    dad passed last year, never learned how to work properly on cars while he was alive just snippets of everything. videos like this help fill in specific gaps now that i get doing it yourself instead of servicing out

    Fantastic, been doing these for 40 years and still learned something especially when it came to the moisture gunk.

    I've been changing my own oil for 40 years. Yep that's how you do it. Regarding the white deposits on the underside of the oil fill cap and moisture getting in your oil. That can be caused by taking short drives in your car. Some people only have a few minutes drive to work and the engine never gets hot enough to prevent the moisture. Run your engine for a half hour or even longer 2 or 3 times per week to prevent moisture build up. Also, change your oil and filter every 3 or 4 thousand miles.

    Alot of newer cars call for 7500 to 10000 miles between oil changes for "normal " conditions. Read the extreme conditions and chances are that is what most people are driving. Short trips. Delivery service like uber /food delivery. Stop and go traffic. Best to change the oil more often than changing the engine. Routine oil changes are the easiest cheapest and most important of all

    What about letting the oil settle back to the pan before checking the level? If the oil is still draining down , you will get a false level reading!

    4.6 liters of oil with filter change. I just drive up on 2 2x10 boards stacked on each other. Perfect height to do an oil change. Use the Honda oil filter wrench (07AAA-PLCA100 Wrench Filter 65Mm), replace the crush washer, torque the drain plug to 30ft pounds. And use the OEM oil filter. I use Royal Purple oil 0w-20, not cheap but good stuff. Change Done.

      What you are forgetting is this mechanic was using a lift so the car was level. You were using ramps so the front was higher than the back. This allows slightly more old oil to drain out which means more oil to refill. His numbers are correct for level ground oil change.

    Per the manual, always change the oil every 3K miles if you drive under extreme conditions, which include driving under 55, de-iced roads, dusty roads, and trips under 5 miles or 10 miles in the winter

    that water is probably from the oil dilution. water in with the gasoline and the engine not getting up to temperature for a extended period of time

    I know viscosity has to be with old weight and the characteristics of how it behaves when cold and when Hot, Mine specific car uses 0-W40. But that said can I fill the car for a different viscosity cheap oil just to flush the engine, Drive it for 50 miles and thn change out the oil and filter with the correct oil viscosity.
    I want to do a partial drain and then add oil with wrong viscosityand drive it a bit and then do a complete oil change

    Normally also have to add oil to compensate for oil taken up in the filter.

    • @njsongwriter

      The oil taken up by the filter is already figured in the owner's manual which is why the manual list the capacity with or without a filter change.

    I wouldn’t buy any Honda CR-V after the 2014 model which was the last one that had a fuel rail versus the 2015 and later Honda CR-V with the Earth Dreams Engines which have a pressurized fuel direct injection which the fuel gets past the rings and mixes with the oil. Honda is making a big design flaw with the Earth Dreams Motors. Also their CVT transmission in the 2015 and later Honda CR-V are a big mistake. In the future I will purchase a Toyota which uses a better CVT system and better more reliable fuel system.

    • @bruceskousen5451
      @bruceskousen5451 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Honda CVTs have been just as reliable as Toyota’s. Keep in mind that the transmission fluid needs to be changed more frequently in CVTs.

      LOL, well my 2015 Honda Crv just turned 110k and is running as smooth as a top. Basic maintenance and some of these CVT Earth Dream CRvs are going well over 200k miles. Not to mention that I paid $13k for my 2015 Crv Ex before pandemic with 65K miles. I can sell it now for more than I paid with the additional 45k miles I put on it. The 2014 standared automatic transmissions actually had some shuddering issues. But people just talk without really knowing what they are saying.
