That happened to me when I had to change the drive on my PSP 2004 model. Laser was broken. I got the new drive, then checked a few videos on how to do it and decided to swap the shell in one go too, had to take it apart entirely anyways. So I also got a new shell. It was scary, there are even more parts and screws than on the Switch Lite (I've done two Switch Lite case replacements) and I was extremely inexperienced, but I got through. Had quite a lot of fun with that thing and it was pretty unique, clear bright blue.
Can you please list the external materials required to do this, like the thermal paste etcetera, I got part way through your video took my Switch apart and then learned I didn't even have everything I needed! I'm not saying this is your fault at all but the heads up that other components are required to do this would have been handy before frustration and dissapointment was caused
@@fenrirharrell7833 it's in the description for anyone who wants to know she forgot to leave a link to isopropyl alcohol but most people have this anyway so, just pick some up at your local pharmacy.
I just did a shell replacement following this. Some advices: 1: you don't have to disconnect the battery. The little cables that goes to the connector are VERY fragile. They break very easily and if you do like in this vid (unpluging it by pushing out the cables) you will break it for sure. Just make sure that you power off the switch COMPLETELY. Do not dissassemble if you have your system in wait mode or you may fry the motherboard. 2: the same goes to the speakers. You don't have to unplug them. They are EXTREMELY fragile and breaking the cables is very easy. Just handle the board with extra care, but do not unplug them. 3: the new shell should not use the original screws. Use the ones that come with the new shell, as you may crack the shell otherwise like erica said. 4: do not place the hair dryer for a WHOLE minute while it's on hot. Just a couple seconds its okay. You may damage the digitizer and the LCD if it is very hot. Remember that you only need to heat the adhesive, not the LCD. 5: it is not necessary to replace the thermal paste if its in a good condition, but it's always a good idea. The switch lite does not overheat that much either.
Definitely unplug the battery; it's cheap and easy to replace the battery with a new one that will have a new connector should you break the wires off the connector (which you likely won't anyways). On the other hand, if you short a chip somewhere on the motherboard because you didn't unplug the battery, you might as well buy a new switch.
I would recommend making a video on how to fix the joy con drift! There may be lots of videos out there that relate to that topic, but you explain things so well in 4K. Plus you’re awesome!
This video covers it.. why are you promoting the same content being made more than once. All it takes is some really well placed time stamps to get the same video about how to fix or change the joycons.
I've already seen a video on this very subject! Though it mostly depends on its diagnosis. Go to the calibration settings via Settings>Controllers and Sensors>(scroll down) Calibrate Control Sticks>Tilt the stick you want to calibrate. Once you have selected the joystick you want to calibrate, watch how it moves away from the center of the '+'. Apply pressure to the shell directly by the joystick (just the part by the hole it comes out of). If the dot goes back to the center of the '+', you have an issue with pressure on the inside of the joycon. To fix the pressure problem, simply put a small piece of paper/cardboard (about 1mm thick) on top of the joystick, between the silvery back (of the stick) and the battery plate. That should fix it! HOWEVER, if that does not fix the problem, the issue is definitely just your joystick and you need to replace it. I know it's a year late, but I hope this response helps you understand how joycon drift happens and how you can permanently fix it!
I’ve watched a ton of videos on shell swaps and this is my favorite! Very clear and straightforward! Easy to understand! Will be using this video if I swap shells!

Shell swapped the preused switch lite I got recently and gave it a beautiful makeover. Went through your video through the entire process. Thanks a tonne for this video. 🥺❤️
Yes this tutorial was one of the best on youtube for Nintendo Switch Lite Shell Swapping. I especially love how you dont peel up the battery since its not required to do so. The only omission from it is how to lift the latches on the ribbon cables. You dont show how to flip the latches on them. I did have to look to another video for that, but with that sole exception, I followed yours step by step to change the beat up looking (but good screen) switch lite I bought for my daughter into a custom atomic purple, pink and unicorn theme switch lite. Notes I especially liked: Pointing out if all the screws were the same, or if one was longer. Doing the gold ones or longer ones on a different step to avoid confusion. Speaking of your sponsor, ifixit, they make a "ifixit anti-static project tray" that honestly, I initally thought was dumb. my wife got it for me. But..... following your guide, I did each step with the screws and parts placed in a compartment. each step was a new compartment.... so when I went to reassemble, the screws were together. Parts were in correct order. Was excellent.
