The obvious name for the LARGE waterfall opposite the Seven Sisters is BIG BROTHER. A Fantastic part of our world, and deservedly a World Heritage Site.
Love you're videos. You always seem to be able to relay the essence of the places you visit. The strong waterfall opposite the seven sisters waterfalls is called "the suitor". It is the source of a legend that goes something like this; Stunned by the beauty of the seven sisters, the Suitor asked each of the seven sister for their hand in marriage, only to be turned down by all seven. In his sorrow he turned to the bottle. If you look at the waterfall, especially if you look at it straight ahead, you can clearly see the shape of a bottle where the stream splits in two before hitting the fjord.
Beautiful country with fantastic footage on land and by drone. The shots of the waterfall when you were really close help tell the story of how tall and massive they looked. It has to be 100 times better in person and it was still stunning in this video. This is one of my favorite MJ Sailing episodes to date. Thanks for sharing.
One of my favorite things about your channel is how you describe what you see and feel, describe the scents of your surroundings, that takes it to a different level of just the visual/auditory.., but also the sensual.
In the summer of 1989 I stayed at the camp ground visible at the very beginning of the video and at 9:45 minutes into it. I have to return. This place is really gorgeous.
@@MJSailing It was in August. It was a quite touristy spot already then. Including cruse ships. We stayed only one or two nights. Can't remember. We had to cut short the visit due to a technical failure of our bus. But I still remember reading a book late at night without additional light and falling a sleep to the sound of the rapids near by the camp ground.
The 'Hurtiguten' ships that leave from Bergen every afternoon, do in Summer months cruise the Geiranger Fjord, and from memory i think they spend 3 or 4 at the village of Geiranger...................................One of the special places in the world!!
@@MJSailing They are a really interesting way of cruising, in the all the ships in the 'Hurtigruten' fleet are a combination of a 5 star cruise ship, a working vessel that carries cargo, and a ferry that the average Joe uses to get around on. We have done the round trip from Bergen to Kirkeness twice, and found them really interesting ships.
Terrific video. Of course, I enjoyed the very early blogs when you were sailing on Lake Michigan. i wonder whether you ever do a comparison and contrast with those early days to now. The yen for adventure has remained the same and it has, clearly, paid off in a lifetime of memories. Have you made plans for the coming year?
Thank you for the kind words! Wow, a comparison to the Lake Michigan days would have lots of differences!! But most of that would be a comparison from pleasure sailing (always picking a beam reach because you have no destination) to having a specific destination and having to fight the winds to get there. Tentative plans for 2020 are to spend April - June sailing more of southern England (Scilly Islands) and the Irish Sea including Wales and hopefully the Firth of Clyde by Glasgow. By late June we hope to be in SW Ireland to make a jump down to Spain where we'll work our way down Portugal and into the Med. But since we only get 90 days in Schengen countries (Spain, Portugal, France, Italy), we'll probably have to play a back and forth game between there and Morocco.
Job well done you two. As part Norwegian living on Lake Superior, you have now modified my trip from Duluth/Superior out to the Atlantic and beyond. Instead of heading South, I'll be going East. Cheers!!
Currently 1300+ and 10- .... I have no idea why people would mark this down! Perhaps they are disappointed that it isn't filmed in the tropics? It rained/wasn't sunny enough? Or there are no bikinis (though I'm sure Matt would look great in one)? It isn't their language? They don't like cruise ships and dislike the environmental pressure they create? Perhaps they have streaming issues and blame MJ Sailing for a dodgy video? I have no idea, I don't understand why anyone would mark this down - none of the reasons I guessed at above are good enough, or right in an way. Flumoxed.
The wee bit of irony is that due to all the Cruise ships the air in geiranger can get quite severly polluted on clear and still days. In that regard getting a bit of rain possibly help a little bit though. :)
I love MJ Sailing! And thanks for keeping it clean and real and all about sailing and adventure and love your cost breakdowns and detailed repair explanations. So envious of you guys, 'cuz here in Grand Rapids.....it. is. dismal, cloudy and snowy cold.
