    Tried playing a speed run 10 times in regular settings, switched to this and did it on the first try. It's so much easier when you look around in first person with no blur

    Why does everyone recommend putting the Warm2 as color tone? I just got the MU6175 (MU6300 for US) and I have to keep it on Standard if I want normal looking whites. Warm2 looks like it throws a yellow-y blanket on my screen and everything looks kinda off with it.

      It's closer to the actual color accuracy of movies and why people say to go Movie 2.

    • @johnerocketz

      I agree. The warm2 after turning on HDR has a dull yellow overtone. Cool or Standard seems to look the best. (MU6290)

      DUBMO At first glance, Movie/Cinema mode will appear very red, but this is likely far more accurate. Your eye/brain gets used to the color temperature, so "cool" seems correct, "warm" seems too red. But after watching the more accurate "warm" mode, cool will seem blue.

      @Yummypikletits 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I fined warm2 is good for watching real life stuff and standard for video game videos i compaired it to the same video on my 4k phone and its looks more identical in standard mode HDR mode is stunning for nature videos like planet earth i have yet to see a movie with humans tho

    good tips but personally I won't recommend pc mode in Tvs if the input lag is your priority I would better use a gaming monitor , you have to put also the aspect ratio in fullsize not in 16:9 and for Tvs live hdmi to limited not auto

    Thank you Darko for this. This goes the same for the KS series and KU series from last year. I use my TVs as monitors and PC mode on Samsung TVs is hella killer on picture quality when in PC mode. I settled for the Vizio P50 and it works WONDERS as my PC display. Only drawbacks are I can't reduce judder when game latency is enabled. Which blows but it ain't a deal breaker since the input lag is greatly reduced. But man that smooth motion looks good, so I keep game latency off when media viewing

    Hi Darko Nice Video i got the Television couple of days ago ! There is nothing about most functions and setting in the manual !So i Got a couple of Questions about the Calibration,can you use PC mode in a Console ?
    Also Does the Calibration you show here apply to Normal HD picture only ? because when the Picture goes to 4K and HDR it changes completely,most times it goes to Dynamic and has lots of brightness and backlight to get the HDR effect to work,Are there any Other settings we can use to Watch 4K and HDR Content ? either movies or Games, Thanks !

    Super nice reviews! I was looking to get a Samsung 40MU6402 to replace my 30" monitor. What do you think about this as a PC monitor? Specially for Photoshop and DTP jobs? Does it have a good enough response time to not have a laggy mouse movement? Or maybe you would recommend a different 4K TV, that's much faster & better as a TV monitor (but only in 40-43" range, as bigger would be troublesome at only 50-70cm from screen). Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

    Great video , I think it'll be the same on 2016 models . My concern is using HDR , I noticed on the ks8000 it gets completely washed out on PC mode , is there any way to solve this ?

    • @totalprocall6894
      @totalprocall6894 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      On my KS7000(UK version of ks8000) every picture preset has agressive dimming even with smart LED switched off. It effects 5% and 10% gamma so that even while aiming for 2.2 gamma you get stuck with 2.4 at the low end which is very annoying. Every other brands black level dimming(where led's shut off when it displays pure black) disables completely as soon as any brightness is introduced, even a small pause icon on the calibration bluray. Not so with this set where a huge patch of brightness is required for it to increase its backlight to where you want it. Anyway in answer to your specific question, the only times dimming is COMPLETELY removed on the ks8000 is when an input has the label set to PC. This means that you can only choose from standard(forced native/expanded colour space for some weird reason) or natural picture modes within the PC input label. The reason it looks washed out is because all the dimming is removed, even the micro dimming that i mentioned above which is built into the firmware of the set.
      PC mode in short...is utterly useless to be honest. If you could set the colour space to rec709 in PC mode/standard preset, instead of it being forced into native and greyed out, i would use it for everything to avoid the gamma crushing that the micro dimming, inherent to all other picture presets, seems to cause.
      For HDR though pc mode should not be used. Especially as HDR sources are 4:2:0 due to bandwidth limitations, this alone makes using PC mode pointless as you will not benefit from 4:4:4.

    • @javiermd5835
      @javiermd5835 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Total Procall so understand . It's kinda weird , since PC mode provides you full chroma , that's why I use it for SDR . For HDR I set Game Mode and adjust gamma to -1 , is it right ? Or should be set to 0 or even higher ?

