    You, the Wynn’s and Nahoa continue to define what sailing is meant to be. Exploring far away places. Just like the early sailors ages ago Thank you so much.

    What an amazing accomplishment to sail from the Caribbean to the arctic circle. What a rush!
    The views are amazing and each one is better than the last. I can imagine the challenge of capturing an image which matches the emotion you're having in the moment. Coupled with your descriptions, you've gotten us pretty close.
    "He's wrong! This is the kind of place you bring a bottle of wine" Laughed pretty good when you said that after Matt said water would be fine. Matt better address your picnic craving soon!!
    Cute Game of Thorns reference.
    What a great perspective. This cliffs absolutely dwarf those houses.
    That was an amazing shot you got of the fog coming in around that hill/rock. So calm and crisp cold.
    Still loving your music selections.

    Again, thank you for taking us along. You do a phenomenal job of putting us into the locations with you, and I greatly appreciate all the work you put into your videos. I'm 56 and taking care of my disabled wife, so the chance of me ever seeing these places are virtually nill... but your videos are the next best thing. Stay safe. And don't forget home is still Michigan! Ken, from TC.

      We've been paying cash for most things and chucking the receipts in the bin for the past year, but since our mental tally isn't as good as one on paper, we've decided to get back in the habit of keeping an accurate accounting of our spending down to the penny. The good thing is that we can then post it on the videos :)

    You should write a children's book series about traveling the world from Georgie's point of view. Possible title, "Georgie the the sailor cat sails around Norway." Or any of the places you have traveled. You could use your TH-cam channel videos for each of the books. You could do several on just the Azores. Just a thought.

    Shellback when you cross the equator, Blue Nose when you cross the Arctic Circle. I see you crossed the front of Vestfjored. The US Navy's plan for the defending NATO on the Northern flank called for operating an aircraft carrier inside this fjiord. There is plenty of deep water and room to both launch and recover aircraft. I went on 2 deployments there to practice taking on the Russians. Along with other NATO Navy, the Air Forces of Norway it was the neatest place. The water is so deep that we could hide the entire battle group in the mountains.

    • @MiQBohlin
      @MiQBohlin 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as the waves are less than 4 meters/13 feet Vestfjord is a nice place.

    • @BjrnOttoVasbottenbjovas
      @BjrnOttoVasbottenbjovas 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vestfjorden could be a very nice area to operate for a carrier group as its not so much a fjord as just a more shielded peace of sea between Lofoten and the mainland where it could also be assisted by lighter norwegian assets such as dieselelectic submarines and patrol vessels and also NATO air power operating out of Andøy, Bodø or even Iceland. Would not want to be among the people dodging soviet submarines to get there though!

    That is quite the achievement reaching the arctic circle. I recall when you told us of your goal and I wasn’t sure you’d ever make it. Shows you what I know.
    I’m curious about how accurate the charts are for that corner of the world. With all the fiords, channels and obstructions, are you confident with the navigational aids? What about anchoring depths and bottom materials? Do you know what type of bottom you are trying to set your anchor in?

    • @mattjohnson6716
      @mattjohnson6716 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The chats were as perfect as I've ever seen in any area we've travelled. Navionics pulls all their data from the Norwegian government charts, and since they are such a seafaring nation, there wasn't a spot that we found any discrepancy with reality. -Matt

      When we're at anchor, Georgie is allowed to freely roam the deck, and she has good enough balance that we don't worry about her falling off. When the boat is moving though, we try to keep her below deck, or if she wants to be outside, she has on a harness and is clipped into a leash that does not let her out of the cockpit. 😉

    Guys, I am loving your adventure and following you since I found you in the beautiful Açores. I like your way of sharing with us the magic of cruising. There is one only thing that worries me everytime I see your boat. That radar antenna at the stern is located almost at your head's height. These device's Electro Magnetic Pulses are not something to be exposed, specially at such close distance to your bodies. Please research about EMF exposure health risk and place the antenna higher up in the mast i.e. We would like to enjoy fun and healthy people as you crusing around for ever.

      Thanks Julio. The radom is mounted on an extending pole to raise the unit an additional 2' when running. Even at the height it sits when dropped, the angle is well within the guidelines of the unit.... as long as we don't stand on the cockpit seats.

    I believe you meant to say Kristiansund and not Kristiansand. Kristiansand is another town on the south of Norway.

      Norwegian trivia, when sending mail shipments to those towns we are advised to indicate which one we mean by putting either Kristiansund N or Kristiansand S as a postfix to lessen the chance that a mixup can happen. :)

    Would be interested to read about the ease/difficulty to sail as Americans to/in Europe with a US registered vessel, the inverse being cumbersome from an visa/administrative view.

    • @mattjohnson6716
      @mattjohnson6716 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Norway makes it pretty easy for Americans. We're able to stay 90 days in the Nordic countries regardless of how much time we've spent in the Schengen territory previously. The boat is allowed to stay a year (I think) in Norway (not the EUs 18 months) without paying their VAT. But, we've also found the officials really don't care as long as you don't have a criminal background. It's all very relaxed. -Matt

      @@mattjohnson6716 It's very safe. The entire country has about 4 million people. The national news led one night with a hold up in a 7-11 in Oslo. That's pretty much the crime rate. (BTW, try to get to Oslo if you didn't already. One of my favorite cities...)

    At time 3:22- while you are talking about your waterproof boots-- Is that a telephone pole over your shoulder? Gray slender pole with what appears to be two white metal labels about 12- 15 feet above ground?... Didn't see any electric lines in the video, but that sure looks like a utility pole in the middle of no where.... To straight and uniform without bark or limbs to be a tree?

    • @mattjohnson6716
      @mattjohnson6716 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was. They led down to the house around the anchorage. We've seen some very remote cabins with what looks to be miles of wire ran just to feed that one piece of property. I'm not sure if they have some utility coverage law saying everyone needs to be serviced or something. The other crazy thing is that there was no time we didn't have cell coverage. The entire country seems to be covered even in the more remote areas. It was great for us.

      Historically they are basically fishing villages. Norway used to be really poor, and people were just scraping by by trading fish and some small farms with typically sheep or goats that could survive in that kind of environment. Nowadays a lot of these houses are used for summer houses, and there is quite a lot of people earning money from tourism. :)
      You will find that Norway is still very decentralized compared to many countries, with quite good communications most places with, for example with planes:

      @@BjrnOttoVasbottenbjovas Very true. There was a nice display in this village showing the history of the area; the extent of the population bloom in the early 1900s; and why it is now just tourist and summer cottages. Seems that a fire and a drop in demand for the harvesting of the birds/eggs on the island was enough to change the tides of this particular village -
