I have been shooting with 360 for a couple of years now. My first 360 was a GoPro Max since I have been using standard GoPros for many years. I howevet switched to the insta360 X3 several months ago and am really glad I did. In my opinion its a superior camerea and the Insta 360 apps for both the phone and desk top have more options and in my opinion are easier to use. I will say there is definitely a learning curve in the editing of 360 footage, but once you get the hang of it the editing is really fun. And the Insta360 app has several options from doing the editing, from manually (my favorite way which offers the most freedom in how you edit) or it will basically do it for you if you want a quick and easy edit. The Insta 360 X3 is basically my go to camera although i do also carry my GoPro 8 with me for the occasional situations where a point and shoot action camera might be a little more convenient at the time and I may need a camera that can take a little bit more of a beating. However with that said I am pretty careful with my cameras so have never had an issue with damage. One last thing, both the camera and the apps have setting that can at least somewhat compesate for the lens protectors although there can certainly be a difference in quality especially in certain situations like bright sunlight. With that said if you are just using your camera for things like FB or instagram its probably fine, but if you want the absolute best quality I would not use lens protectors and just be cautious with your camera. Although the lenses aren't quite as fragile as everyone seems to.make them out to be, you certainly do not want to set your camera down on or scrape it against any surface that could scratch them and of course don't drop your camera. Also make sure you always use the silicon lens cap when ever you are not actually shooting video. Sorry about the length of this response, but just wanted to share my experience with 360 with those just learning. The bottom line is go out and experiment with them. The possibilities of what you can do with the Insta360 are endless.

I started today looking at cameras for vlogging with GoPro11 reviews. Then it migrated to the Action 3 and just going on some TH-cam thumb recommendations I ended up on a video of your Insta360 X3 Reviews. What a Rabbit Hole it has been for quite a many hours. At best I found this video and a few others of yours with the Insta360 X3 really quite informative. Thus I’m definitely in the camp of the DJI Action 3 and the Insta360 X3 both.
As a new motorcycle rider. Planning to get a 360 camera to start. I think it has the most bang for the buck, because it captures everything and can be reframed in post. I think once the tech and storage allows for even MORE resolution, It will really be one of the most useful cameras. Of course the 360 views will look great, but with higher resolution there's the opportunity to have great looking stills. Possibly with stills, we can adjust the focal length of the shot too to reduce that heavily distorted wide angle lens look, if we so choose. Exciting stuff to come.

The handheld stick shots handle the movement a lot better than the backpack mount but I do love the perspective the backpack mount brings. Great video & happy new year! 🎉

Hey @RobHK thanks for all your videos on the Insta360 X3. I am leaving for south east asia in four months and been trying to decide what camera to get for my travels. This is the first time I will be documenting anything like this and was planning to get a drone, however the hassle with flying into countries and restrictions with drones. I think the Insta360 X3 is the camera for me. I do keep hearing from people that the camera is not waterproof though and that you SHOULD absolutely not take it underwater!
Your editing work with this camera is incredible. I am certainly a little worried about my editing ability but I am sure I can get the hang of it!!
Its water proof for a certain deep.better get the invisible diving case.

I recently bought insta 360 x3, just wanted to know, how many minutes footage we can record in 4k at 60fps in single shot, cause i am hardly able record 10mins of footage after that camera is getting stuck and file is getting corrupted. Is it normal? And could you share resolution in which you have. Recorded this video. Thank you
just got mine a few days ago, brand new to making videos of any kind, but off to Egypt then Germany next week and think this will be the perfect camera for capturing the temples, like Karnak and Edfu and just street and Nile scenes. I’ll be off to the Orkneys in August to visit the megalithic sites there.

I just ordered one earlier today and have been so nervous about learning all the new techniques and having to edit footage etc. I'm heading to Tahiti in May and want to know everything before I go so my footage can look half as good as yours. What settings do you use? how do you edit? Any snorkel tips? I have so many questions. What is the best way to do hands free when hiking? Do you use a special backpack or just a mount of some sort? Do you have any protection on your lenses? I want to avoid scratches but not at the expense of quality of shots. I'm so excited ! Thank you

At times it looks like you are not holding the selife stick. Do you somehow attached to your pack? I would prefer to not hold the stick while I'm walking, but have it attached to myself somehow. Any tips?
I've owned a couple of 360 cameras over the past five years, and I never seem to use them that much. I've never really enjoyed editing 360 video, but I plan on trying to use it more this summer. Great video, and thanks for sharing.

When posting to TH-cam from your cell phone how do you get the picture to fill the entire frame? Mine only comes through as a portrait for some reason. I don't see where I can change the aspect ratio when I hit export to youtube?

Super helpful video, I have a trip planned to Southern Africa and decided I wanted an action camera for the trip, and this video convinced me that the camera I wanted most was also the right choice. Do you know if there are any belt mounting solutions for storage? I like the idea of having some sort of hard shell case on my belt so I can store it safely but still access it quickly, without needing a bag.

