I got the DJI Pocket 3 on day one and I love it. But I'm still on the fence about the X4, the hardware looks great, but I'm not a fan of reframing 360 video in post. And I can never get my head around to create a workflow where I upload videos in timely fashion. Great video comparison, thanks for sharing.
I actually bought both for a very versatile camera budget set up. The pocket for the cinematic higher quality shots and the X4 for the action and all the different camera shots you can get. Great value for how cheap they are compared to higher budget cameras!
I always said my iPhone Pro Max matched with Osmo 6, and also my Mini 4 Pro were enough for me when on vacation. I had no need for an action camera as well. But now this Insta360 X4 comes out and I love what it says it can do. I'm going for it. Thanks for helping me make that decision, Robin. I'll let my iPhone capture the different quality and low light images that the Pocket 3 might have done. //Tom
All of today's cameras seem like a bargain to me because I'm old and have been buying video cameras since before the '90s when to get half decent quality I had to shell out approximately $3000 to get a 3 chip camera capable of near broadcast quality (for the day which was 640 line interlaced 2:3) I'd buy both and it's still cheap for excellent video quality!
I love owning both. They both have different advantages that I enjoy taking advantage of. I carry but with me using a fanny pack. It fits both and the insta 360 selfie stick with bullet time tripod. I love it
In summer I want to shoot some travel vlogs and Im struggling between these two cameras. In general Im impressed by the opportunities of the insta 360 X4 which id love to try, but Im not quite sure if the video-quality is high enough for cinematic shoots. This is the reason why I can't decide between x4 and Pocket 3. Can somebody give me please some advice what you would do?
They are built for different purposes so choosing between the two will depend on the use. The X4 is an action camera and the Pocket 3 is a hand-held vlogging and all purpose video camera. If someone isn't a vlogger, the X4 will do more but the video quality is better with the Pocket 3 during hand-held operations. I chose the X3 (six months ago). I'm sure I'll get the X4 one day or maybe skip a generation and get the X5. I find the X3 + Action 4 + Go 3 does everything I need. For those who want reliability, simplicity, with good clear footage that is super easy to edit, the Action 4 is hard to beat but it isn't the subject of this video. Honestly, if I could only have one of the cameras I listed in this post, it would be the Action 4.
I got both. For straight up vlogging and in low-light (even for studio based video) I use the Osmo. For interesting shoot and compose later stuff in good light, the 360. Happy with both purchases and think it's a solid $1000 investment for creator content.
I have the Pocket 3 and the Insta360 X3. The Pocket 3 is definitely my favourite. I know the Insta360 X3 doesn't have some of the new features as the X4, but I don't really care. The stabilization of the Pocket 3 (with its gimbal, 1-inch sensor, and amazing job in low-light at night), is just amazing! Still like the X3 though, for all the editing possibilities in post, from all those angles.
Thanks for the comparison. To be honest, I never ever thought 2 years ago that I will use a small cam like the Pocket3 for serious production. Bought it after release right away and shot a 4 days event with interviews and broll on the Pocket3. Its has an insanely quick turn around. Quality is amazing with good lighting, files are small, audio is very good and redundant and the setup time has simply no competition. Heel to toe walking will help with up and down movement. Also did some filming of myself and man the pocket3 makes production for youtube soo easy. With the memo app its unbeatable for self filming. I also have the X2 and really like it for pictures and some fun shots. But even with more resolution I would use the pocket3. Clear win for me when it comes to a „swiss army knife for filming your self“. Very easy to decide. Vlogging, youtube, Interviews for social media, TikTok, traveling go with the Pocket3 Creators kit 110%. If you want cool special Broll, unique shots for social media, action sports or your productions go with the X4.
That was a very interesting conversation! I own the Pocket 3 for quite some time now and I love using it. But can definitely feel the limitations when it comes to documenting my traveling. Regardless about how easy it is to use you still need to be very intentional with your shots to make it look good. Would you say that both of the cameras are the perfect portable travel setup?
They both have their uses...I tried done a very low light test with the X3 and P3...both had same settings Log color, 4k30, 800max iso, 1/60 auto white balance and the Pocket 3 blew the x3 away and it wasn't even on low light mode. Although the P3 has clearer video in the day...nothing beats being able to out a camera on a stick, hold it out and it records everything. Imagine if dji made a 360 camera and insta360 made a gimbal camera(since they made the Flow I don't see why not)
I have the Pocket 3 and the X3, so I'm considering, keeping the X3 or at some time buying the X4. What do you think, is it worth the extra money, or is it a more slightly difference?
