Solid video, soothing voice. My kart starts every time, idles nice, but when I give it gas, it dies. Is this a carb issue?
+Kyle Woods what you are describing is a lean condition. Usually the main jet is partially clogged, so you need to clean it.
+KartFab
i cant get mine to quit running full blast. do you have a email or cell i could send a pic of the carb linkage to see where its not hooked up right.

+Joeblow Johnny crankshaft may have issues with taper or length. If it’s a straight crank you should be ok

When putting the auto pilot back in is there an adjustment on it or are you just tighten it down
Auto pilot? Main is a screw, idle just pushes in on some carbs, screws in on others
@Kartfab; do you happen to know if someone makes an aftermarket air filter kit similar to the Predator type?
Not sure but you can also just get a pvc pipe end cap and drill it out and slap a filter on it :-)
i recently started working at a small engine shop and i use welding tip cleaners to clean the main jet in all the carbs i rebuild!! just a heads up if your carbs jets are very dirty!
+Ryan Charyk nice! Are they the little bristles?
KartFab it's more like a rounded file like a rat tail file if you k ow what that is!! I use it all time and it works great, try it out for ya self if ya want to!!
+Ryan Charyk got it.
If ya use it let me know how it works for ya!!!!
i noticed that the jets have a super tiny hole..does it matter when putting it back together where they end up pointing at?
No it does not matter since it is a cylinder. Just use the right size screwdriver and do not over torque since it is brass.
Very nice video! I bought a Predator engine from HF last year. This year it will start and run a few seconds and die. After a few minutes it will do the same thing again. Any Ideas?

dirty carb
Nice video, is this process similar for a Honda GX240 engine.
Yes very similar.
my kart only starts when I prime the cylinder but once that is prime is gone it dies. I think it might be a carb issue but not sure. I cleaned the carb but didn't take it apart like in this video . what do you think?
+Will Loubriel fuel delivery problem.
Hey +KartFab, I have a Predator 212 from HF and I've been having an issue with it shaking and coming close to dying/putts a lot after throttling. Can you help please?
any mods? did you let it warm up? choke on or off?
No mods. I did for several minutes with choke on. I think it may be running too rich because when I checked the plug it was sooty.
if its almost dying after throttle, and everything else is fine, you need to adjust the idle speed screw. It is a black plastic screw that sits on top of the carb. Turn it clockwise (after engine is warmed up and choke is off) until the idle is where you want it( which is usually ~1650 rpm)

Kill switch engaged? Spray a tiny bit of carb cleaner in it and see if you can get it to turn over
I half to hold the throttle closed by hand if I let it go the govenor springs back open
Sounds like you introduced a new problem. With the engine not connected to a remote throttle cable does it do the same thing? Do you have a throttle return spring? Set on manual throttle or remote?

Is there a cheap gas tank that a fits Robin Subaru EX27 10 hp because the replacement part is 80 dollars
+Dr_joe_smo 24 unfortulately, the subaru engine replacement parts are prohibitively expensive.
You can probably make a cheap chinese tank fit if you work on it a little.
What’s the stuff you are spraying to clean the parts?
Carb cleaner
I put the carb cleaner in the carb well it was running
hi i cant remove the bolt from the middle
+Gaming_Volt make sure the screwdriver fits
KartFab thanks i did it
KartFab but before i remove to clean the carb it was accelerating but it self
KartFab why it accelerates by it self
KartFab hello I got a question why it accelerates by it self
New to small engines. What is the breather tube?
+anti2planker valve cover vents through the breather tube. Most new engines have this tube vent back into the carb.
i have a engine on my go kart just like this but its called a robin i cleaned the carb but when it starts it takes off by itself
+Carter Scott robin subaru is the name/brand. You probably have an idle issue. There is a screw on the carb that keeps the carb butterfly from moving all the way closed, try adjusting that first. It could be a clutch problem too.
ok thx
on the throttle butteryfly it pushed back instead of staying in the front
I have same exact engine what oil does it take and how much does it take thank you
+Robert West that info should be in the users manual
Robert West 4 cyle oil,10-30 is also.fine..just.dont over fill.
My go cart it turns over fine but it doesnt go and the clutch does nothing is this a carb problem
And yes it is a subaru
It just idles
Yea I’m A beginner go latter and I think I’m gonna let someone do this for me lol so much steps
Help, my pocket bike runs and revs but will not move. Any help??
clutch? revs high enough:?
What are you using to spray it? WD-40 or a special spray?
carburetor cleaner
+KartFab thanks
You deserve more subs!
They will come eventually. I'll just keep chugging along recording what I think is interesting, and what I love to do!
how much gas did you waste?
More than you can afford
Ever heard or soaking the carb in diesel fuel to help loosen the gunk? I heard that helps but I'm not sure. I might try soaking it overnight then taking it apart like in your video the next day.
+Aaron Spencer I have only cleaned carbs with carb cleaner and some elbow grease. I have heard, that boiling them in lemon juice works too though (never tried it).
Great video. Thanks.
I was so confused for a second cause I have an older Briggs
Yeah the Briggs flathead? Totally different. Those are pretty easy to clean though. Just gotta watch out for cracks in the pick up tube and there is a rubber piece inside that gets stiff with age that sometimes needs replacement. It helps pump fuel in.
thank you, great explanation & video!
That was nice informational thanks helped alot
+gun talk and builds no problem
will do. thank you for the help.
no problem
+KartFab i have a problem with my baja mini bike 196 it will start then it will bogg out or will not start at all any suggestions??
clean the carb
Mico Perez carb got varnish..or else bad gas or plug or blocked.fuel line..replace the plug, fuel line add an inline filther clean the carb guarantee it will fire right up.and no more deposits in carbs because inline filther catches it..
Great job.
Very helpful ...!!
Thank you!
Geez dude. Pour the gas into a container. Every time it rains all that gas makes it to the ground and sewer
back in the old days when they made kerosene for lamps, the byproduct was gasoline. they had no use for it so they dumped in the river. his little bit of gas on the ground makes zero impact. get over yourself.
Thanks very helpful
Exact engine I needed help with
glad i could help
Thanks
didnt show how to get the freaking float bowl off. That is really ticky and would be good to show slowly
This is a good video. Could go a bit slower as my brain is slower.
chickenisjus2good Sorry about that, I would rather be concise and to the point than draw it out and waste everyone's time. Hope that makes sense. Did you have a problem with your carburetor and fixed it? Let me know if you have any questions.
There's a setting where you can play the video slower lol
Thanks Dad
Professional..
what if it ain't kno Subaru motor
+Dean Collins most carbs are very similiar
yeahh they is
8 out of 10
nice to see all that fuel just end up on the driveway into the gutters...
It evaporates
Still Cant I Broke Mine In Half Last Night When I Jumped It XD
your carb?
Got a yerf dog go kart
Tecumseh engine?
You Smoke??
+Victor linerio no

Try not to hit your cameraaaaaa
This video didn’t really help me
Why did you need to say this exactly?