As always, outstanding video. Great coverage of the hike and the water falls. You guys never rush the videos, you took the time to say hi to the sheep and the great view of the falls and all. Thanks again, and Happy New Year ..
I absolutely LOVE this video! What spectacular, awe inspiring scenery. I have no idea what 'it' is, but you have 'IT' - something undefinable but special. There are lots of beautiful people in the world but 'it' makes Marilyn Monroe and Jamie Dornan stand out from the crowd
Sure was an abundance of views which you always do so well at capturing and presenting to us. The drone shots helped give a perspective of how large the waterfalls were when compared to Elements. The sheep really added personality to your hike. That was fun. And then, Matt, "waterfall, waterfall, waterfall, waterfall, waterfall, waterfall..." Sure is a waterfall delight!!! Happy New Year. Thank you for a beautiful start!
Happy New Year Matt and Jessica. So beautiful there. If you ever get the chance to do the pacific West coast do it. The inside passage in the early season has so many waterfalls it's beyond believe.
Each time I think you've produced my favorite episode, you come along with my new favorite! I love this view of the waterfalls in Norway, and can't wait to see what comes next in your travels.
really love your vids. you two are so comfortable together, just one request. would you give us the depth of some of those water ways. I am fascinated by the fjords that you are traveling in
I see a bunch of stuff on youtube and its pretty good. Then I see your channel like a great night cap! far in a way the best there is. Good night. p.s. I hit like right when the movie starts so I can’t forget. Send me a coosie.
I've been watching you guys since shortly after you guys started work on Elements. Your quickly becoming one of my favorites if for nothing else but the fact that you seem to be resisting the latest trend to put out videos that are half an hour or longer. I just don't have time to watch those, so thank you for that. I was born in Germany and it's my dream to sail to and spend at least a year exploring Europe in general in Germany in specific. Your giving me a "sneak peek" so you know I'm watching. Great views guys. 👍 😎
In some of your earlier videos I had the sense Matt’s smile, at times, was a little forced for the camera, but in this series he seems genuinely thrilled and thoroughly enjoying the breathtaking scenery. If you ever decide to make a feature video of this series I’d be interested in buying it. There is something very special about this corner of the world.
Beautiful once again. Thank you for being our eyes and ears to beautiful places we hope to see some day for ourselves. Wishing you a happy and healthy 2020!
How cool you guys made it to my home area. :) It seems you missed the most beautiful fjord tho, Nordfjord :) Too bad you didn't see Geiranger on a sunny day!
It's so sad that we were on such a time crunch. 2 months to get from Bergen up to Lofoten and back. We know we missed a lot of beautiful stops, but we're thankful for the ones we did get!
@@MJSailing Yes, I understand that. The Norwegian coastline is long and the weather isn't always cooperating either and on top of that the sailing season is short in these waters
When sailing in the fjords is an beautiful experience its also rather dangerous, this is due to downdraughts from the mountains. The old ppl living in Storfjord of which Geirsngerfjord is a side arm, did say that you needed to be 4 times the height of the mountain away from shore to be safe. And in the fjords that is impossible so you have to be on guard all the time. You have made a really good video of a marvelous landscape. BTW i live not far from Geiranger
We got hit hard with wind and full sails up our first time through this area. From that point on we made sure to have all the sails tightly furled whenever close to any of these cliffs :) Matt
Happy new year to my favorite cruising couple! I hope you guys are staying warm in sunny England over the winter, and the 2020 brings more wonderful adventure that you generously share with us all, cheers
Dangit.. now I have to visit Geiranger on my way south.. it's just too close to make it a destination for vacation cruising and just too far for å weekend cruise. Thx for enlighting me about my own country
@@MJSailing I've walked along there ... though it is a dangerous place because of the Gin Distillery and its lovely food! An easy place to empty your wallet ...

Yes, you tapped the beer twice.. to no avail.. I happen to know of a large scale experiment - scientifically undertaken - to investigate the effect, or lack thereof, of tapping the can before opening. There was no effect of the tapping recorded!