Awesome video. I already have the insta360 RS 1-inch 360 my wife wants to vlog our daughter's activity so i think the pocket 3 would be more suitable for her and would offer an easier work flow. What do you think?
I have both plus the Insta acepro. If I had to pick one, I would do the 360. It's not perfect, but once you understand how to edit the video, it's pretty good. Here is why I have all three though. The pocket is a great all around camera for capturing the moment. It has great low light capability. It's NOT an action camera. The Acepro is great and I use that for anything under water. The 360 to me is not that great. The 360 camera is nice to just be able to capture everything and edit later.
On the X4 can you create a normal field of view, like the pocket 3? I like the fact that you don’t have to be so precise but I’m not a fan of the crazy angles & fish eye look.
Hi there! I clicked on your link to order the insta360 X4 to get the free selfie stick, but I don’t see the selfie stick in my cart. Is there a code I need to enter?

Hi, Just to clarify.I have a Pocket 3 which is excellent and am considering buying the 360X4. Will the remote microphone which I already have with the Pocket 3 connect via bluetooth to the 360X4?

Great comparison! We've been watching since your LumaFusion days... (whew... that's a long time). Your advice and suggestions are always right on point! Lynn and I thank you. Not sure it's still an issue, but for me one very big con is once you reframe and export the exported file does not match up time wise with other clips. So I always have one more step to update the timestamp of every exported clip so that when I bring them into the editor they are in the right sequence. Otherwise it's always a game of hunt and move to get them lined up chronologically. Do you know?... Is that stil the case? PS... Lynn will not let me use those up-the-nose hold it in your mouth shots... but then again I have a much bigger nose than you. haha. Thanks again.
I only have limited budget, and I thought the competition was only between GoPro Hero12 and DJI osmo Pocket 4. now I have to make my mind around the Insta360 also! I mean I go to different places and shoot different scenes, usually I am not the subject and the videos I need to record require wide frame, capturing nature sun and clouds. and I need the details to be visible in video. I do not care that much about pictures, just a smooth , minimum vibration and capturing a wide view. any suggestions?
I have to manshion that 5.7K is just like OneR with 360 lens module and there are a lot of blury parts of footage and it doesn`t look crystal clear like in a advertised videos. not until both lenses are 8K and 1" sensor.
I actually ordered but quickly canceled the OP3 and ordered the X4 instead. I have an OP1 and a chipped lens Insta360 One. I missed the unique shots and being able to take under water shots. The X4 will give me more content from just the same footage too. Your vacation video helped me choose lol They actually have waterproof cases for Osmo Pockets but I don’t want to carry another thing. If the OP3 get a price cut or go on a sale, I will get it or may even just wait for the OP4. But for now the X4 and the 3m pole is all I need for now to make content on my Instagram. Thanks for the vid. You helped me with LumaFusion tutorials too, can’t wait for that speed ramp updates
The biggest difference between the two cameras (I have both), is the DJI OSMO Pocket 3 has focus control, whereas the X4 is fixed focus. Secondly as of the current firmware, you can use the Pocket 3 as a webcam (useful with a YoloBox Pro for example) and you can use the Pocket 3 for streaming. You can of course upload your X4 360 degree video to TH-cam and that allows the viewer to choose what they want to look at 🤩
No focus control for Pocket 3. Focus is the main problem for Pocket 3. If someone is in the video the background will be blurry. Was better on Pocket 2.
@@jva_youtube There IS focus control. Click on what you want to be in focus and that is what the camera focuses on. This provides a far more cinematic experience than previous cameras or action cameras.
Interesting... However, considering the 8k video file size, Yourself and many youtubers don't seem to be taking about the processing power of the pc required to deal with them Your thoughts?
