I remember the day this was in the news. Being a life long Flyers fan since 1971, I just remembering sitting in Highland Lakes NJ and just sitting by myself an crying. I thought...he was the next Bernie Parent and we would win several cups with him. Not to be. RIP #31.

@@jamesmayhem4164 regardless of the cause and there is speculation regarding blood alcohol levels, so yes I agree with you but Pelle Lindbergh accomplished a lot and most groundbreaking in the NHL & internationally. Should all that be cast into the forgotten world. We also forget the Hockey/NHL world back then, that could of happened to any other player & if Pelle legacy is going to be forever punished maybe we should start looking into other players and circumstances regarding judgement. Pelle Lindbergh paid the ultimate price for his mistakes and only GOD knows what was to come and hopefully the powers that be will reconsider his place in the NHL and FLYERS organization. At least if I have anything to do with it his name and legacy will take its rightful place.

@@Rockhound6165 As I respect all opinions and I certainly do not
Condone, drunk, driving as it has directly impacted my family. That being said The case of Pelle Lindbergh is far more complicated. The testing of blood serum is highly inaccurate compared standard blood alcohol levels. The route traveled and rate of speed, the number of occupants in the car. The Porsche 930 turbo specs. Personal Lawsuits after the fact. There are lots of pieces to this puzzle that have only been partially put together. Pelle Lindbergh paid the ultimate price for his mistakes and fortunately others were not harmed in the same. It also is easy to throw rocks at a deceased individual who cannot defend themselves. The culture in sports at that time was very different than it is now, the common practice could of and has affected other athletes of that era. My point is Pelle Lindbergh as a professional athlete for the Philadelphia Flyers should not be summarized as a villain. At the time Pelle could have walked on water in Philadelphia and the Flyers probably would’ve won the cup and 85 and possibly 86 with their core lineup intact. If we are going to split hairs then we need only have to look in the mirror. That’s my two cents…

Pelle wasn't even the starting goalie in the 85 finals after being the best goalie in the league all season. Just sayin'. His 5-9 height and his old style of play wouldn't have lasted too long in the NHL in the 80s. 400 would have been a stretch? - maybe - we'll never know.

@@billblake9665 Pelle got torched in game 4. Flyers had a 3-1 lead and let it slip away. I mean, the Oilers weren’t some ham and Egger team. They had some guys who were pretty good (lol). Keenan stated that Pelle’s play had tapered down through the playoffs. So he started Froese in game 5. Pelle died too early. Barely had a career in the NHL. So we only have that short time of him to judge him unfortunately. Who knows. I just look how goalie evolved in the second part of the 80s and into the 90s. Guys who looked and played like Pelle weren’t in the league anymore.

barely a career??? Guys like him were not around later ??? Dude all the vesina winners were around later and thats for sure.... You do realize 99 and other great players went on scoring high even when the goalies got better and the goalies who were good stayed good even when the players got better..... You seriously think a guy who could beat the oilers when almost NO ONE could would have suddenly been out of the league???? Uhhhh i haven't been just a flyers fan 50 years i am stone hockey fan.... look at the years you question and you will notice it was the same goalies year after year.... trust me...Pelle Did not start game 5
because of a knee injury not because of
poor play he was red hot if you think im wrong the game is on here on youtube watch the pregame yourself it was the first thing
they brought up because it was a shock. he got hurt in game 6 against Quebec and didn't want to tell anyone because he didn't want to miss the finals... he only let up 11 goals in 4 games against the mighty oilers they had 2 empty netters....that era against that team playing injured....... Tapered off??? LOL ......oilers scored 12 goals in ONE GAME against the blackhawks the round before that's getting torched my friend ...Check it out if you think i am wrong... 84 85 only team to sweep oilers reg season pelle and flyers....if the flyers had a healthy team there is a good chance they win that cup....take away empty netters oilers win games 2, 3 and four by one goal each flyers only 50 goal scorer tim kerr plays game 1 scores 2 has assist flyers CRUISE to a 4 to 1 win kerr injured at the end of the game DONE top d man brad mccrimmon out whole series pelle playing on bad knee whole series....all star forward all star d man all star vesina trophy winning goalie....all hurt...despite all that the oilers only managed to squeak out 3 of their wins by a lone goal.....not saying by any means i think that the flyers would definitely have won without those injuries
      just pointing out the facts
He was not a flash in the pan...when you can keep that oilers team in check...the highest scoring offense in nhl history to this day.....your a pretty damn good goalie.... Pelle playoff stats
12 w 6L gaa 2.50..... reg season gaa 3.02 .....save pct playoffs .914 ...reg season .899..... shutouts playoffs 3 reg season 2 he didn't fade in the playoffs he did BETTER.....playing an oilers team that averaged over 5 goals a game on a bum knee he held them to 2.75 a game....almost half what they averaged...in the pressure of the nhl finals.
I don't know where you got the story he was benched
because of poor play nothing could be farther from the truth....youtube is the way to go see for yourself what
happened the games are all here for our viewing pleasure, Pelle was amazing in those playoffs a total
acrobat, the oilers had nothing but respect for the way he played. There are some smaller goalies in todays nhl...halik and khudobin are under 6 feet and they both are pretty good.....
