Clayton! You are the man! I have been racking my brain for 4 weeks now! Reading forums! Running through everything on the bike! Nothing would work! It was running like crap backfiring and not idling right and would just die once it was off choke. Cleaned the carb and changed jets like no other! And I totally forgot about the needle! Changed the needle and looked at that plate and it was upside down! Sucker runs so smooth now and after reshimming it runs even better! Thank you so much!
Doing this to both my 2001 yz426f and wr250f. This is the best detailed video out there. So many tiny mistakes you can make if you dont pay attention to detail. My midbodies had 2mm allen screws inside float bowl and 2.5mm allen outer carb.
Hey Clayton Thank you for videos as they have helped me with my build, With no mechanical experience I have followed your videos. I had a riding weekend after a 6 month build and bike did not miss a beat. I bought bike not going did a total rebuild. I found your videos more informative than anyone else's on here. Thanks again m8
Rebuilt my YZ426 carb and thought I was done, bike still runs like crap and won't kick start, adjusting valves and buying this kit because the mid carb was so tarnished when I took it back out. Thanks for the vid.
Well I cleaned the carb really well and blew out all the air/fuel passages. I went from a 178 main jet to a 172 and 42 pilot. Installed gaskets , mid body as well. Note; the needles from Jd jetting are the exact length as the stock needle! I changed my fuel pump diaphragm and did the mod jd recomends a little shim that goes on top of the diaphragm nipple. New twinair air cleaner.........I just started up and adjusted the air:fuel mixture and idle ,i filled the fuel bowl and tested it🤣🤣🤣 it niw shouts fuel like an injector😂 it started rait up and runs like a CHAMP 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽 Thank you fir your vid ..they helped a lot! Oh...🐒..go KTM! They are super well built bikes,! Note; clean and blow out the area where the needle sits, even good to polish that area for perfect needle/seat action😃 ,also there are two really small holes in that recess that need to get blown out with compressed air, also good to blow out the idle circuit areas as well🤙🏽
Great job Clayton. The only thing I would add is to polish the float valve seat. I never did it either but had a leak, watched a video where a guy took Brasso on a Q Tip in a drill and polished the seats bore at a low speed. I think he cut the Q Tip in half which is good since I could then use my Dremel tool and adjust the speed. If you have a screw next to your seat it is removable like mine. Good since you can change the O-Ring and clean the screen filter that's on the seat. Liked and subscribed!
Hey man, I just rebuilt the carb on my 2004 yz250f. The bike was running at the end of last season but I decided to rebuild the carb this spring cuz I knew it needed to be done. Only reason it ran last season was because I had a family friend clean the carb and he recommended it be rebuilt. Anyways I’ve rebuilt the carb and now replaced the fuel petcock but I can’t seem to get the bike tuned right to idle well. Just wants to die on me unless I keep it alive with the throttle. I could really use some advice as this is the first bike I’ve ever had. Would rather not have to wait to get it into a shop and pay big bucks for what I truly believe is just a tuning issue. Please let me know what you think I’d really appreciate it!!!
Hey man thanks for the comment! Have you tried adjusting the idle screw and fuel screw? It could also be a valve lash issue if that hasn’t been done in a while.
Great video. I've got the 2005 wr450 runs great but pops a lot on decel I'm at a 170 Main and 48 pilot should I go up on the pilot a few sizes? Thank you
It would be very helpful if you actually showed the camera what parts you are dropping into the bottom of carb before u screw them in, so we can see which goes where. I am grateful for you making this video, had a guy come over that claimed he could rebuild my carb and took it all apart without me being present and failed. Now I'm trying to piece together what he took apart. 😮💨
Good video and very informative. Just a note I think you put the slide plate seal on the wrong way round. It is designed to push the plate way from the slide 👍
FANTASTIC how-to between this and the first vid on the tear down! I feel super confident now. I’m very mechanically inclined but carbs can still be intimidating. Especially slightly more complicated ones like these. What do you recommend for new vent line? Also, do the all balls rebuild kits include the 3 o-rings for the fuel inlet fitting where the fuel supply line hooks up? Thanks Also liked and subbed ;)
Hey Jason thanks for the comment! For the o-rings on the fuel inlet I would just order the OEM ones from a parts supplier as they aren’t to my knowledge in the kit. The vent line is any 1/8” line, but there are places online to get different colored vent line. Hope this helped
@@claytonmotos2816 yeah, dumb question on the vent line. Found it on Amazon 2 minutes after I commented. Was definitely curious on those o-rings for fuel fitting though. I want to replace mine. Since you had extra o-rings left over, I was wondering if those were perhaps for that fuel fitting. Thanks for the reply!
Those o-rings from the kit weren’t the right ones. The OEM part number is 3TJ-14564-40-00 and i remember having to order them separately. Hope this helps!
So if you want to show something really interesting, show us how the accelerator linkage comes out of the main body and how it goes back together. I think you cleaned the main body without taking it fully apart. I can’t figure it out either.
where did you get your rebuild kit? what parts were needed for the rebuild? i bought a kit from All Ballz Racing but it doesn't have all the gaskets to do a full rebuild.
hey there great vid few questions if you dont mind i have 09' wr450f it always works super lean no matter what 5th gear bogging all the time and no power what so ever it has yzf450 exhaust airbox and gray wire mod should i install the stock size starter and pilot and leak jet that comes with the kit ? thank you in advance
If I were you I would install YZ450F jets and maybe take the needle up one clip position to increase the fuel flow at wide open throttle. It’ll take some tuning so you might want to pick up a jet kit as well to play around with the jetting. Good luck!
Okay so after much research yamaha managed to track down my bike information, I have a 03/04 frame and a late 04 early 05 engine, it has a five speed box not a 4 speed the engine is a yz450fs or a 5xd4 but it's a unciculated engine as the engine serial number doesn't show up on their databases. The real question is... do I buy a 04 carby kit or a 05 kit or a 06 kit or a 03 kit lol and what if any differences would there be between them?
Buy whichever kit you have a carburetor for. After that rebuild the carb and put it on. A carburetor’s purpose is the same no matter when it was made so it should work for your set up as long as it was originally a YZ450F carb. Hope this helps.
Most of the parts should be interchangeable. The jetting and needle may be different so keep the old parts to compare them to the new ones before reinstalling!

Thanks for the video man I watch a couple and still had some parts left over and was like wtf.. you were very detailed so I got it all back together

Yes. This video is pretty much universal to all Keihin FCR carburetors!

hi congratulations for the video where I can buy the gasket kit for the Keihin. grasie I await your kind reply
Answer me this if anyone knows but these carbs look all the same on these 450 bike from one brand of bike to another. Are they all the same brand?
6:19 slide gasket is mounted backward as it shoulds
The bike ran fantastic with no issues. Thanks for your concern!!
good job
Any reason why you didnt change the seat out with the new needle?

Will 06 yz450f carb work on a 08 model engine?
The OEM part numbers are different for them so it may take some additional tuning.

The stock needle is not what you want the taper on it is to dramatic. That's why JE sends you a choice.

All after market junk. Yamaha made Japan parts are expensive for a reason.
so much complexity........and they didnt even use a proper emulsion tube.
At 4:46 when measuring the needle , your measurement should have been from clip position to the tip not from the top to bottom of needle !!
Great video otherwise
Just trying to show the overall difference in length for a kit that claims to send the stock needle.
@@claytonmotos2816 still got to send the correct message , right ?
Which is the aftermarket needle may be correct !!
Your washers are the wrong way around mate. Steel washer goes against the carb body then the teflon. No biggie.