    • @totalprocall6894
      @totalprocall6894 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      With PC mode you get full chroma but drastically inaccurate color accuracy, due to be forced into an expanded color space with no way of changing it. If i was gaming or watching movies using my PC i would simply enable MOVIE or GAME mode(by switching the input label to HDMI or anything apart from PC) and calibrate the 2p white balance and use -1 gamma which is closest to 2.2 actual gamma.
      You are trading off full chroma(which only pc can provide really) for decent color accuracy and the slight dimming. The color is so overblown in native though i cannot recommend PC mode for anything at all. Not if you value an accurate picture...Full chroma is really not important when it comes to real world usage.
      Like i say if only samsung had enabled you to toggle from native to custom or auto for color in PC mode...then you'd be able to fully circumvent dimming. Its only a minor bugbear mind for the vast majority of users, color accuracy is much more important.
      You are correct though in assuming game mode and -1 gamma for HDR. Smart LED low or high(i find low looks the best) is also essential for HDR. You will still get odd moments where scenes have mixtures of bright and dark where the dimming cant quite get it right, but for the most part HDR on this set is superb with Smart LED active.

    • @javiermd5835
      @javiermd5835 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Total Procall thanks , I'll take in mind . So smart LED is best set to low rather than high ? everything I've gathered claims that must be set to High

    • @totalprocall6894
      @totalprocall6894 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They both work but obviously low setting isn't as aggressive and you don't get as many odd looking moments with the dimming. Which you go with is down to you in terms of your taste...so long as one is chosen your HDR should look great.

    I bought the same model today. These tips are great, and I plan on implementing them all. However, I have a PS4 Pro and plugged it straight up to HDMI 1 with the HDMI packaged with the PS4. I can not get HDR to work on the PS4. I found the HDR+ mode in Expert Settings and turned it on. Whenever I try to switch the setting in the PS4 Pro Video Output from Off to Automatic, it tells me HDR is not supported on the TV. Is there a setting in the Samsung I am missing? Thanks.

      @coreymoran2363 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      BobaRhett13 yes, go to settings>external device manager> HDMI uhd color> and select what input you want or all of them. (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc..)

    Great video thank you. I was having problems not being able to put my PS4 pro into game mode. Just bought Samsung MU8000 65" on sale for $1099 at Best Buy. I will try PC mode like you recommended since I am having trouble hitting the ball in MLB the show 2018 on line because of the lag

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It can happen that TV reads HDMI EDID in a different way and think PS4 Pro is an actual PC. In both cases you should get lower input lag so no worries if instead of actual Game mode you have it in "PC mode".

    Hi Darko
    Thank you very much for this video.
    I just bought a 40MU6400 (the western european model of the TV you shown)
    I have a couple of questions:
    Should I use PC Mode for my PS4Pro HDR games or for SDR games?
    Now I'm on PC Mode with your calibration settings for both contents but some games look decent (Injustice 2 for example, wich looks very natural in colors or Deus Ex Human Mankind Divided) while others look "greyish" and very dark (like Fifa18)... is it normal?
    While HDR Games are playing, the Gamma is automatically set to ST.2084 instead of the BT.1886 you show... is it correct?
    For anyone wondering how to fix the black screen on PS4Pro with HDR contents I found 2 methods (just tested my luck... I'm not an expert 😅)
    Method 1: HDR ON and GAME Mode ON on TV (PC Mode not active).
    On PS4Pro choose 2160p YUV420 as resolution INSTEAD of AUTOMATIC
    Method 2: HDR ON ; GAME MODE ON ; PC MODE active (in TV)
    PS4Pro resolution set to AUTOMATIC
    It seems the "simple" GAME MODE can't stand the automatic resolution on PS4Pro, making the TV screen flickering and going black for a while...
    But... which one of theese two settings is the best...?
    Thank you in advance and please forgive my poor English 😅