Video was much appreciated. I found it easier to follow than the official installation guide my brand provided me and I was pleased to see that there was very little talking around aside from the sponsor section. My only previous experience in anything like this is PC building, very few screws required, so I was nervous and I am very glad this video was so well put :)
I just installed the same one you have on my switch, I did exactly what you did and it went smoothly and you made it looks so easy. Thanks for such a helpful video!
I'm extremely tempted to get a switch lite and swap out the shell. It looks intimidating but your clear instructions make me think I'll succeed. Thank you for the tutorial Erica!
Thank you for all your help. This was the best and straight forward. I was able to replace the shell on my son's switch lite with no issues. I bought a used switch lite for him that was bit on by a dog . Now it looks brand new .
I just replaced my shell with an NES shell. You made it very easy and i was able to pause (ALOT). Everything went smoothly and everything works/ functions great. Thank you! Side note, i did have to slightly sand down my L trigger as stated. Thanks for that tip as well.
Thank you so much for this. My screen suddenly started acting up last night and I have to replace it. I'm tempted to do it myself but every video I've seen is sped up with no detailed instructions. Though this video is of a different purpose, it is still 90% of what I have to do and with great instructions and attention to detail!

This was awesome! You made it so easy! I just replaced the buttons and joysticks with a different color so it was a lot easier not having to deal with the screen. Thanks for the tutorial!
I just did this and now my girlfriends daughter has a nice pink switch light. This was a very helpful vid. Even bought the heat paste and everything so for 5/5 stars!
Thank you for this step by step guide i followed this video to replace my Nintendo Switch Lite and now it works perfectly! Leave the speakers behind very fragile just like someone here commented...
Good information. Just wish I knew I needed thermal paste before I broke it down! So make sure you have thermal paste before you attempt tearing down your switch. Other than that 99.8% good step by step video
This is sooo amazing! Thank you SO much. I wanna try this soon so I watched a lot of tutorials about this but your video is by far the best one on how to do it. You explain so incredibly well and show every step really clearly. I can't thank you enough :)) Will be doing this shortly before the next weekend and might update my comment on how it went as I return to this video quite often for learning purposes anyway. Lots of love and stay safe everybody!
Just did this myself by following your tutorial. Took a lot longer than 16 minutes but I got it done! Sadly my power button isn't working (it was broken before I did this) so I just ordered a replacement volume & power module thingy and going to have to go back into it in a few days to finish the job! But this video made it really easy. Thanks :)
I would definitely do this, I have the atomic purple joycons. Maybe if I get another lite down the road for some reason. But frankly, I'm absolutely in love with the turquoise switch lite. It is by far the best and most attractive handheld system I've ever owned.

I can't believe how different you sound!I haven't been here for years. Glad you're still making interesting videos.
Has my voice really changed or something?
Yes a little bit. Maybe a new microphone? Or maybe is just me the one that haven't been in your channel for a while
Video was much appreciated. I found it easier to follow than the official installation guide my brand provided me and I was pleased to see that there was very little talking around aside from the sponsor section. My only previous experience in anything like this is PC building, very few screws required, so I was nervous and I am very glad this video was so well put :)
There are no words. Apart from AHHHHHHHHH THIS IS AMAZINGGGG
I just did this swap this morning, and it went as smoothly as it could have thanks to your wonderful video. Thank you!
Absolutely INCREDIBLE tutorial, step by step was amazing and I love how my switch lite turned out. Thank you so much!
That's awesome! Great job!!! I love doing stuff like this to tech. The purple switch definitely gives me the clearest purple gameboy.
This video was exactly what I needed to get me through changing my daughter's case to pink. Thanks!
Whoaa so cool. Im getting major gameboy color vibes.
Thank you so much for your vids. You inspired to create content based on things that matter to me like the TN and IPS problem with the 3ds.
The video is 16 minutes long and it's been 4
@@Oafish-1 yes and i got major gameboy color vibes from the intro
I have an idea for your vids 1 Vid, I checked your channel and you might want to make 10 min long vids.
@@dannyman5751 advice taken good sir. Will definitely look into it. I tend to overedit a lot of "ums" and other things that are filler and i realized that less filler more killer. I think that made sense. Thanks for checking it out!
You just made me want to mod a switch lite, and I don’t even own one lol. Probably the best tutorial video on TH-cam!
