I finally got around to shell swapping my OLED switch, and it was certainly challenging! Thanks to the kit by extremerate, we go into how to shell swap the backplate for the switch, how to shell swap the kickstand, and the joy cons in this super cool retro blue joy cons.
This is one of my biggest projects so far, and I’m really happy with how this OLED switch housing swap came out out. We’ll walkthrough everything you need to mod your OLED switch properly.
    Extremerate Housing kit: amzn.to/3Qe9yFC

Cheaper toolkit that still works great: amzn.to/3bCs37L

    • @roastymarsh6284

@@BluJay722start with joycons. Having the basic tools (like the one on the kit. The 2 screwdrivers) also a small container or multiple containers to put the removed screws so you wont lose them. If you're gonna start with joycons, start with the left joycon since the right is little harder than the left because the right has infrared sensors. Also if you're experiencing joycon drifts, it's advisable to also replace the analog sticks. I did it to mine, replacing both shells and analog sticks. When dealing with ribbon cables, dont yank it out, theres a mechanism to flip to unlock safely(if youre gonna replace the right joycon shell, youre gonna temporarily remove the analog ribbon cable to access the screw.
I cant give you any tips on the system itself since i havent done it.

I honestly dont see what how you could mess up if youre really careful, just have patience. Dont rush anything not even for the slightest. Take your time. Even just wanting to get it done can cause you to mess up. So just be patient. Lets be honest sometimes you dont touch your switch for a week. So whats the rush anyway.

After about 4 or 5 hours worth of work, and doing the parts in reverse of the video (i started with the left joycon cus that was the easiest of the 3 parts), my shell swap is now done, and everything is fully functional. Theres absolutely NO WAY i could have done it without this video. Thank you!

I did the joycons on my launch switch because i figured if I'm going into the joycons to replace the drifting sticks, I might as well give it a full referbish. I went with plain clear and I love the look so much I'm gonna take on swapping the back case of the switch to match, and getting a grip case that matches the clear, so you can see all the way from the case through into the internals. love it.

I bought the kit and shell swapped my switch OLED in transparent blue, it looks so so good!
I did keep the bottom bar black, it wasn't worth it for me. I also kept all the buttons and triggers stock black, I like the dual color scheme and how the buttons pop.
I also didn't have to unplug any ribbon cables on the 2nd joycon, I was able to keep it all connected and just unatttach it from the shell. I only disconnected the battery. It was quick and easy.

Everything in this video is very informative and very easy to understand.
The issue comes with your switch! Mine had screws that were super tight on the rails. I bought a nice screwdriver because all the reviews said to, and I still managed to strip them because they were in there TIGHT! I had to dremel them out and destroy the integrity of the rail. Now two screws are stuck but it let me get the rails down so I can pop the back plate off. I managed to get the silver part off but when it came to the screw with the sticker on it I STRIPPED IT!!! I was so angry and annoyed because it cannot be unscrewed and it prevented me from putting the plastic piece on the bottom. I did everything by the book and I still had issues. So if you’re thinking about it, just be careful with the screws if they’re hard to get off, they most likely will strip

This is definitely a tedious task but can feel rewarding imo. The one thing that stopped me at first was a stripped screw but I managed to get past that with left handed drill bits which worked like a charm and luckily the shell kit comes with replacement screws and were a lot better than the stock screws. I used ExtremeRate and their tutorial which is very thorough and it’s definitely worth appreciating. Now my oled has the clear teal blue shell and I love it and how different it feels. If anyone plans on doing this, all I can say is be careful with ribbons and the paste as well as pay attention to screw placement. I found one on my system where it wasn’t shown at on the tutorial. Those thin nosed tweezers work fine pulling ribbons safely but always be gentle first
