Did my engine oil, tranny oil, and refreshed my cabin/engine filter (K&N) yesterday in about 2 hours. Nothing more satisfying than knowing the job got done right! Thanks for these tutorials!
Beautiful Detailed presentation & Illustration. Thank you 🙏. You are the only one ☝️ I’ve watched that shows the overfill drain plug. Perfect 👌. Crucial information ℹ️ most are missing
Valvoline CVT fluid is great stuff. I've actually noticed better response with Valvoline. I've done several drain and fills to get all the hcf-2 out, and the CVT responds very well to Valvoline. Highly recommend.
I had my fluids changed on 2015 CR-V recently. Had I known it was this easy to do the tranny, I would have done mine. Next time! Glad you have a 2015 like mine and, I look forward to your other videos.
I actually did a change of all my filters as well, the one behind the transmission fluid cooler and the one in the sump. So if you do this, tranny's going to take a lot more than 4.5 quarts. It actually took me around 5.75 quarts to fill it back up to where the fluid was consistently running out of the fluid level check plug.
Very detailed, but I'm going to use Honda fluids and parts I can by cheaper online. As far as the magnetic plug goes I'll soak it in solvent use clear tape and remove what was on the plug. Put it on a sheet of white paper so I can have a good look at it. Did the same on the magnetic plugs of turbine engines.
@Adam Holbrook gotcha, my prices were from Southern California and now here in Oregon the Honda dealer is more than an hour drive..so the non OEM is still cheaper for me
1. Measure take out 4 put in 4 2. Run CRV CVT for 1 day 3. Engine cold CVT cold add 1/2 qt 4 Remove over fill bolt let excess drip out. (cold CRV CVT) If no drips Install bolt and repeat steps 3-4

I don’t have a jack but only ramp that is used to do an oil change. You think that should be fine to get the vehicle up for the transmission fluid change as well? My concern is - should the vehicle be level on the ground while draining? If not I drain and fill 4.5 quarts while it’s up, start/shift gears and then get the vehicle off of the ramp. Come off the ramp and now whilst on the floor level, I somehow need to squeeze myself in and remove the level nut to drain out that little fluid like you did. Thoughts?
That should work, I can get under it when it's not jacked up at all. I also removed all of the vanity plastic under the front so I can actually work on it and check for leaks. The reason for the vehicle being level is just to fill it to the proper level.
Yes there is, but I believe you only change that if you take the cooler off and I'm not sure what the service interval would be on that or if its only when there are issues. If you know feel free to share. For just the standard 30k-ish mile fluid change you do not change it. As per the honda manual.

So did u have to wait till the steady stream slowed to dripping from the check bolt before placing it back?
A little bit flows I to the passage way when filling so when you pull the plug you get a little out. What your looking for is it to flow out of the drain plug not a trickle
Ei man thanks for the video. Iam thinking doing and i found your video and its gonna be helpful. I just want to ask, your crv wasnt park on a level ground. Will that matter checking the fluid on the check bolt? Thank you and new subscriber here!
No problem, it being off level a bit won't be that big of an issue. If it is severe it could throw the level off. I would shoot for as level as you can get it.

That transmission doesn't take 4.5 quarts it take 3.9 look at your owners manual u shouldn't be using that fluid either the honda hcf2 is only used for that pacific honda cvt transmission
Mine says 4.5 and the honda manual says 4.5 maybe we have different transmissions. Also, honda does say to only use the honda HCF2 only but I explain in the video, that other manufacturers make equivalent fluids that I have never had an issue with. 120k+ miles. How is your honda running with the valvoline fluid? I have the same car with 83k on it and I'm just finding out that this has to be done at 30k to 40k so I'm desperately trying to get my fluid ready and all I can find is the valvoline so this is why I'm asking you how yours is doing with the valvoline. Thank you for your video buddy. 👍
Sorry for the late response it runs fine with it. The Acura brand is more available in my area than the honda, and it's the same stuff part number ends in an A instead of an H
Actually, there Is a filter on the side that is hard to get to, if you google "transmission filter 2015 crv" you will see the filter available. Should be changed every other trans fluid change ,, why put new fluid with an old dirty filter !! Most mechanics dont even know about the filter
I know about that filter, but I have never seen a service interval on it. It's behind the fluid cooler. I may change mine next time I do a coolant and cvt oil change.
Follow up question. So I replaced mine about a month or so ago. And it works great, but how come everytime I go for a drive and park, I smell a little bit of the valvoline tranny fluid? Is that something to worry about? The car seems to shift great and I don’t see any leaks. And pretty sure filled it up with the right amount
@@jjsdiygarage1267 it wasnt the drain plug.. i saw it. idk why it gotten loose, but its the upper "sensor" not sure which sensor that was for, but when i checked it, it was leaking from that sensor. do you happen to know which sensor that one is? theres 2 of em near the tranny, one lower and one upper with 27mm which i tighten and seem to stop the leak when i turn the vehicle on. when i turned it on earlier the leak was clear it was coming from that sensor, weird that it gotten loose though.

FYI - I bought 5qts of Honda CVT tranny fluid and a crush washer for my 2015 CRV AWD at the local dealer and it was about $78 15 Feb 2023.
Good to know. Last time I tried to get it they wanted over $20 per qt. I think it depends on your state.
Cincinnati Ohio, I think it varies dealer to dealer here too.
@Adam Holbrook gotcha, my prices were from Southern California and now here in Oregon the Honda dealer is more than an hour drive..so the non OEM is still cheaper for me
On my 2019 CRV which I bought new, there is a 10mm crush washer on oil check bolt.
Yes, most oil plugs do, you are "supposed " to change it when you re install it...
We have a 2015 crv with 52k. Just now got the trans oil change
Nice
Cuántos litros lleva?
4 ish. Purchase 5
1. Measure take out 4 put in 4
2. Run CRV CVT for 1 day
3. Engine cold CVT cold add 1/2 qt
4 Remove over fill bolt let excess drip out. (cold CRV CVT)
If no drips
Install bolt and repeat steps 3-4
Valvoline is more than likely better than the hcf-2 honestly. I'm using it in my 2019 civic coupe ex-t with zero issues.
Thanks for the video. Can you reuse drain plug old washer?
You are technically not supposed to..I do itall thetime though and never had a leak. Just keep an eye on it for a couple days.
Hey Brother
Thank you for this video,
Do I need to check the fluid with the engine running?
Thanks
No you do not. I fill it till it drains, do the shift procedure, then drive it around. Pull the check bolt and fill 1 more time.
From what I've seen, we don't need to heat up everything until the fan comes on and then check the CVT fluid after expansion?
Great video Budd 👍
Good informative run through.
