  • I'll show you the correct way to do a drain and fill transmission service on your CVT equipped 2015-up Honda CR-V. This applies to both the late 4th gen and 5th gen CRV's. If you have an AWD model you will need 4.5 qts of HCF-2 fluid. If you have a 2wd CRV you will need about 3.9qts.
    You can buy the products used below (Amazon Paid Links)
    5 pack (qt) HCF-2 amzn.to/3F3cXnq
    1 qt. HCF-2 amzn.to/3gwOm17
    20 pack crush washers amzn.to/3AN9Pth

    Just did my wifes CRV a few days ago. Used a couple 2x6 boards to level car. Pulled the check bolt and a a little dribbled out so good to know it was full then pulled drain plug. After that i cleaned the plug nothing abnormal installed new crush washer and torqued it. I put the check plug in. I then poured what i drained out into my 6 quart oil container that is marked. Got it at walmart cause i get the 12 quart mobil 1 box. And it was exactly 4.5 quarts. Dumped in 4.5 plus a splash then pulled check bolt and let it dribble. Reinstalled bolt tighten then cycled through gears few seconds each gear a couple times. Then took it for a hot lap. Drives better than it did. Use genuine Honda fluids. CVTs are a different animal and very picky. My wifes car is a 2015 with just under 55k. And the light just came on a month ago. Next one ill do is at 80 k regardless of mauntence minder

      My wife’s 2015 has 165,000+. I’ve done 5 or maybe six CVT drain and fills, but the last one I pulled the pan, cleaned the magnets, changed the Filter/screen. It was a relatively easy and painless job. I installed a Honda pan gasket and filter. I’ve used several synthetic brands over the years. None were Honda, but all had the appropriate rating. Now using Eneos and changing it every 15-20K miles. It takes exactly one gallon. Runs like it did when we bought it at 1.5 years old and had 21,000 miles. About to install new ignition coils, just due to age and miles. Every belt, hose, fluid gets changed before it needs it. Even did a valve lash adjustment at 160,000! Never seen a dealership or oil change stealership since we bought it. No oil burning between changes, but I usually change it before it hits 5K miles. Longest interval was 6K and 30% showing on the maintenance minder. I use SuperTech full synthetic mostly, and I mix 0w20 & 5w30 50/50 ratio except in winter. PureOne filters air and oil. Denso TT iridium plugs. Autozone lifetime brakes!😊

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone

      @yashshah6328 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know that I'd want to mix fluids because CVTs are pretty persnickety and you should avoid flushing them for any reason unless you absolutely have to. I like Amsoil products too, but CVTs will pretty much self-destruct if you aren't very careful with them.

    Should use a torque wrench and not guess on proper torque. Those aluminum pan thread strips easily. I did that on my oil pan and had a loose bolt than would not seal. I had to rush to a mechanic to replace my oil pan before I lose too much oil. After that, always use a torque wrench.

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone
      @JackofAllMasterofNone  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Some of us have done this a long time and have a "built in" torque wrench. It's just like any other learned, repetitive skill. But nonetheless good advice for most amateur DIY folks.

      I have not cleaned it. They do not get dirtier with GDI. Some throttle bodies aren't supposed to be cleaned because they have a special coating on them so research it first before you do it. Also, being an electronic throttle body will make it hard since you can't open the throttle blade.
