  • Explaining how to properly set "RGB Range" on Playstation (PS4)
    A lot of PS4 and Playstation users are doing this WRONG! Should you use "Limited" or "Full" RGB Range on your PS4 or Playstation? Here's the answer...
    Generally, most TVs default to "Limited" RGB, were many gaming monitors like BenQ let you manually select the RGB range. For best color accuracy, you want the monitor and Playstation RGB range to match. Note it is worth mentioning that some PC monitors like select ASUS models only support "FULL" RGB range. It's important that you research your monitor so that way you know what the proper setting is to use. Thanks for watching!

    *NOTE* - it is worth mentioning that *SOME* PC monitors only support a "Full" RGB range. If you're playing with a PC monitor and there is no option to change RGB in the settings, refer to your user manual or google to see what the default setting is. If colors look extremely washed out and white on Auto, set to full because your monitor most likely defaults to RGB full

    Some games are actually designed to use a certain colour space as well, so setting it to a colour space not expected by the game can cause issues with the picture quality as well. I've learned this from experience, having set both my TV and PS4 to full, then still finding some games to have excessively darker images than others, or contrast levels that were vastly different. I thought I needed glasses/new TV the way some games looked compared to others with the forced setting. Setting it back to auto on both the TV and PS4 alleviated this. If anything, most games seem to use the Limited colour space.

    Pretty much all modern monitors support full RGB range. This is mostly a setting to be concerned with in regards to TV's. If your TV or monitor doesn't have RGB full or limited settings, test setting the PS4 RGB range to limited and then to full. The setting that has the better contrast and doesn't look washed out is the correct one.

    If you’re using HDMI then the PS4 and monitor/TV will negotiate the correct setting in automatic. The manual options are only there for either the small percentage of TVs/monitors that do not negotiate, you’re using an intermediary device like an amp and the signal to negotiate is not passed through correctly, or you are converting to a different input connector for the monitor. In 99.9% of cases automatic will automatically negotiate the correct setting via the HDMI protocols and this setting does not need to be changed.

    • @TheEgyptianOne
      @TheEgyptianOne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@madamevoodoo8217 They are not doing it wrong noob lol. For most modern 1080p monitors or 1080p TVs, you should have the ps4 rgb set to full or else the image will indeed look washed out if it's set to limited or automatic....Why? Because dummy, most 1080p TVs and monitors use a 1.4 hdmi port, which is a low speed signal. This means you don't get all the image and color information sent to your screen, therefore you need to manually turn on the Full rgb colors in order to make up for the lack of colors you get from a low speed HDMI signal. Unlike 4k TVs or 4k/1440p monitors that send a complete and accurate image to your screen from your PS4 via a High speed 18 gbs HDMI cable, hence why it is recommended for this option to be kept at "Automatic" in this particular case because it would be an overkill if you have a monitor that gets all the colors from its hdmi signal while having RGB set to full on your PlayStation settings. The problem lies here and this is why people report crushed blacks and a saturated image overall. This option should only be left alone if your TV or monitor are capable of outputting a highspeed image signal using an hdmi 2.0 port and a high speed HDMI cable. Think of it as being similar to supersampling being turned on for 1080p screens. It would not make any sense if you were to manually turn on supersampling on a 4k screen because the image signal is already capable for outputting 4k and doesn't need for you to downscale a 4k image like it would for a 1080p screen.

In games with HDR it looks great tho and details aren't lost in the shadows. Does anyone know why this is a thing? The truth is
    In PS4 must set to Limited
    In Xbox one must set to TV= limited
    All TVs support Limited but in budget TVs they have full which work very poorly
    So all game console are designed to work 100% when both TV and console set to limited
    In fact all LG TVs by default game mode black level set to low which = limited
    In console if you set Full to Full you will not get the maximum colors depth and contrast, because you will slightly you need to change brightness inside the game!

      I have the same issue with my Benq EL2870U 4k i have configured my ps4 pro and the monitor at Full Range and looks well, but with i activate HDR on the ps4 and i play some HDR video, or game this looks washsed and the white look yellowish. I prefer to have disable the HDR, i think this technology doesn't work properly on LCD panels.

      SAKEWCW did that happen out of the box or did it occur later? It took like a year for me to be like that. I was watching Netflix and stuff fine in 4k hdr at first. I used 3 different ps pro’s on this monitor. All of them show the same washed out colors.