I have talked about the processing so many times. U can do it on a 90yo pc if u want. Its not normal mp4 files i.eks. Its invs files which work in a completely different way. So the processing and requirements are less than if u edit normal 4k videos from the ace pro for example. The issue is if you export the video from the studio in prores…which wont make the videos look better, only larger and harder on the computer, even if insta360 recommends this, it makes no difference to exporting the files in h.264 which is what i recommend 🙆 X4 does also shoot in h.265 which lowers the overall file size of the 8K recordings👌
@@chaydTV one minute recording over 1GB after edit it 100MB you cant let in your computer UN edit it there you need huge hard disc your computer never gonna edit quick with insta360 software because cant use all your prosesor capacite 30 minutes 8K recording shuting down because of heating so not use summer... one lens schrach camera is useless unless you send them insta360 to hongkong x4 220 dollars x3 120 dollar cost a repair your garantie is useless for this you know why they send them with lensguard because you need it
I`m very disapionted in Insta support - there is NO downgrade FW so if you upgrade (like I did) and somethnig is not right you can not rollback to previous FW--- I have OneR and audio sucks - it sound like bad mp3 (64 kbs or even less) even with external Saramonic or Boya mic!!!
so ... the final conclusion is : GET BOTH. There is no choosing in between them ... Each of the cameras have one-of-a-kind qualities and usecase - you cannot replace one with the other ...
I have an Instapocket 2 I use it, but a lot of the things I do with it, I can do it with my iPhone, many times I use my phone for the convenience of having just only one thing, and not having to worry about extra batteries, etc etc. with the X4 I can do a lot more things that I can't do it with my iPhone, I think that is a big advantage.
I own the DJI Pocket 2, and a few months ago, I purchased the Pocket 3. Unfortunately, I am now disappointed because the screen is malfunctioning despite my careful handling. Since I am on the other side of the world, sending it back for repair is extremely expensive. Am hoping DJI to solve this issue for me.
I brought the pocket 3 and returned it for the insta 360 X4 because of the pocket 3 wasn’t water proof, it don’t have 8k and read review online people had issue with the mechanic of screen issue. Don’t get me wrong pocket 3 shoots amazing video. They both work differently had both amazing camera. 😊
@@Ozpeter no if you film in 5.7 you only get get closer to a 2.7 on the reframe, if you shoot 8k you get a 4k reframe. If you shoot in 4k and have to reframe you lose quality. Of course this depends on how much reframe /cropping you are really doing.
@@stafonvoncamron We could discuss it for hours but Insta360 have always said that reframed 5,7k from the X3 is considered to be 1080p and the same reframe from the X4 gives 2.7k - it couldn't be 4k because that would include a 180 degree shot (half of the 360 sphere.
I am still rocking my X3, i dont see any reason to upgrade to X4 for the 8k resolution. Just avoid shooting it at night, day time with enough light. X3 works just fine.

x4 better because: 1. waterproof 2. 360 8K means single cam 4K [much better than the X3] 3. still works with DJI mic 4. better stabilisation 5. YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO HAVE FUN!! YOU GOT 360 VIDEO!! the footage might be 10% less good compared to the pocket 3 but honestly who cares? the other features just make it much better.
I was hoping to see an image quality comparison between the two but the initial samples were so fast cut that I couldn't really compare. Still, thanks your painstaking work and thought provoking commentary.
x4 all dy this is my Insta 360 waited that 8k is wild! The detail as well as the clarity outmatches the pocket three. Depending on what you're doing, you can use the X4 for for almost anything because this invisible Speer.
How dare you compare that to the osmo 3. I had with and the insta quality was horrible on low light Changed every setting there is and messed around with it. Nothing. Quality was a bit less horrible bit still bad, at daytime and low light

I already own A7S3 (&A74), so I just picked the X4 to comment my GoPro 11.
Awesome video!💯🙌🙂 I think I should buy both hahahaaa 😂 Keep up the great work!
👌😎
Interesting...
However, considering the 8k video file size,
Yourself and many youtubers don't seem to be taking about the processing power of the pc required to deal with them
Your thoughts?
I have talked about the processing so many times. U can do it on a 90yo pc if u want.
Its not normal mp4 files i.eks. Its invs files which work in a completely different way. So the processing and requirements are less than if u edit normal 4k videos from the ace pro for example.
The issue is if you export the video from the studio in prores…which wont make the videos look better, only larger and harder on the computer, even if insta360 recommends this, it makes no difference to exporting the files in h.264 which is what i recommend 🙆
X4 does also shoot in h.265 which lowers the overall file size of the 8K recordings👌
You can even edit and process it on your phone.
