How to enable PS4 Pro 2160p RGB HDR support on Samsung UHD TVs

- How to get HDR picture on PS4, PS4 Slim or PS4 Pro on Samsung UHD and SUHD TVs, I explain in this tutorial. For this example I used PS4 Pro and Samsung 49KS7002, but this is also applicable to other Samsung's KU and KS UHD TVs.
Please note that on PS4 (original) and PS4 Slim you will get 1080p max output resolution and only on PS4 Pro UHD output resolutions.
Using this tutorial you will fix 2160p RGB unsupported resolution and enable HDR for 2K and 2K games and video apps.
Demostrated games played on PS4 Pro:
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim (running at 2160p60 SDR)
The Rise of Tomb Raider (up to 2160p30 SDR)
The Last of Us: Remastered (up to 2160p60 HDR) and
FIFA 2017 (up to 2160p60 SDR)
All hardware and software was running at latest version.

Hello darko love your work! I have a question The settings you are showing in this video on 49ks7002 were these after or before calibration for game mode? Actually lowest input lag is when you change the icon for the connection to PC. Pc mode has the lowest input lag while game mode is 2nd.
thank you @TV Calibration with Darko , i was starting God of War and the TV said no HDR. i followed your instructions (samsung tv as well but for some reason some functionalities arent the same, i couldnt see game mode n such and only HDMI 1 i was able to put ON) and now the game says HDR is enables so does my PS4.. magically haha.. thank you

Hi. I have a Samsung JU6700. When I turn UHD Color on at HDMI port 1, the TV doesn't recognize the PS4.
Sir, I have gone through the description you did in the video but one thing is missing. I have the same TV in the video but the HDMI Ports I have is Only 3 (2 HDMI + 1 HDMI/DVI), the Port which you must connect to activate the HDR+ on your PS Pro Console is (HDMI/DVI), I tried many other things but when i connect that port it worked perfectly, even the picture was better. and to know which port support the HDMI/DVI, you have to go through settings and check that port and make your trial and error to work it out, and it will work indeed.

I have Philips 49PUS6101/12 and I am getting crushed blacks and losing details in shadows. My tv doesnt have any HDMI black level settings and even if I put my PS4 to Limited or change back to full there is no difference at all. If I turn up the brightness either in game or TV the colors look washed and looks weird on light areas. I disabled all post processing effects like dynamic contrast and etc on my TV. How can I fix it? Thank you so much.

I have set all the settings for PS4 and for tv, how all they say, I've watched a lot of videos and read a lot of articles ... but everyone says put the Game Mode on tv ... but if I push it off, and keep the picture on Dinamic, everything else how is recommend, my picture is better, clearer, better, HDR works, 4K works, but the picture is better if Game Mode is off ... bought HDMI premium, etc ... went to Samsung's official site, they say: "Game mode removes picture processing from the TV. This may degrade the image quality slightly, but reduces input lag, which is great for you competitive gamers.With the game console connected and turned on, navigate to Settings> General> External Device Manager> Game Mode Settings> Turn Game Mode on> If you are more in story driven games or graphics are more important to you, you may want to stick with a preset picture mode such as "Standard" or "Movie". Hey Darko, with the UHD setting enabled are the calibration settings the same as the one you did in your “Settings for Gaming” video ?
Hi - for HDR settings will be somewhat different, especially for Backlight and Contrast (probably will be maxed out). The rest can be adjusted in a way I've shown.

Hey darko I have a 55js9000 but looking at possibly upgrading to 65 inch my options are ks8000 , ks9000 & ks9500 which would you say is worth upgrading over my js9000 also is the ks9500 really worth the extra money? Hi - going from 55" to 65" would definitely be a noticeable difference, especially for PS4 Pro / (UHD?) Blu-rays. I do not know if you are from US or EU, but in general KS8000 has fully comparable picture quality to KS9000 and KS9500. EU KS9500 has direct LED and local dimming so it will bring (depending on the scene) better contrast, but overall native contrast is pretty much the same on all 3 models. Same goes for depth of colors and even HDR should be similar.

Yes, I would say KS8000 is better since it is UHD Premium certified and has proven HDR and wide color gamut performance. I would rather spend £800 on audio system for example than on KS9500.
I would not bother at all, I had a js8500 SUHD Samsung set, tried the ks8000 and it's the same damn picture, if anything the 1000nits was distracting when gaming the js9000 HDR is perect in my opinion.
When I turn on UHD Color on my Samsung KS7000 my screen goes black. With UHD Color turned off I have 4K, but no HDR support and YUV420 instead of RBG..tried different slots, cables and solutions..nothing helps..
I have the same issue with my Samsung 55JU6500D. Only HDMI 1 has the ability to turn on UDH Color, fine. I turn it on and plug the ps4 pro into the HDMI 1. My tv does not just blink as indicated above, it says it must restart to apply those settings, fine. When it reboots it is black. The ps4 is on, and when i change the setting back to non UHD Color the display returns. Grrrrr. Please Darko, you are my only hope.
Wait, it was simple. Darko, your video was perfect, Thank you! Rasta, I changed my HDMI to the one that came with the PS4 Pro. Then it worked. I guess the HDMI cables that were in my system where very old and also ordered discount from India.
HDMI 4 port on my samsung UE65HU8500 is greyed out and I cant enable 'uhd color' =( My PS4 pro runs hdcp 2.2 only on port 4. Even though, I tried to connect it via hdmi ports 1-3 where UHD colors were enabled but still HDR is not available (in ps4 graphic settings). =(

Hi Darko, I have the 78inch UN78HU9000 model- only port 4 supports HDCP 2.2 and also I cannot get the HDR to work on Ps4PRO, It says “your tv does not support HDR”? I’ve tried everything, any suggestions? And also when I try Turing “Game Mode” On, it’s won’t let me on TV, it says “this function not available”. Thank you 🙏🏽
My samsung TV doesn't even have all that stuff in this video, it's all completely different even though it says 4K and HDR enabled on the box

When I turn the HDMI UHD on, the screen goes black forever, it only goes back if I turn it off and then replug the hdmi cable.
Samsung 40ku6000 drivers up to date, hdmi premium 2.0 cables pluged into hdmi 1, gtx 1080 drivers up to date. I dont't know what to do.
Also in nvidia panel, at 4k 60fps, it only shows yCbCr420 with Limited Range, it does not even show rbg.
It only shows RBG Full at 4k 30fps.

