Tragic story. A lot of lessons learned. Drinking and driving is not a good idea. However, it is irritating to listen to lawyers wanting to put responsibility for the accident on anyone except the one who was driving drunk--Pelle Lindbergh.

Drink and drive should be a definite NO NO

If you want to know more about Pelle and his life I'd definitely recommend the book Behind the White Mask, it's (so far) proving to be an excellent read. I was a fan of his as a kid and he was just an amazing guy, not just as a goalie but as a person.

This was tragic that not only did a young and promising hockey career lie ahead for Pelle Lindbergh, but a young life had come to an end!

Pelle actually starred in a movie back in Sweden before leaving for the States ('Lämna mig inte ensam' 1980) - I wonder if that one is still available....

@tylerdurdonxx The author is Bill Meltzer and it was translated into English from Swedish. I have since finished reading it cover to cover and it was worth every page. It is an amazing read. I bought my copy off of Amazon, I had trouble finding it in book stores. Plus I play (occasionally!) in net so it is a worthwhile investment for anyone who loves goaltending, and more importantly for someone who wants to see Pelle for who he was. You WON"T be disappointed!!! Very enlightening.

According to trusted sources online (like the NY Times), this episode aired on December 30, 1985, a full year earlier than this post claims.

FriendlyWalrus It would be easy to just say "people interested in the truth" and leave it at that, but it's actually far more important. The Internet has become a living, breathing historical record, not just of Americans but of everyone on Earth. It is now what people chiefly use to learn about the past in ways formerly owned outright by books in libraries and distributed to the masses by teachers in schools. So to get the facts wrong online is to mislead generations of people who want (and deserve) to learn about the past the way it actually happened. It's to hurt their education, to make them more ignorant, less precise, less knowledgeable. Truly, it's probably more responsibility than the poster of this clip ever asked for, but it's implicit nonetheless.