Thanks for this awesome tutorial! I followed it step by step and was able to change out my daughter's dog-chewed switch housing to new housing and the process went smoothly :)
One of my kids burned one of the ages next the the right joycon, I just purchased one of these shell's today, i thought it was going to be easier, but also thanks to your video, i think i ll have an amazing SW Lite tuned up !
Thanks for the help, changed my daughters switch to a pink shell she's delighted, instructions were clear and consise
Thank you for this video! I ran into some complications, but overall got it all figured out and everything is working! My daughter loves it!
Just completed my case swap and man......i enjoyed it. you made it so easy. thank you. my switch lite looks amazing.
2nd time I've used this tutorial in less than a year. You are the best!!!
I just want to say, thank you so much for this. And as a further credit, If you follow her instructions, you will have no issues at all
Lot a work there Erica. Nice job at capturing essential steps! Answer to you question at the end. A big yes!! Ordered the SNES EU classic shell and going to try it. Fingers crossed.
Thank you very much for the tutorial! Very clear and straight-forward!
Just one tip tho: when removing the battery connector, be veeeery careful not to pull the black connector of the board, only the gray part. That was nightmare to solder back lol
Just got my parts in and I am really glad I watched your video first
I've messed around inside the OG Switch and joy-cons, but I'm thinking about swapping my shell on my Z&Z Lite over the chameleon purple and upgrading to the hall sensor joysticks. This video is perfectly done. Thank you!
Perfectly made, fully detailed video!!! Can't wait to change the shell on my switch lite now!
Daaamn Violet is my favorite color 🥺 though I'm too scared to do this on my switch lite 😩
Everyone misses you. I hope you come back. I really liked watching your videos and I learned a lot. Hopefully you’ll come back.
This tutorial was very useful and helped ensure that nothing went wrong when I did it. Thank you!
This was awesome! You made it so easy! I just replaced the buttons and joysticks with a different color so it was a lot easier not having to deal with the screen. Thanks for the tutorial!
This is wildly complex. It’s like taking apart a watch. I’m afraid I wouldn’t be able to put this all back. You’re a better person.
I just did this and now my girlfriends daughter has a nice pink switch light. This was a very helpful vid. Even bought the heat paste and everything so for 5/5 stars!
This reminds me a lot of when I replaced my PS Vita shell! I feel a lot more confident after this video. Thank you!!!!
Thank you for this step by step guide i followed this video to replace my Nintendo Switch Lite and now it works perfectly! Leave the speakers behind very fragile just like someone here commented...
This looks so hard but the result is amazing💗
i did an atomic purple shell swap on my switch/joycon about 2 years ago. still no issues and looks great.
Best guide on TH-cam
Good information. Just wish I knew I needed thermal paste before I broke it down! So make sure you have thermal paste before you attempt tearing down your switch. Other than that 99.8% good step by step video
This is sooo amazing! Thank you SO much. I wanna try this soon so I watched a lot of tutorials about this but your video is by far the best one on how to do it. You explain so incredibly well and show every step really clearly. I can't thank you enough :))
Will be doing this shortly before the next weekend and might update my comment on how it went as I return to this video quite often for learning purposes anyway.
Lots of love and stay safe everybody!
That switch lite skin looked very cool.I like seeing the insides in action.
You’re an excellent teacher. Thank you for the clear instructions.
Missed you, Erica!
Just did my switch lite. Excellent explanations, it really helped. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I just did the same shell replacement and it worked perfectly!
Thanks :)
This was such a detailed and careful instructional video! I can’t wait to get my own custom shell now!
I forgot to be careful with the LCD and now it broken
I would definitely do this, I have the atomic purple joycons. Maybe if I get another lite down the road for some reason. But frankly, I'm absolutely in love with the turquoise switch lite. It is by far the best and most attractive handheld system I've ever owned.
Thanks for the step by step direction. I just did mine in white. It looks, works and feels great so far. Game on!
This was very helpful! I actually felt like I knew what I was doing-thank you!
I love watching videos like this, even though I‘m way to scared to do stuff like this.
"You can also use P00"
My terrible sense of humor: *wheeze*
For the longest time, Post cereal had "Oreo-O's"... ...for YEARS, the UPC number had above it, "12oz POO".
I of course made sure to tell everyone in the world about it at every chance.
Long time no see ... I don't recall the last time TH-cam suggested me your videos but I'm glad it did.
Great video. I'm' so impressed with how reparable Nintendo made this console.
This was extremely helpful. You were extremely thorough and I appreciate that. Thanks for the video!!