Yes. The problem was that my cable was too long (10m). I Changed for a 1.5 meter premium (Vention Monster) cable and now it worked.
But, event with UHD on, the games does not recognizes the hdr function, and I don't know why.

On ps4 pro with my Samsung UE49KU6470 the red is really red especially with fire and sand effects in bf and skyrim it would look good if i could calibrate the colour space correctly. Can you put up a list for this tv please with ps4 pro in mind as i feel im not getting the best colour available.

It should - I haven't seen any change that would influence that on NU7100.

Hi, Javier. I think it is not worth the upgrade since you will get somewhat bigger screen size but overall same picture quality.

Hi - I recommend Resolution - Automatic. Once you enabled HDMI UHD Color, what does it say on Video Output information?
TV Calibration with Darko Resolution 3840 x 2160 - 60hz, color format RGB, HDR not supported, HDCP 2.2. But if I change HDMI port HDR becomes available but HDCP drops to 1.4.

Hi Jesse - that sounds like connection problem. Try reversing HDMI cable - what was going to the TV to go to PS4.
Here's my problem. I have an XBOX One S plugged into HDMI1 on HDMI UHD screen. It gives me the option to turn it on and off. I bought a PS4 Pro today and plugged it into HDMI2, enabled Game Mode, but HDMI UHD option says "This function isn't available" when I try to turn on HDMI UHD Color for HDMI2 and HDMI3. HDMI2 and HDMI3 are both grayed out. My TV's model number is "UN50KU6300FXZA". I don't know if that has to do with anything. But option 2 and 3 don't have a HDMI UHD option. Is there a fix to this so that I can get HDR on my XBOX and my PS4 both?

HDR is only available on the 1st HDMI input. Most 4k tv's are this way

Hello - let me see if I got this right. PS4 Pro is turned off, your TV is turned on and in Game mode for the selected input. Next, you turn on PS4 Pro and check again TV's menus and Game mode switches automatically to "Off"?

Have you tried settings PS4 Pro output to Automatic? Perhaps also try with different HDMI cable?
No I haven't changed to automatic and even used a brand new hdmi which whether is makes a different or not but a 2.0 versipn
If I enable the HDR option on my 49KS7002 for the set top box from my cable provider the image stays the same but the sound goes away. Strange.

TV Calibration with Darko I've fixed it now. HDMI 2 and HDMI 3 were greyed out when try ing to turn on UHD colour. And my ps4 pro was set to HDMI 2. But I set it to HDMI 1 and that works for me so I got it to work. I read somewhere that it only works on HDMI 1 so I just changed it and it worked!

Hi - seems to me you are having an HDMI-handshaking issue. Try switching the cable orientation - what is going in the TV should go in the console and vice-versa. Regarding shaky radar - which picture preset are you using?

Also i think i have a delay on it, when i play with friends, and we go to a mission, by the time my character is ready, they already running and far away from me...

No, TVs have very low delay until the picture is drawn on the screen, but not 2 or 3 seconds. That depends on your internet connection/lag and on how powerful your computer/game console is. Even if you and your friends have the same console like PS4 Pro, maybe some of them have an SSD drive instead of typical mechanical one and the games will load faster and they can start playing sooner than you.
Is it normal that i can only use yuv420 for 4k hdr games and only for 4k non hdr games rgb ?
Yes. When you turn HDR on, the resolution is set to YUV 2160p. That's what it should be. Also set the color space to auto on HDR content, and native on SDR content. :)

Hi - PS4 Pro makes sense on TVs with 55" or bigger screen size. For smaller ones it is not worth the upgrade.

No, not true. 2160p RGB will give you also give you HDR. If you see issues with it choose Automatic.

When I enable it, there is no signal. Help please mines a MU7000 7 series.
Try different HDMI input or try to exchange cable direction (side that curently goes to TV should go to the device and vice versa).
TV Calibration with Darko so far it's working now. Its flickering once in a while. What I did was I change cable directions, disabled the HDCP settings, put in safe mode, changed resolution to 2160 RGB, and now it works a bit better. Hopefully maybe there will be an update or gonna have to get a new tv.

SDR-to-HDR conversion in real time. Not like true HDR, but you can try it out and see how you like it.

Well, not sure that your model has HDMI 2.0 outputs so you that is probably why it is not working...

How do I check that? It just says Automatic when i turn the resolution. The problem is that I can't use the UHD/ or RGB as it says on the playstation. I can only use YUV420.

Have you tried to enable the TV HDR settings while you are in the relevant hdmi source used for the Playstation? I had the same issue, couldn't activate them unless the tv source was switched on HDMI 1 (the one I'm using for playstation). My TV is a Samsung 40MU6470. I hope this helps :)
erlen I think you need to enable also in you ps. go to settings/sound and screen/video output settings/hdr and choose automatic.

4k HDR in rgb 2160p is for 8 bit panel. But if yr tv support 10 bit panel then yuv format is best as rgb is limited....