You could also just get a hard case, any small really. And then buy these clamps that rock climbers are using and just attach that to the handle or zipper on the case and to your belt/chest strap of your backpack👍

Stitch line is between the 2 lenses so avoid the sides

Question: do you use lens protectors on your X3? If so, have you noticed a difference in the video quality? If you don’t use protectors, are the lenses as delicate as some people claim? Yeah, I don’t use lens protection. Anything you put in front of the lens will mess with the quality in some way. Better to be careful 👍😃

Hey Glenn! I use a lens protector on mine and this is my advice for your consideration. When installed accordingly, the lens protector I do not notice a degradation in quality of the footage where I wished I didn't have the protector. HOWEVER, if this is your first foray into a 360 camera, I would recommend getting the protector at the start as it will allow you to get used to using a device that has a lens on both sides and build good habit of taking care of the camera at all times and protect you from the unfortunate situations of dropping your camera or laying down the camera on its lens accidentally. If you see that you are properly taking care of the camera and also don't notice any scratches on the screen protector over time, then you could with confidence start using the camera without the protectors installed.
To further clarify, where I do notice I have a screen protector on the lens is when there is bright sunlight hitting the lens and its like as if you are recording the outside environment when sitting inside a car shooting through a clean and clear windshield, the reflections and glare from the sun hitting car window glass then your smartphone is the effect I can compare it to when having a screen protector on the 360 camera lens. Hope this helps!

Question. If you press the button to record, is there a delay to stop you recording just as you are pressing the button?
Have you tried using the voice commands ? You can get it where you want and just say “start recording”.
I set up the camera the way I’m going to record then hit the record button in app or on my Apple Watch.

The mobile version yes, but it will be scaled i guess so better off using your phone.
The studio app is only for windows/MacOS
Man I have this camera, and if you want to travel with a single camera and have a lot I mean A LOT of possibilites, this is the one! you can do soooo many things, will not be like 4K, 5k or 8k but lets be honestwe are good with 1080 most of the times. I will get another camera (some action camera) just because I need something that I know I can drop without damaging the lens hehehehhehee.
Question what you think of the 1in 360?
I believe it is superior in terms of quality, however, it is bigger and heavier (not recommended to people who are weak 😅), changing the battery is not as convenient as X3 (you can buy extra batteries now for the 1 inch), and the battery is not as long as X3. Also the lense has a higher chance of getting scratch because it is a lot bigger. Also a smaller screen (but I believe you can connect it to your phone and use your phone as a screen). If you don't mind the size, weight, smaller battery, and are very careful with your stuff, 1 inch is better. Btw if it's for travel then maybe X3 might be better since it's not as expensive as the 1 inch in case you damage it.
I was one of the ones who said the quality wasn’t worth having, until this last firmware update. It’s a different camera, seems like. I’d bet money that video quality has seen a nice jump. Pureshot photos are a game changer. I’m super happy with the camera now.

have you scratched your lenses at all? I mean I'm sure the camera was probably getting caught on some branches or the dirt gets on the lens and you wipe it out.
I don’t “wipe” it off, poor some clean water and i also have a dedicated cleaning cloth i use with all my gear and a lens pen👍

Basically i also only use my X3. But for zooming i still use my regular video camera. This because i have not found a compact camera yet with a decent zoom.
Feel you on that, i never zoom myself unless its with my Sony.
I’m curious, why the insta 360 instead of the GoPro max? Have you done a comparison between them and found one more superior than the other?
X3 has much better image quality than the Max. So unless gopro steps it up im sticking to insta360 which also is the lead engineering company for 360 action cams.

When shooting yes, but if you´re travling a lot to places with a lot of humidity or where you´ll be putting on a sweat. I would suggest keeping them on and then take them off when you shoot, and back on when you´re done.
for some of my shots i had to spend a few minutes trying to remove the moist from the lenses, because i was all wet from some of the hikes and had the camera in the pouch and my pocket.
But i would suggest getting a small hardcase, any really, which is small and just fits the camera.
Also a cleaning cloth just in case🤙
Honestly, the only thing preventing to buy one is that seam between the two images, when watching your videos, it often disturbs me and then I remember it's the seam between the two camera.
Normally you wouldn´t see this, which you would know if you watched my other videos on this camera.
And it´s mostly how you hold it and frame it later, i like to have a wide view which might at times add this to the visibility, but if you go normal view or even further in, more will go away.
Where it´s quite visible in some of the shots, the lens was already pretty wet from the hikes, rain and overall humidity

Mines a gimmick ... blue screen of death from brand new out of the box, I wanted to send it back but wanted it for a shoot. Cannot leave a charged battery I it or it drains to flat so I need to charge and pop the battery out but keep in case. Lost a lot of footage on the free supplied card from insta which is now binned. Think its had three software updates
I still get the odd message did you fix your blue screen / lock up from a TH-cam short video I uploaded so people are still having problems from new and are disappointed like me .
I wanted to get creative but left me angry and disheartened. Every time I want to use it the weather is dull or really windy . I get more enjoyment from an Fj summon+ I bought from a charity shop for a tenner.

I do love some of the footage from these 360 cameras, but I really dislike how the footage warps. I understand it’s something that is part of the 360 cameras, it’s just not to my taste. I wish it was possible to have all these features but without the warp.
You can adjust the fisheye in the app tho if you don’t want it, but i wish there was a setting which removed it on the camera natively
Exactly, that warp makes it completely unusable for hiking, I want give a realistic impression of a trail/climb, not a fancy, disturbing, warped image which make viewers feeling dizzy
I loved my insta x3 till I ran it over with my 50 ton machine. But it will be fixed.