@@chaydTV one minute recording over 1GB after edit it 100MB
you cant let in your computer UN edit it there you need huge hard disc
your computer never gonna edit quick with insta360 software because cant use all your prosesor capacite
30 minutes 8K recording shuting down because of heating
so not use summer...
one lens schrach camera is useless unless you send them insta360 to hongkong x4 220 dollars x3 120 dollar cost a repair
your garantie is useless for this
you know why they send them with lensguard because you need it
that face close-up clip walking into the pool was amazing hahahaha
I`m very disapionted in Insta support - there is NO downgrade FW so if you upgrade (like I did) and somethnig is not right you can not rollback to previous FW--- I have OneR and audio sucks - it sound like bad mp3 (64 kbs or even less) even with external Saramonic or Boya mic!!!
Nice valuable information❤
Buy both the are different types of cameras both are awesome in their category 😊
so ... the final conclusion is : GET BOTH. There is no choosing in between them ...
Each of the cameras have one-of-a-kind qualities and usecase - you cannot replace one with the other ...
Just what I was looking for 👍
I have an Instapocket 2 I use it, but a lot of the things I do with it, I can do it with my iPhone, many times I use my phone for the convenience of having just only one thing, and not having to worry about extra batteries, etc etc. with the X4 I can do a lot more things that I can't do it with my iPhone, I think that is a big advantage.
have both… x4 when out for motorcycling… pocket for everything else
I would Have bought the X4 if it had the Pocket 3 Low Light Quality ... They Need to make a 360 Low Light Action Camera. DJI Insta360 Go Pro etc.....
Insta360 Ace Pro is the one you want for low light. At least at the time of this post.
Reframed X4 is typically 2.7k so the Pocket 3 is the winner in that respect even though it is "only" 4k.
X3 works just fine.
i was dissappointed to find out that x4 does not live stream - I bought ot assuming it did as the x3
Just a matter of firmware update
I bought both.. but I find myself using the x4 more because of how easy it is to "set it and forget it".. that selfie-stick is such a game changer... I use the osmo pocket 3 for low-light tho.. x4 isn't great at all in low-light..
Not even close! X4 is a gimmick, P3 is an amazing camera for creators.
buy both, they both have different uses!
The shots with the mouth mount creepy asl
For vlogging i recommend canon r50 + insta 360x4 . Any one agree?
There is absolutely no comparison! Osmo 3 wins hands down.
you're right, these are such different cameras and we'd all be better off having both lmao
The X4 in the Philippines is around $700! Shocked at the difference!
Mabe if i already have iphone15 pro max. I will choose the x4 over dji op3.
x4 better because:
1. waterproof
2. 360 8K means single cam 4K [much better than the X3]
3. still works with DJI mic
4. better stabilisation
5. YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO HAVE FUN!! YOU GOT 360 VIDEO!!
the footage might be 10% less good compared to the pocket 3 but honestly who cares? the other features just make it much better.
Beautiful
I was hoping to see an image quality comparison between the two but the initial samples were so fast cut that I couldn't really compare. Still, thanks your painstaking work and thought provoking commentary.
I bought both, I am typing this before watching the video...
x4 all dy this is my Insta 360 waited that 8k is wild! The detail as well as the clarity outmatches the pocket three. Depending on what you're doing, you can use the X4 for for almost anything because this invisible Speer.
Not as good in low light. Tiny sensor
Detail? 8K divided in 360? no way it can outmatch the 10bit of the pocket 3.
Is this video sponsored by INSTA360? Do tell!
They asked people not to tell about it. Which is illegal by the way.
He said in the video it’s not sponsored by either.
Your video really wasn't sponsored by Insta360, OR they told you to say you were not sponsored by them ?... 🤔
This is not sponsored no😅 but my launch video was
no 10bit???????
Insta is a cool toy. P3 is a pro tool that even professional journalist use out in the field . Nuf said
share your bank statement, x360 have been hounding creators not to say its a 'sponsored' video
No thing to share 😞 still broke
You need both no nees to compare
How dare you compare that to the osmo 3. I had with and the insta quality was horrible on low light
Changed every setting there is and messed around with it. Nothing. Quality was a bit less horrible bit still bad, at daytime and low light
Did u watch the video?
@@RobHK indeed. But insta forever went to my grave after that experience 🥲
I hope x4 update with 10bit😅😂
the only con I have for x4 is the lack of 1" sensor. 😁
Both hehe
Comparing apples with oranges
DJI microphone 2 microphone
I took the easy route.. i bought both😂😂😂
Either one is better than GoPro.
Are you sponsored by insta360??
Les deux :)
insta360 x 4 for a win
