How to enable PS4 Pro 2160p RGB HDR support on Sony UHD TVs?

- How to get 4K UHD HDR picture on PS4 Pro on Sony's UHD TVs, I explain in this tutorial. For this example, I used PS4 Pro and Sony KD-55XD9305 UHD HDR TV, but this is also applicable to other Sony UHD TVs as well.
Please note that on PS4 (original) and PS4 Slim you will get 1080p max output resolution and only on PS4 Pro UHD output resolutions.
Using this tutorial you will fix 2160p RGB unsupported resolution and enable HDR for 2K and 2K games and video apps.
All hardware and software was running at latest version.

Oh man,thank you for this walkthrough. Just got the ps4 pro and kept getting the message that my TV settings needed to be changed for 4k.
For other people having this problem. Mine did not auto restart once turning on the hdmi signal format method. What I did to get rgb ending is. Go to picture display, picture adjustments, advanced settings, and video options, once there go to hdmi range and place it on full. Once that is done you should be able to move it from 2160p to 2160p RGB.
Dude you are a life saver! This method still applies to a 2021 model sony A80j.

Changed it to Enhanced on my 65" X850e and it didn't power off...still stayed Enhanced so I guess the newer models don't require a Automatic Turn Off and On....

This is still happening in 2019 in top-of-the-line Sony TV's like 85XG9505. It is crazy why this option is not on by default.

If I select RGB On my PS4 pro, at the PS4 home screen it is RGB... but as soon as I load god of war 4 or far cry 5, (HDR games), the ps4 pro changes resolution to YUV422. I just installed an 18gbps HDMI cable. Shouldn’t it stay at RGB with a faster HDMI cable? Also, I have a buddy who also owns an x900e TV, with the same hdmi cables, and his stays RGB even after the application / game has loaded... Thank you for the help!

My playstation pro kept telling me that when I played a game, the game support 4k but my tv settings wasn't set and for the longest I didn't know what I did wrong. With your video I realized I had to go to the main TV settings not the action menu settings to set the 4k. Thanks again!
Thaaaaaanks! This worked on my new XF90. I didn't get the option to choose in which HDMI input I wanted to enable the enhanced format, instead I had to put my HDMI cable in slot 2 or 3, but it finally worked. Thanks again.
if anyone has the same problem i did, after you change the hdmi to enhanced, when you turn the pro on there will be no signal... This will require a factory reset on the television. But afterward it will work.

I believe HDMI2.0 does not support 2160p 10bit RGB (Chroma 4:4:4) on hardware level. So, eventhough it says HDR is enabled, it still 8bit SDR. Its better to keep resolution setting on automatic.

I'm constantly having to manually reset the formatting on the HDMI port... if I start the PS4 on Enhanced there is no signal to the TV. Standard it works fine

If your are using the TV with Android OS, you may try these steps; just go to home screen and select setting icon on right up. And select “watching tv” and go to external inputs menu. So then you can go to “hdmi signal format” and just change standard format to enhanced format with your hdmi port that links to your PS4.

Sony TV users don't user HDMI 1
The other inputs work.
Most Sony TVs that support HDR , often can NOT use HDMI1 even though the External Inputs indicated it may except those 4:4:4 signals after you change it.
What you didnt explain is those who have a sony bravia 4khdr tv have hdr already if you play a game with the hdr settings turn on your ps4 pro some hdr on different games cancels out and look like its not on with my hdr10 on my tv turned on i get a better picture but i turn it off and turn on hdr settings on the pro the hdr looks darker than my hdr10 so i leave the pro hdr settings off and running my tv settings i can still change picture settings in certain games like monster hunter and see the difference
For those of you who has changed hdmi input to enhanced already and still has a problem - check if it says which hdmi input channel the enhancement works. For mine it says hdmi 2 & 3. Change accordingly.

ArcadeDude44 Try switching to gaming mode and/or different hdmi input. Also you don’t have to manually turn on the HDR feature, just leave it at automatic.

Omg thank u! Last of Us part II kept playing on 1080p. No idea why you can't adjust that from the menu button on the controller that let's you adjust the picture. I would've never found it without this video. Pain in the ass how they hid that option. Why does it need to be off anyways by default?

2016 Sony Bravia x7500 menu let me enhance on external input! Battlefield 1 is now 4k and not 1080p. Looks better, frame rate a huge plus!!!!

This worked for me originally on my 900F but I just got the 9000F sound bar and it's not working again. I have the sound bar connected from it's ARC port to the TV ARC port and the PS4P in the other sound bar port. Any ideas?

My TV Sony bravia X7000E does not have this external input-HDMI signal Format-enhanced format option blah blah blah
What happen is when i play the game in HDR mode activated the resolution goes to 1080P as soon as the game launches and when i turn off HDR mode the game continues running in 4k display. (game uncharted 4).
i am looking for its solution from a person who has fixed this issue or know how to deal with this. HELP!

You need to go to set up then Av set up then scroll down hdmi signal format and enhanced on either hdmi 2 or 3 doesn't work hdmi 1.