    @Mr Darko... Does Contrast Enhancer have anything to do with the HDR in 2018 Samsungs NU7100's like it does in the LG.?? I understand that LG you set the contrast enhancer the low. "from LG: Calibration Notes for 2017 LG OLED TVs.pdf
    "During HDR calibration, disable ‘Active HDR*’ (self generated dynamic
    tone mapping) by setting the ‘Dynamic Contrast’ setting in the Expert
    Picture Mode Settings to ‘Off’.
    After calibration, for best results, re-enable ‘Active HDR*’ by setting the
    ‘Dynamic Contrast’ setting in the Expert Picture Mode Settings to ‘Low’." LG’s ‘Active HDR’ function analyses content on a frame by frame basis in real time, to determine metadata for the scene. This information is then used to adjust the HDR tone-curve to match the content, on a frame by frame basis.
    Control of the ‘Active HDR’ feature is found in the ‘Dynamic Contrast’ setting in the Expert Picture Settings menu. In HDR mode, the Dynamic Contrast settings are defined as follows:
    • Off - Active HDR Disabled / Contrast Enhancement Disabled
    • Low - Active HDR Enabled / Contrast Enhancement Disabled
    • Medium - Active HDR Enabled / Contrast Enhancement Low
    • High - Active HDR Enabled / Contrast Enhancement High. My 2018 Samsung nu7100 defaults contrast enhancement too low when I put it in game mode. Sorry so long. I thought someone with your knowledge might know the answer. if this applies to 2018 Samsungs ?

    Hi Darko. Thanks for this, very helpful. I got my MU6400 back in June I think and, when setting it up, I'm fairly sure that Game Mode was source reliant - I had Game Mode on for the HDMI source but then Game Mode automatically switched off when I wanted to use the built-in apps like Netflix etc. Now though, and a couple of software updates later, Game Mode seems to be a global setting that I have to switch off when moving from HDMI source to the built-in apps. Is this correct? Is there any way to keep Game Mode on for the HDMI source and then have it turn off when used with other sources?Thanks a lot.

      use -1 gamma, contrast from 85-93(what looks best to your own taste), smart led low(helps to get 2.2 gamma from 10% and lower, otherwise low end is way too dark), and backlight 5 seems the correct setting giving anywhere from 120-150cdm2 based on all reviews i've seen(my own reading prior to any greyscale calibration is 140cdm2 at backlight 5). Game mode should automatically remove or grey out any unwanted processing options. Hope that helps.

    Why contrast enhancer should be turned off? I can't use this on low?

  • @totalprocall6894
    @totalprocall6894 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    On my KS7000(UK version of ks8000) every picture preset has agressive
    dimming even with smart LED switched off. It effects 5% and 10% gamma so
    that even while aiming for 2.2 gamma you get stuck with 2.4 at the low
    end which is very annoying. Every other brands black level dimming(where
    led's shut off when it displays pure black) disables completely as soon
    as any brightness is introduced, even a small pause icon on the
    calibration bluray. Not so with this set where a huge patch of
    brightness is required for it to increase its backlight to where you
    want it.
    Its annoying, bad for SDR, while making calibration very difficult and protracted. Do the 2017 models do the same? I assume so as this has been a bugbear of samsungs for a fair few years now according to the various forum posts regarding this online.

    • @TVguyDarko
      @TVguyDarko  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi - this global dimming on low APL level is something I see on both Samsung and LG TVs but in mainstream and low-end series. An example is this year's 40MU6402 where this clearly happens except in PC mode. To avoid it during calibration I use full-screen patterns, even though I see this still could be an issue when calibrating 5% stimulus.

    • @totalprocall6894
      @totalprocall6894 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah it affects both 5%, and 10% on my ks7000.
      The only way i can bypass it is either calibrating with SMART LED enabled(but you see visual fluctuation in the greyscale so i don't like this), or Simply use 10% APL windows on the 0% 5% and 10% readings, and then full screen for 20% onwards. Its pretty frustrating, as essentially anything calibrated at 2.2 is effectively 2.4 in the dark area's, and if like me you like to aim for 2.4 gamma, then it crushes the blacks so much as to make it an unviable target. I'm actually very surprised all the glowing reviews fail to ention this inherent "feature" across the web. Kind of makes me dispair as this is absolutely a hindrance for calibrators/perfectionists.
      A question darko, is there any way to target rec709 during PC mode on the samsung TV's? This is another strange design choice, as if the colour options for native/auto/custom were not forced into native and then greyed out, i'd use the standard/pc preset for everything SDR to avoid the global dimming. Its like someone at samsung is teasing us with the standard/pc mode.
      Thanks dude.

For example, if custom is set to DCI-P3 (as it is by default) then "Auto" will be DCI-P3 color space. If you change Custom to Rec2020, then "Auto" will mimic that as well. Give it a try. This leaves me scratching my head with video games. Should I set Custom to Rec2020 and just leave it on that with its default values?

      After you activated the HDR from your TV to te correct HDMI port (e.g. HDMI 1) you can

      2) Activate only Game Mode on TV - PS4Pro resolution manually to YUV420