Hi I have XBR-49X800C - playstation support told me to 'get an HDR compatible tv' even though this one supposedly is. TV support gave up after 2 1/2 hours of telling me to do factory resets. I followed the steps and turned on enhanced on all hdmi ports, tried plugging ps4pro into every single port, but still nothing. the video output says something about what Hz are ok and to try changing tv settings - so I feel like I"m supposed to do something very specific with the picture settings on the tv but can't figure out what. Please help :(

Thank you .. please I need your advice .. i'm trying to decide on which of these TV's to get X93D, LG OLED55C6P, or the Samsung KS9500 .. all 55" .. the only thing I fear is OLED having that blue-ish color. Plus I hoped Sony made a TV same as the X93D but curved. Please I need your help!
Hi - you do not have to worry about LG having bluish color - that is simply not true and this you can see in my calibration videos. Between the 3 I would definitely buy 55C6P.

HDMI cable is in the right slot as per manual and I am using the supplied cable with pspro to acesses.

Samsung Bravia - are you sure you have this TV? Bravia is Sony's name for TVs.

I get a total different screen when i go to video output settings. It says available frequencies for 4k out bla bla on the Bottom. It does not look like your screen at all..
Yes, Sony updated the screen to be more user-friendly. However, same tips still apply.

Try switching HDMI cable the other way around and try again. So what was going in the TV should go to the device.
I have a SONY BRAVIA KD49XE8077 and the 4K and hdr work although when I have HDR activated within a game, the colours look worse and faded. How can I use HDR properly?
check that your tv is actually in HDR picture mode. I just found out tonight that for whatever reason the picture mode doesn't automatically switch to HDR mode when receiving an HDR signal. It could be because I have a 4K HDR receiver in between or something but in any event, the tv's picture mode wasn't automatically changing. Just tonight I realized that while playing Elder Scrolls Online and when I made the switch my colors went from just OK to absolutely STUNNING.
Derrick Ray mine has HDR Vivid and HDR Video... which do i choose? HDR Vivid looks better to me but in the picture options next to "Mastered in 4k" while using this options it says "off" while it says "on" when using HDR Video as the picture setting.

I have set an AV-Receiver (Onkyo RZ 810, which Supports 4K HDR) between the console and the TV.
Can someone help me with that? Xbox One S works fine.
If anyone is interested in this...I fixed my Problem. I just used the original HDMI cable, that came with the console, to connect the console to my Receiver. I still used my own HDMI to connect the Onkyo to my TV and it works with 2160p RGB...wth Sony?This makes no sense at all.
I have an sony kd 49x8307c from 01/2016 4k and hdr was on the box. My ps4 pro settings are upgraded and Sony TV on enhanced output for hdr. Still my ps4 pro tells me hdr not supported. I tried everything, new cables, safe mode, updates,... Still the same outcome, hdr not supported. But beneath it says, your TV has higher settings, please check them. But I can't change anything. What can I do?

I have a Sony 900E tv with a Onkyo TX-SR373 receiver that's supposed to be 4K pass-through and I still can't get it to work. My HDMI is plugged into one of my 2 HDR inputs on my tv so I have no idea why it's not working. I would really appreciate anyone's help, please. Thanks.
Hi - is the Onkyo adjusted correctly to pass-through 4K? Maybe there is an option that toggles this support.

It shows 2160 - RGB and not 2160p - YUV420? The difference is in color resolution - RGB for each pixel has color information, while YUV420 has reduced resolution of colors. It depends what type of content you watch/play games, but in general Auto mode is the best not to worry about it.

Ive got the 900E and when I follow your steps my screen goes black, ps4 pro only works in standard. I cannot enable the 4k enhanced nor do the setting ever show on the ps4 for the 2160p rgb. I get the message (your tv may support higher quality color format and 4k hdr if you chance its settings)

ViciousDave4Life Same for me, I got a 900e today, but both the PS4 as well as my XBox 1s both show that HDR is not supported!? I know this tv supports, among other formats, HDR10. I did the exact steps that are shown in this video (except on HDMI3, because I want the ARC for the stereo), and the tv didn't restart? I restarted my systems, and there were no changes!?
I had a similar issue. Where it would say only 2k HDR was supported. It could be one of two things, or combo of them. A Sony CSR said I needed to have "high speed" HDMI cables. The one's I got from Amazon does have "high speed" printed on the cable. When I plug my PS4 Pro directly in to my Sony TV XBR65x850c the info screen does say I have 4k HDR. But, when I have things connected through my Yamaha receiver - PS4 Pro connected to Yamaha to TV it would only say 2k HDR. I had to go into my Yamaha's advanced settings and switch it from 4k MODE 1, to MODE 2, and now it works! To do that;
Instructions:
1. Turn the Unit Off
2. Hold Down the Straight button and Power Button
3. Release
4. Use the left program button on the receiver (not the remote)
5. Select 4K (Mode is probably 2)
6. Press Straight button to change to Mode 1
7. Press Power (unit will power off)
8. Power Back on and Enjoy

Pozz, imam problem sa sony bravia 4k hdr tv, 55xf8096, spojen je sa ps4 pro, sve sam napravi sto se tice enchanced modova ua hdmi itd, kad upalim ps4 slika je odlicna, kontrast, hdr sve super sve dok ne upalim neku igru, onda mi se kod loadanja igre kao iskljuci hdr i boje izgledaju uzas, cim odem i ugasim igru opet sve izgleda super, ne desava se kod svih igara nego kod njih par, takav problem nemam na samsung uhd hdr tv-u, sta to moze biti? Pozz - događa li se to na svim HDMI ulazima? Probajte okrenuti kabel - konektor koji je išao u TV neka ide u PS4, možda pomogne.

That is true if you have first generation of VR. Then new one supports HDR pass-through.
